When are true journalists going to investigate the truth about Obama's ties to Arabs; has anyone looked into where the huge amounts of donations are coming from? What about Dr Surhan the Islamic radical who used influence to get him admitted to Harvard. How about the huge interest in Obama from Europe and the British college students who came to Ohio to fraudulently register young voters?? Why is England, which now is 33% Islamic so interested in the US elections?? Just follow the money trail. Think about it.

This is the scariest information I have heard of Palin so far. Does she really believe that the earth was created 6 thousand years ago? Does she believe in dinosaurs? I surely hope she does. Is she going to become the modern American Inquisition (Opposed to the Spanish Inquisition) on earth to destroy and torture loving spiritual movements such as Paganism, which by the way predates all monotheistic religions on earth. Does she honestly believe in the fairy tale witches such as the one that gave the apple to sleeping beauty so that she sleep until her true love gave her a kiss. Would she kill and torture innocents such as the poor individuals in Salem, MA. due to heresy and Witchcraft. Which in this modern age the truth of this hysteria has been uncovered? Is she living in a world full of fantasy and horrific dreams made up by religious zealots? It makes me wonder if in the 21 century in this wonderful World that we all share, the powers that may become a reality revert America the Great to the Dark Age due to a lack of historical knowledge and the lies for power founded by past conquistadors based on deception and bigotry that this poor woman has been exposed to herself will dominate American minds. Is that what you really want as an American? Really ask yourself this question over and over again. Is that who you want in power?

We in Malta may be Roman Catholics and our leaders are so but we are not this fanatical....

I admire your ethics and beliefs. I hope you can say the same for me. My Great Grandfather migrated from Spain to the Island of Puerto Rico, before the Spanish-American War. and I respect and honour all beliefs and religions. But very few lack the respect and positive view of my Sprituality and Religion. I practice Paganism (The Old Religion), as old as mankind itself. We believe in prayer and energy, in all Sacredness. All energy is positive or negative, it is what we make of it. So be it I am a Pagan, I study Enochian Magic, and my religion is Wicca which in the old Anglo-Saxon language means Wise. My people do not recieve there Dogma from books or political influences. My people recive our spirituality from our heart, love and all that exist which is sacred, such as the earth, and the universe, all polarity for such is nature. I respect you and your people, and I pray that with an open mind you can respect mine. It was my pleasure and great honor to have written to you, no matter what judgement you may have upon me or my people. May the Supreme Bless you, and yours.

Of course I respect your beliefs for your source is nature itself, something substantial... The Christian God is blind, deaf and mute... It's a good thing you respect others... In Malta I have to put up with fanaticism instead of scientific rationality buy America it seems is far worse than my country when it comes to extremity in religion...

My girlfirend is Wiccan herself so you know, I am kinda acquainted with your ways ;-) The Old Ways respected Life, they did not make humans slaves , ass-licking slaves...

lol blossom, I dunno what you're responding to, but if everyone read the bible and did EVERYTHING that it instructs we'd be worse off than those who were under the taliban. It's ironic that you would call anyone a moron when you are displaying such ignorance about your own ideology. By the way, there is a hedonistic cultureout there, but many of those people still go to church on Sundays and get the same heady and arrogant feeling of righteousness that you're displaying right now. Religion doesn't make good people, it just happens that some good people buy into religion.

it scares the bejezez out of me to think this woman could become president, when she views herself as a servant of God and has end-of-days beliefs. What happens when she has her finger on the button and decides it's God's will? The only clear path is seperation of church and state, but how do you do that with all these religious freaks running for office?

the creator of what you stand on now with your own two feet is God, the person who has provided you with everything you needed is God, and the banking system and the government was based on corruption thats why the conomy is the way it is, we get what we deserve our God is a just God and no we don't just leave things up to God thats incorrect, we do what's in our human powers to do but when things get impossible, we turn to God and leave it in his hands b/c nothing is impossible with him. Have a little faith it will take you very far. I welcome you to step out of your shell and prideful way and enter a life fuyll of adventure and glory having God as your governer. and by the way the corruption in this nation happened over the years afetr prayer was taken out of school and legalization of abortion if you hadn't quite grasped that yet. God bless you

it's so sad that you still believe in the medieval ways. And you believe all this because... someone told you to? Do you have any idea how ancient you sound? Have you ever actually THOUGHT about what you are saying? Sure - believing in God gives you hope - good, if you need that. But stop with the whole "God created everything" talk and try to use some realism in your tales. I have no problem with the concept of a spirit within us or a spirit that watches out for us, but to fall for the ENTIRE fable is just ignorance. You do realize the bible was written by men, right? And when your preacher says he was visited by God, you believe him? come on - it's like dealing with a bunch of children on here....

If there's a God, why hasn't anyone ever seen him (or her)? You'd think he'd come down and check on his work occasionally. Although if everything you say is true, then he's probably visiting the other 10,000 planets that DIDN'T murder his son....

I have been reading the comments on this story. Some of you people really need to get a grip. Nowhere in this story does the name Barack Obama appear. NOWHERE!!! The only political statement at all mentions that one of the pastors told people they had a slim chance at salvationif they had voted for John Kerry. This is simply an article outlining the various factions of Evangelicals. They go from moderate to extreme. Sarah Palin is a national figure and an Evangelical Christian. Newsweek is doing is an article about Evangelical churches. The USA was founded on Freedom of religion. I am amazed to read the amount of hate generated by this article. Their is nothing negative or untrue about anyone in this article. A news magazine is not allowed to print a news story without arm chair analysts inserting invisible between the lines editorials???? Many of you must have read a very different article than I just read.

The only substance I see from the posts below are a bunch of conservatives, "neo-christians", and biggots shaking in their pants because they realize an intelligent black man is going to be our President. Did the liberals really scare O'reiley and his cronies that bad??? Quit overanalyzing, look past the differences and realize that if McCain wins, the U.S. will be more isolated than we ever have in our entire history.

    • Posted By: vbaker @ 10/29/2008 2:06:02 PM

that's what you think, he is an intelligent guy!!!!!! you are soooo wrong. His dictators with money are the intelligent ones. open your eyes. you are ignorant. do you know all the people behind Obama? Do you think Obama can afford to run for presidency without his wealthy backers? . The people behind all this expensive campaign will become Obama's boss when he wins. They will say to him, "it's pay back time, dude". That means Obama can not say no to them, he is going to pay them back, not big money, but power and position. Open your eyes, you are so ignorant in politics. That's the way they work.

      • Posted By: jasonmartin @ 10/29/2008 6:03:26 PM

Yes you are right and as one of those wealth backers $20 donation I will expect Obama to answer to me.

I do not think O'Reilley should be included here. Ithink he is much more capable than most to accept an Obama administration given his disappointments with the Bush administration. You would be surprised to know how many true conservatives feel this way.

    Freemason33,
Much of your information is entirely false. Most everyone knows that MOST of the mainstream media is LIBERAL. And had you been reading the responses on this matter, you would have faith in what was meant and not take it out of context!

Oh yea everybody knows most of mainstream media is liberal, of course, and you came to this conclusion because you looked at the groups of people that own and run these news outlets. You didn???t did you?, go look up who funds cbs and fox and get back to me, and also look at what other media outlets these companies own. Or better yet everybody goto youtube.com and watch a movie called ???wake up call??? it might wake some of you up.

as for taking what was said out of context, read the posts at the start of the blog, if I was muslium I???d be a little affended, wouldn???t you? Why can???t we all just beleave in people and good will toward all without the fear that god is watching, judging us, and ready to punish us. Because more then half the country is brain washed into some sort of religion.

  • Posted By: Superwolf @ 10/29/2008 5:33:55 PM

Why does the McCain campaign say that Palin's religious beliefs, which will most likely form the basis of her attitudes, if not her behavior, is a private matter for her? When by contrast, the deeds that someone committed when Obama was 8 years old, are fully relevant to the understanding of the democratic candidate because of the fleeting association that Obama had with that person some twenty year later. Am I missing something here???

  • Posted By: realitycheck60 @ 10/29/2008 4:25:05 PM

I'm still trying to figure out how religion has lasted as long as it has. I guess it has to do with hope. No one wants this life to be all that there is, including me. But deluding yourself to believe in some huge power that knows all, sees all, etc is just so medievel. I mean - yes - back in the days when people barely lived to 30, and they needed huge amounts of hope to get through the day, it was probably required. To solve the problem, some really smart people came up with the God idea, playing off the prior beliefs of the people. Other philosophers (including Jesus) used this belief to boost the morale of the people in trying times. And they wrote a book that was supposed to serve as a user guide (not an operators manual) to a better life. That would be the new testemant - which shouldn't have even been put into the bible - it should have been a whole new book, since the early testemant was written by fear-mongers to control the populace rather than benefit it.

And here we are, with supposedly intelligent people still believing that there is a being that controls all, knows all, and is all-powerful. And we supposedly murdered his son so he will wreak havoc on anyone that doesn't bow to his power... I feel like I'm in the land that time forgot. There should be dinosaurs running around, we're so far behind the times. (oh - wait - you don't believe in dinosaurs - my bad.)

by the way - the God you pray to - gave you a conscience so you would know right from wrong. You don't need to pray to him, nor worship him. Just follow that little voice in your head and you should be ok. (Unless it's telling you to push that A-bomb buttom because it's God's will - then you're simply hearing things and are crazy...)

and you do realize that if you think God insists on being worshipped (as most who believe in God do) then you are saying that God is vain. Do you really think an all-powerful being that could lay waste to the planet with a wink of the eye really cares whether you believe in him or not? And if he was going to lay waste to the planet, wouldn't he have done it when we murdered his son? And if he's waiting to come back, don't you think he'll visit the 10,000 other planets that didn't kill his son before he even thinks about coming back here?

I'd ask you to be realistic, but there's no such thing as a realistic organized religion....

    • Posted By: astrofan @ 10/29/2008 4:55:02 PM

Jesus gave Himself to die willingly so that YOU, should you choose(and you should), can go to Heaven when you die. You just have to accept Him.....

      • Posted By: realitycheck60 @ 10/29/2008 5:22:49 PM

to say that God insists we believe in Him implies huge amounts of vanity. The whole "sins forgiven through Christ" was so that all the bad people (and there were more bad than good) could have a chance to change and not be "damned". I can't believe you actually think someone as powerful as God would want to be believed in and worshipped. And you probably believe that no matter what bad you do, if you go to confession then it's all washed away!! I would much rather lead a kind life without worshipping anyone than to do bad things and worshiping some entity and hoping he'll not be p*ssed off at you in the end. You people have blown the entire God concept out of proportion - it doesn't even do for civilization what it was createrd for in the first place....

There is no "slippery slope" it is simple equal analysis of facts. Obama was roasted for weeks with the Rev Wright issue and successfully dealt with it head on. Palin has got to deal with this head on as well. If her believes are at the fringes of most peoples' faith then we need to get some setails. The woman wants to be running the show so we need to know if she believes in witchcraft or not....or are you just judging Obama by the color of skin?

  • Posted By: realitycheck60 @ 10/29/2008 4:53:18 PM

Common sense is worth repeating: Friends, who made their presidential choice based on their religious commitment, have recently made the McCain-Palin recommendation to me and I have real difficulty understanding that. First, I think that the strong memory of what has transpired over the last eight years makes anyone???s 2000/2004 decision to support Bush-Cheney, based on their appeal to conservative Christians, highly questionable. Next, talking about ???Christian values??? amounts to more than just ???pro-life???, marriage between a man and a woman and stem-cell research ethics, to really include honesty, integrity, equitable consideration of others and responsibility in government and also should be seen as appropriate ???human values???, not just Christian. Additionally, it has always been my understanding that all religions really teach that connecting with God/Allah/Yahweh/? is only achieved through humility, by getting out of one???s self rather than being egotistically ostentatious (which is then about one???s ego rather than God). Too many times it appears that many who are running around yelling ???alleluia, alleluia, praise be to thee??? are actually just saying ???look at me, look at me, aren???t I something to see???. I???ll match my faith with anyone without ever needing to flaunt it, personally feeling that the quiet connection has the real quality and sincerity. All of that said, I really question the forthrightness of those who solicit the benefit of the religious vote based on what they say and on how religiously demonstrative they are, yet who lack honesty, integrity, compassion and humility as clearly demonstrated in what has transpired over the last eight years, and in their supporting that and now in how they conduct themselves when campaigning. Once considering these things, I then have no hesitation in giving Obama and Bidden credit for their superior conduct and more convincing faith orientated consciences and feel that when I vote for them, I won???t be co-responsible for ???more of the same???.

I've been reading this article aloud to my husband. As an evangelical family, trying to view our faith and practice through the eyes of the authors who have no categories for any of this, I can't help but laugh at how alarming this stuff must seem. The authors did distort Palin's remarks about the Iraq war and God's will, in which Palin only said that she hoped that we were doing God's will over there. The article has a very "gorillas in the mist" quality about it. You probably won't believe me, but Christians are really no danger to anyone.

    • Posted By: AzraelDarkAngel540 @ 10/29/2008 4:42:32 PM

Maybe good honest Christians aren't a danger but bible-thumbing fanatical freaks waving their dog-eared copies of the Book are a danger...

    • Posted By: AskPlus @ 10/29/2008 4:42:14 PM

Tell that to the millions Christians have killed, maimed and persecuted. Religion is responsible for 83 percent of all war, and Christianity is responsible for over 60 percent of that.
