Obama is NOT necessarily a Christian, but rather a Black Liberationist. This was the theology his church teaches, which is not Christianity, but a very twisted ideology based on hatred. This doesn't take a lot of common sense, just more than the average jouranlist obviously.

The man praying for Palin was a visiting minister to her church, not a pastor.

The ainstream, liberal media can push their propoganda all they want. But Americans still stand and defend democracy. There is a well-known Communist who wrote this: "The one who controls the media, controls the people." This article should scare every American, just not in the intent of its biased author..

I look forward to your hard-hitting, comprehensive expose on what Obama "really" believes and on his racist pastor and mentor of 20 years . . . but I won't hold my breath.

Palin, without much help from the media or anyone else, has succeeded in making a mockery of her own faith!

My final comment is in regards to the ???crazy end-times scenarios??? comment. Whether people think are greatest issue in war is Oil or not- I can promise with all that I have observed, even after going through a strong time of questioning my faith that INEVITABLY, all wars are fought on matters of right/wrong -good vs. evil- and RELIGION. And our final wars WILL be about the latter, which of course is what the Bible tells us. PS. Maybe you should look into Revelations, last book of the Bible. It is, of course the only book that predicted the Jews reclaiming Israel, having taken place in 1950???s ???A key ingredient in the Biblical recipe for Christ???s return. If you had any idea about what is going on in Israel, you would see how Revelations consistently lines up. If you???d like any of your readers to consider your opinions on politics and religion again, I suggest you start writing more educated/informative based articles.

Alegria, don't forget that the Book of Revelations has been around for 2,000 years. During these 2000 years, the end of the world has been predicted based on Revelations at least 10,000 times. Every single believer who ever said that believed it to be true with all their heart. However, it never was true.

I read the Bible frequently, and I find Revelations fascinating. But the popular notion of it is no more than a mental technicolor video game that people play in their heads. Good exercise for the imagination, but not very pertinent to the meaning of the text.

Possibly (just possibly, because all interpretations of the Bible are just that, interpretations) Revelations is a metaphor for how each individual should "clean house" in their soul and purify themselves enough so that they can see God's presence here on earth. The "end of the world" might just be a metaphor for the end of the worldly ego.

Shame on you, Newsweek. This article only show you bias. Where is your investigation on Barack Obama???s religious background? A man who attended a controversial church for twenty years. Or your investigation of Joe Biden, John McCain? Sarah Pailn isn???t the only person running for office of vice president. You are supposed to be a news magazine. But reporting the news no longer fits your agenda. People need to realize that you want to elect the democratic ticket and articles like this just shows the slant of this magazine. Please just be honest with everyone. Just come out and state that this magazine no longer reports news, you want to comment on the news and your slant on the news is from a left wing point of view.

McCain may know that his ability is highly limited. He needs religious power to help him running the country, even from a witch.

It makes many Americans sick to death of your slander. If Obama can worship like he wants to and get your blessings THAN SO CAN SARAH!!!
THE MEDIA IS THE ONES THAT IS CRAZY AND THINK THAT THE AVERAGE AMERICAN WILL LISTEN TO YOU TRYING TO MAKE SURE OBAMA GETS IN OFFICE. IF YOU DO NOT BELIEVE IN GOD SO BE IT BUT REMEMBER ONE THING.....YOU DID NOT GET INTO THIS UNIVERSE BY YOURSELF AND HE CAN ALSO CHANGE THE COURSE OF THIS ELECTION ANYTHING HE CHOOSES.

Peopel who critisize Obama past association should look at Palins far more recent almost current ones. The Alaska Independence Party is a radical group registered as a political party in Alaska. It calls for Alaska to leave the United States (to enjoy its oil wealth, no doubt) and claims that the Alaskan statehood vote was illegal. But that doesn't begin to describe the AIP's extremism. Its founder Joe Volger said "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government. And I won't be buried under their damn flag." Volger is dead but still celebrated on the AIP website. He died in 1994 when a blackmarket deal to buy plastic explosives went bad. His body was found in a gravel pit east of Fairbanks, wrapped with a blue tarp and duct tape.

we do not worship ppl.. the bible declares we all fall short of his glory, we are all sinners, none of us are perfect, but we do not go to a church to see the people around us, we go to spend time with and praise our God, your God too who loves you no matter what you do. God Bless You

I don't care where she goes to church or what she believes or doesn't believe. I don't care if she hates witches or loves them. I don't care if she thinks abortion is morally wrong, I don't care if she thinks homosexuality is a sin, and I don't care if she thinks monkeys weren't our ancestors. I don't even care if she believes that the End is near.

What I care about is her assumption that the rest of us need to believe what she believes, and that those of who don't believe are not worthy of equal protection under the law, or have a right to privacy, and a right to our own beliefs.

What I care about is when her beliefs get in the way of my beliefs.

I care that she would appoint judges to the Supreme Court who would infringe on a woman's right to make choices about her own body, I care that she would even think about banning books, and I care that she thinks one religion - hers - is superior to anyone else's.

She can have her Jesus and witches, her bible prophesies, she can even have the Last Frontier.

I believe in fairness and separation of church and state.

So far, I haven't seen anything telling me that Sarah Palin shares my beliefs..

      And Satan is running rampant.......

    • Posted By: Jaydon @ 10/29/2008 10:35:27 AM

can you please reference one time when she asked anyone to believe what she believed or that she tried to impose her relegion on anyone. If we voted an atheist into office, a catholic, an epistical, a methodist, a mormon they would all have their own belief or unbelief.. it is character that counts and from your comments it looks like you have none..

      • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 10/29/2008 10:54:43 AM

Yes, her refusal to support a woman's right to make choices about her body is one example where she would impose her religious beliefs on others who don't believe as she does.

It is not up to her to decide.

As I said, I don't care about her religious beliefs, but I do care when her beliefs infringe on my rights. Christianity is not the issue.

What Sarah Palin might do as an elected official because she is believes an evangelical Christian philosoph, is. And frankly, Obama was subjected to the same scrutiny, and then some. People questioned his beliefs, his minister's beliefs, and made all kinds of statements about whether his religious beliefs were acceptable.

I don't care about his beliefs, or his crazy minister's beliefs.

What I care about is that nothing I have heard come out of Obama's mouth about his beliefs tells me he will use his beliefs to infringe on my rights.

I can't say the same for Sarah Palin.

        • Posted By: Jaydon @ 10/29/2008 11:10:49 AM

then your real issue is pro choice so you would rather have a person in office who cares nothing about human life... that makes this even better... I belive you are going to vote for the right person when you vote for Obama... no real beliefs, no regard for the life of an unborn child... you are right on target!

    • Posted By: Bren4America @ 10/29/2008 10:47:41 AM

You are a person of wisdom and intelligence. Your comment bares great truth and is the attitude we need to move America forward, not backward as McCain/Palin would do.

  • Posted By: bhaley @ 10/29/2008 6:15:05 AM

you either beleive the Bible or you don't. if you beleive the Bible that means that the Devil and sin are real things to deal with. most christians beleive that mainstream America is experiencng an explosion of the occult and that popular media is propogating this. Harry Potter, Charmed. LOTR, even starwars are sources of this kind of deception to get people to buy into satan and become unwilling participants in his attemp to trick people away from God. Christians are especially targeted because satan can see no greater victory thatn to get a Christian to stumble and fall and not get back up. in a spiritual sense. todays Christians are to be watchful for the tricks of the devil and his unwilling and willing participants(THE ESTABLISHED CHURCH OF SATAN). Recognizing a threat and asking for your creator to help you overcome it is something a wise person would do.

    • Posted By: Amusedone @ 10/29/2008 11:39:30 AM

Harry Potter and Charmed are to overt for Satan. Satan would more than likely infiltrate the Christian faith by subverting of the foundations of love and tolerance to suspicion, bigotry and hate. Turn the teachings of Christ upside down. Thus, I believe that the Fundamental Churches are the playground of Satan and the followers are unwitting souls.

I neither hate nor avoid those with belief systems different than mine. I respect their right to choose that was apparently granted by God. At the same time I believe we have to be careful to insure radical religeous beliefs do not control and pervert the judgement of our leaders. So many times we see inconsistencies in religeous practice as followers pervert and distort beliefssystems to fit the exigency of their current situation, desires, and ambitions. People like Palin ignore the teachings of Jesus and wear religeon on their bosoms like a badge of prestige. they are also willing to persecute those who disagree with them. This is exactly why our founding fathers wrote separation of church and state into the fundamental development of our nation; so we will be protected from those who not only want to control behavior but also every belief we have. As a human being I have a "GOD GIVEN" right to choose. God did not intend to have that taken away by other human beings. It is scary to think that people like JFREE think one man, Obama, can do so much he want to run to his guns. The real danger is people who can not tolerate to live with other peace loving people just because they don't believe a certain thing. It is that we need protection from and our founding fathers understood that.

    • Posted By: srj1 @ 10/29/2008 11:39:28 AM

      Elithian:
Our founding fathers did not write the separation of church of state into our constitution. They only tried to insure there was no one Church State that controlled the religious and political system of our country. They were Christians by the way. They came to this country to get away from the Religious State the Catholic Church was forcing on them and how they worshipped Jesus Christ.

I don't understand why people read a straight forward news report and try to put a negative spin on it. I read nothing negative here at all, it is simply a news report. Take from it what you will. It doesn't put Palin in a negative or positive light, it simply states her religious views. Faith is a very private and personal thing and our country was founded on people seeking freedom to practice any faith they wish. I grew up in a very rural and wilderness area of northern Minnesota and the local AG Church youth group was called Warriors For Jesus. I had many friends whom attended that church and they were very good people. I also believe this is what Obama meant when he said rural people often cling to religion and guns. That comment was not negative but could have been better explained. One of the major economic concerns in rural wilderness areas is hunting season. This is when the hotels are at maximum capacity. Almost everyone I knew owned a shotgun and a high powered rifle, commonly referred to as a deer rifle. Most had a deer camp or hunting cabin for use throughout the fall hunting seasons. Sportsmen are close to nature and nature is close to God. That is simply a way of life. The crime rates are very low and church attendance is very high. These are not religious nuts, but hardworking clean living people who enjoy the outdoors. Incidentally our dropout rates are very low and GPA's often above average. As a closing statement I personally am a lifelong Democrat and do not support the McCain Palin ticket but do have a high regard for them both. I am a Christian and proud of my rural roots.

Good post! But since you are a christian and probably know much of what the bible says about the issues in this election, can I encourage you to consider voting for the candidate whose views are closest to the bible, closest to the way God would want us to stand on these issues. Unfortunately,
Obama's views on abortion, among others, are completely contrary to the word of God. The bible says "if you are not for me, you are aganst me. His views are not for God and I don't want to side with someone who is against God.

Seriously, Newsweek/MSNBC?!? I just searched the Newsweek site for Barack Obama Reverend Wright, just to see if they had done such an in depth article on Obama's religious beliefs and portrayed with vivid descriptions and quotes what went on in the church he attended for 20 years. Guess what came up..."Oops, no results were found... did you mean barrack osama reverend wright?" Really, it happened. Try it. Good Grief, Newsweek. Seriously.

Oh, and those video clips have been out for ages and you choose to write an article about it less than a week before the election. I used respect journalists/journalism.

Some of you obviously try ???wayyyy??? to hard not to sound like a hypocrite. It???s actually pure comedy. I cannot tell the difference between a elementary school playgound and most blogs with all the name calling going on.

Palin believes Newsweek is an anti-woman news organization. In addition, people in the media like Tina Fey are getting bribed by Oprah Winfrey to demonize first female republican VP candidate e.g. Oprah Winfrey appearing on 30 Rock and hugging Tina Fey saying "Stay close" to reward her for mocking Palin to make her look un-presidential to ordinary people who are swayed by con artists like Tina Fey and Oprah Winfrey every day.

How many times must we hear about the end of days? Countless evangelicals have predicted it and tricked people into believing that it's coming soon, when the bible states man will not know when. There are examples too numerous to mention, but one famous one: The world was supposed to end in 1833 and then again in 1834 and thousands following William Miller of NY sold all of their worldly possessions and awaited that day, their day to be reunited with God. In never came, twice. For those of you that really believe that the world will end in your lifetime; what will you say on your death bed when you are wrong?
