I beg you to reconsider your account of "what is rarely seen in America churches today" - that is unless you rarely step into one. The scene you describe in Palin???s video is seen over and over again in my church and every Christian Spirit-filled Church across this nation. I am terribly disappointed with White's comment about how "The Assembly of God is more charismatic, very evangelical. Wasilla Bible is a very conservative church and therefore it's comfortable for politicians to be there and be part of it." Jesus was not always comfortable in his work for God to bring truth to this world on the Cross! And nor is the Holy Spirit so shy in changing a heart, and moving us to know God (view of a Christian). I highly doubt that Palin???s attendance of Wasilla Bible has anything to do with leaving because AG is too charismatic or evangelic. Exactly what point are you trying to make, Author? You would have questioned matters of her faith (providing your description of the video) if she had stayed at AG, just the same as you are now questioning her motive for attending WB. It is clear you don???t agree period with the fact she IS a Christian.
"Left-wing observers cite the clip as evidence that Palin is a right-wing Christian nut who believes in witches and exorcisms and, most probably, in crazy end-times scenarios. The right repeats its mantra about Palin's Bible-based values..." Author, whether you quote someone or not, I discern that clearly you have stated YOUR opinion on this matter in your text. But to continue- I don???t know WHO took the poll on the percentage of Americans that believe in witches. EVERY TRUE Christian knows that witchcraft exists. It???s talked much about in the Bible. Doing drugs is a form of witchcraft, Divination, horoscopes, fortune telling, mediums, Ouija boards etc - aka WITCHCRAFT. It???s in our primetime TV shows and Blockbuster movies! I can hardly understand your reason for this "educated article" being you barely provide information about WHAT witchcraft is considered to be for the uneducated reader, instead of scaring them half to death with your uneducated debate. Christ, by the way MANY times in the Bible cast out demonic spirits from people. Again, a strong belief in Christians and even those who are not- whom have observed the truth of ATLEAST good and evil forces in this world. Funny it is, that even non-Christians see Christ as at least a ???moral teacher???.
I am less frightened by someone who confesses their faith, than someone (like Obama) who does not confess all his true beliefs. It took him MONTHS to say anything AT ALL.

    O. K. let me get this straight.... has it really come to this? The American people are really going to hold her Christian faith against her. Have you attended an Assemblies of God Church. The people who attend these churches believe that God is a loving God and that He loves all people. (Not just white people or black people..ALL people)It also calls for God's people to be loving and forgiving. Did you point that out in your article? This religion also has a strong belief called Accountability. (Yes that means holding persons responsible for their wrongs AKA sins for those non-believers) No wonder so many people are supporting Obama. Who wants someone that will hold the people in government responsible for the misuse of our hard earned money or the abuse of power. Who wants someone who will require people to work for their money when you can just spread the wealth of others who are actually working. What entitles the people who do not work a right to people who actually do? I will never understand that. I guess that is why people question Christianity. The Bible says, 2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."
I for one am excited that she has not backed down from her Christianity just because she is a politician. If she won't back down from her faith that is a good sign that she will fight for the people who actually still believe in the real American dream. Yes I mean the one our country was founded on. (I am sure everyone knows who I am talking about THOSE GUYS THAT CALLED THEMSELVES CHRISTIANS. The Founding Fathers if this great nation)

    GOOD JOB PALIN!

Many Americans believe in witches... it isn't far fetched or wierd like this article leads the reader to believe... ask a witch... I am sure he or she would agree... As a Christian, like MANY other Americans, I share many of the same values as Gov. Palin and am SO sick of seeing Christian beliefs twisted through the lense of the media.... The media's attempts to skew Christians as crazy, apocalyptic, far fetched freaks is ridiculous... They have forgotten that these are the same beliefs that many of their families have held dear for years and nowthey themselves are so much more "enlightened" and thinks these beliefs are wrong... Whether you choose to believe in Jesus, witches, the end of the world coming in your lifetime... whatever... just be fair... which you aren't very good at.

HOW ABOUT REPORTING ON OBAMA'S CHURCH EXPERIENCE AT REV. WRIGHTS CHURCH. I BET THAT THERE WOULD BE SOME VERY QUESTIONABLE SERVICES. ALOT OF RACIAL REMARKS, ANTI-AMERICAN AND ETC. HOW ABOUT IT LISA AND ANDREW GOT THE GUTS TO GO TO REV WRIGHTS CHURCH OR BETTER YET BILL AYRES!!!

  • Posted By: nikkivoight@hotmail.com @ 10/29/2008 11:28:50 AM

Excuse me.... But WHY IN THE HELL are you discussing this matter? If this is open for discussion... then Obama better run for the hills and find his brother Osama Bin Laden and hide.... You guys are discusting!!!

  • Posted By: bonnieblack @ 10/29/2008 11:09:21 AM

This is funny. Is this all you could find on Gov. Sarah Palin? What have you guys found out with Obama's friends, the people he hangs around with? Lets see, what is more troubling a pastor touching you as he prays for you or a pastor that says from the pulpit God f*** America (Jeremiah Wright)?

    • Posted By: NNENA @ 10/29/2008 11:28:18 AM

      DEAR BONNIEBLACK, AMEN.
MY COMMENTS WERE NOT POSTED SO PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR POSTING THIS HOW FUNNY!!! What she wears, now what she believes!!!!!!! What are you left wing liberals afraid of??????
Why are you NOT addressing Obama's ties to another shady character such as Khalidi and the video NYTimes refuses to release on farewell party Obama went to, participated in praising this PLO supporter and was present during the reading of a poem by a young lady trashing Israel??? Why not ask Obama what was his comments on the poem.???? If he has nothing to hide then he would encourage the NYT to release the video. Why are you writing about issues PALIN'S CLOTHES, HAIR, and now her RELIGION that are not relevent and not addressing the more important issues such as this video about the president to-be and not of the VP makeover. The american people should be informed and that is your job. I guess this is what people like you( the writer) do at desperate times.

Wright or Witch hunter? Peace or world war? Do you think Palin has a cat-of-nine-tails?

  • Posted By: jeremythevol @ 10/29/2008 11:22:18 AM

I find this article to be misinformed. Though the author clearly did some homework it seems he takes many things out of context. The reality is that people of faith do stand with an odd system of beliefs. However, I do believe that is the point. It is faith. Something that is common place requires little to no faith. Embracing God sending his son Jesus to the earth to live as an example, die on a cross as a sacrifice for the mistakes of all mankind, resurrecting from the dead and ascending to heaven is far-fetched to the natural mind. The possiblity that one being can suffer for the rescuing of all humanity, and that by believing this story, confessing our faults, and turning from an old life can save us from ourselves is a challenging idea even for believers. However, I believe people aroudn the world and throughout history can identify when I say that there is something inside the heart of mankind that wants to believe and needs to believe. You can be critical if you want of Sarah Palin and her stance in the religious world but I can assure you that millions throughout time stand in agreement with the notion that Jesus is real and God cares that much about humanity.

I vote jesus and anyone who votes diference," will go to hell" Its not so hard. Amercia will fall its in gods word

  • Posted By: RedMoon22 @ 10/29/2008 11:27:21 AM

This is not only stupid but totally out of context, if anyone out there believes that the pastor was using Jesus the son of God in the same sentence with a witch is foolish.

Both blessing and the casting out of demons requires that you call upon the name of Jesus and if some of you would take the time to read your Bibles (the word of God) you would understand that Jesus gave us permission to use his name with authority to cast out demons and to triumph over all that is evil.

It would seem like the new media would have more to focus on then and outdated incident from 3 years ago.

Let talk about why the gas prices don't match the price per barrel of oil, or why our troops are still in Iraq with no sign of relief, or while billions of dollars is being spent on rebuilding Iraq when that money should be used to help people in this county.

    America needs God.

For the most part, a great story. I'm sure the intention of Newsweek was to make Christianity sound "crazy," but I see this piece as a witness to the world. Makes me want to vote for SARAH PALIN even more! This story is a great witness to those who are unbelievers. I also feel like Sarah Palin has EVERY RIGHT to believe whatever she wants to believe. Her religion should have NOTHING to do with her political ticket. For those of you who are trying to discredit her in some way for her personal beliefs, move to another country -- because in USA, we have freedom of religion. You cannot persecute her for her beliefs, though it seems the media is trying really hard. Sarah Palin and John McCain are what this country needs!!! Vote McCain/Palin in November!

    • Posted By: allysa @ 10/29/2008 11:27:20 AM

I don't care what religion she believes in, but she and others need to stay out of my womb! It's okay for her kid to make the "choice" to keep the baby after abstinence teaching obviously failed, but I will make my own choice, too... i.e., voting for Obama/Biden!

  • Posted By: coachrm @ 10/29/2008 10:54:27 AM

I am not a Sarah Palin supporter, but I do believe in the Word of God as stated in the Bible. I don;t have a problem with a politician believing in the Bible. The problem I have with her is that I don't believe she is ready for the world political scene. I have been to Juneau; it's not Anchorage. It is in the boonies. And what might be good in Juneau is not necessarily good for the rest of the U.S.

I saw several comments that are really reprehensible and prejudice. People of Faith can have Faith in the USA. When I see comments like I will be gald when there are no more Christians or they have no rights or they are inferior then what has happened to life and liberty it sound more like Communist Russia or Nazi Germany. Senator Palin has not forced her belief on anybody but some of you and your comments truly show your prejudice towards people of faith

    • Posted By: gbfiddler @ 10/29/2008 11:09:10 AM

But are you willing to take the alternative of The Democratic Socialist Party and its left leaning understanding of the Courts, the Constitution, and its nominee, who has a very questionable understanding of these, not to mention the colorful characters he has stashed away in his closet from his rise to power? I would hope not.

  • Posted By: coconutwilly @ 10/29/2008 11:27:01 AM

WOW!!!!!! Way to go Newsweek! This country finally has a woman with executive government experience selected as a Presidential running mate, and you run this crap. Yet, Obama the Boy Scout and Low Blow Joe get a free pass on experiences and associations in there recent past.

I hope you get an award on your great reporting!

How stupid are these so called reporters. Do they not know that to rebuke means the opposite of embrace. What are they trying to prove?

  • Posted By: nikkivoight@hotmail.com @ 10/29/2008 11:26:53 AM

NEWSWEEK SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO HAVE YOU TWO AS EMPLOYEES. ITS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS WHAT SHE BELIEVES..... YOU GUYS ARE IDIOTS....

  • Posted By: Merlin7 @ 10/29/2008 11:26:11 AM

The end is near...of Sarah Palin's political career.

  • Posted By: Double-Standards @ 10/29/2008 11:25:51 AM

I personally don't care what a political figure's religious beliefs are. However, since the primaries, I've heard over and over about Jeremiah Wright's connections to Obama. I didn't care about that. I don't care about Palin's church experience either but it's only fair to bring her controversial church to light since the same was done with Obama.

For those of you who are so upset by this article, you obviously don't have a lot of faith in yourself or your own beliefs. If you did, you wouldn't be freaking out so much.

  • Posted By: jfree @ 10/29/2008 11:18:38 AM

Once again the left wing media is doing whatever they can to destroy anyone with any type of morals and values. I wonder if Newsweek did a similar article on Obama and his religious relationship with Rev. Wright? The guy that hates all "white people" and blames us for AIDS and everything else! I guess I will just keep clinging to my guns and religion b/c when Obama gets elected he will try and take them away as well!

    • Posted By: listen_up @ 10/29/2008 11:25:31 AM

      You rock! Great comment!

Poorly written article, get your facts straight, and make a point. Did they not teach you that in journalism school? The comments on here are as confused as your article.

  • Posted By: sagebrushwy@yahoo.com @ 10/29/2008 11:25:21 AM

crazy end time senarios? Spend a little time in your bible and you might be amazed at the authority of it all, including "end time senarios." Things that were very difficult to believe in the bible about the end times only a hundred years ago, are easily able to be believed now. As an example, "nobody will be able to buy or sell"...easy to believe now with computers. Yes, count me in as a born again believer who will lean on Jesus come judgement day.

Seems to me that all people are not blind it's just that some just choose ignore what is right in front of them. The media is also a prime example, here they are going after Sarah P. with all these little stories to try and discredit her as much as they can. On the other hand here is Senator Obama who has had multiple associations with alot of questionable people, i.e.Rezko, Wright, Ayers, Meeks, Pfleger, ACORN, and Rashid Khal and the media give a brief statement of it and then it is nicely stuck in a closet. If Senator Obama chooses to surround himself with these people and their is influenced by their ideas what do you think America will look like in a few years? Why is it that the media will not dig into the background of Senator Obama?
