My final comment is in regards to the ???crazy end-times scenarios??? comment. Whether people think are greatest issue in war is Oil or not- I can promise with all that I have observed, even after going through a strong time of questioning my faith that INEVITABLY, all wars are fought on matters of right/wrong -good vs. evil- and RELIGION. And our final wars WILL be about the latter, which of course is what the Bible tells us. PS. Maybe you should look into Revelations, last book of the Bible. It is, of course the only book that predicted the Jews reclaiming Israel, having taken place in 1950???s ???A key ingredient in the Biblical recipe for Christ???s return. If you had any idea about what is going on in Israel, you would see how Revelations consistently lines up. If you???d like any of your readers to consider your opinions on politics and religion again, I suggest you start writing more educated/informative based articles.

"We battle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, and rulers in high places." Christians are called to love everyone, but pray against what controls them.
To the person(s) who wrote this; your sentence "an intensity rarely seen in America's mainstream churches" refers to the prayers. No offence, but you haven't been in church lately. This is the 'kingdom attitude' of prayer. More and more people are finding that there is power in prayer as they tap into the power of Jesus Christ. Being 'more charismatic, very evangelical' is, to a point, what we need to be doing. We need to step out in faith and prayer and pray our guts out for our nation and our leaders and our troops. "we are not given a spirit of timidity, but one of power and strength." They fight the battles everyday so we can be free to do stuff: you know like write stuff on the internet.

Although I somewhat understand what you are trying to say, this particular passage "Alaska is a place of all types of extremes???including religion. Alaska has a large number of Russian Orthodox, and adherents of Native American religion" seems a little off the handle. What does the Russian Orthodox church have to do with the Pentecostal Church or extremism? If you look at the history of the two churches as well as the incredible difference between the two, you would not put them underneath the same category. Please before you write such an off handed comment, please do your research!

WOW - I would fire the reporter who was one of 30 and came back with Sarah being blessed. That is funny. At least the pastor wasn't yelling and sreaming god damm america and blaming the US for Aids and all of the black's problems with gangs and drugs on white people. Seems to me they were praising God for God - I think that's a plus. Americans are used to that type of religion - but we're not used of farakahn wanting Blacks to kills whites and Wright's black radical idiologhy. See more Americans can relate to Sarah being blessed - unlike the majority who finds Obama's religion crazy.
One thing is for sure though NOT News Week Anymore - Sarah won't have to have a 30 min spot on TV reasuring Americans she is not radical like her precher and close friends.

Does Ms. Palin EVER answer a question? I've not seen her address one issue put to her yet. All she does is repeat whatever is being said about her. And the talking heads say she's exciting! Yeah!

Listen Closer. Study Logic, the Constitution, and History. You'll eventually understand. Unfortunately for the rest of us, not in time for next week's election.

We NEED someone in the White House who seeks after God and His will. Whoever gets elected is certainly going to need divine help

How really low can you go showing Sarah Palin or anyone else in their religious worship. I thought this was America? At least she wasn't participating in a church which seems to sanctify ridicule of our country!

I love how the liberal spin doctors change him rebuking"witchcraft" to your inferrence that she follows witchcraft or believes in witches to try and cast a few more votes away from McCain. Print the truth and let the chips fall where they may.

I didn't know there was anything wrong with being a Christian and worshiping God. This country was founded by men that believed in God and their religious beliefs swayed them in the decisions they made for our country. Now, christians are made fun of and people like Obama that sat under a man that taught hate in the pulpit and used God's name in vain is being put on a pedestal. Something is sadly wrong with this picture.

I have not read the article and more than likely won't until the same research is done on Barrak Hussein Obama's religious beliefs. I can tell you... his story is far more interesting than Sarah's.

****** SECRET PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT ***** (REPOST)

This is just the beginning of a nefarious 'Secret Progressive Movement' by Liberal Elitists to divide and/or fracture Christian Unity and ultimately DIVIDE America as a whole. These self-proclaimed PROGRESSIVE THINKERS truly believe that they are the enlightened ones and that "we" conservative/traditionalist are just a bunch of old and out-of-touch dinosaurs. NOT!
I absolutely refuse to let these ELITISTS silence me. Or tell me how to think! Please do not let these folks 'play' you. In other words, try to make you feel guilty about standing up for your beliefs i.e., consevative social values, TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE, fair tax system, etc.

PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT ??? Currently there's a STRONG push by the mainstream media toward 'PROGRESSIVE' views and/or ideologies. It's all part of the brainwashing game. The Progressives are flooding the newspapers, TV and radio airwaves with dangerous, yet very effective propaganda. They mix truths with lies, good with bad, take advantage of the weak and/or ignorant. Their main goal or objective is to throw enough WEDGE ISSUES at us so as to divide this great nation. It's the ol' 'Divide & Conquer' (D & C) game.

*Enlightened Progressives vs. Rightwing Religious Wacko's
    *Pro Choice vs. Pro Life
    *Pro Immigration vs. Anti-Immigration
*Gay/Lesbian Rights vs. Religious Zealots (aka Wacko???s)
*Poor & Middleclass vs. The Rich SOB's (Class Warfare)
    *Socialism vs. Capitalism
*Universal Healthcare vs. I Don't Know Status Quo, but please don't shove U.H. down my throat
    *More taxes vs. Less taxes
*I deserve a Free Lunch vs. No such thing as a Free Lunch, etc ...

    You get the picture! Cont:

      Secret Progressive Movement Cont: (Repost)

CHANGE OF CULTURE - God forbid, if OB should take office, standby for a subtle movement to destroy good old fashion family ties and values. Sure, OB will pretend he's all about unity, but behind close doors things will be TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

As a Christian/Catholic, it actually hurts me to even say this, but just like W exploited Christianity (actually K. Rove) to get elected, OB is going to do the EXACT OPPOSITE TO GET ELECTED.

In other words, it's time to 'villainize' the Christian Coalition. But do so in a very sly and discreet manner. Behind the scenes the Progressive Movement is pushing atheism, agnosticism, separatism, alternative lifestyles, and is slowly, but surely chipping away at good old fashion family values. Personally, I could careless about the alternative lifestyle thing. However! As a Christian Nation, we have to think about the overall message that we're sending our youth. To me, taking the "I don't give a SH!T" attitude about all this stuff is taking the easy way out. Again! We have to think about our youth---NOT JUST OURSELVES!

In a nutshell, here's the Progressive Message that's being secretly pushed or circulated:

"Christian Radicals are no different than Islamic Radicals"

I listen to a lot of talk shows---left, right, liberal, conservative---and this is the recurring message that I'm hearing more and more of each day. Granted most of time it's done in a more subtle tone, but on occasion they come straight out and make blatant statements such as the one above. Kid you not!

Personally, I don't think that religion should have an OFFICIAL ROLE in politics. As we all know, it actually states that in our constitution: Separation of Church and State ...

But the truth is, even in this day and age, it still does play a major role on how people ultimately vote.

THAT'S WHY WE HAVE ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THE 'PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT' SECRETLY ATTACKING THE POWER SOURCE--CHRISTIANITY!

      • Posted By: MeLizzard2 @ 10/29/2008 11:02:56 AM

Separation of church and state is nowhere in the Constitution.

      • Posted By: LDJ Alabama @ 10/29/2008 10:42:37 AM

In sum, I'm not trying to be an alarmist. However, one would have to be naïve to think that this SECRET MOVEMENT isn't lurking and/or working in the shadows.

ALL CHRISTIANS MUST UNITE NOW TO QUELL THE LIBERAL STORM!

Although Mc Cain is not perfect! He's our only HOPE for prolonging the inevitable...

Come Nov. 4 please get out and vote your conscience!

        MC CAIN / PALIN '08

        Author Unknown.

        GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

(Side note: Thanks CC! Hope you don't mind the bump and repost! This sums it up.)

Here we have more negative reporting, and this disturbs me. Who are you and why this immense interest interest in destroying a person who has really tried to make a difference? This whole campaign I am seeing something I haven't noted since the preWW2, as The german Facist party begam to quell any opposition to their message, so the Obama media is trying to quash any one who directly opposes the Obama message.
Palin is in an Evangelical Church, where:
    1] God is real
    2] Satan is real
    3] The demons are real
    4] your sins are real
But you focus is not on what she believes, but on the fact she opposes the Obama message

When I first saw Sarah Palin on a newscast I became apprehensive. Every thing I've seen about her since then have proven my instincts right.

    • Posted By: paproudmom @ 10/29/2008 11:02:03 AM

Then I would not trust your instincts. They are way off.

  • Posted By: buckchoi @ 10/29/2008 11:02:03 AM

I remember seeing a news article with the view it doesnt matter one bit if Obama is Christian, Muslim etc. Well why should we care about if Palin is Christian, a weird Christian or not a Christian.
(Please try to be consistent Newsweek/News outlets)
As for her views on other topics I think her problem is that she actually has a view and says what she thinks (right or wrong) and that draws fire from McCains campaign officials, Obama staff, and everyday individuals. However I would rather have someone speak there views/opinions based on self judgement and thought rather than what people told you to say and how to not step on anyones toes. Just my thoughts.

  • Posted By: JennGrover @ 10/29/2008 11:01:40 AM

Unbelievable! We find out Obama pals around with terrorists, lied about opting into public financing, holds socialist values, and you are worried about Sarah Palin's religious beliefs. If the author knew anything about Christianity in Africa, you would know that it is common for them to encounter people who actively practice witchcraft and that would be a natural thing for a Kenyan pastor to pray. another sloppy piece of journalism by Newsweek.

Liberal media strikes again! Anything to malign this woman!!

  • Posted By: Bren4America @ 10/29/2008 11:01:10 AM

I just don't understand how so many of you could actually think that having your religion in my face is OK. What if it were the other way around? Would you squeel like a pig? Religion has to be considered when a candidate is chosen. Once they're in office and changing our laws to suit their own ideologies is not the time to find out that they are not mainstream and could be a threat to our civil rights. I don't begrude anyone their right to practice what ever religion they choose but, I do when they try to tell me that I have to practice theirs. Isn't religious persecution why our ancestors landed in America?

  • Posted By: TruthLoverToo @ 10/29/2008 11:01:08 AM

This article was biased and offensive. It exudes liberalism and skepticism and attempts to cast doubt on Sarah Palin's rationale and capabilities. Shame on the media. Why don't you try reporting news instead of using your voice to sway public opinion?

  • Posted By: adc302002 @ 10/29/2008 11:00:49 AM

The only place where I read Jesus and Witches in the same sentence was where the author of this article wrote it. Never did I see or read where Palin said Jesus and witches in the same sentence. Leave it to the media to exaggerate everything a conservative does and down play everything a liberal does. This type of behavior from the media is what is helping to corrupt our country. This type of attitude is spreading because of the media and this a the media's way of desensitizing society to the more liberal views. We need prayer for our nation now more than ever. So, people need to lay off and find a life and stop picking on people that do nothing to you.
