Why is it national news when someone gets prayed for? Is it bad to ask for God's guidance and blessing on what we do? I actively pray for all our leaders every day and ask for God to guide them in their actions and policies. That includes those who don't belive as well. The bible says that God can turn the hearts of our leaders like channels of water. I would much rather see pastors praying over our country and leaders than not relying on God's help and guidance.

Palin is just a *** redneck that likes to kill animals as sport ... Also, she loves to drive her V8 truck, obviously showing no respect for nature. Rednecks like her are destroying America and the World ... Ignorance is dangerous!!!

Yikes!.... those that live in glass houses and all. This post shows the need for some real anger management - and doesn't add any legitimacy to a real discussion about politics.

Obama is not only for abortion and the so-called woman's right to choose (what happened to the baby's rights??), but he and his wife, a hospital administrator, support PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION, where the brains of the innocents are sucked out! How can Newsweek and other so-called journalists avoid reporting this very far-left stand??

  • Posted By: bballgirl32 @ 10/29/2008 10:32:43 AM

How short of a memory do Conservative Republicans have? Newsweek did numerous short, long and even a cover story on Senator Obama and his former pastor and his religious beliefs and how they were formed. Hello it was a COVER STORY!!!! Stop throwing stones in a glass house. Contrary to Conservative Christians judgments, you can be a Democrat, a Christian and strife to live a meaningful, righteous life. I want to know how extreme Governor Palin???s beliefs are. I want to know if she will send in a nuke to start the second coming. That is relevant to how her judgment will be impacted by her religion. I would want to know the same about anyone who may lead our country. Hypocrisy is a sin: You want to forgive John McCain for adultery, Bush for being a cocaine sniffing alcoholic (in his "youthful" 30s) but try to demonize Barack Obama for attending meetings to work on a Republican supported and appointed committee with Williams Ayers years ago! It amazes me how conservative Christians shield themselves in their cloaks of fake righteousness instead of truth. Stop tip toeing in the truth and walk in it.

Funny, you fail to mention Obama's 'cocain sniffing'.

I will never buy Newweek again. Your rag continues to spred Obamaism and your hate for Sarah Palin. As a combat veteran who fought for your freedom of speech, I cannot standby while your magazine spews hate for Her.

  • Posted By: rightwinger143 @ 10/29/2008 10:59:16 AM

Funny thing is this no one in the news media would be writing an article about her if she was a lesbian atheist. So in my opinion if the left wing radical liberals like Newsweek, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC don't like her then she must be doing something right. Go McCain/Palin!!

  • Posted By: LoriCx3 @ 10/29/2008 6:06:47 AM

I am appauled at the comment "that Palin is a right-wing Christian nut who believes in witches and exorcisms and, most probably, in crazy end-times scenarios". If you read your Bible, it specifically speaks of Paul rebuking a girl who was demon possessed, as well as those who were 'spiritist'. It also states in Deut. 18:9-11 "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft..." There are several places in God's Word that talk about witchcraft, exorcism, etc. Kudos to Sarah that she holds herself up to God and His Word.

    • Posted By: elpaulito @ 10/29/2008 10:58:58 AM

Yeah, they talke3d about witchcraft a lot in Salem, MA too. How'd that work out for us? Is that what you guys want again?

So, if someone has an abortion, are you going to call her a witch and burn her like the nuts then? What if I don't believe in your sorcery? What if you dont believe in the same kind of sorcery that the ruling sorcerors believe? Come on people!

Your quoting a book that was written over 450 years, has no decernable authors and edited by tyranical kings and snakehandlers. You dont even know what your saying, because the book is crap, so leave it out of real life. You are exactly whats wrong with rational discussion.

I don't understand why people read a straight forward news report and try to put a negative spin on it. I read nothing negative here at all, it is simply a news report. Take from it what you will. It doesn't put Palin in a negative or positive light, it simply states her religious views. Faith is a very private and personal thing and our country was founded on people seeking freedom to practice any faith they wish. I grew up in a very rural and wilderness area of northern Minnesota and the local AG Church youth group was called Warriors For Jesus. I had many friends whom attended that church and they were very good people. I also believe this is what Obama meant when he said rural people often cling to religion and guns. That comment was not negative but could have been better explained. One of the major economic concerns in rural wilderness areas is hunting season. This is when the hotels are at maximum capacity. Almost everyone I knew owned a shotgun and a high powered rifle, commonly referred to as a deer rifle. Most had a deer camp or hunting cabin for use throughout the fall hunting seasons. Sportsmen are close to nature and nature is close to God. That is simply a way of life. The crime rates are very low and church attendance is very high. These are not religious nuts, but hardworking clean living people who enjoy the outdoors. Incidentally our dropout rates are very low and GPA's often above average. As a closing statement I personally am a lifelong Democrat and do not support the McCain Palin ticket but do have a high regard for them both. I am a Christian and proud of my rural roots.

You could say the same about America too. But the Lord tells all believers to go to all the nations to tell them about the gospil of our Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ. That is a commandment of the Lord. The Bible also tells us, ( If you see your brother stumble " sin" and you do not tell him about it, then his blood is on your head). The Bible also so says to remove the plank from your eye before you can remove the beam from your nieghbors eye. I say to you , since you've walk the path of satan for many of years, try walking in Jesus Christs' path for a couple of months ( I mean truly give your life to Christ and gives us the believers of Christ Jesus you opinion.)

Obama claims to be a Christian - doesn't he believe the same doctrine as Sarah Palin? I am a Christian and I believe it! Why don't you ask Obama what his Christian beliefs are and check them out with scripture. You'll see who is real and who isn't. If you ever have any questions, check them out with God's word.
There used to be a time Christians were respected. But many, including the writers of this article Lisa Miller and Andrew Murr, have degraded our nation with withcraft. If you want to know what witchcraft is, check out what God has to say about it in the Bible or on biblegateway.com.
If you want to further study what this Christianity is all about and you happen to be in Wasilla check out Sarah's church. If you just happen to be in New York check out Times Square Church on Broadway.
My prayer for you is that you come to a relationship with the same saviour as Sarah, then you'll understand.

While Bush and McCain have acknowledge their mistakes, almighty Obama has not. He does not until it is politically expedient for him to do so.

The difference is- Newsweek didn't mock Obama's religious standing or belief. They "reported" on his afiliation with the "nut" Reverand Wrong. BIG difference.

The woman stopped short of calling the current Iraq war a jihad saying it's a "mission from god". That sounds like a great thing to be saying to muslim religious extremist in the middle of what they probably consider to be a jihad. We can't have a person in charge who shows this kind of lack of judgement. Yes religion is a personal choice but when you start putting it in a political context (ie: it's god's will we go to war, it's gods will we build a gas pipeline in alaska) then it's well beyond seperation of church and state. Recall that seperation of church and state is one of the basic tenents of our government. This is just one of the reasons Palin needs to go back home to Alaska where evidently you can do just about whatever you want with your government.,

I remember seeing a news article on the view it doesnt matter one bit if Obama is Christian, Muslim etc. Well why should we care about if Palin is Christian, a weird Christian or not a Christian.
As for her views on other topics I think her problem is that she actually has a view and says what she thinks (right or wrong) and that draws fire from McCains campaign officials, Obama supporters, and everyday individuals. However I would rather have someone speak there views/opinions based on self judgement and thought rather than what people told you to say and how to not step on anyones toes. Just my thoughts.

To the claim that most of the founding fathers were not christians here is the actual breakdown: Episcopalian/Anglican 54.7%, Presbyterian 18.6% , Congregationalist 16.8%, Quaker 7%, Dutch or German Reform 3.7%, Lutheran 3.1%, Catholic 1.9%, Huguenot 1.9%, Unitarian 1.9%, Methodist 1.2%, Calvinist 0.6%. Sorry but I am not buying your revised version of history.

The face of a person reflects the value of a person regardless how they lead their life. Votes are casted based on perception not for issues. We would have never voted to elect stupids if we have read what they say. Look at both candidates. They do not offer anything different - they just present the same issues little differently. That is it. Once a person is elected to a chair, that person work for the chair, not their faith. If one believes that they would be guided by faith there would have been lots of atomic bomb detonated in the past and in last 8 years. Each one trys to show the muscle but at the end they realize the reality and stays quite and put. The good example The present president who is negotiating with all parties good, bad and evil. It is not the faith, it actually is the heat that comes from the chair and the way it rotates when the ASS touches the chair. There are only few people who shine with passion in a century.......Mahatma Ghandhi, Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and a few I may have missed what you think others are worth.....................Voting does not mean you are sending someone to work for you............you have to work from within............

  • Posted By: pthomas10 @ 10/29/2008 10:57:06 AM

I do think it is fair to look at her beliefs - they my no means disqualifiy her for VP. But just as many use her faith as a positive and one reason to vote for her the same can be said that it can have a negative effect. I personally find it a little disconcerting that she believes the world could/will end in her life time. It is just one glimpse in the overall picture of a person. Let's say she was an athiest, would you all be so upset if that was reported in Newsweek? Would you still take the stance that one's religious beleifs (or lack there of) are sacred? I think not.

Can someone tell me why it is OK to present an article such as this blasting a certain demonimation of the Christian faith? I was raised in an Assembly of God Church and I am offended by the suggestion that it is a fanatical group of crazy people. I am offended because I know some wonderful, highly intellegent people who belong to this church, including my parents, who I happen to think are two of the most incredible people in the world!!! This type of attack is not OK and the writters and publishers should apologize for spreading such "hatred". This article is prejudiced and full of hate, which I believe Christians are accused of constantly. Hmmmm...

  • Posted By: snowbird2008 @ 10/29/2008 10:51:17 AM

The writer of the article needs to look at the definitions of the words from a Pentecostal viewpoint - entirely different than his secular understanding. Witchcraft is defined in the NT as manipulation of one person by another through a varity of means, as subtle as words or as blatant as exerting physical power..- who can deny that there isn't manipulation in the political arena today? and DA REAL TRUTH - you're using scriptures. How about both sides following another very important one in 1 Thess 5:15 " See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.". In another translation it says to pay back evil done to you by blessing the person. My point? The reason you're not to pronounce judgement on a person is because that places you in the position of God - and because we are full of imperfections, we can not possibly set things right in another person's life. Only God can.. However, .I can not expect a secular writer to understand what believers have learned through their own personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You will find that there are a lot of churches that have different shades of meaning to the most common of Christian terms and that is why an article like this does nothing to help people understand the person being written about. It only tends to inflame and create suspicion about something they do not understand. By the way, all of what was written about occurs very regularly in most Assembly of God churches - and other Pentecostal denominations. Including the one I've been a part of and on staff at for over thirty years. There is a very good reason why it is fast-growing. People are looking for something more and these movements direct one to the Person who satisfies that need.

His presence in that church for so many years implies tacit approval of the message being preached. Any normal person who had had enough after about 15 minutes! He obviously has no qualm swith Wright's beliefs, and with his children learning them as well.

    • Posted By: Non Profit counselor @ 10/29/2008 10:40:10 AM

Of course he agrees with Jeremiah Wright.. Otherwise, he wouldn't have sat in the same church listening to his diatribes for more than 20 years and yes, it's still a free country and we can all agree with Jeremiah Wright's comments or not. Hopefully, in 6 days Barack "Hugo Chavez's idealogue" Obama will be defeated (after all of those ACORN tainted votes are disallowed) and he can go back to the Senate to vote "present" so he doesn't do any more damage.

I could have sworn the USA has freedom of religion. So, does it really matter what any canidate believes in?. A yes answer is being discriminative against ones religion.
