History with the Muslim religion? What exactly is that history and are you suggesting that there is something wrong with being a Muslim? You're just another one of the sheep. Go back and join your flock!

Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. King James created this line when he had monks re-transcribe the Bible. It originally said, Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live. There is a large semantic difference. King James ran off the political steam the Scottish witchhunts created. Litteral interpretations is scary. How about the rights of Americans whose belief IS wiccan/pagan. Should they be targeted by politicians or churches?

Lisa Miller and Andrew Murr, should do more research before writing articles. If they did, they would realize that the word ???witchcraft??? has various meanings among conservative and evangelical Christians. ???Witchcraft??? can be used to define those who practice or follow a religion other than Christianity. The title of this article is not only ignorant, it is misleading, especially to those who rely upon the media, Hollywood and YouTube to help them decide who to vote for. Regardless of Palin???s religious views, this woman stands for something.
People today are voting for ???change???, I believe very few can define what ???change??? stands for, and how ???change??? will influence their life.

Palin is just a ignorante REDNECK that likes to kill animals as a sport and drives a V8 SUV, which shows her total disregard for nature and others. Only IGNORANTS can vote for a woman like that, you can even see in her eyes her evil ambition; I'm sure she'll love to see McCain died if he's elected president ... BE CAREFUL, rednecks running the country has proven to be TOO dangerous for America and mankind.

    • Posted By: Non Profit counselor @ 10/29/2008 10:55:20 AM

Think about what you're writing before you begin. Then you'll be able to put together a cogent sentence. Millions of Americans kill animals for sport (usually they're eaten or donated to local food banks for liberals who were too lazy to get a job, contribute to the tax base or just figured to have someone else do it for them; typical Obama supporters). If real rednecks ran the country, we'd be a lot better off.

She may be a red neck but she doesn't need English lessons to correctly spell a comment

You know what IGNORANTS do? They CAPITALIZE words because they don't think peolpe will understand their BRILLIANT sentence structure. What a f'n moron. One thing I know, you wouldn't have the balls to insult one of us rednecks to our face. And you'll be crawling to us to feed your sorry ass when you can't get food from a store.

For all that has been said and done, I have already cast my vote since it is a civic responsibility to do so. However, I also have to believe that God is still in control and for whatever his reasons are, will place in office who he wants there. Maybe Bush was put in office because he professed to be a Christian and Kerry didn't, even though Bush made major mistakes (I know that's an understatement) and yes, Bush did cheat in the voting process in Florida with his brother Jeb being governor, BUT...Bush messing up so badly is partially what has brought our country to this point where the candidates can't just run their mouths like in ALL past elections. The American people are calling for accountability on EVERY level and we're not just accepting any answer, we can't afford to!

Enter Your Comment With all due respect Tony. The mess we are in is not now or will it be later the man who is President. The very people investigating everything (The House and Senate) mak the laws and everytime they messup its point the finger at everybody else time. I don' know how you voted thats your right as a citizen, however, people seem to forget that the real Washington corruption is in the hall of Congress. By the way, theHouse and Senat have been controlled by Democrats the last two years. Nancy Pelosi in her own words said they were going to clean up corruption. What have they done for thelast two tears or the last fifty for the minoriy except make them dependant on the government at taxpayers expense? A big fat NOTHING because they would have you believe they care but there is no proof in thepudding.

The responses here are quite disturbing and seem painfully out of touch with reality.

First, I don't find any obvious bias in the way this article was written. It is simply reporting on an event which did, in fact, occur. However, there is obviously some offense being taken by those who want to show the article as mocking or deriding Christianity. The fact is, in this country, most Christians are far more mellow, reasonable, and down-to-earth and so, yes, when we see a clip of a religious ceremony that starts talking about witches and demons our curiosity gets piqued. Just what the heck is going on? Its not an unreasonable question.

Secondly, anyone who says that Obama has not been targeted in the same way, or try to suggest that Palin is being targeted unfairly is simply deceiving themselves and living in denial. Even in these messages we continue to get references to Obama being a Muslim, which is absolutely not true but the extreme religious right seems completely dedicated to continuing to spread that piece of fiction.

If these responses are any indication of who will be voting next week, and precisely what they are thinking, then we are indeed in big trouble.

I will pray for all you liberal Democrats...think of how easy it is to be a liberal Democrat. No morals, no values, no faith in Christ. It takes a "real" person to be a Christian Conservative, you work hard to live your life right, you strive daily to live more Christ-like, you stand up for your moral beliefs and values dispite all the "worldy" temptation that you liberals try to tempt others with. Anyone could be a liberal...how easy life would be. I prefer to be a leader, not a follower by "going with the flow." I am a Christian daughter, sister, wife, and mother and I am proud to say..."I go against the flow." Proud McCain/Palin supporter!

did you ever stop to think that maybe its the other way around? oh excuse me you are a christian & don't think. look up the definition in the dictionary of the word liberal before you accuse people of having no morals. being liberal is what got jesus in trouble in the first place. being tolerant, understanding & asking all people to love one another, isn't that what jesus would do?

      • Posted By: oneoftheflock @ 10/29/2008 10:53:57 AM

being tolerant, loving everyone and anything goes is what the Anti Christ would do and it sure looks like he is coming! Jesus came to divide the sheep from the goats. I pray all you sincere human beings out there wise up and become a sheep. READ YOUR BIBLE

I am a liberal Christian and have never entered an Assembly of God Church- That said I do not think taking a section of a religious service and posting it on U tube is a real reflection of a service. I am not in agreement with the emphasis of this group's Christianity, however i do not think it wrong for Gov. Palin to be prayed over by ministers for God's guidance in her efforts as a political leader or in her campaign- and I find the secular review offensive. We want politicians to be less corrupt, but when someone tries to have a moral/spritual base we make fun of them. I think you need to stay out of people's spiritual lives and stick to the issues.

Actually, the only unifying is among those who trust in Christ as their Lord and Savior. We are clearly warned that by following him, we will become enemies of unbelievers. The love you speak of is that He gives each of us the choice to follow Him or not. Either way, there are consequences. One pleasant, one not so.

Just watched the interview with "Tito the Builder" , an American citizen from Columbia. He said the treatment of "Joe the Plumber" by the Obama campaign and the liberal media was what happens in Venezuela when citizens speak out. WOW! What does that tell you about Obama?/???? Tito said he is afraid of what the liberal media will do to him for speaking up for Joe the Plumber.

I agree 100% with your comment. We are headed for a dictatorship under Obama, and there isn't enough people that see or understand that. Since when are we not allowed to ask challenging questions of a politician? We're not allowed to question him, disagree with him, challenge him, or even offer comments that don't agree with him. America has five days left to wake up.

  • Posted By: fholl @ 10/29/2008 9:19:45 AM

Why don't you left wing biased folks talk about the real weird stuff? How an African American who runs for president has attended a church for twenty years. A church ( and I use that word loosely) that hates white people and sees us as the oppressors and will not allow a white person to be a member because of their race. It is so obvious that you see down a one way street but racism goes both ways. You are so slanted

in your narrow thinking that it stinks. Yes, I attend a Bible believing church and sat next to Wynette last Sunday who happens to be black. All anyone with any sense has to do is read your bashing and they too will believe in witchcraft and mind control which is exactly what the mainstream media agenda is all about. Like it or not, there is a God and you one day will be judged for your persecution of anyone who mentions the name Jesus.
I would tell you to go to Hell but you already are well on your way. The American people are tired of
your slanted bias crap. What about the Muslim religion, Mohammed, or the Koran? The fact that death is a
suitable thing for anyone who does not buy in to it? I suggest you send your people back to school for History
lessons. Let's see. I forgot. It isn' taught anymore because it refers how this country was founded on
freedom of religion and faith in God. I guess I won't get a free subscription to Newsweek because of my view
but that is alright. I have found a cheaper toilet paper. It is called the New York Times

    • Posted By: Vivi @ 10/29/2008 10:53:42 AM

What about the Muslim religion, you say?
Well, it's called Islam, it has the same patriarch (Abraham), and many of the same moral laws as Christianity, Judaism, and any basic good common sense.

What about the Koran, you ask?
First, it's Qu'ran. Second, what ABOUT it?

What about "death being a suitable thing for anyone who does not buy into it"?
      What are you talking about?
Are you referring to "infidels," because the OT is noooo different with regards to war and death.
Or are you referring to Islamic Jihadist terrorist ideology? Because that has nothing to do normal Muslims.

It seems your history, theology, and philosophy teachers were a bit remiss.

  • Posted By: A Young Pentecostal Believer! @ 10/29/2008 10:53:38 AM

What Palin and Pentecostals believe in are Bible based facts. IF you get your Bible out and read it speaks about wars and rumors of war and these things are here. Look at Iraq and the mess with Syria. The best thing for America and all nations to do is embrace what WE PENTECOSTALS believe and get salvation like the BIble says. Don't mimic us for what we believe because when Jesus does come back to rapture his people I pray that you as well as I will be in that number. The Bible says you must repent (cry out to Jesus for forgiveness of your sins), be baptized in Jesus name, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And YES the Holy Ghost does speak to you. And YES Jesus does speak to his people. If you want to find out join me and get the Holy Ghost and see. Palin has a right to pray to God and seek his guidance on whatever issues she feels necessary because he said in his word to acknowledge him in all of your ways and he will direct your paths. That does not just mean your family issues it means EVERY ISSUE. IF she walks away from her beliefs as a pentecostal believer that would be a mistake. God bless you!

Why don't you do a 3 page story on Obama's affiliation with his radical friend Jeremiah Wright and the going's on at that church? I guess that would not be fair ? would it? Newsweek and the rest of the media is so in this guys back pocket , it is pathetic! You all make me sick! I don't personally care about there religious affiliations or what "radical" church they go to.None of us are perfect!

    differeelse thsomeone else doesn't

    • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/29/2008 10:17:19 AM

It already happened a year ago. Do a web search for all of the crap the GOP spewed about the fallacious connection between some of Wright's sermons and Obama's beliefs.

Just because I go to your house and listen to you rant about Obama's this and Obama's that does no make me a Republican by my passing association to you.

Palin, on the other hand, is a religious extremist.

      • Posted By: MeLizzard2 @ 10/29/2008 10:36:25 AM

You don't sit in the pews of a racist, hate-filled church for 20 years without either absorbing a bit of the vitriol yourself, or tacitly endorsing what the pastor is saying. Most normal, intelligent, ethical people I know would have listened to about 15 minutes of that bile and thought, "whoa, not for me!". It's not guilt by association so much as Obama obviously has no problem with the hate.

        • Posted By: MeLizzard2 @ 10/29/2008 10:39:16 AM

Following the Bible is not extremist, it's Christian. Maybe being a Christian IS extreme, relative to the current American culture.

          • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/29/2008 10:53:17 AM

As evidenced by the mere postings on this forum, Palin's beliefs do not resonate with all Christians. For example, I cannot name one Protestant I know of that would vote for her on religious grounds. Why?

Because she's a religious extremist and professes that Protestants are all going to her version of hell. Which probably involves an eternity of wolf-hunting helicopter rides with her and Todd.

Plus, her religious extremism is evident in the divine mandate she has given the Iraq war. Muslim terrorists have Jihad. How is Palin different, other than coming at it from the stance of a wealthy American elitist?

        • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/29/2008 10:44:04 AM

Also, the church is not racist or hate-filled. You draw a conclusion from a soundbyte from one sermon out of hundreds, which if you were to listen to more of than just a byte you might find yourself agreeing with.

        • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/29/2008 10:42:31 AM

And so if you feel that, aren't you compelled to turn that lens on Palin's "vitriol"? Or is your logic one-way?

  • Posted By: me45 @ 10/29/2008 10:52:55 AM

Obviously the author of this piece knows absolutely nothing about Christianity. Go read the Bible!!!

  • Posted By: writing_bear @ 10/29/2008 10:52:49 AM

Since Newsweek can criticize her on her religious beliefs, perhaps they might find time to do some work on The Obama /Ayers Connection. Or how about explaining to us how Marxist Obama is. Or what about asking Obama to let clear up this controversy with his birth certificate that no one been allowed verify to be a true legal document. Maybe they can tell us about Obama???s ACORN connection. How about Democrats link to Freddy Mac and Fanny may that just sent the economy to the toilet. I can be sure if any republican was involved in that the hearings would be all over the media until we were all sick of it.
You protect you own and many of us who pay attention are sick of it. There is a reckoning coming I hope our news media can pull their heads out of their asses before they lose the freedom of the press that they abuse way too often.

  • Posted By: Cincinnati Rick @ 10/29/2008 10:52:43 AM

This story says a lot more about Newsweek than it does about Palin.

Why this over wrought concern about the implications of the religious views of a VICE PRESIDENTIAL candidate and no concern about the really vile religious associations of a PRESIDENTIAL candidate?

  • Posted By: rightwinger143 @ 10/29/2008 10:51:59 AM

jrpackard, Obama can not be a christian and believe in abortion the way he does and votes. Jesus died all the cross so that all men can be saved, and not so that we may kill unborn babies in the mothers womb. I have read the bible and I don't see one reference to there being many ways to heaven. In fact I see the opposite, it plainly states that Jesus is the way to the Father and that none can come to him but by Jesus. Barak has publicly stated that there are may ways to heaven. So I am really confused on how Barak can be a christian when he doesn't hold christian values. The word christian means "christ like" and someone who does not believe in the sanctity of human life or not believing in absolute evil or good can not be a christian. Period.

  • Posted By: Keegan9 @ 10/29/2008 9:38:00 AM

In response to the comment posted by sheperd (did you mean shepherd? because if you did, you spelled it wrong), I agree that unwavering morals are admirable in one's personal life (although I'm not convinced that Sarah Palin has them--she did have someone fired for personal rather than professional reasons, which is a most immoral act). I would like to point out, however, that Christians do not have a monopoly on morality. Many Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Pagans, and yes, even Atheists, also hold very strong moral convictions. You might be surprised to learn that many of these moral convictions are the same as the ones you hold. Just about every religion forbids acts like killing and stealing (even most Atheists will agree on these points). Most uphold the family (even if they may define it differently than you) as a strong social and moral unit and encourage the faithful to treat everyone as they would like to be treated. Most religions encourage values like generosity and humility. Most can agree that greed and self-interest are a problem because our most selfish impulses tend to work against the greater good. What is dangerous about Sarah Palin is that she does not stop at upholding a moral standard that we can all agree on. She tried to ban books that she did not like, in spite of our Constitutionally guaranteed freedom of the press. She wants Creationism (i.e. the beliefs of her own religious faith) taught in public schools, to children who may not be from a Christian background. The founding fathers built separation of church and state into our Constitution because they recognized that there can be no true religious freedom for anyone unless the government is secular. The moment religion begins to be mandated, everyone's freedom to practice their own faith is compromised. Public school students who are not Christian have a right to not be Christian in this country (just as you have the right to be Christian), and they have the right to not be forced to study the creation myth of a religion to which they do not belong. While Christians may wish that everyone could achieve Christian salvation, they need to recognize that their own right to practice Christianity is protected by the same Constitutional provision that they are so actively and passionately fighting against. I repeat: your right to practice the sect of Christianity in which you believe is protected by the separation of church and state. In closing, you might be surprised to learn that many liberals DO read and believe in the Bible (I am one of them). The difference is that we ALSO read and believe in the Constitution. I humbly suggest that you take a brief break from thumping your Bible and go do the same. You might be surprised by what you find.

    • Posted By: Christian and Proud @ 10/29/2008 10:05:14 AM

I think you should really take a look a your constitution. The constitution allows for freedom of religion not freedom from religion. And at every constitutional congress the Bible was read and God's guidance was requested. please get your facts straight.

      • Posted By: Keegan9 @ 10/29/2008 10:51:26 AM

My facts are straight, thanks. Try checking your own. The founding fathers were Theists. They were not evangelical Christians in the modern sense. John Adams was Unitarian Universalist. Unitarians believe that all religions are an equally valid path to enlightenment. Thomas Jefferson was a secular humanist (i.e. someone whose beliefs and ideals were shaped by the thinkers of the Enlightenment more than by any religion). The published letters of the founding fathers provide ample documentation of this. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are based in the ideals of the Enlightenment, not Christianity. This is highlighted by the resistance of many notable Evangelical preachers to the Constitution when each state was considering its ratification. There are numerous published letters and sermons from preachers of the day who were decidedly against the Constitution because they feared it ignored God entirely. The word God does not appear in the Constitution once, nor does it quote the Bible. And by the way, it was called the Continental Congress, not the Constitutional Congress. And no documented, reliable contemporary source says anything about the Bible being read at their meetings.

I don't care where she goes to church or what she believes or doesn't believe. I don't care if she hates witches or loves them. I don't care if she thinks abortion is morally wrong, I don't care if she thinks homosexuality is a sin, and I don't care if she thinks monkeys weren't our ancestors. I don't even care if she believes that the End is near.

What I care about is her assumption that the rest of us need to believe what she believes, and that those of who don't believe are not worthy of equal protection under the law, or have a right to privacy, and a right to our own beliefs.

What I care about is when her beliefs get in the way of my beliefs.

I care that she would appoint judges to the Supreme Court who would infringe on a woman's right to make choices about her own body, I care that she would even think about banning books, and I care that she thinks one religion - hers - is superior to anyone else's.

She can have her Jesus and witches, her bible prophesies, she can even have the Last Frontier.

I believe in fairness and separation of church and state.

So far, I haven't seen anything telling me that Sarah Palin shares my beliefs..
