This article is ludicrous. If you don't seem to care what Barack Obama believes then Sarah Palin's beliefs should mean nothing to you as well. You don't care about Barack Obama's past associations then Sarah Palin's former pastors shouldn't hold any interest to you. This article reeks of political bias.

  • Posted By: RedViolets @ 10/29/2008 10:50:46 AM

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS ARTICLE! What are Barack Hussein Obama II's religious beliefs?!?!?! Why is it OKAY to discuss Palin's ties to Christianity, but it is dismissed as ridiculous to discuss Barack Hussein Obama's history with the Muslim religion. You people HAVE GOT to recognize your own hypocrisy!

  • Posted By: pure @ 10/29/2008 10:50:29 AM

First off, you can't definitely tell that is Mrs. Palin, secondly, the Pastor's words don't match his hand movements.
Whomever wrote this, you say that the prayer was with an "intensity rarely seen in America's mainstream churches". No offence, you must not go to church much. This type of prayer is becoming the norm as more and more people tap into the power of Christ. This 'kingdom attitude' is sweeping the nation and prayer is getting exciting. "We battle not against flesh and blood, but against powers, principalities, and rulers in high places" IF this is a real clip, there is nothing wrong with it at all. There is no d***ing of America and it is against no one. It is for protection. That's it. She, if it is her, didn't ask for it. She recieved when it was offered. And God bless her for it.

I see a lot of Born Again Christians making comments defending their faith here. I, too, am a born again Christian and I have studied the Bible and the Teachings of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Saviour, but no where in his teachings do I see him encourage the bitterness, deceitfulness and utter evil babble that has been spewing from the Christian Right. Jesus taught Love, Faith, hope and forgiveness. Jesus told the rich men that wanted to follow him to sale all they had, give it to the poor, pick up the Cross and follow Him. He never said, "You worked hard for what you have. It's all yours. Let these lazy bums and beggars lift themselves up and make their own way." Nope; He never said that. He said that if you had plenty that it was a blessing from God and you should practice love, Faith and Charity. Now is Jesus a Marxist? Seems He was and is, being that He never waivers, a Socialist.

    • Posted By: paproudmom @ 10/29/2008 9:08:54 AM

Jesus was never a socialist or a marxist. You obviously have no understanding of the terms. Wonder what Jesus would have thought of the widespread killing of the unborn? As far as angry comments have you ever heard of riighteous anger. Even Jesus got angry.

      • Posted By: nimodahooligan @ 10/29/2008 10:50:25 AM

i remember a conversation with you where i was "passionately frustrated", would that not be righteous anger on my behalf?? or is it only righteous if im protestant or christian or jewish or of some denomination? can the anger and frustration between the right and the left be considered righteous anger or frustration?

      • Posted By: nimodahooligan @ 10/29/2008 10:47:08 AM

yea, haha....you know if jesus was ALIVE and HERE NOW...he most likely would be for the good of all people, in government as in his life...something like socialism...but then everyone would be okay with it? would it be jesusism? and would you support it PROUDMOM because he is jesus? or if you didnt know it was jesus would you bash the belief because its "socialist or marxist" two views that didnt even exist until the late 18th century...

ive never seen you complaining about the sociolistic aspects of this country that greatly improve your way of life. you know, government roads, social security, police and fire departments, medicare...

      • Posted By: jmonarchy @ 10/29/2008 9:16:51 AM

Yes He did get angry. At the Scribes and pharisees and the money changers in the temple. He didn't condemn or practice hate like you radical Left Wing Commies continue to do. Jesus had harlots and thieves and all sorts of sinners around Him because that's who He came for. Not the self-righteous, condescending jerks that think they know best. He gave us a free will to choose. He didn't legislate morality; He gave us a choice. So now you and your church know better and want to legislate morality. Good luck when you get the the Lambs Book of Life, Pal.

    • Posted By: benluclar @ 10/29/2008 9:08:08 AM

And did God also create a baby to be torn limb from limb in partial-birth abortion for which Obama supports this act and ''choice''?
Christians in this country are sincerely worried about this man as our President.
He cannot ''change'' anything alone, but he and his Democratic Congress, which is so enthralled with him, can turn around an already suffering nation into a nation of TOTAL non-believers. And the Christians who will be left will be powerless, as if we are not already.
POWER for the next week can only be in OUR PRAYERS that this man is not exalted to his place in the world to ''change'' the things that will ultimately really matter.
I do not NEED a chicken in the pot on my table. I will PROVIDE my own.

Why hasn't Newsweek reported about Obama's connections with a Dr ManSur who is a radical Moslem who got obama enrolled in harvard university?? and why is obama's graduate dissertation mysteriously missing?? Have any journalists tried to find it so that the American people reaaly can know who he is? don't they have a right to know in this very critical election? Is true journalism the search for true truth lost for good??

  • Posted By: corvetteguy @ 10/29/2008 10:50:02 AM

I???m sorry Newsweek, but nobodies buying your left-wing slanted propaganda. I grew up reading Newsweek as a respected magazine, but it???s top editorial staff has taken it into the same radical left-wing slant as the likes of two other propagandists, MSNBC, and the New York Times.
I know you???re frothing at the bit, at the thought that the most liberal member of congress, might win the White House, alongside left wingers Nancy Pelosie, and Harry Reid, but you might want to hold up a little on your big celebration party you???re planning. A huge segment of the population still believes in the American way, where hard work is the key to succeed in life, not left-wing socialism. You know,... the ???Great Silent Majority???.
You might want to take a quick look at MSNBC???s television ratings, and a another quick glimpse at how ad revenues are dropping like an Alaskan thermometer at the New York Times. Anymore, the Times is basically only used to wrap fish enthrals, while taking them to the trash can. What a shame Newsweek, is following in their footsteps. Sad......very sad.

I am not a supporter of Sarah Palin, but I do believe in the Word of God as I see it in the Bible. I have no problem with a politician believing in the Bible -- the problem I have with her is that I don't believe she is ready for the world. I have seen Juneau. It is not Anchorage; it's in the boonies and what maybe alright in Juneau is not necessarily right in the of the U.S.

Yet another ignorant attempt to damage the public image of Alaska's Governor and McCain's Running mate? Be advised that I use the term ignorant in the sense that it is uninformed. Predominantly, it seems uninformed as to the nature of Christianity, the teachings of Christ, and the norms of religiosity in this nation. Since when is the average American deeply religious? Since when do "conventional" congregations have a corner on God? Since when does the Bible or the teachings of Christ or the Scriptires refute that there are any such thing as witches? From my understanding it is the admonition of the Scriptures to stay away from those that practice such. Do your research. You, the author of this stuff, are helping to discredit the very industry in which you work by the purveyance of random idiocy intended to damage the credibility of political hopefuls. Here's a question for you. Take this and run with it. Has anybody looked into how much scotch whiskey Joe Biden puts down in a day? May sound crazy, and it is possibly unfounded, but it sounds no more silly to accuse Socialist Party (the new unofficial name of the Democratic Party) VP candidate Joe Biden of alcoholism than to question the beliefs of Sarah Palin in the same vein that well posed questions have been put to Socialist Presidential Candidate, Barak Obama.

Haven't read an article in Newsweek in 20 years or so- and now it will be at least another 20 years. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to read a "news" publication that actually reported the news? This article would have fit niecely in a publication like The Enquirer, or wow- maybe even The Star! Such quality reporting.................

  • Posted By: writing_bear @ 10/29/2008 10:49:04 AM

Since Newsweek can criticize her on her religious beliefs, perhaps they might find time to do some work on The Obama /Ayers Connection. Or how about explaining to us how Marxist Obama is. Or what about asking Obama to let clear up this controversy with his birth certificate that no one been allowed verify to be a true legal document. Maybe they can tell us about Obama???s ACORN connection. How about Democrats link to Freddy Mac and Fanny may that just sent the economy to the toilet. I can be sure if any republican was involved in that the hearings would be all over the media until we were all sick of it.
You protect you own and many of us who pay attention are sick of it. There is a reckoning coming I hope our news media can pull their heads out of their asses before they lose the freedom of the press that they abuse way too often and fail to properly exercise when it is really needed.

Come on JR he sat in that church for 20 years and did not know that was how reverend wright believed! If his judgement as president is as bad as his friends Ayers, Wright< and now a PLO spokespreson. He says McCain is guilty by association with Bush but he is not with his friends what a hipocrit!!!!

Yup! She surely sounds like one of those Bible-reading, God-fearing people who founded this amazing country! God love her for it, too.

Assemblies of God denominational magazine, the Pentecostal Evangel, October 26, 2008, p. 11: "Obama . . . had no trouble articulating how his Christianity buoys him. 'I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and that I am redeemed through Him,' Obama declared. 'That is a source of strength and sustenance on a daily basis.' " I am grateful that the AG leadership takes a more intelligent position than some of its members here.

I say that your reporters need to spend more time in the Word of God. The beliefs of Sarah Palin are clearly biblical and written in black and white. The problem with the government right now is that there aren't enough Sarah Palins in office. This country was dedicated to God by George Washington. We need to get back to that. Period.

    • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/29/2008 10:48:21 AM

BTW, most of the founding fathers were DEIST and held a profound lack of trust for Christianity.

    • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/29/2008 10:34:16 AM

And yet she doesn't follow those beliefs.

And the world is not black and white.

Go Science!! Go true, compassionate monotheism!!

The republicans want to win with lies and smear and character assassination and FRAUD.
Dirty tactics copied from Karl Rove book have not worked so, only choice now is FRAUD and it has started.
So watch out for this which is already going on:
    - The CHANGE OF VOTING DATE ON NOV 5th FRO DEMOCRAT, an old trick, fliers are already being distributed.

    - COLLEGE STUDENT CAN T VOTE AT THEIR COLLEGE PLACE, knowing there will be a big turnout this election college student are a target. BE SMART AND VOTE!

    - COLLEGE STUDENT WILL LOOSE SCHOLARSHIP IF VOTE AT COLLEGE PLACE, another lie to intimidate and suppress vote.

    - POLICE WILL GET COLLEGE STUDENT WITH DRIVING FINES AT THE POLLS, another old one applied to black neighborhoods before, now to students.

    - MACHINES SWITCHING VOTES FROM OBAMA TO McCAIN (never the other way around, what a coincidence!). Look well that the right candidate is selected and try to touch the screen in the center, not at the edges. Don t press to vote UNTIL you are sure your candidate is selected. Call for help if necessary.
IT IS ALREADY HAPPENING, DON T BE FOOLED!!!

    - ROLLS PURGED ILLEGALLY, in GA thousands purges because on citizenship. The court ruled they can vote! Make sure you are in the rolls and contact the media if you see foul play.

    • Posted By: Non Profit counselor @ 10/29/2008 10:48:11 AM

Why not let the illegals vote?
      Why not let felons vote?
Why not let ACORN register people multiple times and animations to vote?
Could be because it's illegal. PS Hillary would have been a better candidate, but Bill already knew that.
      PS

thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. KIng James had the monks who were retranscribing the Bible to pen this phrase. It originally stated thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live. King James made his political career off of the with hunts of his time. Do we need to relive that? Last I checked there were several wiccan/pagan centered religions out there. Does their faith not count?

  • Posted By: Palin who? @ 10/29/2008 9:27:57 AM

Most of the comments below afirm that America is still a very scared and biggoted country. You all should be really proud of yourselves. Focus on what they are going to do during their political career that will affect you, not what their personal-religious beliefs are. G.W. sure does have a lot of great speeches on how scary those Muslims are...looks like you guys have taken notes.

    • Posted By: soldouttoJesus @ 10/29/2008 10:47:49 AM

It is IMPOSSIBLE for one who believes in the Bible and God to separate the job and the person doing it from that person's belief in God and the Bible. A person's spiritual beliefs and practices, or the lack thereof, determine his or her character. Your ability to live a moral, honest life comes from God and someone who was taught principles from the Bible told the person(s) who told you. Oh, and, "G.W." as you call him, has been painting an accurate picture all along. Some Muslims interpret the Qu'ran as saying that they should kill every single man, woman and child in the world who does not follow that book and it's teachings. All this time, the fight has been about whether one book is true and the other false...

When are you going to show Obama in his Trinity Church or His famous party beating farewell to Khalidi?
The questions you should be asking is "What are Obama's religious believes? Sarah is not running for the presidency, Obama is?
