This is a stupid misleading title as usual. Thanks Newsweek for showing us who you are voting for. I didnt hear dam Amercia i heard bless and make us right and keep from evil. She is being prayed for to keep from corruption even if you dont believe the fact that she is trying to avoid is goo and it wasnt a stunt to get Christian votes it was 3 years ago. She is more seasoned as a cical servant and closer to the people who give there children and money to keep this country from slavery and oppresion which reeks through the rest of the world. Mcain Palin in 08 at least i can just come out and say it and not be chicken.

The writers of this article, the Media and a lot of your "Hollywood Stars" have absolutely turned this election into a nightmare by their endorsement of Obama. People are sick of all of you and we don't need YOU to tell us who to vote for. I am Catholic and a far cry from a Pentecostal but I respect Palin and her beliefs. And by the way, her pentecostal beliefs are no different than any other Assemble God Churches, so don't try to make her look like she is an extremist. One nation under God is being attacked by anit-religious people like you.
If it be the Christian, Jewish or Muslim religion, makes no difference, we are all believers in God and live by our faith. One person committed that "The worlds greatest problem is dealing with religious conservatives",
Got that wrong. The worlds greatest problem is dealing with those of you who are trying to take God out of our Country. What our country was founded on and what has kept us going. WE are all going to hell in a handbasket if you keep it up. You go Sarah, you got my vote, and keep praying because that is the only thing that is going to save us. B. kirk

praying will not save anyone...a book will not save anyone...a man from the sky will not save anyone, nor the son he sent to earth to die for a bunch of selfish sinners...are we any different today? all christians/jews/muslims/hindus/budhists are still sinners, no one is perfect.

the articles purpose was to expose what she beleives in and how that would affect her decision making for the free world...and now all the conservative christians are up in arms in her defence...why i ask? why? she wants to be in the highest office in the free world than people are going to pry into her life, her former occupations, her religion, and her family...and personally i am atheist (the bible is an old book with alot of stories, i just cant believe in it, ive read old testament and new testament, and well...yea...) and i feel that if she has the power to make decisions about war, foreign policy, or decisions about america itself, i want to know what religion she is turning to for answers...

whats so different about what the christian conservatives are saying about obama? muslim, terrorist, anti american???? come on...hypocrites, democrats and republicans alike... your all lying to yourselves. and for that you will all burn in "hell" along with everyone else on this earth...

while reading this article all I could think about was that the author is simply trying to make something out of nothing! This is ridiculous!!! This article serves no purpose and doesn't help anyone on either side of the aisle. Your points, which I don't really see any, lack any substance and I think suggest that she believes in God. To me, that is what is important. You are trying to make news when there isn't any!
How about in the same article you write another story, so as not to suggest you are biased, about Obama or Biden.
You know what is interesting is that liberals seem to be wasting a tremendous amount of time looking into Palin's history and not talking about the guy that is running for President, John McCain. Maybe it's because he is honest, has integrity, and has a plan that is in the best interest of the United States. Instead, the mainstream media spends their time comparing Palin to Obama. In case anyone needs to be reminded, she is not running for President! He is!

Well, with McCain at 72 years of age it is very possible that she could be our next president if elected...so yeah, as a responsible voter I am going to look at her preety close...spending $150K on clothes when many Americans are losing their homes...her complete lack of experience and the recent report in Alaska that said she used her influence in an inappropriate way. HHHMMMMMM...I'll take my chances with Obama

If you read the bible you would see that Jesus gives us , the believers of christ the ability to lay hands on the sick and they will be healed and the ability to cast out demons. Either you belive the whole Bible is true or you don't. You can't serve two masters at the same time. You can either serve God (Father, Son, & Holy Spirit) or serve Satan. The choice is yours, but remember blastomy against the Holy Spirit is an unforgiven sin.

DEAR HEAVENBOUND 2, 3, OR 4 OR ANY CHRISTAINS ON THIS FORUM:
HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE YOU SAID were unsaved OR PRAYED FOR their fallen state ... IN A PENTICOSTAL SETTING? How many times did YOU AND THE PASTORS say you BELIEVE normal ChristiansHAVE FALLEN AWAY BECAUSE THEY DECIDED TO WORSHIP GOD IN A BAPTIST, OR MAINLINE PROTESTANT CHURCH?
COME ON BE HONEST. I left because the penticostal's started to worship their belief system more than
they worship Jesus. THEY SEEK HIS GIFTS, AND THROW AWAY HIS PEOPLE.

From what I've experienced, Pentecostals verge on heresy, at lest in the classical definition.

        It figures for Palin:

        Secessionist politically.

        Secessionist religiously.

What the hell would she do in office, if she holds so much of the rest of America in such disdain?

How sad that our country has journalist that do not believe in the way that Sarah Palin believes and this suddenly makes them the authority on Biblical knowledge. I would encourage the writers of this article to stick with the knowledge that you know, if there is any, and do not tample with the faith that you do not know.

  • Posted By: Loviejoy @ 10/29/2008 10:37:50 AM

It's funny how John McCain said that he would not make Rev. Wright an issue and now the liberals are attacking Sarah Palin and her church. I know that it was mentioned on FoxNews that some Republican organization was going to start up about Wright even if McCain said he would not. I guess the liberals had to get a jump on them.

  • Posted By: Naples823 @ 10/29/2008 10:36:58 AM

One nation under God, yes. One nation under Jesus, no. Members of the government need to keep their religous ideals to themselves. We have enough different issues dividing American citizens & don't need the specifics to candidates faith thrown in our face as another way of dividing us even farther. As someone who is not a Christian but also not an Atheist I do not want those elected to govern basing their decision on their faith. As an elected official it is your duty to represent your constituents and that means voting based on how your constituents would want you to. Not just voting along party lines or based on what you believe is in line with your religous beliefs. There is a reason why we have separation of church and state.

We have to be careful to put associations on people, because we can not control other peoples actions and behaviors, but we can influence them. The idea of Obama having fundamentalist muslim family ties is not the greatest threat to America. I am not a muslim or supportor of the muslim faith. I am a christian and believe America is best served by a christian believer as president.
However, It is true that America has suffered the most pain and terrorism under miss guided Christianity. For hundreds of years, Slavery was ushered into America by Christians and allowed to exist, while we called this a christian country. Even as recently as up to 1960's civil rights movement and during many of our life time, we watch a country that was segregated and discriminated against people based on color at the same time calling itself a christian nation. Many of the KKK and racist, who committed autrocities in the south and throughout this great land by burning houses and churches and lynchings and hate spewing language were people who called themselves christians and would burn a house or lynch a black man and be seen sitting in church on Sunday thought they were doing the will of god. Thousands of African Americans had suffered at the hands of lynchings and hangings and house burnings and KKK acts of terrorism. Most of the perpetrators thought they were doing what was right for this nation and trying to maintain thier christian values. Even to this day, there are right wing so called christian hate groups out there. We as America are more guilty of acts of terrorism being done to other Americans than the dreadful acts of terrorism that were done so far by muslim fundamentalist. Truth be told. Many Americans have never been involved in a KKK or racist groups and have never participated in any terrorist hate crimes. But a thourough seach of geneology would show that most people have family or relatives that at some point in time had been associated or were invovled in acts against other groups of people in this country. It should not be fair to hold anyone today accountable for the acts of thier great great grandfathers or great great grand mothers or uncles or aunts. However we find it ok to hold these same types of guilty by association to politicians. If we are going to go by the guilty by association game, then we need to open Americas real history book and look at all of the autrocities committed against everyone and see how we are connected to both the good and the ugly of our American past.

Please, please, please get off Sarah Palin. Why are your journalists (big question here if they can be called that) harping on one thing and one thing only throughout this campaign. Last time I checked there are TWO parties and and TWO sides that should be reported. Why is it that you seem to not be able to do any digging or reporting that might bring Obama's beliefs into question? Seems llke bias to me. Don't believe that I real read Newsweek again. Not very accurate.

  • Posted By: max143 @ 10/29/2008 10:35:32 AM

I have read many of the post here and so many of them, from the extreme religious right, have proven what I have believed in all along and that is there is little love and tolerence from them. Only hatefullness and fear preaching. No other opinion or idea is respected by those. If you don't believe in the way they believe, then you're dead wrong and will burn in hell. And yes, if Sarah Palin ever gained any kind of power at all, it would be without equal rights for all in our great country. That kind of thinking would take away constitutional rights and further promote a hate-mongoring, judgemental society. Palin and McCain say they want less government? Only when it fits their beliefs, it seems. But they certainly would have the government jump right in there in restricting equal rights for EVERYONE.
It's not important to me what Sarah Palin's religious beliefs are, but more importantly whay kind of knowledge she has and she has proven time and again she just doesn't get it. She continues to mistate words from other people, twisting her information to her views...ie. Madelin Albright. It just seems the fanatics are all to eager to defend Palin. If a person's religious beliefs are so strong and sure, then why do they continually have to defend themselves? Isn't the basic Christain belief supposed to be one of love and tolerance...forgiving and being non-judgemental? I guess not, as it shows thru on so many of these post.

    The1Atheist,
You are free to be an atheist because you live in a predominantly Christian/Judiac nation. You should thank
God for that, but feel free to thank any one you wish.
I wonder if you would be permitted to express your atheist opinions in a predominantly Muslim country without being imprisoned? I wonder if Christians in Saudi Arabia are able to worship freely; for that matter, I wonder if Christians in China can do so. Wake up and know who your real enemies are.

You are free to be an Athiest because you live in the United States of America. Our Constitution provided freedom of religion and expression. America is what we should be proud of. Articles like this make me ashamed of journalism, not my country.

Teresa001, It's unfortunate that you do not yet understand God's Grace. I would encourage you to seek God's truth about becoming a Christian and your subsequent walk with God. Our "good works" have nothing to do with going to Heaven and therefore your comment about doing enough to make it to heaven is sadly wrong. Christ's gift of salvation is just that, a gift. No one has earned it and no one can. To say that any of us and our works are good enough to get into heaven is to say that God can accept some sin and not other sin. The fact is that God cannot be in the presence of any sin ant that is why we are washed from it when we accept Christ. My contention is that when we accept the gift of salvation, we are new creations in Christ and assured of our place in heaven. As a result of this transformation, we will bear good fruits or as you like reference good works. Doing good enough is not an avenue to salvation, but rather a result, or product of being saved and walking with Christ. I don't mean to preach, but rather share what God has revealed to me through scripture and prayer with others. We also know that the bible is 100% truth and completely accurate. This means that thus far everything in the bible either has come to true or will. No one has been able to deny this, or we would hear about it all the time. Therefore when the bible says certain things will happen in the "end times" I believe it without reservation. The author of this article mocks Mrs. Palin for her beliefs and mocks "crazy end time scenarios" . This is yet another example of a prophecy that is coming true in that Christians will be persecuted for thier beliefs. Our success as a nation has been a sole result of creating system of Government based on Christian principles strait out of the Bible. Not to mean that our government be run by a particular denomination "seperation of church and state" but that our leadership and direction was historically guided by our belief in God. Do you think it is a coincident that the moral degredation of society and our own democratic system is coming unraveled in direct proportion to our denial of God and shoving him out of our schools, court systems, and government branches. No, we should worry about those government leaders in power who do not seek guidance from God rather than ridicule those that do.

Oh so now that we have video on Sarah the Press is suddenly interested in the church of the candidates. Look this crap may scare the NPR crowd but the average American understands that all churches have things that make non church goers uneasy. Next time your sitting in church listen to every word and then try and figure out how the News would interpret it if they were trying to destroy you. You will probably laugh out loud. If you don't attend any church and think it is all sillyness you should know that Barrack Obamas church has stuff worse than this going on like damning America. Oh wait I forget Obama is his own church modeled on Jimmy Swaggert and Jim and Tammy Fae bakers model of The preacher comes before the lord. And the message is what ever will bring in the most money.

Your comments on the religious beliefs of Palin disgusted me. Not about her but about YOU. We as the American public are not as stupid as you think that we are. We know the tricks that you journalists play. Especially when you have an adgneda. It is a known fact that the things that have been spouted from the pulpit of the church that Obama has frequented have been all over the news as well. Your article is obviousely an attempt to down play that in the media. The truth is that it is not Obama's religious beliefs are in question but the political views that are stated in those sermons. It stuns me that you can find an ounce of contempt for the fact that Palin actually prays for our country. I for one pray that the people that are in the offices of our government DO pray for our country. I am not even close to having the same religious beliefs as Palin but I am a Christian that belives that the Bible is the word of God. The Bible undoubtedly contains scriptures about Jesus himself casting out evil spirits. God is an unchanging God. If there were evil spirits back in Biblical times, then I am certain that they exist today. I am not saying that I agree with the way that her church goes about dealing with it or if they are even qualified TO deal with it, but that is none of my business and it's not yours either. The last time I checked we lived in a country that we were free to believe how, where, and what we may!

  • Posted By: cannonbll @ 10/29/2008 10:32:45 AM

What's wrong with this? You've got to be kidding me. She fell just short of calling the current Iraq war a religious war .... having state that the war is a mission from god. The last thing we want to incite in the middle east is just that. Of course radical muslim groups already view it that way, but we don't need leaders of this country acknowledging that radical view point and throwing more fuel on a delicate state of affairs. There is a seperation of church and state in this country for good reason and our leaders have to acknowledge that top to bottom in any kind of diplomacy that takes place. Sarah Palin the pipeline in your state is not the will of god, the Iraq war is not the will of god. Religion is a personal thing and it needs to stay out of government .... lest we have a president that moronically escalates the wars in the middle east to a full blown Jihad.

With that said, I am sure you still believe in demons, angels, etc. Whether you have seen it or not, I am sure you are aware of the spiritual realm that exists. A lot of your Christian brothers and sisters deal with it everyday, especially evangelists and missionaries who go into places were a lot of pagan religions are the norm.

    • Posted By: ownflavor @ 10/29/2008 10:29:13 AM

You will never see a witch doctor at a service if you think they have a certain looks. As surely as God says it is possible to entertain an angel and not know it, you can just as well entertain the sweet little old lady of nice old man who practices witchcraft behind the scenes. Do they read the Bible in your church? Witchcraft is there and is real. Ask Saul!

DEFINITION OF OBAMA: ****Supports baby murder!!!!****

    • Posted By: ghartley68 @ 10/29/2008 9:09:18 AM

I haven't seen it written or heard it said by Obama that he is a Christian. There is a difference between being a Christian and believing in God. Even Muslims believe in God. It keeps being said that Obama is a Christian. I have not heard him profess his belief in Jesus Christ as the risen Son of God. What I have seen is his interview with George Stephenopolis (sp?) where he talks about his Muslim faith and had to be corrected. A mis-statement? I don't think so. Let him proclaim then I might believe. Otherwise, he is posturing and I will never believe he is a Christian. Just because he attended a so-called Christian church also does not make him a Christian. Only a profession of faith and an acceptance of Jesus Christ as your savior makes you a Christian. Otherwise, you are a non-believer.

    • Posted By: LisaS_7 @ 10/29/2008 9:03:08 AM

ummm.... Christianity isnt filled with hate for one thing. And I posted a youtube video link with him and Allan Keyes. Allan Keyes "preached" it and Obam said the first thing he would ask Jesus was not about politics but if he was going up or down. If you are a Christian you don't doubt your direction for one thing. The church he attended leaves a lot of doubts too.

Barack Obama is only a Christian and believes in God when it is politically correct to do so.

Only the Demovrats spew hate. they hate America, they hate our serviceman fighting in a war, they hate all who disagree with them, etc. None of what Newsweek or the other left wing media outlets is printing about Obama is the real truth. They choose to give you half truths or no truth at all about him. They chose sides and are giving Obama and the dems a free pass to the white house, without having to answer seriuos questions about his past. They let him (and so do they) blow the questions off as a campaign distraction. People that will vote for Obama have all been had by the media that refuses to give you the real facts and has guided you to vote for a radical thinking do nothing Senator from Illinois that has no record of doing any of what he is saying. Also, Obama is the one that went to a church that preaced hate for 20 years. . He listened to :Gog Damn America" and other hate and hoplessnes speeches for 20 years, They won't print that, will they.

    • Posted By: knoxm415 @ 10/29/2008 10:32:28 AM

Mostly all church pastors tape their sermons. So, the question remains...have you or anyone else seen the last 20 years of Rev Wright's sermons that would support your theory that this is what he preaches "all" the time? I think not! If this was the case, someone would have definitely seized those tapes and proved it by now. Also, its amazing how we weigh in and say bad things when someone like Obama's "past" minister makes an inappropiate comment in a 3 minute speech (yes 3 minutes) and we can "theoretically" prove "hate" lives in their hearts when it comes to America and white people, BUT, whites can go all their lives (yes ALL THEIR LIVES) listening to "hateful" remarks from their family and peers about blacks and other races and this not be shamed - Oh I forgot, that's normal huh! Do you truly want me to believe that John (McCain), Sarah (Palin), Bush nor Biden (so that you don't think its a Democratic view)...not to mention yourself, have NEVER heard or made racist comments about blacks in all the years you all have been living? PLEASE! GIVE ME A BREAK...2 wrongs don't make a right, but don't get upset when you "reap what you sow"...now THAT'S from the good Book I call "The Holy Bible". "Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you". And that, my dear, goes for EVERYONE...
I am a middle-age American and I approve this message.
