What's wrong with this? You've got to be kidding me. She fell just short of calling the current Iraq war a religious war .... having state that the war is a mission from god. The last thing we want to incite in the middle east is just that. Of course radical muslim groups already view it that way, but we don't need leaders of this country acknowledging that radical view point and throwing more fuel on a delicate state of affairs. There is a seperation of church and state in this country for good reason and our leaders have to acknowledge that top to bottom in any kind of diplomacy that takes place. Sarah Palin the pipeline in your state is not the will of god, the Iraq war is not the will of god. Religion is a personal thing and it needs to stay out of government .... lest we have a president that moronically escalates the wars in the middle east to a full blown Jihad.

This election will go down in history as the most journalistic corrupt election in American History. I am saying this as a person voting for Obama. You would not dare transpose the name Palin for Obama in this article or headline. You would not dare question the rituals or belief system of any Jewish or Muslim Politician. Journalist today should be ashamed of themselves. What is ironic is that if all you liberal journalist would have been fair and even to both candidates, Obama would actually be more ahead in the polls. Don't you the journalist realize that most normal intelligent people can see right through your transparent bias. Why do you think this is still a large percentage of the American Public who do not trust Obama? They don't trust the media. You should be embarrassed., from an Obama supporter

The large percentage of the public that don't trust Obama don't blame the media for not trusting him. It's his record. They don't trust him because he's the most liberal Senator in America, because he voted "present" over a hundred times when he elected to make decisions for the people of Illinois and because he's taken in almost as much money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as Chris Dodd (over a 9 year period) during his 143 days as a Senator.

Any one who is a christian, a born again christian, knows that we get our authority from Jesus Christ, hence the name christian. Jesus himself devoted a great part of his ministry to casting out demons, as did the disciples read the bible for yourself and don't castigate what you clearly do not understand. Read the bible - Matt 10 : veerse 7&8 Jesus said to his disciples go - "preach ...... heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead cast out devils" Matt 12 - jesus said if I cast out devils by the spirit of God then the kingdom of God is come unto to you. Mark 16 verse 15 - 18 Go into all the world and preach the gospel, he that believeth and is baptised shall be saved ....and these signs shall follow them that beleive in my name shall they cast out devils .............they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. The preceeding is just a a mall part of Jesus' ministry with respect to the castin out of evil spirits. This debate in this forum is like discussing a something about which you know nothing and wieghing with an opinion that sounds correct according to some philosophy. before you judge Sarah palin, understand the bible and the Ministry of Jesus christ not from man's perspective but from the bible.

    • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/29/2008 10:31:35 AM

The Bible was written over hundreds of years, and the Gospels themselves were largely written well after Jesus died, i.e. hearsay and half-truth. If you want a literal reading of the Bible to get candidate motivation, especially re: Christ's teachings, then Obama has Palin licked on charity and compassion, at least in speech.

I love this piece of liberal anti-Christian trash. Go Sarah. There is nothing in your belief system that is not Biblically based as it should be. That includes witches and end time prophecy. Don't bow, bend, or burn. Stand firm in your faith, Sarah. We are praying for you.

She is a wacko! i grew up in that sect and believe me, it is a scary, scary group of people.

    • Posted By: betsker @ 10/29/2008 10:31:03 AM

I truly regret that you had such a bad experience. Just like anything, there will always be groups of people who distort, harm and even deceive. The Bible is clear on that. I attend and am involved in an Assembly of God church that is great! It of course has it's issues, it's made up of falible humans, but overall we see God healing the lives of hurt and broken people. I hope that you haven't given up on God, just the church that scared you.

When political writers research sermons and attend worship services to find a story for their agendas, our first amendment right to freedom of worship is attacked. This is the most one-sided piece of blatant exploitation have read i my 58 years. I have a problem believing that NEWSWEEK allowed this published under their banner.

  • Posted By: TruthBTold2all @ 10/29/2008 9:05:40 AM

This story is a sick and twisted attempt by non-believers to make a mockery of God and politicians religious beliefs. I do not support McCain or Palin, but as a Christian, I know that there are Bible believing Christians who are both democrate and republican. No one party has a lock on God. I do no support McCain or Palin as president or support most of thier views. I do support and believe that she has the right to her religious expression and should held against her. I beieve Obama is a Christian also. He may have family of a different persuasion in other countries, but I believe he is as good fearing Bible believing as Sara or McCain. This idea of witchcraft is nothing new. Witchcraft is all about evil manipulation. Call it what you want, demonic, satanic control of other peoples minds and souls. Witchcraft happens everyday in America. Many people practice it without even knowing what they are doing according to the Bible is a form a witchcraft. I do not mean wearing black or hats and broom sticks. Most witchcraft has nothing to do with this image of witchcraft. It has everything to do with allowing the devil to take the place of God in our dealings with other people and allowing the devil to manipulate our minds to in turn be used for wrong doing to manipulate others. We have seen witchcraft being used by both republicans and democrates. Because a lie is a lie and both parties are guilty of telling lies and streaching the truth in order to win the vote. The problem becomes when we as Christians engage in this type of divisive tactics and hate mongering that we have choosen to stray from the will of God in how we conduct our selves as Christians. This is also an example of how witchcraft comes into those of us who claim to be Christians. That's why we need pray and God's angels to protect and keep us from these evil spirits and to keep our hearts and minds following Gods will.

I will give you credit for one thing.....you are as transparent as glass in your bias views and reporting. Makes for good entertainment. The article also shows a good contrast between Obama and Palin. One belonging to a church that actually speaks of God and Jesus Christ, the other belonging to a church that rants, raves and preaches of damning America to hell.

    • Posted By: 4carol @ 10/29/2008 10:30:13 AM

Just cannot understand why you feel the need to rant and rave regarding this when I guess it's all o.k. with you that the AIP says the same thing and wants to secede from America; and Ms. Palin says"keep up the good work". What's good for the goose is good for the gander!!! Touche'

Go SARAH, it is about time that a politician stands on her relationship with Christ to help her make decisions. That she asks for prayer in her decisions that affect so many is the best possible thing she could do. If more of our politicians were of the same mind and remembered we are "one nation under God" then maybe we could get the political junk out of the way and do what is best for our country. We, as Christians are called to pray for the rulers of our land, and that is what we should all be joining Sarah Palin in doing! You go girl! You've my vote!

Lisa and Andrew, if you know nothing about Africa, there is a lot of witchcraft there. I know as I grew up there. Demons were cast out in the Bible, too. Just because the African pastor prayed for her doesn't mean that she was a witch or believes in it!!! He is praying that God will protect her completely. However there are those who do practice and study witchcraft even here in the states.

I am appalled at this article. We know NOTHING about Barack Obama's religious beliefs. Other than he's denounced his former preacher. I am not convinced that he believes that God will bring about change. He has goten like his twisted followers and seems to think that he can bring about Change alone without divine intervention.

  • Posted By: forhams @ 10/29/2008 10:29:38 AM

What are Barak Hussein Obama's religous beliefs? If he is a Christian then he has the exact same beliefs as Sarah Palin. Why don't you investigate Barak's support and membership in the Rev Jeramiah Wright congregation? He went there for over twenty years and claims he is not as rascist and anti-American as the good Rev. Wright!! Of course he and Michelle don't agree with him or Ayers or Al Monsoor!! Too many questions to support this marxist racist anti-American who refuses to pledge allegiance to this country or face the flag when the anthem is played!! He recently said he and Michelle attended flag burnings and the flag offends so many people around the world he just cannot choose sides!! How laughable is that? He wants to run a country but not support it's values of over two hundred years!!! Please run him out of office of any kind!!!!!

What a load of rubbish! And you call yourselves reporters? It's pretty obvious from reading this article that the writers themselves probably are not christians, nor do they know anything about christianity. Newsweek is obviously out of touch with what mainstream America believes. No wonder their magazine is selling so poorly.
So what if Sarah Palen is a christian? That doesn't disqualify her or anyone from running for office. The problem we have today is there aren't enough people with standards and convictions in our public arena. I, for one, welcome Sarah Palen and the breath of fresh air she brings. We could us more people like her who are not afraid to have convictions and be courageous enough to stand for them.

It is amazing that anyone in America would attack anyone for their religion. The constituion guarantees every American the liberty to worship freely. We need to uphold the constitution and let Palin worship God and leave her alone. But it is funny that Mr. McCain attacked Mr. Romney for his religion while urging people to leave Sarah alone? Double standard here.

There is nothing wrong with asking God to protect you from all forms of witchcraft.
Its obvious that many people don't understand what Christians refer to as "all forms of witchcraft". It can mean drug use, idolatry, sorcery, deceptions, seductions, etc. "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance."-Psalm 33:12

It never ceases to amaze me how one political candidate can be dragged through the mud (Obama), yet another can get off without being challenged. I don't necessarily think religion and politics mix, but if you're going to be fair, then you need to probe Palin just as you did Obama. Certain aspects of her life have been off limits and partially because Obama has more class than that. He said her beliefs are personal & shouldn't be challenged (meaning no one should have to go through what he went through). Obama has been called a Muslim and a terrorist (by Palin), yet Obama continues to take the high road. If Obama's daughter were an unwed pregnant teen, those against him would be saying he & his wife were horrible parents contributing to the moral decay of America, yet Palin.....nothing. It's so ridiculously unbalanced!

    • Posted By: MeLizzard2 @ 10/29/2008 10:08:15 AM

Obama dragged through the mud?!?!?! He's been given a pass on every major issue, and if a benign policy question is asked, he plays the race card. Yeah, that sounds pretty muddy to me. Every day, there's some nonstarter B.S. claim in the headlines to defame Palin orMcCain, and three days later, said claim is always debunked. But the thoughts are already out there, clouding the judgement of careless voters.

You forget how vehement the opposition to Rev. Wright was. And tonyb raises a valid point about the media not addressing the imbanlance in white vs. black expectations regarding family planning. If the baby tables were turned, this election would already be over for Obama.

???Pray away the gay??? ??? her church says today. Alaska???s a ???refuge state.???
When Judgment comes, her raptured chums throng Nome???s pearly gate.

I was raised pentacostal. Seeing this makes me want to vote for McCain/Palin. Everyone is entitled to believe as they wish, however; you can't believe in heven yet think there is no hell. This is becoming the norm as far as beliefs go. I've seen many that don't believe in satan, demons, witches, that claim there loved one is in heven when they pass on. I'm glad that it gives them comfort when they need it most. But lets be honest, either you believe in it all or you don't.

What if heaven is simply a transcendent state we all achieve upon death? Why does there have to be a hell, if heaven is not pure good to hell's pure evil? The world isn't black and white, so why does the afterlife have to be? After all, Hell is a medieval construct, a product of a dark and dangerous time of people living in constant fear and true uncertainty... wait... like America under the GOP administration!!! No wonder you found God!!!

Is there witch craft? Is there priest hood? You may as well ask if there really is Lucifer and Jesus Christ. Sigh.. we ain't talking about the easter bunny or santa claus here. Study the story of Moses to understand the difference between witchcraft and the priesthood. There are more modern examples, but let's not get ahead of our selves......

For years I subscribed to Newsweek. Gradually, the magazine lost all balance, as the Zakarias and Alters started to outnumber the WIlls by a huge margin. Finally, a particular whining hit piece by Jonathan Alter was the tipping point, and I cancelled my subscription. Over the years, I've occasionally come back to see if anything had changed. As your circulation continues to drop like a rock in water, you continue to hit new lows. This article is the lowest of them all. There are important issues just dying to be investigated. And THIS pathetic hit piece is your excuse for headline news. Shame.
