I believe that these people want to hasten the "end times". They get into positions of power and do things to make this happen. Look at Iraq for example. We invaded it, Al Quaida followed, and the Middle East became inflamed. Iran calls Isreal a "stinking Corpse", and we condemn, but we also refuse to talk to them, making them hate us and Isreal that much more. It also put Isreal in a difficult position. If they attack Iran, Isreal risks distruction. The U.S. won't stand for that (and rightly so) so we will attack Iran. Countries will take sides and the Armageddon thats been so expected will come to pass. All because we have people in the White House, and people that want to get into the White House with views like that of Gov. Palin and her kind. Remember, Religion has caused more death and destruction than anything else. Having faith is fine, but when that faith becomes a doctrine, well thats where we must draw the line.. this is not an isolated thing. These evangelicals want creationism taught in our schools, and wish to put faith into every fabric of our lives. There is separation of Church and State for a reason. Our founding fathers didnot wish to incorporate God into Government. Look at Jefferson, Adams, Washington, and Thomas Moore. In God we trust did not come into being until the 19th century, so please don't give me that argument either.
These are serious times, and we need serious people. I don't want someone that believes in a talking bush or snake, or that the earth is 6000 years old, or that the end times are near, legislating to me or my family whats right and wrong. We will not become a Christian findamentalist country! We will not give up liberty and our rights for some arcan notion of a guy on a throne on a cloud. We need to wake up, and move forward into reality, not rely on a 4000 year old book of stories to guid us into the world of promise that awaits us.

First of all, your argument that In God We Trust on our money is the moment that defined this nation's foundation in Christianity is misinformed. Clearly, reference to our Creator was evident in our founding document, the Declaration of Independence, written predominately by Thomas Jefferson, whom you cited. And contrary to modern day interpretation, the doctrine of separation of church and state was intended to keep government out of peoples religious lives, not the contrary. It's primary purpose was to avoid the establishment of a religious state, dictating the religion of its citizens, and nowhere in the world do citizens enjoy more religious freedom than here in America. But to suggest that our leaders should be required to check their faith at the door is ridiculous and is not consistent with our nation's history and would be a violation of the very same doctrine. While you appear to feel enlightened mocking Christianity, you may note that the greatest minds throughout history have believed in God, including Gallileo, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein and all of the statesman you mentioned. As for meeting with the Iranians, I find a great deal of irony in the fact that people speak of Christians as delusional and yet seem to believe that idea of all of the countries of the world coming together for some sort of kumbaya moment where we hold hands and talk it all out. Meeting on a presidential level with world leaders whose ideologies are INSANE and inlude eradication of entire races gives those ideologies a legitimacy they do not deserve. Let me ask. If someone moved in down the street and began telling everyone in the neighborhood that he was going to kill you and your whole family, would you expect your neighbors to have him over for a barbecue so they could talk out his bad behavior? The logic is that simple.

"Remember, Religion has caused more death and destruction than anything else." ??? You have got to be kidding me! I don't know if you're incredibly bigoted, incredibly misinformed or, sadly, incredibly stupid. There have been close to 100 million people killed in wars and genocide in the 20th century alone by the likes of Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo, Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il, Menghistu, Idi Amin, etc.. None of these dictators were motivated by religion; in fact, most if not all were atheists. Please do yourself and us all a favor by educating yourself before you make such ridiculous statements.

You (the authors) should be ashamed of yourselves. How intolerant can you be? Isn't freedom of religion one of our fundamental principles? And then you are biased! I don't see a link to your article about Biden's religion or articles by you on Obama's fruitcake former pastor and his anti-American rhetoric. You also show a lack of understanding of the church processes when you do thinks like tying to link who was preaching when her baby was dedicated to criticize her. However, I must thank you - Palin's background just makes me want to vote for her now as Vice President and later as President.

I do not believe anyone can bring themselves to this level of indecency. Even though it is obvious that you are not Christian and you are blindly following the lost.. I will pray that your efforts are thwarted by God. and that both of you come to know the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Where is the balance? It figures that with polls tightening in the race to see if Obama really can buy the election with Oprah's money, that media would stop at nothing to cast doubts of any kind on the only ticket that purely represents honesty and dignity and a demonstrated commitment to serve ALL the people of the United States. From the moment McCain and Palin began serving in any public office or service be it military or legislative, they have put aside greed and pride, to put their fellow Americans first. Their examples of leadership from beginning to present, are solid on all fronts, not waivering or suspect like the past 8 years of Mr. Obama. I cringe after listening to just one of Jeremiah Wrights sermons, how could he listen to 20 years of them? I cringe after listening to the September 6, 2001 Chicago Public Radio Odyssey program in its entirety, hearing Mr. O dismiss the perpetual significance of our forefathers U.S. Constitution, and how he regrets that the Supreme Court did nothing to repay America's financial debt to liberated slaves. The O in Obama should stand for Objectionable agenda, objectionable associations with radical terrorists and Marxist professors, objectionable campaign practices, and objectionable pride in self rather than in country and its people! I know that the honorable Senator McCain vowed not to allow Obama's religious views or even his association of 20 years in a radical hate filled ministry, to be basis for any campaign strategy. And I know that John McCain is a man of his word. However - when withholding this information and truths serves to endanger the lives and moral fiber and the preservation of our United States Constitution, then that pledge needs to be overridden and the trumpets sounded! McCain, please embrace the entire nation's Godly people of every color and race, and warn them what will happen in our Supreme Court and to our great freedoms through the Constitution if the Objectionable Mr. O is elected.

God is a loving God, but he is also a just, and Holy God. Just like a parent diciplines children out of love God does the same for us. God wants us to be givers by choice not by law. If you are forced to give someone food, clothing, or money then is it really out of kindness? Jesus teaches to love one another but he also preaches truth . When Jesus told the man to sell all he had and to pick up his cross and follow him , Jesus knew the man loved his riches more than God thats why the man was very sad. Jesu is not a socialist, he is Holy, Holy, Holy....

OK! Now an indepth report on Sen. Barack Obama and his beliefs under the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and redical Black Liberation Theology. Come on, 20 years in the same church and he did not know what was being taught? God ### America! the US of KKKA! Hatred of America and the American way? How about a three pager on that? What about Joe Biden? Does he go to church? What are his beliefs? This is nothing but unethical and biased journalism.

Even committed Republicans who support McCain have to ask themselves if they really would take the risk of putting our country into Palin's hands. Sure, being VP doesn't necessarily take a lot of skills, but being President requires great intelligence and a clear-eyed world view, one untainted by religious fanaticism. Look at the mess we got with the under-qualified Dubya, and even he seems smarter and less fanatical than Palin. McCain is 72 years old, with high cholesterol and high blood pressure; his father and grandfather each died of heart attacks at age 72. McCain's Vice President HAS to be ready to lead. And by lead, I am not referring to a full speed charge into Armageddon.

For those of you who don't know, Palin belongs to a fundamentalist church that believes the end of the world is near: that war, financial distress and famine will kill off the sinful non-believers, and that when this holocaust occurs all good Christians will be taking refuge in Alaska. Furthermore, her church conducts witch hunts -- they actually use prayer to locate "witches" in their community, then publicly brand them as witches, and hold them responsible for everything that goes wrong in town. (Honestly, I think the long winters must be getting to their minds.) You can go on YouTube and watch videos of Palin participating during sermons like this. She stands on the altar facing the members. The congregation stands with outstretched hands, trancelike, speaking in tounges while the priest prays to "keep Sarah safe from all forms of witchcraft."

Could you REALLY feel comfortable knowing that a woman who holds these beliefs would have the power to declare war and deploy nuclear missiles?

    • Posted By: BunchofChemies @ 10/29/2008 1:47:46 AM

Pentecostal Christianity is a recent off-shoot of only about 100 years duration, but has spread fast, especially in poorly educated third world countries. Sarah Palin is the first candidate for national office to hold these beliefs, which most people see as very odd for the modern era, if they even understand them. She would see no reason to support science, choice, or even civil liberties with such beliefs. If she believed that God was telling her to do something, which is a big part of this highly personal religiosity, then she'd simply do it. Scary.

      • Posted By: lottapaws @ 10/29/2008 4:10:09 AM

Nins, it would behoove you to research the beliefs of our Founding Fathers and those who came over on the Mayflower, Nina, and Santa Maria.

As for age, McCain's mother is still alive, and she is sharp as a tack! She is active, and puts many to shame who are half her age! I have an aunt who is 90 and plays 18 holes of golf 3 times every week! My neighbor is 91 and as spry as most 50 year olds! You might want to check Biden's health, however. You could try to check Obama's health records, but he is very tight fisted about ALL his records, those from when he held a state office, those from his college days at both Columbia and Harvard, and, well, he won't even grant interviews with those who don't ask questions he likes! And heaven help anyone who dares question him! If you do, be ready to have your life scrutinized under a microscope and then plastered on front pages across the country! If this is how Obama plans to reach out "cross party lines" to mend the country, I can do without his dictatorial rule!

Yes, I much rather have someone who sits in church while the congregation prays over her to keep her safe than someone who sits in church while hearing rants against this country and "whitey".

You really need to dig deeper into this woman's past before you start spouting off. HER HUSBAND IS A SECCESSIONIST. SHE SUPPORTS THIS. Do you consider this being American?

          • Posted By: Amusedone @ 10/29/2008 10:16:59 AM

You must have been sleeping during American History - Otherwise you would know -
            1. Our Founding Fathers were Deist that believed in the theories of enlightenment. Many were Unitarians, Episcopalians and Presbyterians - not even close to fundamentalism even in those early days.
            2. The Mayflower landed at Plymouth in New England. There were Puritans which latter became the Congregationalists. Today they are the United Church of Christ - the nomination that Barack Obama belonged to and are considered Liberal Humanist.
            3. The Nina and the Santa Maria landed in Isla de Espanola - known today as Cuba. Columbus really did not have much to do with the founding of the United States - as much as the growth of Empiral Spain. Putting Columbus together with the development and creation of the United States sound Palinisque.
            4. Though we would to think that how long our Parents live may reflect will or ill upon our life expectancy; the reality is that much of how we live - diet, exercise, life style has a greater impact. So, blessing on Mrs. McCain, but her son suffers with a serious case of skin cancer, time as a POW and the injuries he received are a better indication of his life expectancy than Mom.

a little clarification, Einstein did not believe in a theological god. Thomas Jefferson also had serious problems with Christianity, which is why he wrote "The Jefferson Bible." Galileo was persecuted by the Church for his views and it took hundreds of years for the Church to express regret. It should also be noted that many of the founding fathers were not Christians, some were atheists or Deists. The notion of America as a "Christian nation" is simply absurd.

    • Posted By: MeLizzard2 @ 10/29/2008 10:16:38 AM

This nation was founded by God-fearing people. Our documents are full of references to God, and our national monuments are adorned with references to and praises to God. We have, however, as a nation, drifted so far from God's principles that we've caused ourselves much grief.

  • Posted By: forhams @ 10/29/2008 10:16:06 AM

What are Barack Hussein Obama's religous beliefs? Where are your questions of his judment for sitting in Rev. Jeremiah Wright's congregation for over 20 years? Anyone who would continue to go to his church is absolutely a racist and anti- American of the first order. Have you written an article about that? After all he is running for President not Sarah Palin!!!
And by the way, over 85% of the citizens of the United States are Chritian!!!

"...the invoking of Jesus and witches in the same sentence???what the heck is going on?"

Whats wrong with this? There is nothing wrong with asking God to protect you from all forms of witchcraft.
Its obvious that many people don't understand what Christians refer to as "all forms of witchcraft".

Does anyone know if Newsweek has done a similar "in depth" story of Senator Obama's religious beliefs and what has shaped them? No mention of Sarah Palin denouncing her former Pastor as Senator Obama did his, after attending Rev. Wright's church for 20 years.

  • Posted By: eyeguy33 @ 10/29/2008 10:15:03 AM

The average American has said for years that they are tired of "old" Washington and the corruption etc. Everybody wants change and to be represented in Washington by people who are like us and share our interests, values, struggles, beliefs. Along comes comes Sarah Palin and people cry that she is not qualified. She is the most popular governor in the United States and came from plus sticks to humble beginnings. Obama/Biden are deemed "qualified" because they are career politicians? That is exactly what we do not need. Change is needed in this country, but be careful about the change you vote for.

  • Posted By: kluje @ 10/29/2008 10:11:29 AM

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Gov. Palin belonging to a Pentecostal Church. They are the most loving and caring people on the face of the earth. It would only help our country to have more people like her involved, not hurt it. As to Senator Obama's religious affiliation, the difference between this clip and the clip of Senator Obama's Pastor is that his Pastor blasted this country vehemently, the ministers in this piece did not.

    • Posted By: benkrapf @ 10/29/2008 10:15:01 AM

We do not need a religious extremist. Sarah Palin has spoken repeatedly about a divine mandate for war. Obama has not. Palin is much closer to a terrorist's motivation. Obama is not.

  • Posted By: truthismarchingon @ 10/29/2008 10:14:57 AM

These are Christians, this is called prayer. You make it seem like some ceremony so foreign to you. This is something our forefathers did regularly, and something millions of Americans are doing right now, knowing that a citizen, a country, a ruler (govenor or president) are carried in the hands of God, His will be done as " He stands beside us, and guides us, through the night with a light from above." I recall Congress , Democrats and Republicans alike, singing these words together after 9-11. Is this what it takes for us to recognize as Sarah Palin does that we need God's blessing?

  • Posted By: msleesblues @ 10/29/2008 9:05:15 AM

Okay, she's a Christian who believes in "Abstinence" only. I don't seem to sound disrespectful or judgemental, but that policy obviously didn't work for her 17 year old daughter or her new fiance who it seems has been pressured into marrying the girl. If they are in love, so be it. However, if abstinence only worked, Gov. Palin's daughter wouldn't be pregnant, would she?

    • Posted By: KasiaAnna @ 10/29/2008 10:14:34 AM

However, if abstinence only worked, Gov. Palin's daughter wouldn't be pregnant, would she?
And if teaching birth control to kids worked, we wouldn't have anyone getting pregnant using birth control, would we? Your logic is extremely flawed. You can't argue for or against a method based on anecdotal evidence or by one case. BTW, they teach sex ed in the Wasilla public schools, so you can't say that she had an abstinence only education. Why is it that the left thinks kids can be taught not to use tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs, but they can't be taught to control their sexual urges?

    • Posted By: Singer82 @ 10/29/2008 9:24:24 AM

Seriously....are you still bringing her daughter into 'this??? That's pretty low. She can't be with her daughter 24/7 and control her actions. I think she is showing what a great mother she is by being supportive of her daughter even when she makes mistakes. You should get some new material.

    • Posted By: Deb79 @ 10/29/2008 9:18:33 AM

You must not be a parent. Just because I believe something is good or correct doesn't mean my children will agree. How many parents preach safe driving or no drinking only to have their kids wreck the car or get drunk at a friends party. Same thing.

  • Posted By: Maria1986 @ 10/29/2008 10:14:08 AM

Oh my gosh that pastor did not invoke witches. His very words were "Every form of witchcraft is what you REBUKE"! Way to twist, what a good headline he made out of it huh? If Sarah Palin did switch churches to be politically comfortable, thats a shame. Christians are not ones who should be fleeing from persecution, if that was the case.

  • Posted By: nhgauget @ 10/29/2008 10:13:54 AM

Why don't you do a 3 page fiasco about Obama's "former" lol, church and his affiliation with the wonderful Reverand Wright. Oh thats right , he is the "Messiah" and we can't ask those questions. You people are so pathetic, it's deplorable. If he gets in office, I hope the media is the first to suffer !

  • Posted By: Pleadthe1st @ 10/29/2008 10:13:46 AM

As a Christian, this post is very offensive. Right winged nut??? Ok...I think you would have to be an atheist or just completely blind to say that you dont agree with good/evil, God and the devil, angels and demons, etc. Whether or not Palin is meant to be Vice President or not, attacking her faith to seek to show her in a negative light is not gonna get you anywhere. You need to learn to respect people of faith, Pentecostals, baptists, methodists, etc. Everything the ministers mentioned spoke of is written in the Bible-- its not some new concept, some new age religion. Nor is it ancient and obsolete.
