And what does Obama REALLY believe, deep within his heart? Is he for family values, the trdiational values of our founding-fathers? Quote-unquote, "LA Times Refuses to Release Tape of Obama Praising Controversial Activist Video of farewell party for alleged PLO worker shows Obama toasting 'friend and dinner companion' with questionable past." Who is Khalidi, an extremist who stimulates Obama's thinking??

  • Posted By: cmcdee1 @ 10/29/2008 9:46:08 AM

The religious views that both of Palin's churches have are not "extreme". Rick Warren's church (and many of the other "mega-churches" have the same views. Both TBN & CBN founders have the same religious views. Several Christian TV networks have the same "world view". To refer to pentecostal views as being a minority and extreme reflects either a personal prejudice or a lack of real facts about which you are talking. The Charismatic type churches are the fastest growing church groups in the country and are a big factor in the reduction in membership of the so called "traditional" churches.

A person is a fool if they do not believe in withces or warlocks. Yeah, just because you do not understand it or been around it does not mean they do not exist. I have had personal experiences with those situations. ANd there is truth in end t6ime scenarios - it is easy to say they do not exist and then you do not have to respond to those issues. I would rather have a radical Christian than a muslim leading our nation (Christian nation). I would be cautious about touching her and her faith as that may come back to bite you.

Ae you kidding me with this articly. Why arent you blasting the LA Time for failure to release the video of Obama at a party in 2003 for a well documented anti-semite ad PLO mouthpiece. That video goes to Obama's religion as it echo's the views of Jerimiah Wright, Obama's pastor or over 20 years! This piece wreaks of bias and conjecture with little to no journalistic integrity.

I really can't understand why if all these religious people are so against Newsweek, there's so many responses to this article. People need to wake up to these uder right wing evangelicals. Watch the Documentary "Jesus Camp". See how children's minds are warped and twisted into believing that God will actually speak with you, help you in your daily life, and how they will be "soldiers for God". Watch as they wryth on the floor talking gibberish, while adults look on and wave their hands in the air. Yeah, this is what they don't want you to see. Like all extremists of every faith, they want you to only see what they see as the "good parts" of their faith. They are no better than Islamic Fundamentalists! They haven't blown anything up yet ( although Oklahoma City might be a example- not sure), these people are taught to do whatever it takes to push their views forward. They put the politicians and the "respectible people" out front on talk shows and news programs, while teaching their children in evangelical "madrassas" how to hate all that don't believe in their faith, and how the "Army of God" will take over the world.

Inflammatory enough? Yeah, well thats what extreme faith does to people, and thats why all those people that think belief in Jesus will save you while preaching hatred and bigotry. Yes, Jesus would be so proud!

maybe every one would be happier if she was worshiping satan in the video instead wearing the black cloak around a bunch of black candles with someone being ready on a slab ready to be sacrificed, I don't know tell me Reporter who wrote this article? tell me America what is it that you want instead which in someones private life is none of your business America. Please, do not talk about something acting that you know everything when you know nothing about the bible and its history. thats what we humans do we take something so simplistic and make near impossible to achieve to make us feel better about our selves and more important instead of what really matters! peoples choice is their free will to make the choices that we make and we must respect that but doesn't mean I have to like it or you. people are so tied up with oppinions and are affraid to say anything? thats racists, sexiest, offends me because of my religion or what ever it is, while we ALL ARE LOOSING OUR LIBERTIES HERE IN AMERICA!!!! WAKE UP PEOPLE!! Stop trying to control people and telling them what to do! IT IS NONE OF OUR BUSINESS unless illegal or brought into the situation.

I thought this article was on the same level as those that portray Obama as a Muslim.

  • Posted By: Christian and Proud @ 10/29/2008 9:44:27 AM

Why do people continue to write about things they know nothing about? One of the major mistakes of this article is the stratement that born-again Christians believe God is punishing and going to punish Israel. That is so far from the truth! We believe that God restored Israel for His glory and that in the End Isral will recognize Jesus as their Messiah. And the Messiah will come back to conquer all those who dared to rise up against Israel the apple of God's Eye.We are Israel's staunches supporters! God Bless Israel!
    God Bless Sarah Palin!

I have been very concerned since I first saw the video. There is no place for "pastors" who hunt witches and who terrorize and threaten innocent women because they think they're satanic or evil. That Sarah Palin would even consider being a long-time member of such a church is frightening and says a lot. Add in her husband's membership in an Alaskan secessionist movement whose leader (Vogler) spoke of nothing but hatred for the United States of America, and Sarah Palin's "wishing you well" in your endeavors speech given to that secessionis group last summer, and it should worry all of us. Who is Sarah Palin really? And who is her husband?

  • Posted By: gigilarue @ 10/29/2008 9:43:09 AM

"Video clips have circulated online that show Palin endorsing the Iraq war as a "task from God," and praying for the proposed Alaska pipeline" ....

Does she not pray for other countries or the state of the world?

Has history not shown us again and again that faith and religion have been used to quietly promote political interest?

  • Posted By: scottg74 @ 10/29/2008 9:43:06 AM

Maybe you guys have done this, but how about an identical Obama article about the church he attended with Rev. Wright and what Black Liberation Theology stands for. That is no different than listing the beliefs of Pentecostals. I think people may be a bit surprised when they read about the core belief of a black messiah coming to over throw the ruling powers of his time, just like Jesus came to defeat the Romans. That of course does not mean Obama believes all that, but it is still a fact that he attended a church where this is the main belief just as Palin attended her church.

  • Posted By: scaredforthenation @ 10/29/2008 8:20:06 AM

This lady is a FREAK for even associating with this "religion" and I do use that term loosly.. it's more like brain washing.. and trust me.. We DO NOT WANT anyone with Pentecostal beleifs in the White House. My Fathers family are ALL Pentcostal's and they are just not right in the head!

    • Posted By: willi583 @ 10/29/2008 9:42:36 AM

Guess you have not looked at the Trinity Church of Chicago's site then have you? Newsweek you are showing your bias and ignorance!

hey! mireyaf1125 you are so misguided. Many of the founding fathers were not actually christian but only raised chritsian. Throughout their education growing up and based on their own observations, they believed there was a higher power but it was not in the manner of christianity, (hence the phrase: The age of enlightenment). If there is only one true way, why is there so many religions that have existed way before the
birth of christianity? Why is it that many cultures in many different locations on the globe have conflicting views and yet there are criticized as if they are lowly?

    • Posted By: mireya1125 @ 10/29/2008 5:29:02 AM

Where do you get your facts from. So you admit there fathers were founded on Christian beliefs but not them....hummm. Not a time for a bible study and maybe before saying that I am misguided, you should stick to the main idea that this is not about religion it's about reality. If it were any other person or Obama getting prayed for who claims to be a Christian, but then forgets he is and has to be corrected on national TV about Muslim background? Let them pray for her all freakin day and night. Everybody has a right to their beliefs whether they trust in God or not. Keep it simple man.

      • Posted By: CrystalK999 @ 10/29/2008 9:42:08 AM

Enter Your CommentActually his facts are pretty accurate. If you read the personal writings of some of our founding fathers such as Jefferson or Franklin you would find out exactly how nonchristian they really were. His other claims are the result of theologic and anthropologic studies. A thorough knowledge of both are important when having discussions about religion.

I had the unfortunate experience of being raised as penticostal in an assembly of god church. They are a creepy bunch of hateful people that speek in tongues during service and preech nothing but doom a gloom. They will turn on you in an instant if you sway from their views and tell you that you wish you hadn't when you are in your death bed and the firey grimstone of hell is upon you... jerks. They brainwash you and want you believe everything they say is true without question and if you do question anything, they start putting their hands on you and pray that satan leaves this child of god alone. The worst was having to sing that damn song over and over again... I will march in the infantry, ride in the calvary, shoot the artillery, cause I'm in the lord's army... good message for kids. losers.

    • Posted By: shellbell @ 10/29/2008 9:42:06 AM

For singing it over and over you sure dont know the words. It is I MAY NEVER march in the infantry....Meaning we may never have to fight on the front line but we are still a member of Gods infantry. God is about love and mercy and if U grew up in a church like that I am so sorry for you, but that does not mean God is wrong. They just were!

    • Posted By: soldouttoJesus @ 10/29/2008 9:40:05 AM

It must have been awful to have been in a church such as that one. Please do not make the mistake of believing that every church is like that. There are many pentecostal-based, charismatic, and evangelical churches today where people speak in tongues, operate on the basis of God's love, and teach His word in a manner in which He would be very pleased. Don't make a case against God because of the actions of foolish people. God was not in the church you attended.

It is very apparent that that this particular journalist has very little knowledge about todays "mainstream" churches. Most people know of or have heard of someone who practices wicca, is this not witchcraft? If so, why does the media only acknowledge it when the subject has nothing to do with christianity? Furthermore, Gov. Palin was not , as you call it, saved from witchcraft a prayer of protection was being prayed over her, andwhat is prayer but a petition to God on someones behalf?. She wasn't being blessed by this pastor, he was petitioning God for her safety and for God to bless her since mans blessing means very little but God's can mean the difference between success and failure. Maybe it would benefit newsweek to find out who God is and not worry about what church believes what doctrine. Gov. Palin is a strong woman and I commend her for her steadfast faith in proclaiming Jesus Is Lord.

  • Posted By: chggoc @ 10/29/2008 9:41:49 AM

Yet another video slamming McCain/Palin... big surprise... where is the video from the LA times regarding Obama and Ayers at a home fundraiser? The media should be ashamed of themselves, and demand that the LA Times make public that video... or stop with the McCain/Palin bashing.

  • Posted By: longisland45 @ 10/29/2008 9:41:30 AM

Why is Newsweek more interested in Sarah's faith - by the way my husband & I also attend an Assembly of God church - than Obama's affiliations with Ayers, Wright and the list goes on. We still don't know where Obama stands on anything --- just a lot of jibberish coming out of his mouth. How sad that journalism has come to this. Praise God for FOX NEWS! - fair & balanced!

  • Posted By: communismisgreat @ 10/29/2008 9:41:19 AM

Of course attending a church that preaches racism and hatred says nothing about Barry Obama's beliefs. You folks on the left are so pathetic. I think history demonstrates fairly conclusively that we have more to fear from people like Obama who ignore their faith, or others who have no faith, than from people who strive to live Christian lives.

By the way, Newsweek has really turned into a rag, hasn't it?

Barack Obama DID NOT use the Koran when sworn in as a member of Congress.

Minnesota Representative Keith Ellison took his oath on the Koran and frankly, I wish he were from my district. Better to be proud of Ellison than embarassed by Minnesota Representative Michele Bachman.

  • Posted By: mckeeuser @ 10/29/2008 9:41:15 AM

Hoe biased can you get. WOuld you also like to write an article slamming Obama and his so called religious views. I have one thing to say for this. With Obama saying that the Bible is his favorite book, you could maybe write an article about how hippocritical that is. The bible isn't just literature, it is the Word of God and I am happy to say that Sarah Palin's views actually line up with that. Read the bible and see the truth for yourself from the oldest, best selling book in America before you go writing an article like this again. 1 Peter 2:9 That verse has been around for a lot longer than Obama's clouted religion!
