This is attempt to divert the attention of the religious right away from the actual issues. The ideas here is to put keep conservatives from voting for McCain/Palin. Please explain how this is any different from republicans harping on the Ayers/Obama relationship or scratching a "B" on their face for airtime.

There is none. People choose to be blind and ignorant simply because of their belieff system and many times their self-righteous ways that are often deep rooted in predjuice, unfounded beliefs. We must unit, Love and not divide. The issues that Barack has placed before us and his desire to unify all mankind and offer some support and care for the poor and middle class is what we ALL should stand for, but hatred and division what is what seems to rule the day. This is very sad. People need to stop suffering from ignorance or lack of knowledge, hatred, division and racism.

      Go Obama/Biden

I am so disappointed with so many Americans that are being sucked in by this attempt by the disgusting liberal media to draw our attention from the critical issues we need more information on, by focusing on every morsel of Sarah Palin's life. Do people not understand that all of these attacks on Palin are ridiculous, and completely unfair. Where are all the "tidbits" on Obama and Biden? Maybe I want to know who Obama's drug dealer was when he was using cocaine. Why are Americans so easily swayed by his charisma and smooth talk? Does a smooth talker necessarily make a good leader-I know plenty of extremely intelligent people that are not great speakers. One last thought-I am confident that this economic crisis will eventually end regardless of who is elected, but who do we want to guide us through our equally critical issue of national security and foreign policy? A seasoned war veteran, or an inexperienced 2 year Senator, with questionable ties to "hometown" terrorists and and an organization currently being scrutinized for voter fraud?

sheryl0513 your statement is completely false. It was not Barack Obama who used the koran at his swearing in but a member of the House of Representatives (not the Senate) that used the koran for their swearing in. Barack is a Christian not that it should matter. The men who founded this country didn't want religion to be a part of the government because of how easily it is used to manipulate individuals who don't take the time review the facts and think critically about important issues.

It is disgusting to me that yet again we attack the Mccain camp. How is it that we concentrate on Sarah Palin and her religious beliefs, rather than circulating stories of how the Obama Camp refuses to do interviews when asked tough questions? How is it that yet again the liberal media wants to bring negative light to the GOP. I am all about being fair, but to try and discredit someone (in a very obscure way) because of their religious beliefs is ridiculous. It is disgusting to me that we talk about Sarah Palin's beliefs, but the story of Obama's and his pastors comments are something of the past. Plus it is ridiculous that "Christians" think they can pick and chose what to believe from the Bible. How can you claim to be a Christian and belief in Jesus and what he did for us, but say that is the only important and true part of the Bible? Pick a side, because you will not always have the choice!

What is wrong with being an atheist? The Christians will tell you that if you are not a Christian, then you are of the wrong religion, a bad person, or are doomed to hell. Go tell that to the many billions of people who are not Christians.

Sheryl0513 - Everyone should think twice? Maybe you should! Listen to Colin Powell's endorsement of Obama from Meet The Press. What he says (that I agree with) is the problem is not whether he is Muslim or not, which he isn't, but if he was why would it matter? He's an American, period. That's what matters. If you don't know like him, fine, but I read his latest book and he does love his country. Just don't misconstrue the facts. Let's just remember this this country was founded on escaping religious persecution and the first amendment of the US Constitution gives us the freedom to practice whatever religion we want. And to not look down on anyone for their personal beliefs.

Why is it so strange when "white" people vote for a "black" candidate? Where were all the questions when "black" people had been voting for "white" people for years? We say we look at character and objectives...but do we? The bottom line is...no one is ever prepared for this office. Everything always change as soon as they get in, and they have to re-shuffle priorities. The key is ...who do they have in their cabinet that defines the quality and structure of their leadership. Every elected President is a rookie, they become experts after the first term.

Grotesque bias! There's not a word in this article that hints to the similarities between Palin and Obama's choices in churches with zealous preachers. How can you write an article about one candidates questionable religious choices and not so much as mention that an opponent made questionable choices, too? Shame on Newsweek!
I may not agree with Palin's religious preferences, but I applaud her for not backing down to pressure. It was only when Reverend Wright's distorted views became inconvenient for Obama that he threw him under the bus!
If after reading this article your considering holding Palin's choices in a church against her, it's only fair to do the same with Obama.
Absolutely, completely, unfair article by Newsweek!
I'm going to search through Newsweek and see what kind of coverage they gave about Obama's choices to see if it was as insinuating as this one.

SO GOES THE BELIEVER - SO GOES THE NATION!

Moses was a pretty good "president" to, but God disciplines the NATION, not the President. Want God to heal our land? We need to get out of the degeneration, TURN FROM OUR WICKED WAY, Serve Him, THEN and ONLY THEN will God hear our prayers!! Black and white, God said it! Period.

Thank you for this article...it has given me a new respect for Ms Palin..She is a lady of Good character and has based her belief in the bible ...I often wonder how come persons who have never lived the book think that they can judge one who has been living it for as long as Ms Palin..People who are spiritually ignorant do not have the foggiest idea of God or His word ... Only those in the kingdom are allowed to understand it ...to everyone else its foolishness ,anyway ,they will ALL become believers one day, a second after they die.

Since when is a person's religion so important . If it is then we better hear about Obama's religious views and what churches he has visited since he was 4 years old. For God's sake, look at Palin's family and how she has raised her children. Look at her relationship with her husband. Look at how the media is blasting certain candidates for office!!!

Fellow Christians, remember PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION on Election Day.
Barack Obama is only a Christian and believes in God when it is politically correct to do so.
    That is HIS First Commandment.
And it will be OUR last.

If we were to ignore Palin's religion - I wonder if there'll be any supporters. I guess her main support come from people of same faith. Other than her religion - I have difficulty understanding why she has submitted herself to be scripted, clothed and be the scapegoat of McCain's campaign machinery. She's a slave to her own ambitions. asi-am pinayoz

The last time I checked we still had freedom of religion in this country. It doesn't matter whether you are kneeling facing the east, wearing a covering on your head or lifting your hands to heaven, we all, including politicians, have the right to worship as we please. As long as we all support each individual's right to this freedom, and do not force our beliefs on others, it will remain a freedom of choice.

The Bible tells us that the world is influenced by demons. When Jesus healed He often 'cast out demons and healed the sick'. He then sent his followers (todays Christians) to do greater works than He. Witchcraft falls under the heading of demons. For those of you who don't beleive the Bible I understand that you don't understand this. For those of you who think the Bible is a smorgsboard where you can pick and chose what you believe you may not accept this. For those of us who may not understand how all pieced of the Bible fit together but believe it is the inspired work of God, witchcraft is amoung us and we need to pray its influence off us.

I don't care for Sarah Palin but I don't think her religeous beliefs should be on the table. What she believes is her business. The Bush years taunted religion and made it part of the political process. The religeous nuts elected Dubya because he is spiritual. He's a complete idiot but he's spiritual. And look at where we're at. The Republicans use religion as a tool so deal with it when it backfires.

    • Posted By: jeremyfive @ 10/29/2008 9:34:44 AM

Right! The criminal Republican party decided long ago that they would not stop at the door of the church, or the door to the bedroom.

Now when they have a religious looney like Palin, and a sex-freak like McCain (long history of involvement with strippers, sex workeers and widely-rumored affairs. . .

They have to take it. Turnabout is fair play, and the Republicans are criminal low-lifes. Has McCain been checked for STD's?

I also wanted to clear something up from a couple comments I saw....there is only one God and the only way to God is through Jesus.period. It doesn't matter if you are Catholic, Baptist, what ever, if you accept Christ as your savior then you have the promise of ever lasting life.

    Dear writer ,
Your personal bias makes you look like the worst writer in the world. You lose credibility right away in any thing you say by showing your hatred and lack of knowledge about Documented History . Dont think the bible is credible ? Thats ok there is plenty of extra biblical transcripts out there backing up the bibles history. You seriously need to give up writing, until you can learn to stay neutral.

    Good Morning Lisa and Andrew,

Do America a favor and get a clue. This is not what Newsweek is about. I can read the National Enquirer and
receive this nonsense. What happen to reporting that was fair and honest? I have been reader of your publication for over 25 years, and if this publication is turning into a liberal rag, you have just lost a customer.
Witches and black cats, what has Newsweek become. You should be ashamed as a journalist. What a disgrace!

    Jim
