It has always stuck me about the anti choise people....you never care about the baby after birth. Is it that you just want more to brainwash and to grow up to be sacrificed as soldiers in your crusades. The laws of our great nation are designed to give everyone the right to choose thier life path. I do not like abortion, but I do not have the right to tell a women what she can do or not do.

    • Posted By: chuckle @ 10/29/2008 9:15:44 AM

I agree completely with morsortofixit and Mrs. Plinkett. I don't believe that an in utero fetus is a any thing but an "it" until the Lord gives "it" a soul as "it" takes its first breath. Adam and Eve did not receive a soul until God gave them breath. You anti-choice people care so much for the "it" but once "it" receives a soul you break all your promises and abandon the mother, who did not want the "it" anyway and they end up like Kaylee Anthony. Kaylee's grandmother is the one who should be in jail,

    • Posted By: baybay @ 10/29/2008 7:53:33 AM

NO, BECAUSE IT IS **NOT** A WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHETHER OR NOT TO MURDER HER OWN CHILD. "ABORTION" & "PRO-CHOICE" ARE THE SAME THING! The Bible says "You shall not murder." PERIOD.

        • Posted By: baybay @ 10/29/2008 8:37:32 AM

Capital punishment is justice. ABORTION IS NOT!
War is fighting for what you believe is right. It's not about seeking death. ABORTION IS!
ABORTION IS NOT A WOMAN'S CHOICE. HOW DARE A WOMAN CLAIM THAT IT IS HER RIGHT TO MURDER SOMEONE IF SHE SO CHOOSES. HOW DISGUSTING!

        • Posted By: paproudmom @ 10/29/2008 8:31:31 AM

There is nothing hypocritical about being pro-life and pro-capital punishment. In one case you have an innocent who has done nothing wrong on the other you have one was has been judged guilty by a court of law. The innocent gets no hearing. To compare the two is too make them equal. They are not.s

    • Posted By: Mrs. Plinkett @ 10/29/2008 8:18:34 AM

And those who preach so mightily about abortion will be the same ones pushing for the death penalty. They are pro-life in utero only. And even that is questionable sometimes. For this little life that they profess to love so much, they cut spending on programs like right from the start medicaid and WIC. They do not support healthcare programs for prenatal care. America has the infant mortality rate of some third world countries and that can be contributed to lack of prenatal care.

QUIT drinking the Kool-Aid people...Both parties are putting stuff out there that is not true. Palin is no more of a religious nutcase then Obama is a Muslim terrorist who is going to have Bin Laden over for tea...I just don't get people who can't think for themselves. That is the problem with our country over the last couple of decades. We have let others do the thinking for us because it was too easy to just live our comfortable lives and let someone else take care of the world andit's problems, afterall we are Americans and we are righteous and the chosen ones...We are paying for that apathy now folks. The world sees us as a bunch of hypocrites and idiots, and you know what, they are right...we are. We need to get back to our roots and become the America we once were. A great and gracious country where we accept all who have a desire to be free. Instead we bicker and accuse each of other of actions that we truly no nothing of other than what the media has told us, but we believe it because we are trained to believe it because I'm a Republican and you are a Democrat so by-god it must be true...
We must change as a nation to become great again. One man or one woman cannot do it. It has to come from all us if we are to continue in that great dream our forefathers once had.

When writing this article, why didn't you just put that you support Obama. This is totally unbiased and poorly written. Isn't news SUPPOSED to be unbiased??? Sarah Palin will be a wonderful leader and her strong religious beliefs will only benefit her.

Why not print an article on the religious views of Joe Biden????? Why is that not on MSNBC's home page? Can't we play fair?

No, Newsweek is not kidding you. We get no thorough vetting of "The One" and his wacko America-hating church, but Gov. Palin gets raked over the coals.

Journalism died in 2008, good riddance!

    Re: jarsofclay's "(Godly) Fathers

Learn some history. Our founding fathers were not the most godly in their beliefs. Franklin was not the only atheist in the group. However, with most being politically-minded, they stifled those notions. Also, ever hear of "Separation of Church and State?"

    • Posted By: paproudmom @ 10/29/2008 8:41:24 AM

You really don't know your history. What a one-sided analysis.

      • Posted By: DStewart007 @ 10/29/2008 8:52:34 AM

Separation of Church and State (if you knew anything about it) was to PROTECT THE CHURCH FROM THE STATE, not the other way around. Do you recall pre-revionist history class of why people in England and Europe left their lands for America? Religious persecution and over taxation by the British Government of the time. Over taxation & religious persecution.....hmmmm see any parallels with today?

        • Posted By: sciguy2015 @ 10/29/2008 9:14:58 AM

Actually, it was intended to work both ways. "In God We Trust" was not put on coins until the latter 1800s. That is when religious wackos held sway, like the inept and equally wacko Bush administration has over the last 8 years. There is no government regulation of religion in the U.S. You snake worshippers can do as you please in Appalachia.

  • Posted By: jayf1948 @ 10/29/2008 9:14:26 AM

Newsweek must be very excited. It seems, if the polls are correct, that they are finally getting the socialist government they've always wanted but were afraid to move to another country to enjoy. This story is a waste of time. Why didn't you spend investigative resources to find out why there is no paper trail on Obama's community organizing (he admitted on Meet the Press), on his Harvard papers and many other things in his background. He is the fence post turtle. You know he didn't get there on his own (nothing in his past points to this success on his own), he can't do anything without someone's help and he can't go forward without a master hand aiding him. Someone is pulling his strings and using his charisma (with no substance) to further their agenda.

It's clear the writers of this article are very biased against biblical truth and Mrs.Palin. I would suggest that they read the bible.Their argument is against God's Word and not Mrs.Palin. To try and make Mrs. Palin look radical because she has a value system set by God through His word verses is very sad, Those who like to determine right and wrong by what ever philosophy is popular in the polls are at best hard to understand or follow. Perhaps that is part of our problem in America greed and people who are lovers of self intellect and pleasue rather than lovers of God. Yeah I'm one of those radical Christians who think Jesus in Lord and God is very actively involved in human affairs. Mrs.Palin is a great choice because of her faith and her strong value system. That is a plus in my book and not a negative. I think we have all had enough of slick talk and wobbling moral stances. These people are usually unstable under stress and are prone to make decisions based on polls and self interest and not the best long term interest of our country.

To say that the Bible is a fairy tale is insulting our maker and our christian religion. Once you obtain knowledge and wisdom you will leave your heathen fairy tail world behind. If a statement is true and is in your best interest it is not an insult. I have nothing to gain by what I said but those who listen well and turn to the Bible have much to gain!!!!

We Pentecostals Love God, Jesus, The Bible, Amer ica, Israel, the Arab people for they were there on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:11) and believe that God has provided salvation for all through the person of Jesus of Nazareth, regardless of their religous affliation. We stand with mainstream Christianity as it relates to the tenents of the faith, e.g. virgin birth, atonement of Jesus Christ through His death, burial, and resurrection, spiritual tranformation through the Holy Spirit, as well as the Second Coming of Jesus to establish God's kingdom on earth. If any of these things seem to be foreign to any then all Christianity should come under scrutiny including Baraks Christianity. Barak has said the "Sermon on the Mountain" is the most radical of the teachings of Jesus. And if one reads Matthews gospel they will see some radical things Jesus did like cast out devils and cleanse deformed lepers!

I totally and completely agree, but whose righteousness are we going to follow. The ones who okayed slavery, still practices it today with the rich getting richer and poorer getting poorer (modern day slavery), or are we truly going to learn to love and unit which is what God wants and at least Barack is attempting saying that is what he wants, whether we belive it or not or whether it is true or not. So, whose righteousness are we going follow. Our country was supposed to be following the Bible from the beginning but this country has consistently used the bible for racial, greedy, oppressive desires!

Shouldnt we discuss the "christianity" of the one who has had ties with islamic fundamentalist? Reported online from other sources, Obama's dad/stepdad muslim fundamentalist mother an atheist? Gee lets investigate what has a proven record of terror on our people. I thought the purpose of a journalist is to report both sides fairly.. Tell the whole story. We should be receiving an article just as 'informative' as this one. Thank you for your attempt but you have failed us by not including, "the whole story."

What an appalling and completely irrelevant prying into Sarah Palin's personal life. Liberals, including most of the media and most certainly Newsweek, cry out for the separation of church and state, until bringing a politiician's religious beliefs into the political arena servers their purpose. Or at least, they believe it suits their purpose. This is a microcosm of what has been wrong with the Democratic party for the last decade. It is predominated by the ideology of metropolitan elitists who have no idea that the vast majority of us in the rest of the country share a different morality, a set of core values that is founded on belief in God. It's worth noting that even at this late stage, when the issue has clearly been fleshed out, Newsweek continues to misquote Palin's comments on Iraq. What she said is that we should and I paraphrase "pray that the Iraq war is a task from God." She wasn't declaring it a Holy war, she was simply praying for assurance that our cause was just in the eyes of God.

If anyone involved in this discussion has ever had shellfish to eat, you are a SINNER. You must ask for forgiveness NOW! I wonder if Sarah Palin ask for forgiveness every day for wearing make-up and cutting her hair. A woman is supposed to take a backseat to her husband according to the Bible. The point I'm making is this, the Bible says a lot of things that for some reason, people of faith brush aside. These "faithful" claim that every word of the bible is relevant yet, out of the other side of their mouth say, certain things are not relevant. How do you reconcile that? Religion is responsible for more deaths and wars then anything else in history. The love, tolerance, and understanding that religion is supposed to be about has been hijacked by freaks, nuts, and opportunist wanting power and money. Slavery, torture, murder, civil rights violations, all of these atrocities have had religious backing by perversion of man. I am a homosexual that loves God, and believes that God loves me, he created me just the way I am. My civil right to marry the one I love is forbid by government by way of religion. People that claim to be "true believers" have hurled insults, judgements, and hate at me, then sit down in church and believe what they did was for God. Stop justifying everything with religion. Religion is to guide, not to hate. If God was going to condem everyone to hell for wearing make-up, eating shellfish, or whatever, then what is the point? You can be born again, but I doubt that makes God just turn his head. You can't ask forgiveness and continue to repeat the same sin over and over. If you do repeat the same sin over and over then you weren't really sorry for it in the first place and God knows that.

Sorry - Atheists, by far are responsible for the most deaths and wars (Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pol, Robespierre, Kim Jong Il and Mengistu - all followers of scientific materialism, most followers of Marx, caused by far the most death. And Christianity came into being during the greatest immoral genocidal dictators of antiquity (think Nero and Caligula).

Don't forget the crusades and the mess in northern Ireland right now between protestantism and catholicism. Franco, ya know of Spain, was a christian too. No one ever mentions him. Part of his agenda was to keep Spain christian and rid it of those darned intellectuals.

I had the impression that Newsweek was an outlet that was interested in presenting the facts, not in voicing bigotry blogs. I can't wait to see what their unbiased writers will present next... anything on the gay and lesbian agenda?

I am Pentecostal and proud of it. We worship with hands in the air as a sign of surrender to Jesus. When answering an alter call for prayer, It is not uncommon for others to lay hands on someone and pray for them. That is just the way it is done. What is wrong with that? Its not the drama the media is trying to make of it.
The people at my church are just regular people, not "witch hunters". Why don't you reporters try going to church and finding out about the different denominations before passing your "judgement" that means nothing to us in the end?
