it's almost like newsweek has been asleep for a hundred years and awakened to find out what's going on in the 21st century. your writer has no concept of current religion in america, the history of religion in america, and american history itself. this is nothing new and you haven't discovered a hidden cult, and most of amercia is not at all surprised at these practices in the christian church. don't talk to me about diversity or tolerance, liberal media, until you are ready to try and understand and maybe even accept this aspect of the culture in which you live.

This is a waste of time. If you people did as much investigation into Obama's missing paper trails for Harvard, Yale, community organizing and other unasnwered questions, perhaps many of us wouldn't be looking at him as a "Manchurian Candidate". He is like the fence post turtle. You know he didn't get there by himself, you don't know who put him there or why and he won't be able to do anything there without someone else doing things for him.

The unspeakable article mocks Mrs. Palin's church's ceremony in a political attack. Many Democrats enjoy this skewering but are also good Christians and good Americans. I hope the deliberate harm they've done to this lady, this family and her church just for political gain come back to haunt them as both a sin against charity and a sacreligeous assault on a Christian church.

This is why America is a theocracy today. Our forefathers are rolling in their graves.
When you "christians" start living the life your fables intended you too, maybe I'll start believing them.

BTW The REAL issues are McCain voted for a phony war costing TRILLIONS. And tax breaks for the corrupt

Our forefather should be rolling over in their graves. Believing slavery was okay and that black were only 3/5 and some say 75% human. Having said that, Palin and McCain are frauds and criminals. It is truly Barack's presidency.

I enjoyed this article, although it is funny to me, as an Anglican, to read about these crazy Pentacosts, as I would have to classify myself as a crazy Anglican, after having read the article. Although the Assemblies of God Church emphasizes the gifts of the Holy Spirit more than other denominations, I attend an old traditional Anglican Church in historic Fairfax, Virginia, and our church openly believes in all of the things that her AG Wassila church believes in, although these things are not necessarily emphasized to the same degree. I pray in tongues, and am a member of our church's healing prayer team, and I have laid hands on folks and witnessed miraculous healings, in fact one occurred just last Saturday on an Alpha course retreat, it was amazing. In fact, if I may be so bold, the reason why the Pentacostal movement is growing world-wide is that the Christian church, over the centuries, forgot about the Holy Spirit. Using the term Holy Ghost only contributed to this leaving the Holy Spirit aside, focusing instead on Father & Son. So the church that was so vibrant in the early church, where such worship was normal, became abnormal over the many centuries, to the point where now, 1st century style of worship seems odd, especially to secular folks who do not attend church. So, my point is, what is occurring now in the Pentacostal movement, which is very much evident even in my old Anglican church, is NORMAL church, finally returning after about a 1200 year break. Today, it can be opined that church's that do not believe in the filling of the Holy SPirit are in fact the abnormal church's (and their numbers are dwindling), normal church is where folks pray in tongues, lay hands on folks for healing, discern spirits, angels, prophesy, etc, in other words, do all the things that ST Paul talked about in 1st Corinthians, Romans, etc! Welcome to normal Christianity!

    Cheers, and blessings,

    Bob Tate

efcondon, seriously? with rumors going around that obama is a terrorist you are trying to push that bs on us about liberal politicians not getting any heat? have you seen any of McCain's earlier campaign ads where obama was attacked for personal, unsubstantiated flaws (after they were in new york state this summer and have since been removed). the republican campaign has been one of the most slanderous to date

    • Posted By: efcondon @ 10/29/2008 9:06:11 AM

I was not talking about the poloticians bashing each other. I was talking about the lopsided media.

We are voting for the future of this nation and what these officials will do to better our country. No matter their religous affiliation, I'm going to vote for the candidate I can see fighting to better our homeland. We all have the same freedoms and liberties. If Sarah Palin's beliefs are coming under such criticism, why aren't any of the other candidates having to answer for what they do or don't believe to this extent? As a voter, I want an unbiased report. If a story such as this is featured on any one candidate, regardless of their beliefs, I want to know what the others stand for and in the same amount of detail. I commend and appreciate her for not giving generalized answers that would be pleasing to the majority of voters in order to get elected. She herself stated it was a personal matter. I haven't heard any reports saying Palin is endorsing God for president.

BIG AMEN TO THIS ONE TOO!! WELL SAID!!!!

  • Posted By: donnarita @ 10/29/2008 9:05:31 AM

I am Pentecostal and proud of it. We worship with hands in the air as a sign of surrender to Jesus. When answering an alter call for prayer, It is not uncommon for others to lay hands on someone and pray for them. That is just the way it is done. What is wrong with that? Its not the drama the media is trying to make of it.
The people at my church are just regular people, not "witch hunters". Why don't you reporters try going to church and finding out about the different denominations before passing your "judgement" that means nothing to us in the end?

  • Posted By: neocane @ 10/29/2008 8:57:29 AM

    Jesus & Witches???
What a ridiculous headline. Once again slanted toward making her look silly. If this were aout BO the headline would read "Obama Has Blessing of Conservative Pastors".

    • Posted By: jazyd @ 10/29/2008 9:05:03 AM

As a black Pentecostal who believes in a lot of the same teachings, you are just silly. If they can blast Barack for Rev. Wright (who by the way told the truth), then they can do the same to Sarah Palin. The article was just telling the truth and outside of the "witch" statement there was nothing so bad about it. People just do not understand religion, those who profess to be Christians and certainly those who do not. Having said all that, Barack is our next President regardless of what is printed good or bad about him or Sarah Palin. The self-righteous, racist beliefs that this country was created under is dead and people are sick and tired of this.

I had rather have a Pentacostal in the Whitehouse than a Muslim. I can't believe the people of this country want Obama in the Whitehouse after what has happened on 9/11 and the first bombing of the World Trade Center and US Cole under Clinton's presidency. I think people have been too hard on President Bush and I for one will miss him and Laura when they leave in January.

    • Posted By: Mrs. Plinkett @ 10/29/2008 8:23:25 AM

One of the most impressive things that Colin Powell said in his endorsement of Obama was when he said that the most pertinent question was not if Obama was a muslim, but instead "So what if he is?" Not all muslims are terrorists, any more than not all white Americans speak the kind of racist and paranoid crap posted here. I would really, really hate for anyone from another country to read this comment section and judge all Americans by what they see here.

      • Posted By: Vivi @ 10/29/2008 9:04:55 AM

A word of reason from Mrs.Plinkett!! Thank you! You have brought up the REAL issue here: Islam-bashing people aren't being afraid of terrorists, they're being... faith-ist(?), if not just racist.

        Muslims are cool and loving.

        Everyone needs to relax.
(If you can't relax, then brush up theology for crying out loud!)

holmeed: You probably don't even know what a christian is/supposed to be. As christians we know why we need Jesus. We are sinners! You are too by the way, even if you don't admit it.

This was a waste of time reading and hard to take seriously. It's not hard to tell it was written by low-grade hacks making a very weak attempt to divert the focus of attention regarding questionable associations from Obama to Palin. It doesn't even come close. Surely Newsweek could have found better use for the space this article took up.

NEWSWEEK? Can you make your wrap in two-ply? I'd rather whipe my A$$ with it, rather than read it! Subscription CANCELLED!

Barak has a muslim background wheres that article? I would rather have someone that knows Jesus Christ then someone who confesses to be a Christian yet does not stand against the murdering of babies with abortion.

  • Posted By: mackie123 @ 10/29/2008 8:51:31 AM

Why are you worried about Sarah Palin when you should be worried about Barack Obama who is denying the fact that he is Muslim.

    • Posted By: jmonarchy @ 10/29/2008 9:02:52 AM

You, my friend, are the very thread that makes up the Republican Party today. A true ignoramous, uneducated idiot.

I also have attended an Assemblies of God church my entire life. The AG is a FELLOWSHIP, not a denomination, meaning that though the churches that are a part of the fellowship have the basic core beliefs, there is a range of specific beliefs. Every denomination or affiliation has their crazies. But 90% of what you mentioned here sounds perfectly normal to me. Before outsiders start making Christians, specifically Pentecostals, sound crazy, perhaps they should ask us for a translation because most of what we believe makes sense, logically and biblically! For example, the statement about witches, which the title of this work is taken, is a statement of REBUKE, hence the word "rebuke". He is not "invoking Jesus and witches in the same sentence." He is rebuking the possible negative effects of witchcraft that others may use against Sarah Palin. Bible-believing Christians should understand this since the Bible speaks to the existence and the evil power of witchcraft. Let's just say that instead of witchcraft he said "Satan." He was asking God to bless Sarah Palin's career and rebuking Satan. Not that crazy.

Did the CEO of Newsweek make sure to post the Reverand Pastor Wright and his relations with Obama all over the magazine? Of course not and it is because the CEO lacks journalistic integrity. The name of this magazine should be called "Pravda" because all it ever spews is partisanship towards the left on a consistent non stop basis and the sad thing about this socialist news organization is that it is protected by the same government it has an utter disdain for. I make pretty good money, but I probably don't make what the CEO of this magazine makes but I do have integrity and a sense of honor and fair play which apparently this CEO lacks. The proof is in black and white, no pun intended because 75%+ of this magazine has a left wing spin to it. So much for telling the American readers both sides of the story.

This article doesn't make sense. I guess it's hard to write about something you know very little about. The media seems to be very one-sided. The thought of God is an ok thought for them but actually having a relationship with Him seems to be above their head. Everything I've read and seen shows Sarah Palin to be a Godly woman. That's what we need. God Bless America!

I would like to know Sarah Palin's beliefs on whether she must "obey" her husband as many fundamentalist and evangelical christians believe. Although I don't like to judge others' religious views, that one could create a very significant conflict for her ability to govern this country if she must obey Todd Palin's policy decisions. We don't know much about his political views other than that he was a member of a political group seeking Alaskan independence from the US. In any event, we would not be electing Todd into office, so I would want assurances that Sarah Palin does not feel obligated by the Bible to make policy decisions based on orders from her husband, should she ever be in the position of President.

    • Posted By: efcondon @ 10/29/2008 8:59:45 AM

"Obey" It does not make her a slave. But you knew that. Unless your a complete moron.
