    NPeters - so you believe everything the bible says, even though it was written by people just like you? I guess that's why I don't believe it - because it was written by people just like you - regular people... and it's unclear to me why people quote the bible as if it were fact instead of an opinion or a user guide. I could quote this article and it would carry the same weight. Can't you think for yourself instead of carrying on something that started as a guide for the masses to not kill each other off?

        So, if we should not believe everything that is written by people just like us, then why would you believe this article by Newsweek or should I say trash that was written by Newsweek? Or do we get to pick and choose? You seem to contradict yourself a little bit. By the way, ultimately the bible was written by God through ordinary men. So funny, as long as we believe in something that the world believes then obviously we will be right but if we believe in something that the world doesn't understand we are witches and snakehandlers. Please help me understand?

The video was made by man, produced by man and submitted by man...............now is being interpreted and debated by man.............all are subject to human error. The withcraft theory is just plain stupid and not worth the argument. Just b/c people dont understand someone elses way of worshipping, Christians included, they are thought to be witches, etc.....I just do not understand.....

    Is this the best you can do?? It is not "breaking story" that Christians believe in a darker power. You don't need Youtube, you just need to read the bible. And you're suggestion that Sarah's religious beliefs will negatively impact her job as VP is weak. I guess all our founding fathers and all Presidents were "Right-Wing Christian Nuts". George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson ran this country based on their faith and did it quite well. You need to do some real investigative reporting instead of just logging onto Youtube. It seems to me that because the Media can't find a real issue of concern on Sarah Palin and John McCain, it should make everyone consider voting for them.

      Abraham Lincoln was not a Christian and VERY proud of that fact. "The Bible is not my book and Christianity is not my profession" - Good ole Abe. Thomas Jefferson's Proudest accomplishment was not penning the Constitution but the fact that He added the SEPERATION of Church and State inito it's very core. Our founding fatthers all left Good Old England because they we're being controlled by a "Christian" run goverment that restricted their beliefs. So before you invoke our past for your defense you shoud do some research yourself. Maybe we would do better not to have a "Christian" Pres or one who doesn't pretend to be... Lets try fo fix this world and worry about the next when we get there.

        Scott Sherlock - You read one phrase and think you can some up Abe Lincoln he aslo said, "Lincoln never let the world forget that the Civil War involved an even larger issue. This he stated most movingly in dedicating the military cemetery at Gettysburg: "that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain--that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom--and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth". You sir need to read a little more. Thomas Jefferson did beleive in the separation of Church and State and we did leave Europe for Religious freedom. But make no mistake, these men believed in God and used God's word in every aspect of our culture, government, and laws. It is you who needs to research further.

    In an earlier posting your exposition is that Palin is not a Socialist since she took money money from oil companies and redistributed it to Alaska citizens... It's not Socialism because "Alaska has no State taxes... It is not taking money from one person and giving it to another person." Where did the oil companies get that money?

    Palin took all the earmarked federal tax money she could, hired a lobbyist to get more, took the 'Bridge To Nowhere' federal tax earmark funds, while repeatedly telling the electorate that she told Congress "no thanks". And then she cuts a check to everyone in Alaska. You say that's not Socialism or Redistribution, you say that's "capitalism".

    But I should fear Obama as a "The Redistributionist In Chief" and a "Socialist" because he wants to roll back a tax break for the rich that (before he sold out to the right wing) McC opposed and called 'irresponsible" because it benefitted "only the rich"?

    Is your most recent reposting here directed to fears about "Socialism", or is it just innuendo, or are we trying to fold in a little racism too?

    I've got an idea, since we have no more ideas, let's keep running our campaign on fear, smears and hypocrisy.

      Huge difference. She did not pick and chose who would get a check. Every citizen go a check. It was nothing more than getting their own money back for them. She didn't try to decide for herself who deserved it and who didn't. Everyone got a check - HUGE DIFFERENCE.

    Honestly, looking at McCain and Obama objectively (without any party affiliation or any racism) I really can't see why anybody would vote for McCain. Obama has offered a much more coherent plan to get America out of the economic disaster we are in.

    Right now, most people are anxious about the economy, fearing the worst but hoping for the best.

    Reality check: within 18 months YOU could be standing in a bread line. That's how bad it really is. And Obama will work actively to prevent this short term, as well as make us strong again long term. As much as I like McCain and admire his patriotism, he really is not up for the job, not now with the global markets falling apart.

        It's not clear to me what is unfair about having rich people pay more taxes (as a %) than lower income people. (By the way, - my taxes will go up under Obama - as will Oprah's - and your's probably won't.)

        And I really don't think we should be giving tax breaks to Exxon-Mobile when they've recorded record profits for 2 years in a row while poor children and old people have no medical insurance. How about you look at the big picture instead of just following McCain's rhetoric?

          Yes, the oil company's record profits were somehow McCain's fault. I guess Obama will confiscate them and give them away? And your "Old people don't have insurance" is nonsense. That's what medicare is for. Along with a med supplement, my elderly parents have done fine.

          But of course, Obama, who said "we are our brother's keeper" will take care of all of you! Just don't tell his own brother that. He allows him to live on 12 dollars a year in cardboard shack. But, hallelujah!!! He's going to take care of millions he doesn't' even know.

    I don't think Newsweek ever had an in depth piece of what Obama's pastor believes in or what he preached or what the prevalent view among the congregation is. Double standard?
    Liberals often say that the right answer to certain conservative section claiming Obama is a secret muslim is "so what?" But liberals themselves cannot stand a conservative Christian lady as their VP. They hated her even before they came to know her.

        There's a big difference between Wright and Palin's church.

        Obama denoucned Wright. What does that mean? That means he does not believe in the things that Wright says.

        Has Palin denounced her church? There's a BIG difference between these two issues. Doing a story on Wright is meaningless because Obama has disassociated himself from these things.

        Palin on the other hand closely associates with her church and in fact counts on the support from the image of her being in that church.

        This is a HUGE difference. Doing a story on Wright doesn't matter because Obama doesn't closely associate and subscribe to Wright. Palin, on the other hand, is directly involved and (with video evidence)is deeply integrated with the church.

        The problem with mentioning Wright is not that you're a racist. The problem is you're trying to paint Wrights ideals on Obama. It's the same with Ayers. Ayers happened to be on the same council- it was a coincidence. Other conservatives were on the same council. Trying to peg these two mens ideals on Obama is a much different issue than Palin's deep integration with her church.

        And there is plenty the so called "liberal media" have not covered on Palin and McCain. How about the fact that Palin's Mayorship of Wasilla was a part time job with practically no responsibilities other than signing checks. Why is this important? She made it a major point during the RNC about how she has more experience than Obama. How about McCains association with various former bank executives and consultants to the banking industry? There are many issues that have gone unexplored. The issue is not who they pander to, but whether the story is viable and will grab people's attention. Wright is old primary news, not current national election news.

        Oh, and as for liberals not being able to stand a Christan lady as their VP- both Obama and Biden go to church. The difference is they're not trying to convert everyone in sight like Palin would want to.

          Obama sat in front of an angry, racist maniac who thinks the KKK runs the government and that the government created the AIDS virus to kill all black people. When this came to the public's attention, Obama said he had never heard Wright say these things, then recanted when he figured out that the public wouldn't buy it and said he had. He then said he could no more disown the Rev. Wright than he could his own grandmother, but then unceremoniously did so when it became politically expedient for him to do so. The difference here is Obama was mentored by Wright for 20 years, then "suddenly" found his ideas "detestable". Palin's pastor was not her mentor. Big difference.

            Vypurr, the KKK DID run the government in the South for over a hundred years after the Civil War was fought. Even after the Civil Right Act in the 1960s, the KKK continued to run the government in the South, and only the brave actions of Robert Kennedy as Attorney General changes this.

            Furthermore, during the 1920s, 30s and 40s the US Givernment ran an experiment in Mississippi where then intentionally gave thousands of black people siphyllus. This disease has a decades-long course, and the government wanted to study it. So they infected thousands of black people without their knowledge or consent. These people thought they were getting health care. Instead, they were treated as guinea pigs. So for Reverend Wright to think that our government gave black people (and gays) the HIV virus is not really such a long stretch.

            Furthermore, Reverend Wright grew up in a time when black people were lynched and killed for no reason at all. In his manhood, he saw the USA stand up to these hate crimes. He joined the Civil Rights Movement. When he rants about black rights, sure, it's hard to listen to, but it is no different than when my Grandad goes on about WWII, which were the greatest, most formative moments in his life.

              Nins, while there may have been a few scattered KKK members in the government in the deep south, the KKK did not "run the government." And you and I have been here before... I know Wright had a hard time, along with thousands of other blacks grappling with the racism of his youth, but he needs to put that away and stop perpetuating it, which is exactly what he's doing when he goes into his tangents. BTW, comparing Wright's racial tirades to McCains "going on about WWII" is apples to oranges.

                Why is it that blacks and other minorities should put away their angst regarding the racism of their youth, but no one tells Jews to put away their issues with the Holocaust, no one tell Americans to put away their angst regarding communism, or how we saved the French/British in WWII. Perhaps not all of these are directly comparable to racism in the deep south, but the issue of the Holocaust most definitely is.

                The thing you wrongly assume is that racism and KKK are dead in America when it clearly is not. The reason why Wright and others continually remind their constituents about racism is the same reason the Jews remind people about the Holocaust and antisemitism- to ensure it does not have the potential to happen again.

                If Wright personally experienced the racism, then it only happened a single generation ago, if that. The Holocaust happened much longer ago, and very few, if anyone at all tells Jews to drop the issue. It seems to me at least a mild contradiction that conservatives and Christians expect minorities to drop issues of racism, meanwhile, they're always willing to drop to their knees and be willing apologists for the Jews and the Holocaust. They want the Jews to have more land in the Middle East to make up for the Holocaust, yet we grumble about the fact that Native Americans occupy less land within the US than the Jews do in Israel, and the land we do give Native Americans does not compare in terms of value to what Israel has. Native Americans do not get the same kind of aid and donations that Israel does from the churches of America. This is to say nothing about what African Americans got as an apology for segregation and Jim Crow laws.

                By the way, it is also a mild irony that when Jews do mention KKK, no one groans and tells them to drop it either (if you know your history, you should know that the KKK weren't big fans of Jews either). We take Jews seriously when they mention the KKK, while it is a tired joke (in comparison) when blacks mention it.

                Do I believe they should drop their issues? What I believe is that I did not personally experience the Holocaust or Racism, nor was I a direct victim of their aftermath. Therefore, I cannot judge whether these issues should be dropped.

                With regard to the KKK running the government in the deep south, the leadership of the KKK may not have directly held office, but there was a time when politicians knew that they must break towards KKK beliefs in order to ensure their tenure and reelection to office. This may not amount to direct control, but it does amount to substantial control to the extent of running the government. There's few other reasons why law enforcement would not take serious action when the life and liberty of blacks were violated.

All Obama has to do is denounce any relationship that brings something negitive to his chance of being president and move on and the media says ok no further questions. Don't you believe in the old saying "you are who you associate with"? Wake up. There is great meaning and depth to the relationships he has had and it speaks of his charactor. If you think see that sitting in front of and listening to a hate filled pastor for twenty years doesn't say something about one self, you are blind and ignorant. And then to suddenly disassociate from that relationship when it is polically to your advantage means one thing, just another politian doing what they do best, being dishonest.             If you contend that denunciations are meaningless, then you must detest McCain's complicity in the Keating case. Yes McCain denounced it in Congress. But that doesn't matter because it is still an association according to you.

            Ever hear the phrase actions speak louder than words? McCain ACTED on behalf of Keating. Has Obama ever ACTED on behalf of Wright? No, he in fact never did anything for Wright AND he denounced Wright. These are stark differences.

            Not only does has Davis taken money from Freddie Mac for, well, nothing, but he's also arranged meetings between McCain and a man who is suspected of having criminal and anti-democratic links. Those are some wonderful associations aren't they? Oh yeah, the "liberal" media has done so much to slime McCain for these (sarcasm).

            If associations are everything, and denouncing mean nothing, McCain has a longer and deeper history of bad associations to draw from. Keep in mind, I'm just playing by YOUR rules.

            But, let's go back to the Palin and Obama church comparison, shall we?

            Here's the real question: is it worse for a candidate to denounce his church when it becomes politically expedient, or is it worse for a candidate to unequivocally stand by their church because they are dependent on that association for votes?

            It seems like Palin's connection to her church is ultimately more dangerous if she is unwilling to denounce and even stand by her church. It shows she is politically susceptible to them, where as Obama is NOT.

            But let's pretend it's better to stick by her church. The fact that she panders to them and is much better than the fact that Obama does NOT pander to Wright. That seems like sound, logical thinking.

Her answer was very revealing to me that somehow that was more of a "political act" than a terrorist act. This is a basic syndrome of American religous extremists that condone these violent actions because it is in defense of the unborn. Palin demonstrates the same messianic personality as the current President.

      God is politics and politics is God. Whatever happened to "thou shalt have no other gods before me"? You, and I mean that collectively, have stepped off the cliff into the abyss and you are dragging your God with you. I'm a Pagan and I stand a better chance on 'Judgement Day' than most Christians. I'm sorry if my concern for the rich cultural heritage of the Christian tradition confuses you. I feel the same way about most, if not all cultural traditions. It's called...spell it with me now...R_E_S_P_E_C_T.

      To stand on a dais and accept prayers for money and political power is the antithesis of Christianity. Shame on her and shame on anyone who would defend her actions.

    After hearing McCain and Obama speak, after watching Palin and Bidden and after noting the RNC and DNC positions it is hard to understand anyone having any doubt as to what the right choice is. Unless someone was active in the Republican Party or extremely wealthy, and even then, it is hard to imagine anyone being able to rationally justify voting for McCain-Palin. Their arguments are empty as they only offer unfounded and exaggerated scare and smear tactics that are easily debunked with the truth, while on the issues they just state generalities, heavily embedded with the I pronoun, without any specifics or substance or even any real hope. In contrast, Obama clearly states his positions with detail and defines his objectives as being to benefit the middle class, which then ends up benefiting everyone, while he concentrates on we, us and you. The difference is obvious as being a McCain-Palin rationalized ???more of the same??? focus on benefit for Special Interests and a select few, arrogantly and deceptively pursued or with Obama-Bidden in finally turning things around and really focusing on straightening out the economy, ending the war in Iraq, putting al Qaeda out of business and addressing our many and drastic domestic problems and needs, to the benefit of everyone. McCain and Palin are stuck having to patronize their major supporters and then they just can???t do anything for the majority of Americans, can???t do anything but ???more of the same???.

    Comment: This may explain Palin's curious answer or non-answer to Brian William's question during that recent interview regarding Bill Ayers being a terrorist and Palin said yes to that. But when Williams asked her if the same term could apply to those who bomb abortion clinics she said some gobbldygook about that what they did was more a "political" statement than being a domestic terrorist. This is a syndrome of many American politicized religous fundamentalists extremists hold that they can condone those acts in the name of God when they believe a medical clinic that help women in general with their reporductive rights. And Plain's "aw shucks" performances camouflage a messianic complex like Bush #2.

    I am not American, hell I live an ocean away right in the heart of the Mediterranean... I am not that acquainted with American politics so bear with me... Has this election come down to choosing the best of two evils? I am surfing through the comments here and both McCain and Obama have been vilified and praised with the utmost fervour and with equal conviction... So you see I am kinda confused about it all...

      It's actually quite simple. Both sides demonize the other, because both sides tend to view their party as a sports team...they will stick by them no matter what, and they'll have lots of rotten things to say about the opposition.

            Hmm politics is the same the world over.. In my country this situation was never more apparent when we were about to join the European Union... Both sides seem to swear on the Cross to serve the people but I would think it is more than a charade... I agree with paproudmum that there has to be a better way but I tend to end up thinking like Doc Howl... I think both sides have much to offer and both sides have their dirty laundry...

        Hate to burst you bubble Notoosober, but the theory of evolution was conceived over 100 yrs ago and 100 yrs since it's inception, science has yet to prove even one aspect of evolution (not one fossil record, nothing!). As a matter of fact it's been disproven time and time again, most notably with the discovery of the Pre-Cambrian Explosion, but I'm sure you've never even heard about that one because radical Evolutionist won???t allow anyone to discuss it. Evolution is a cult. I suggest you read Ann Coulter???s book Godless and watch Ben Stein???s documentary Expelled ??? No Intelligence Allowed, to hear more proof of Evolution???s non-existence and why liberals and atheists are so keen to shove their agenda down everyone???s throats.

          by the way - the theory of the bible was created a couple of thousand years ago and it has yet to be proven, so I'm not sure why you're suprised that evolution hasn't been proven - it's only been around about 1/20 as long.... (and evolution has in fact been proven to all except those stuck in the 15th century.)

          and a big FYI - the world isn NOT flat....
