Clearly, when it comes to Sarah Palin and John McCain, NOTHING is sacred and many members of the media will absolutely stoop to ANYTHING, if it serves their personal agenda and world view. The ironic truth here is that the American media is MUCH more likely to "go off the reservation" to see their world view promoted than Sarah Palin ever would be. The fact is that the American media, in the hands of such influential personalities as Bill Maher, Keith Olbermann, Chrs Matthews, Rachel Maddow, Oprah, Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper, Campbell Brown, David Gergen, James Carville, Paul Begala, George Stephanopoulos, Gloria Borger, Maureen Dowd, Kitty Kelley, Arianna Huffington, Katrina vanden Heuvel, Katie Couric, Brian Williams, Barbara Walters, Joy Behar etc. etc. etc. is MUCH more scary to the American public and MUCH more dangerous to the American electorate and MUCH more subversive for this country than anything that Governor Palin would ever be capable of. The fact is that whether you personally believe it or not that everything that is going on in the world right now makes alot of people, good people, smart people, kind people, NORMAL PEOPLE very concerned about the end of life as we know it. Maybe YOU should be to!!!

I believe the 1st amendment, freedom of religion should put an end to this discussion altogether. Who really cares what her religious beliefs are? I am not a fan of organized religion because of the hypocrisy that can almost always be linked, but if someone professes their fath as a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddist, or whatever, it is not my place to pass judgement. I wish people would stop trying to pick this woman apart and focus on issues that actually matter.

Your headline is very twisted and misleading. The pastor simply prays that any form of witchcraft (or evil) would be unable to affect her. There was nothing negative in his prayer and if praying to God for prosperity (in finances, politics and life in general) is wrong, than what should we pray to our God for? It is sad that you choose to take something positive and faithful and attempt to make it evil. Shame on you.

First I'd like to say that as a Christian I believe that the last days or "end times" as you refer to them will happen, we just have no idea when. Only God knows that. As for the whole witch thing I'm not so sure about that. Anyways, I don't think anyone should be criticized for their religious belifes. I mean, isn't that why we have "Freedom of religion" in this country?

Yes, we do and that is something most of us would like to hold on to. I grew up in a fundamentalist church and was told repeatedly that our religion was the only religion. Our God was the only God. This is very similar to the messages that Palin's church has. If you grew up like that, then having her as your leader might be comforting. However, American is not just white and not just Christian, and for those people whose religious beliefs or Gods, of lack of beliefs for that matter, having someone who believes that her view on religion is the ONLY view on Religion is a frightening thing.

And for those who say "why not look at Biden?" I say - we have. He is catholic. He has talked about his faith. Obama is Christian and has talked in detail about his faith. The other thing that I would like to suggest is that when you listen (if you listen) to the speeches of Obama, that you note how much his faith, his CHRISTIAN faith, enters into his speech. His faith is very strong.

This is alot better than OBAMA's CHURCH of TWENTY EFFING YEARS that said things like G0D D@MN AMERICA and BLAMED AIDS ON THE US GOVERNMENT.

I'll take a kooky pentecostal over a racist anti-american hate machine any day.

    Newsweek fails.

What is it that bothers you about John Hagee? This article is just another subtle smear tactic. They are not "invoking" Jesus and witchcraft. Rebuke means to be against silly. A journalist should know that. Blessing in the name of Jesus and the REBUKING of witchcraft.

  • Posted By: Bizet @ 10/29/2008 8:11:17 AM

OH GOOD GOD!!!! WHAT NEXT WILL THE LEFT WING LUNATICS TRY TO DISCREDIT SARAH PALIN. THIS KIND OF CRAP IS GOING TO LOSE THE ELECTION FOR OBAMA IF THIS KEEPS UP. TRUTH IS, OBAMA HAS RADICAL MUSLIM UNDERPINNINGS!!!!!! MUCH WORSE THAN HAVING MINISTERS PRAY FOR PALIN. GIVE IT UP---ALL YOU MEDIA ARE IN THE TANK FOR OBAMA. HAVE YOU CHECKED THE NEWS LATELY, YOU IDIOTS?????

    • Posted By: Vivi @ 10/29/2008 8:26:55 AM

It is little weird. The Salem trials were a dark chapter in our nation's history, so yes it is disturbing to me in the sense that this man walks around seeking out "witches."

You think Obama's a Muslim (yeah, and Hannity is a Rhodes Scholar), but what do you care if he was? He isn't by the way, but I find your throwing "radical Muslim underpinnings" around WAY more interesting. Please define those terms in your own words. What does radical mean? What are the beliefs Islam? What is an underpinning?

Do you ever use the word "Muslim" without "radical" as a prefix?

Muslims have died for your right to free speech.
Do you hate them, distrust them, or just not understand them?
And does your answer reflect more on them, or on you?

And yes, I have checked the news lately. Perhaps you should check up with your therapist.

There is nothing wrong with this article . Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If weare going to do a religious background analysis on any one of the four candidates, we should have a comparison and contrast for all of the major candidates. Do a complete religious background check for each. Dig up all the related material going back as far as possible. Reviewing just one candidate at a time does a disservice as the readers may not get a complete picture of all the candidates religious views, present and past.

This is a distorted and biased hack job in the place of journalism. That is a huge problem.

  • Posted By: jarsofclay @ 10/29/2008 8:26:11 AM

It is interesting how people can judge something they know very little about. I challenge you to come to my chuch (Assembly of God) and somehow not be changed. If this country wants change we must turn back to our founding (Godly) Fathers. We have lost our way as a Godly nation. Keep leaving God out and I am sure he will keep leaving us alone.

As a believer in some kind of creator of this universe, I can only say that the bible was written by man to control the masses. It was at a time that people were out of control and there was a need to try and control them. The bible was the perfect answer. Great way to keep everyone in line by the threat of hell and the promise of some kind of heaven. In order to prove this you have to talk to someone that has been to either place and tell me what it was like.

    • Posted By: mcdeere72 @ 10/29/2008 8:25:48 AM

I agree in one way, what if the Bible was inspired by God but because man isn't perfect they have made mistakes in translation?

  • Posted By: Calvin0007 @ 10/29/2008 8:25:46 AM

I must have missed it. The story about Barack Obama's religion or Joe Biden's religion. I mean it is obvious that Obama started life being educated as a muslim though he may not be today. Why deny it? Biden's Catholicism is opposed to his and Obama's radical pro-choice politics. Shouldn't that be investigated?

Article VI , section 3 of the Constitution states, "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States." Thus, whatever Palin's (or Obama's, or anyone else's) religious beliefs are, so long as they do not affect how they would govern, is not a legitimate issue.

That said, I really question whether most Americans are intelligent, educated, and/or informed enough, to adequately examine the candidates' qualifications on real-world issues. But that's a topic for other forums.

I agree, This is the usual garabge from the liberal madia! Someone who has "NO" personal religous belief but thinks they are enough of a critic and a "know it all" to make "Head in the sand"statements. Ya you bet the world is going to last forever and We all evolved from a pit of slim, genuis. Look out everybody! It's those crazy christians you need to watch out for!

I would just like to say to Newsweek and the rest of the media: Look at all these comments. What do they tell you? The same thing that Fox News consistently making #1 tells you. YOU ARE LIBERAL AND OUT OF TOUCH WITH AMERICA. YOU CAN'T EVEN REPORT FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE PEOPLE YOU ARE TRYING TO SERVE. You're a joke and all of these comments telling you so should open your eyes.

Why is it that Jew reporters can not resist a chance to bash Christians, under the guise of news?

  • Posted By: vmom @ 10/29/2008 8:22:54 AM

So are there any Christians working at Newsweek? I am confused by this article. Is it the end times the writer disagrees with, or the church in general? You can't take a one day peek at any religion and think you have it all figured out. People need to do their homework. Look up these churches online...and find out what they believe. Most churches put all that info on their websites. And most churches have websites these days. As for the writer...pull out a bible sometime. It is a great read. And God's word is for everyone!!

  • Posted By: HartmanChristian @ 10/29/2008 8:22:51 AM

You guys are sick. Why would you put up a title, "Jesus and Witches?" The video is clear that they were blessing her for the tough job ahead. She needs more prayers to deal with you liberal garbage. The Kenyan pastor is the one that mentioned witchcraft, and he probably deals with it in Kenya. Taking things out of context? How about spending more time on Obama's pastor that want to DAMN AMERICA!?! It's in the vidoe!

  • Posted By: PastorGC @ 10/29/2008 8:22:11 AM

You have got to be kidding me! This article is absurd for so many reasons!

    1) 95% of the beliefs reported here is true of main-stream Christianity, though the authors want it to sound frightening.

    2) The 5% that is less main-stream is still not as radical as Pastor Wright, Obama's pastor and "uncle" for 20 years.

    3) Palin is running for VP, not President. Obama is running for president. Newsweek needs to focus on the front of the ticket, and his questionable beliefs.

    4) Past presidents such as Ronald Reagon and Jimmy Carter have held similar beliefs as Sarah Palin.

I am getting sick and tired of the left wing being critical of everything the right says and does. Jesus cast out demons when He walked the earth and gave us power to do the same. Satan has been given power as the prince of the air and over the earth in these days and will have these powers until Jesus comes back. We need all the praying and laying on of hands we can get until this time. I am Pentacostal and believe very much in the power of laying on of hands and prayer. All of you who think we are nuts will have to get on your knees and bow to the supreme Almighty in the near future and admit you were wrong.

    • Posted By: Bizet @ 10/29/2008 8:21:19 AM

kat3, you are right on!!!!!!!! NEWSWEEK is failing rapidly--many are canceling their subscriptions.
My God,m i can't believe they printed this. Are they totally nuts? Yeah, I guess they are, and they are helping the Dems lose the election -- at least it's possible. We Christians do not like this sort of junk. Evidently whoever wrote this article is an atheist.

  • Posted By: The Right Way @ 10/29/2008 8:20:45 AM

Wow all of you zelouts out there had better watch out. Talk about witchcraft. You all are quoting lines from a book called the bible and scaring a lot of people. Remember that witchcraft is the ability to be controlled by something or somebody. You all are controlled by a belief that it's your way or no way. Unfortunately most of you don't see the big picture. You want four more years of Republicans taking the country down. Jimmy Carter was a christian and was unable to control any of the worlds problems because he wanted to use peace as a weapon instead of the strength of the military.
