I think someone should have Sarah Palin address the disconnect between her profession of faith as a Christian and her opposition to "spreading the wealth." Does she not hold the scripture as authoritative in her life? Acts 4: 34-35,"There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. The laid it at the apostles' feed, and it was distributed to each as any had need." Or consider Jesus' words, Matthew 5:40-42,"...if anyone wand to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well...give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wnats to borrow from you." In the face of Scpriture, how does Sarah Palin justify her this-is-mine-I-worked-for-it-and-you-can't-have-any-of-it attitude?

Probably because she does not believe in waste. She can probably chose better where her money can be used the they government. If you give it to the government and most is wasted where is the help. It you give to others who you know are in real need or to a reputable charity your money will go much further to help others. Jesus never said giving had to be only to the government.

you know...i dont really recall alot about jesus saying much about "government"...and im not sure he envisioned america 2000 years ago...and im pretty sure he envisioned his (gods will) religion to be 1 denomination...not 30 and counting, protestants included...get back to your busy work day maam...80 hrs a week, 40 spent blogging on the internet, reloading the page after each post waiting for someone to say something to/about you...tisk tisk...

and it seems your quite good at it...ever think you attack people in a non offensive way? that is possible, with sneer little comments and one liner interjections...

i would never try to silence you, in fact ive asked numerous times to rebuke my facts and opinions...i wish for conversation from anyone. i get into heated political/religious debates with friends, family, coworkers, employees and strangers all the time and in the end we are still friends and family. its the same with you. i dont hate you, i dont wish ill will towards you and yours. this is a discussion forum, and your not discussing, your interjecting and making claims and such and not attempting to back it up with anything... just that your right and thats it. i admit when im wrong

and here it is....what i said was wrong, and it was offensive and i sincerely apologize...thats part of who i am from time to time and in the end there is no excuse for it. im sorry.

Thanks, I don't mean to offend either. I do actually get out a good bit. I live in PA Dutch Country, although I am not really from here. Most people here are not very forthright with their feelings. I did not grow up that way but have gotten out of touch with spirited debate as that is generally frowned upon. Have a great day!

and i must ask again, what was so nasty? how do you live life thinking that what i said was nasty? with all the problems and REAL hate in the world...you must not get out much...

You are right on, Jane. This is exactly what we are to do with our wealth, give, give, give. Let's not forget about the woman who gave out of her poverty! This woman was the greatest in Jesus eyes!

For those who have mentioned that Religion and Government should not be mixed:

The U.S. government was based on Judeo-Christian values whether you think so or not. Equality in the constitution was based on the biblical concept of equality. If you want to separate our Constitution and Christianity, forget it. The Bible is ingrained in the Constitution and is it's foundation of those that wrote it.

Nimodahooligan- It might be better for you to understand WHY Jesus said anything at all about GOD'S WILL.
You honestly believe that God wants NOTHING to do with our government? Our Lord God who leads us in ALL aspects of life? Wow...now I am ashamed at your ignorance. And you make me sick with your nasty response, and in the case -what are YOU doing here wasting your time? (of course only gives more credit to your ignorance)

    Dbbmdd,
I give no credit to your sources. You clearly don't understand Christian faith and have not read the responses in this post, if you did you wouldn't feel the need to post those links which do nothing for your case.

    Freemason33,
Much of your information is entirely false. Most everyone knows that MOST of the mainstream media is LIBERAL. And had you been reading the responses on this matter, you would have faith in what was meant and not take it out of context!

The point is valid that this country was founded on religious values, but here is the problem with that statement: A. saying that we have not separated from those values in the past is not entirely true, and B. that we will not or could not in the future, also, not entirely true. The most emblematic example is slavery. The Bible was misquoted or distorted often in the justification of this act; but for over a hundred years, slavery was socially acceptable. Times change, people change, and it became overwhelming recognized that slavery was an unjust, disgusting, and most certainly un-Christian act. I think that point that some people are making on this blog, or at least the problem they have with Palin, or a fear as some call it, is that times are continuously changing, and we cannot continue to refer to the Bible or use the Bible to defend our constitution. In order to maintain our position as the most powerful nation in the world, we have to change with the times, and that may mean abandoning some of our more traditional values. Because even if we do not, the rest of the first world will, and we will continue to be left behind. Look at countrys like Iran, where 30 years ago they were considered a rather progressive country in the Middle East region. When the Ayatollah gained supreme power, and a more strictly religious creed was injected into their constitution- well, I do not know if I need to explain more, they are now considered an axes of evil, when they were once one of our allies. Not to say that we are to become the next Iran, but I would argue that there are people on this site, and definitely in this country, that are very concerned about Palins strong religious affiliation and what it can do to our country.

    • Posted By: HelenaM @ 10/29/2008 2:14:31 PM

Several of our country's founding fathers were atheists and came to this country for religious freedom which you know includes freedom from religion as well, which is why they specifically wrote the separation of church & state wording. Why should they be separate - how about the Holy Wars, the Jewish holocaust, and witch-burnings for starters? AND, as you are free to believe as you wish, you are not free to force that belief on others. Many people are not Christians and never will be. We just wish you peeps would stop trying to throw your god/beliefs in everyone's faces all the time. It breeds contempt, hatred, intolerance, and the inevitable violence. And if you don't know what I'm referring to, you are in desperate need of a history lesson.

People who "throw" their "religion" in your face are only trying to save you from going to Hell. As Christians, our mission is to spread God's Word and love. However, some "christians" take the wrong approach to this.

        Name them.

    • Posted By: wendydk @ 10/29/2008 2:05:14 PM

      WRONG

The U.S. Constitution is a wholly secular document. It contains no mention of Christianity or Jesus Christ. In fact, the Constitution refers to religion only twice in the First Amendment, which bars laws "respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," and in Article VI, which prohibits "religious tests" for public office. Both of these provisions are evidence that the country was not founded as officially Christian.

The Founding Fathers did not create a secular government because they disliked religion. Many were believers themselves. Yet they were well aware of the dangers of church-state union. They had studied and even seen first-hand the difficulties that church-state partnerships spawned in Europe. During the American colonial period, alliances between religion and government produced oppression and tyranny on our own shores.

One of the principles driving the founding of this country was religious freedom. Maintenance of that over time requires a separation of church and state. One cannot have religious freedom when the laws discriminate in favor of one strain of faith. Electing a person like Palin who would not maintain that separation and whose primary right wing appeal is that church must take over state would relegate the US to be mirror images of various middle eastern countries with religion dominating the state and virtually zero rights for citizens outside of religious dictums. What next? 21st century Crusades? Never mind that this unlearned, untraveled woman does not have the statesmanship and diplomatic background for the job.

if you dont then you are no better than the authors because your substituting YOUR opinion for fact...are you not? or are you in a better position to judge whats fair and right because you hold yourself to high standards and you dont need to answer to me?

What the person who I was replying to had to say was opinion. I responded with my opinions. You somehow ask me to prove my opinions while giving the person who first responded with only opinions a pass. I never stated my were facts. Then you ask me what six/seven times in a very short time to prove my opinions. They are opinions. Everyone has one. I don't know why you are so bothered by me stating my opinion. Last time I looked we lived in a free country. Obviously you seem troubled let's substitute that for angry. If you have been offended by my postings rest assured I do not have it out for you in anyway. We just disagree. And that ok. We can it is a free country. Maybe everyone should lighten up and not take themselves so seriously. Life is too short. I really really hope you have a great life. Good luck!

Obama has 63 Nobel Laureates working on his policy team. They are developing a plan to push America back to the top. Who is responsible for McCain's planning? Americans would be shocked to find that Douglas Holtz-Eakin is the sole person responsible for planning McCain's policy for America's future. Holtz-Eakin is also McCain's economic advisor, filling two full time positions on McCain's team. How can one single man (an economist) be responsible for developing a viable technology plan for our future? Obama has an enormous pool of the most intelligent, talented men and women in America working for him. Soon, they will be working for US.

And let's not forget that the McCain campaign spent more on Palin's makeup artist than it did on it's foreign policy advisor. When you pay your makeup artist DOUBLE what you pay your foreign policy advisor, it is time to start examining your priorities.

You look just fine without makeup, John. And Sarah is young enough not to need any. So cut the crap, and start paying some good ECONOMIC ADVISORS so you can have a fiscal plan to present to America. We're in the middle of a huge global financial meltdown, and you are worried about hair and makeup? PLEASE start worrying about the middle class, John. Please.

John McCain has a lot more experience and knows much more without using advisors than that empty suit Barack Obama. Barack Obama is just a puppet for someone else. NOBAMA!!!!! NOBAMA!!!!!

kaj-pagan: I appreciate your directive on how "good" Christians ough to view "these freaks," as you call them (I assume you are referring to "bad" Christians). Since, as a mindless drone, I can't think for myself, this is very helpful. But I'm sure it will not surprise you to learn that you have now confused me even more. Please help me understand: if Christianity is bogus to begin with, what difference does it make whether those adhering to it are "good" or "bad"? If there is no God, what difference does it make who hijacks Him? And I still can't understand this disproportionate fear of and hostility toward those of us who are inferior in intellect and substance. Where's the love?

Just want to say that Obama-worship has really become cult-like. People just put their blind faith in him and listen to all his words. Everything he says is "gold" & "truthful" & "factual." No self-analysis of Obama's words. The amount of money put into his campaign is also cultish - like all those who give everything to their leaders because they think their leaders know how to spend their money & and have better things to spend their money on than the people themselves. Consider Obama's ostentatious DNC backdrop. Did he really need to spend the $$$$$$ for that? Does he need to spend millions on his thousands of TV ads & other ads? Does he need to take his costly private jet for his own personal use? Does he need to spend the $3.5-$4 million on his 30-minute "all about me" informercial? This is sickening. Wake up, people. This is how he will spend YOUR money when he can get his hands on the billions of tax revenue. All for his own self-advantage & the advantage of those whom HE chooses to give to. Truly SICKENING!!!

You're scaring most of us, Ksilbo1. But you provide an important reminder.

Certitude and fervor that a faith is the correct one gave us the Inquisition, as only one example. Religious 'faith' gave us witch hunts in America.

Then the Founding Fathers banned religion from government.

Your christian friends and mine must go to very different churches. Nastiness in any real christian in not valued. Sorry they have to resort to such name calling. Does not reflect on me, just them. Maybe they would like to share these comments with their pastors/priests to see how well it fits in with their "religion". It is amazing to me that people who do not believe in the bible quote the bible and the only scripture they know is "THE JUDGING" scripture. If you are so adament that this is true scripture (all scriptures is the inspired Word of God, by the way) then why do you not believe the rest of it. Also, you might want to learn what the context is of the scripture that you are quoting. CONTEXT RULES!

and im sure your another religious scholar here to say something...ive read the old testament, and the new, king james, book of john....and they are great books. but the material is not to my liking...sorry...i dont think many other christians understand them either...but they also act like they do...next...

            • Posted By: NPeters @ 10/29/2008 3:19:14 PM

No my friend, I'm far from a scholar.....I'm just a sinner saved by grace. Not here to judge you....it's not my place. The bible says that God will judge the unbeliever. My place is to pray that the scales that cover the eyes of the unbeliever will be lifted. Faith is not always easy but if it's just the same with you and all the others I think I will play it safe and err on the side of caution. If I'm wrong what do I have to lose? If I'm right, God help the unbeliever.

              • Posted By: nimodahooligan @ 10/29/2008 4:31:03 PM

it sounds like you live life half by fear and caution, and half by faith... i will live my life as i am...in control of my own life, answer to no one but myself, and in control of my own destiny...that sounds alot better than "fearing god", "god fearing" and being afraid to live a good life all on your own without a preist or book telling you what to think and beleive, and especially having someone "watching me from above"... i get enough of that with my boss and all the other christians that look down on me for being a non-believer...

                • Posted By: NPeters @ 10/29/2008 4:44:58 PM

Nope, not looking down on you. That's the beauty of a God-given free-will. You choose to follow or not. But, be sure to look me up on Judgment Day. You might get "I told you so, Joe".....nah, too serious a matter for that. God Bless!

                  • Posted By: nimodahooligan @ 10/30/2008 10:14:32 AM

i wasnt saying you were, apologies if i came across that way....thats the kind of treatement many people are used to...you seem genuine. bless you too...

        • Posted By: paproudmom @ 10/29/2008 3:02:10 PM

The bible actually takes about making a right judgment.

    • Posted By: nimodahooligan @ 10/29/2008 1:17:15 PM

both parties are guilty...i hold myself accountable...now stop judging me...haha

It appears that she was raised pentecostal. Flipping a light switch does turn a light off, but flipping from a pentecostal church does NOT turn the pentecostal light off, so to speak. As far as pentecostals, they do have some weird belief systems based on their interpretation of the mythological books. She, in my opinon, would make a fantastic televangelist. Beyond that, she can make a lot of money as one. With all that money, she can pretty much fuse the church and state together. And in one fail swoop, compromise our beautiful constitution. So, it seems with Falwell, Dobson, Graham etal being "boys" it seems a "gal", a hockey mom needs to run the program.

waynelaw78...actually, my last comment was too flip...what truly frightens me is the hijacking of the Christian God for political purposes...any good Christian should be outraged by this article....that's just my not so humble opinion.

  • Posted By: waynelaw78 @ 10/30/2008 11:36:56 AM

kaj_pagan: Please help me understand. You have concluded that you are more intelligent, more enlightened, more compassionate, more rational, more progressive -in fact, simply superior in every way - than those of us who claim Christian faith. If true, then why are you so frightened? With these kinds of built-in advantages over we knuckle-dragging, backward, bigoted dopes, I can't imagine what it is that you could psooibly be afraid of.

Man, this is unbelievable. The media spends every day of their lives attacking and putting Sarah Palin under the political microscope. Her religion, her beliefs, her votes, her actions as Governor. But a second rate Senator from Illinois does not get the least amount of scrutiny for his religion, his beliefs, his votes. his action (or inaction as the case may be) in the United States Senate. What up, homey, what up? This is called media propaganda and manipulation. If the media can keep you focused on half truths about Palin, they have successfully kept you from focusing on the flaws of Obama. Oldest trick in the book.

    • Posted By: jiml1956 @ 10/28/2008 11:14:49 PM

Where were you 6 months ago when Clinton and the other Dems were trying to bring him down during the primaries.

The difference is that Palin has never gone through a national primary.

      • Posted By: Vypurr @ 10/30/2008 10:52:56 AM

Of course Clinton was going to do that... but the point is the liberal media have always supported Obama. They dismiss anything Obama tells them to dismiss, simply by way of dismissing it himself. At the same time, the liberal media can't keep their eyes off trivial nonsense like Palin's hair, makeup, shoes and religion. It's blatantly obvious that she is a diversion to keep the focus off of having to report on anything that might hurt their darling!

        Very transparent.

Here is something you blind Democrats should read. "Having secured supreme political power, Hitler went on to gain their support by convincing most Germans he was their savior from the economic Depression, communism, the "Judeo-Bolsheviks," and the Versailles treaty, along with other "undesirable" minorities. The Nazis eliminated opposition through a process known as Gleichschaltung ("bringing into line").

If i wanted to drink the Kool-Aid I would have joined Jim Jones... Geez!!... People get over it and open your eyes. There is so much CRAP being spewed by both parties it's sickening. Wake up!! Palin is a religious fanatic just like Obama is a Muslim terrorist...; Neither statement is true it's just how much BS and Kool-Aid are you willing to accept or drink to make you feel better about yourself...

People in case you have not noticed Jesus was a revolutionary, he was a communist, he rallied against the establisment who in his eyes exploited his people. It's funny to see how Republicans love money so much and exploit people so much (big corporations), and here they are calling themselves christians, and not only that to say that they are the only ones with clear reason. This just goes to show you how religion can be used to control not liberate people. You have got to learn how to think for yourself not as the established government commands you to. Jesus said that the last ones (the poor...) will be the first in the kingdom of heaven. Everything has to be in moderation.

    • Posted By: paproudmom @ 10/29/2008 12:32:53 PM

Excuse me but you seem to know nothing of Jesus. Maybe reading the New Testament would help.

      • Posted By: nimodahooligan @ 10/29/2008 1:55:42 PM

i get this strange feeling you dont know anything about jesus besides what you read, and ohhh 100% of the bible that he didnt write a word of. he spoke, people wrote, and there is always a few miscommunications when that happens... ....or did he stop by last week for the neighborhood barbeque? did he give you the latest gossip from the man upstairs?? was it titilating? ooo it must have been...

        • Posted By: paproudmom @ 10/29/2008 3:06:54 PM

Well unless Jesus has appeared to a person personally, they would only know Him by what they have read. Have you talked to Him lately?

          • Posted By: nimodahooligan @ 10/30/2008 10:44:39 AM

no i havent, not recently...but from what i hear he must be angry with his flock

Your White Christ was an ordinary human being albeit a good one but not a God... And he was strung out on a cross not to save mankind (oh how touching!) but because he was seen as a criminal.. If he was truly guilty or innocent is beyond me but the fact is that as Nietzsche said "God is dead!"

            • Posted By: paproudmom @ 10/29/2008 6:31:50 PM

I am not buying what your selling. Maybe a different audience would be more receptive.

              • Posted By: AzraelDarkAngel540 @ 10/30/2008 8:59:33 AM

You don't need to buy what I'm not selling.. I'm not trying to sell anything... This is the spirit of the argument.. I'm just tired of the endless bigotry perpetuated in the name of this God, of which I've had my fair share... So if I seemed arrogant to you I apologise... I've been trying to understand for ages, ever since I was sick and almost at death's door... I just can't be brought to believe, what I see before me does not convince me.. Hope you understand my predicament... What does faith mean to you? I'll try my best to understand...

Let's review our choices. We can vote for a white woman who is non-racist follows a black Pastor who wants to get rid of evil and protect the United States of America or we can follow a racist anti-semetic black man who follows a black Pastor who wants to tear down the United States of America. Do the people at Newsweek think that we are stupidand they can manipulate this election???

I am really enjoying these moments as I watch the fall of the Corrupt Republican empire. I will really enjoy seeing McCain give is speech conceding to Obama. I will enjoy watching Stevens doing he Perp walk. I will enjoy watching the many Republican senators traded out for Democrats. I will enjoy watching Obam redistributing the wealth. I will enjoy listening to Republicans complain about Obama as he reinvest in the middle class, I can't wait to see the exodus of Republican cronies out of DC.

Will you also enjoy watching employers leave the country? Here's an interesting question, have you ever worked for a poor person, or a company that is barely able to stay out of the red? It's not fun.
