The sooner the fundamentalists in this country are nuetralized, the better

So what you are saying is do away with the document that insures freedom od speech? Are you saying that they cannot voice their opinion even if it is disgusting and crude? Only the message you agree with should get through? What a great county this will become.

Every knew these idiots were going to surface. Using it as a reason to restrict a fundimental right is a even worse fear. This county is going down rapidly. For the first time in my life I am looking to move out as I see no hope for this wekfare third world country.

No one is trying to regulate freedom of religion, but that statement about them being neutralized in the political arena - at least as far as trying to create laws with religious arguments - is completely true.

The SAME CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOM both establishes freedom of worship and the requirement that it not influence lawmaking. "Congress shall make no law respecting an institution of religion" - the Establishment clause of the First Amendment.

Congress cannot abolish or regulate any house of worship.

It also cannot institute any law put forth by any house of worship.

The more I read on these boards, the more I'm convinced that most of our current problems stem from an education failure.

Civics is dead. It is buried next to Forensics, History, Speech and other classical liberal education.

Racists are scum. To vote against a political candidate because of his race is un-American. Voting for a political candidate because of his race is also un-American and racist.

wow, brydges!!! You seem to be a changed person from the other day. Good job bud.

Why do you state that neo-nazis are "far-right" people. Republicans consider them to be far-left activists. Perhaps Obama's ideas of communism for America are too brutal for even these groups. How much money is Newsweek getting from the Obama campaign? 50, 60 million? Looking forward to that article.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 10/30/2008 12:17:17 PM

You mean you are willing to admit that the GOP is to the Right of the American Nazi Party? Wow.

    • Posted By: JMODERATE @ 10/30/2008 12:13:13 PM

Yeah...I bet the Obama's and the Clintons have loads of neo-nazi pals. Gee, there is nothing more admirable than a bunch of poorly educated, poor ol pitiful me rednecks shooting automatic weapons in the woods and preaching hate while a Christian Cross sits above the camp HQ. Ha

I am a Vietnam Vet and I remember how I was treated, by the very people we were sworn to protect and how we were denigrated and maligned by the Democrat Congress, every time I came back to the USA. I know every single Veteran from that era remembers also, you just do not want to express the outrage that is still there. The very same Democrats are in control of Congress today, the names have changed but they are still the same. The vermin that maligned us then are now in Colleges and Universities across this nation teaching our children their perverted view of this country as well as the Rats in congress looking down their collective noses at our children serving in the Military. It is time for every single Veteran to stand up and voice the rage and repudiate these individuals, every item in the Liberal agenda as well. I did my duty, I did not take my oath lightly then and I do not take it lightly now. I am sick and tired of liberals, their ideas, their plans for our country, their complete disrespect for what our country is and what it stands for. I know you are also. It is time to put these vermin in their place once and for all.

    • Posted By: Palin who? @ 10/30/2008 12:16:44 PM

Stillontheroad, thank you for your service in defense of our country. However, I do strongly disagree with your view on the liberal agenda. Only 8 out of the last 32 years have been Democractically run, how can you say you are tired of the liberal agenda when Clinton is the most liberal president we've had recently? we are in the mess we are now because of Dubbya, HE is responsible for the soldiers that have been killed in Iraq, HE could have taken premptive steps to avoid the economic doom we are in right now. I love this country as much as anyone but the corruption and lies have come from the right. If you have not done so, you should watch a new documentary out about Lee Atwater called Boogeyman. It's very interesting to learn about how the Republican party has been installing FEAR into the American public (especially the uneducated and minority populations). Thank you again for your service and if you give O'bama a chance, things will begin to improve, especially American Unity which is at it's lowest point ever.

"The very same Democrats are in control of Congress today, the names have changed but they are still the same. "

This is what's completely and angrily wrong about your post. Stop thinking of those who've wronged you and get yourself out of the past.

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 10/30/2008 12:14:07 PM

Why not blame me for the Great Depression and Spanish-American War while you're at it? There are a LOT of young blue voters today who had nothing whatsoever to do with Vietnam. We weren't even alive then. You need to realize that the Democratic Party of today - like the Republican Party - is very different from the institution it used to be.

And by the way - all calling me "vermin" does is convince me to dislike you as intensely as you dislike me. But it didn't start out that way. I don't disparage anyone for their views until they start using words like "vermin" to describe me. I have done none of the things you accuse all Democrats of, and your hatred towards me is completely unfounded and unfair.

    • Posted By: JMODERATE @ 10/30/2008 11:58:45 AM

Well, as a Vet I never saw that personally. Yes there was a lunatic fringe that may have said/did reprehensible things. The great majority of Nam protesters just wanted the war to end. All your hype about being treated so badly is mostly BS. I suppose you had a grand ol time in Name then.

I was thinking, if the White Supremacist groups "galvanize" as one author suggest might happen it Obama is elected, then I say good - THEN WE CAN TAKE THEM OUT ALL AT ONE TIME!

  • Posted By: lmillerj3 @ 10/30/2008 11:55:45 AM

Why don't we just call the "extreme right" and "extreme left" for what they are...mindless bastions of evil with no inhibitions of implementing their evil against all who disagree with them. I take offense at being "grouped" with such elements as these because my leanings don't agree with someone from the other side. I will stand for what I believe in...but I'm not going to kill you for disagreeing. Vote your mind and shut your name calling mouth.

"Forgive them, Lord, they know not what they do."

  • Posted By: rscalzo @ 10/30/2008 12:02:31 PM

I really think the press has run out of things to say about either side and has resorted to coming up with just about anything to say. Like the holds during the older space shots. Fill up an hour or so with useless background info. The media has avoided giving out "hjust the facts" for so long that urban ledgens are the name of the game.

99 percent of what has been said about both candidates is bs. I don't agree with Obama's platform but I don't think he is a the devil either.

The idiot loudmouths want their 15 minutes of fame but few have the balls to do anything to get it. Some will try but taking that position you know someone will try. It's a fact of the job. If it wasn't, we wouldn't have the Secret Service.

While groups like these are not in the same league as Al Qaeda they are nevertheless terrorists who must be monitored at all times. Unfortunately they are ignorant, have free access to guns and other ammo, and a death wish to be famous at any cost. A deadly combination.

Skinheads to kill 88 black students
      McVeigh killed hundreds
      KKK lynchings
      Need I say more

  • Posted By: ConstitutionalLiberty @ 10/29/2008 10:00:06 PM

You should be ashamed of yourself, discredited by Newsweek and ostracized by your peers for drawing such a ridiculous comparison between Al Qaeda and white supremacist (skinheads). Al Qaeda groups have been linked to thousands of murders, including the >3000 people who were killed in the WTC massacre. Perhaps this could have been written off as amusing conjecture if it were an OpEd, but allowing this headline in a news article is simply, sad.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 10/30/2008 12:00:19 PM

And a Neo Nazi wants to pick up where Hitler left off, which was 6,000,000+jews 28,000,000+Eastern Europeans, and a few hundred thousand US Servicemen.
So Al Qaeda has some catching up to do, as far as body-count comparisons.
Neither group are good. I frankly am far more concerned with the fringe right. A Muslim can not take a dump in Pakistan without getting a hellfire missile shot at him. A Neo Nazi will likely be involved in an act of political violence here.

  • Posted By: jath123 @ 10/30/2008 8:42:55 AM

"Not all Musilms are terrorists, but so far all the terrorists have been Muslim." That was the often repeated "logic" of the Right immediately following 9/11. What the Right apparently didn't grasp was that prior to 9/11, the largests terrorist attack in the US was performed in Oklahoma Citty by rightwing white Christians named Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. Homegrown terror is real threat.

Regarding comments below by "tinyt".... you claim the big boss white man is the ultimate source of drugs in the US. You couldn't be more wrong. The cocaine comes from Mexican and Columbian drug cartels (the big boss Latino man?) from the fields to the street , and the heroin is overwhelmingly grown by Afghan farmers and then transported to the US by various European criminal elements (Russian, Albanian, etc.). The world is bigger than black vs. white.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 10/30/2008 11:51:24 AM

The radicals of the 60's were mostly white. The Unibomber was white. A majority of mass murderers and serial killers are white.

Unfortunately, when you lance a wound, you get pus. On the brink of the first African American to become president, did you really think the crazies weren't going to pour out of the woodwork? A racist backlash is inevitable, all part of the healing process. The only way to defeat racism is to expose it.

Even without a presidential election involving a black candidate, there are so many in this country quick to point fingers at minorities when the economy goes sour.

The blogs are full of people pointing fingers at the number of morgage loans made to minorities as the reason we have a mortgage crisis. Somehow, they miss the obvious - it was greedy people on Wall Street that sliced, diced and packaged the adjustable rate mortgages into credit swaps. and it was greedy people on Wall Street that gave these ridiculous things good credit ratings.

Asking banks to lend to minorities is not what gave us the housing crisis - greedy rich people is what gave us the housing crisis. And the reality is that greedy rich people are predominantly white.

Do the skinheads pose a bigger threat to American stability than Al Queda? How do you measure 'bigger'?

Hate, in all it's guises, is and always will be the biggest threat to American stability. No matter what form it comes in.

    • Posted By: Palin who? @ 10/30/2008 11:49:19 AM

It's too bad that the majority of Republicans do not see it this way. I was talking to someone on here yesterday that thought Bush had been doing the best thing for the economy in 50 years (moron). When you are in a position with money and power, it's easy to point the finger at minorities. Since they're all illegal and poor, they have to be doing something wrong, right (view of right extremists)? Do you know any independent research links that have good info on what Bush has done to our now dreadful economy?? Good post.

  • Posted By: notoosober @ 10/30/2008 9:35:48 AM

Im sorry, but arent the republicans basically nazis? Correct me if I am wrong, but the two parties stand for a lot of the same things. They both discriminate against other races, they both are intollerent of homosexuals and they both only care for the wealthiest group.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 10/30/2008 11:48:44 AM

Nazi is a particular form of fascism. There was also Spanish fascism, Italian fascism, Japanese fascism, and yes, now American Fascism.
The Neo Nazis are just fellow travellers.

  • Posted By: thisisnotamerica @ 10/30/2008 1:10:14 AM

I hope we're including the Bush/Cheney fascists in the use of the term "Neo Nazis."

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 10/30/2008 11:48:38 AM

Nope, that kind of intolerance is based on nationalism instead of race mostly.

  • Posted By: Omnius @ 10/30/2008 9:52:40 AM

These Neo Nazi Skinheads are the greatest threat to our secular democracy because they are the threat within. The "Neo Nazi" Bush administration hasn't bothered to crack down on these nutcases because they voted for him. It's way past time to round up these domestic terrorists and put them in prison where they should rot. Great article Mark and Micheal! About time some courageous reproters take this story to the public.

      • Posted By: Braes @ 10/30/2008 11:46:48 AM

Not German, but of a fascist Ideology for sure. Secret prisons, Torture, Propaganda, Sturmablietung, Suspension of Habeus Corpus without insurrection, Suspension of the 4th, 5th, and 8th Amdendments, Intimidation and infiltration of lawful assemblies, etc.
You confuse German with Fascism, and the Neo Nazi movement in the United States. Look up Elohim City. Look up Richard Snell.

      • Posted By: summer4077 @ 10/30/2008 11:42:36 AM

Are you serious? McVeigh set off a bomb at a government building that killed hundreds of innocent people, including children. OJ killed his ex and her lover in a fit of jealous rage. Sure, he should be behind bars or on death row, but the comparison is absolutely ridiculous. Seems to me there are way more white terrorists than blacks. McVeigh, Waco, the shoe bomber, etc.

  • Posted By: Omnic @ 10/30/2008 11:38:46 AM

Fundamentalist Christians are just as bad as any fundamentalist Islamic group. The sooner the fundamentalists in this country are nuetralized, the better. November 4 should show the world what happens to fundamentalists.
