I think the shoe throwing by the Iraqi journalist was a sign to Bush and those in his ilk like Gordon Brown that their actions against Iraq, and for that matter other nations did not go well with the people. The stupid and simplistic joke by Bush about the size of the shoe just shows the kind of contempt such heinous leaders have towards other people.

I think the journalist is a brave man who used the only opportunity and weapon available to him to show the mighty and powerful that even the most powerless can defend themselves.

Though the action did no harm to Bush, it has caught the attention of the world and people all over the Internet are now throwing their shoes at Bush to demonstrate the kind of hatred and contempt they have towards him.

I am sure this contempt is not towards all Americans or the West at large but towards Bush and his spanner boy Gordon Brown.

Even though Bush joked about it, I am sure deep inside him the pain must have been too much to bear within. But it was a good sendoff to the man who has run down the world???s economy.

I know that the man of the people, president-elect Barack Obama shall be a really different man from the outgoing Bush whose intention has never been good to the rest of the world.

Clinton is a great choice! It shows that Obama is serious about getting the best people, and that he is not threatened re: being overshadowed by a strong, powerful personality.

Clinton is an intelligent, tough, hard-working individual who is well-regarded on the world stage. Her campaign efforts on behalf of Obama made it crystal clear that she is a team player.

I hope this becomes official soon so all the navel gazing can end!

I think Lugar is too old, though a great man. Al Gore is just not the right fit for the SOS job. Richardson I just don't feel would be that great for the job, and dear God not Kerry, just no. Hillary and Holbrook are wise choices. Hillary is tough. We have had three touch women in this position in the last 16 years. But while tough Hil can be charming too and she is very smart. Holbrook is a very wise man also. I hope Obama and his team doesn't pay too much attention to race/gender criteria. While improtant the next SOS needs to be a super negotiator, firm, yet crafty regardless of there genitic makup for political reasons. My $.02

It seems unfathomable to me, that a person with a past of associations with a myriad of questionable entities and characters, of whom no one, outside of a personal circle of friends, has any inkling of a true history, could be now in line for the highest office of the land. Be it by chance or by design, it falls to the American voting public to ferret out the true political agenda of all the candidates, so as to safeguard and preserve the integrity of the position to which they aspire. The very lack of information with respect to a candidates past, should give sufficient pause, when considering their worthiness. To otherwise neglect to properly vet or exercise one???s personal due diligence, is a travesty to the principals for which our country has always stood. The majority has failed to perform their duty to this country, and have elected the enemy.

Fiver positions--17 candidates--ONE WOMAN??? What happened to equality? Or did that all go out the door when the party bosses squelched the most qualified candidate? I voted for him, but he'd better not make me hold my nose for the rest of his term.

It is interestiong that Newsweek practices a level of journalism that reduces critial political appointments to "Book Making" odds and has such a high a mighty position on the issue of activities between consenting adults.

It is actually curious to the point of moral inconstincy.

i think John Kerry should be the speaker of the house. I hope Obama sees what a great thing that would be.

    • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 11/10/2008 5:13:43 PM

The president of the United States is head of the executive branch. The legislative branch has two parts - the Senate, and the House of Representatives. The president cannot make appointments to the legislative branch.

The presiden can only nominate (suggest) members for offices in the executive branch, those nominations are then confirmed (or not) by the Senate..

John Kerry is currently a senator, and therefore could not be the Speaker of the House, and the Speaker is in turn elected by the members of the party who hold a majority in the House.

You may wish to read the Constitution and brush up on current events before making any more suggestions.

Just like you and everyone else, but as A American who pays more then An average persons taxes I do have something to worry about for the future.

Obama won the election because of one thing. He is smarter. Forget experience and forget what he fed us. You can have experience and still do the same dumb crap over and over. i.e the fundamentals of our econmony is strong. This guy is black and he became president defeating Clinton, a war hero and a governor. He assembled the greatest campaign ever. He drew crowds and brought along new voters. If he got you out of this mess (war or financial crisis) bipartisan or not who cares. If the policies of the right is not working, I think we need to move left for the scale to start to balance.

    • Posted By: olooto @ 11/06/2008 12:52:52 PM

Great comment, what unite us as a country is far more and better thatn what divide us. A president have to be able to exercise judgement and sorround himself with able and qualified people not with dummies. President Obama is smart and he understands the challenges of our times, and he equally sorrounds himself with qualify and smart people not like Sarah Palin(who cannot remember a newspaper she reads). Obama temprament is A+, he also listens to people around him.

      • Posted By: batman817 @ 11/06/2008 1:21:17 PM

You say Palin can't remember a newspaper she reads...and then you don't spell correctly or use proper grammar to express yourself, sounds even to me...

        • Posted By: crym @ 11/10/2008 1:02:49 AM

I remember seeing the interview Palin did with Katie Couric. The previous poster may not have spelled everything correctly, but Palin did come across as an idiot. She couldn't formulate a cohesive sentence, much less an intelligent and sensible answer.

        • Posted By: crym @ 11/10/2008 12:58:54 AM

The previous comment may be poorly spelled, but it's true. I saw the interview she did with Katie Couric. Sarah couldn't answer the question about where she reads most of her news in an intelligent fashion.

More importantly, President-elect Obama did something that hasn't been done or a while. He sought and became the president of the UNITED STATES instead of the president of 270 electoral votes. Karl Rove's strategy worked for President Bush in 2000 and again in 2004. Senator McCain tried for the hat trick and the country had finally grown tired of that s**t.

I'm amazed at all of the people that somehow have some kind of crystal ball and know what's going to happen over the next 4 years. President-elect Obama has a lot of challenges ahead of him. He may be able to meet them, he may not. I don't know. I'm glad he's getting a chance.

I do know what has happened over the past 8 years. I am displeased. Had Senator McCain won the election it would have been validation of the last 8 years. Perhaps that's an unfair indictment on Senator McCain, but that's exactly what it would have been.

The last 8 years did not earn validation.

No Republicans, again, please! It is clear that, GOP claims to the contrary, Republicans don't have a corner on the qualifications or expertise required to handle national defense. Beneath their mile-wide bellicose streak, they tend to have a dental floss strip of real knowledge. The entire DoD industry needs to be seriously revisited: threat assessments, missions, weapons systems, programs. The US needs to get a grip on the frightful amount of money DoD throws away as a matter of routine funding programs and systems that have been obsolete/unused for 50+ years and/or unrelated to any meaningful purpose other than saving defense-related jobs. Time to re-tool to something purposeful.

General Wesley Clark seems like a good fit to me.

I think Obama should make John Kerry speaker of the house.

    • Posted By: waabep @ 11/09/2008 10:34:50 AM

Nobody wanted Kerry 4 years so why would we want him now? That's like the Clinton's in there again. He brought shame to this country. He broke a 10 Commandment and now that's ok. Where are morals? He is the one who created this whole financial mess. It was the Clinton admin. who said give loans to everyone. SO LET'S PUT ALL THESE SCREW UPS IN THE WHITE HOUSE AGAIN!!!!!!!

  • Posted By: waabep @ 11/09/2008 10:28:43 AM

Ok, I have been reading a lot of comments and some that were made to my blog. Whoever said that Obama is not Muslim is a complete F#%*ing idiot. You are the ones that the democratic government loves because you will believe what they tell you. I bet you can't wait to get another stimulus check from the government. Guess what dumba$$, it has to be paid back somehow. You people who see Obama as some miracle man, wake up, you are obviously wanting to stay on your porch and wait for a handout. You also are ones who think that , Amen, NOW I NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT PAYING MY BILLS AGAIN!!! This is not about race but my goodness, quit expecting a handout. About crime, I have a dear friend who went to New Orleans with Habitat for Humanity to rebuild a house for a black family. The family had nothing. This was not all white people, but mexicans also. The 8 women had all there money stolen from their purses from this family. You see, all people want to help others and it's a shame that crime happens. Read the papers, most crimes are not commited by white people. We have trash in each race. Look at the prisons, who fills them up? All races. Everyone expects a handout. Black people are very racist against white people. You didn't see the white hate groups threatening to commit violence against blacks who wanted to vote like the Black Panthers. To all who think they have the right to threaten or injure anyone, shome on you and may your final resting place not be in Heaven. We all may have our difference in opinions but we are all human being wiht the same color of blood running through our veins. What are we teaching our children, more hate? I didn't vote for Obama because of him being a democrat. Did we really have any good choices? Where are you Mitt Romney?!!!!! Please just accept that Obama is out soon to be president, and as painful as it may be to look at him, 2012 is not too far away and maybe, just maybe people will wake up and realize how big the welfare will be and how high our taxes are. God Bless Ameica

I agree with the article, for Obama to succeed the first year he must delegate the tasks at hand a successful presidency is only as good as his staff. If Obama was to appointment no names to his selections controversy would just bog down his choices look at what the current president had done with the selection of the Fema Leader and the leader???s failure to act during Katrina. Every person considered for cabinet positions should be appointed by the qualifications of what they have, not because there must be more African Americans or Latinos in his cabinet that type of thinking fails in education (busing) and affirmative action.

With just a couple of exceptions your list just looks like a bunch of old white guys. Is that really the "
Change" we voted for? I think we will all be surprised by his picks.

  • Posted By: rosie1950 @ 11/06/2008 7:24:45 PM

This is not a race issue. The american people voted their choice and it was for Obama his skin color is not the issue. The reason I voted for him is he made me beleive that he has the smarts to get us out of the mess we are in. As for any president he alone can not get this done. We have to all pull together and make america what is once was. So lets stop this petty talk and join hands as americans so we can all reach this goal. I am also white but I voted for the man not the color of his skin. God created us all so in his eyes we are all the same.

    • Posted By: mschatterbox @ 11/08/2008 7:10:51 AM

this is not a race issue , as I said two day sbefore and will stand for what I say this is more then ever a race issue Im not sure where you live, but here im in a middle cuty where blacks and whites get along very well up until tuesday there is so much more anomocity, hatred and tension between whites and blacks I must say this is more then ever a race issue, when they did a poll in the deepest part of the hood in harlem and chicago areas they asked majority of black groups to name the policies obama and mccain stood for the could not even distinguish who palin was,,, but the final comment from them was whatever im voting for the black man, even though he is half black im sure if it came down to him choosing more of a race he is it would be black and not white, so honestly do you think they white radicals and anti obama people are going to give him a chance and sit back and accept him being president , No they aren't and each day this goes on and he picks dirty crooked people to fill the spaces in his cabinet are just making them fuming. I live in the Deep South, I am highly educated but at the same time my feelings are strong as with many other people around here, he won ok we got to get over it its only for a short time if he stays in office for 4 years it will be a miracle,,, i read give him a chance give him a chance but he has been priving himself in bad situations and comments he is making just in the last few days of his choosings and his policy he wants to implement .the majority of people who voted for him be black, hispanic, young , gay are not really in touch with the fact of whats going on they just wanted to vote for a man who has a really great way of persuading .. uhh i mean lying to people.

Rediculous! I live in dallas and I am black. Black people do crime, white people do crime and it goes with every race. When's the last time you saw a black man on tv being arrested for trying to visit a 12 year old little girl?? Prolly 50 arrests (of white men) every time they do a sting. No blacks are not the problem. There are bad apples in every demographic.

Long story short. Other minority races are feeling a little jealous. None of you have had it as bad as the black man, none of you have worked as hard and endured as much to get the much desired equality and participation in the ENTITLED American dream that was built on the backs of our ancestors. This counry would not be where it is today without slavery - it is as much our country as it is any american's.

Blacks have the first minority president because we have made a consistent effort to be included and participate in the development of this country. Not a one of us wants to tear it down but there are some that become disenfranchised becuase of the organized effort to exclude.

Thanks to a alot of work and a progressive attitude our white brothers and sisters have accepted the idea how great the benefit of including us and appreciating our participation - nobodies gonna win with the attitude of 'they can't be trusted' - alot of people then take on the attitude of ' I'm gonna make you right about that'. But thanks to our great President-elect we have renewed our belief that this is our country too and others have supported the idea of accepting those that present themselves and participants in society as equals in the effort to make america a better place. So look beyond your surroundings and see a bigger world or you can just stay with the KKK and stick to your small brain world but apparently the mass majority is moving in another direction - you should join, your welcome.
