rollingeyes - get a grip and give me a break. Obama has more patriotism is his little finger than you can imagine. Iconic displays of patriotism that have been given undue importance mean little in the real scheme of things. Case and point in the Bush administration, how patriotic does the country view them right now? I think it's fairly obvious based on the effect that they had on Sen. McCain's campaign. Stop your neo-con knee jerk talk and start showing me what your going to do to help your country, because the nonsense coming out of your mouth does nothing positive for anyone.

Great Job Barracuda! I am originally from NYC and lived in NYS unit 14 months ago - I now live in Tennesse. I guess I lost my ability to think since I moved! Apparently, in your mind, I should also should lose my ability to express my opinion through my vote.

Obama has been elected, and I am interesting in seeing how he performs; but I fear some people will never get over their hate and misery.

    • Posted By: swiftflag @ 11/06/2008 11:10:42 AM

The hate and misery is not caused by the Black man, it is caused by his intrigrity. His Socialistist ways, his friends, the fact we know nothing about this man.

  • Posted By: Wrongplacewrongtime @ 11/06/2008 10:59:58 AM

Since the US Electorate has placed its faith in Barack Obama, I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone on becoming a post-racial society.

What that means to me is that we are now indemnified against further accusations of racism.

Subsequently, I think we can feel justified in calling for dismantling of Affirmative Action programs throughout the nation.

    • Posted By: ebonelocks @ 11/06/2008 11:02:53 AM

But Affirmative Action is not only for African-Americans, so what is your point?

      • Posted By: spearson6 @ 11/06/2008 11:06:47 AM

It was a sad day on Election Day when Nebraska voted to get rid of Affirmative Action! That affects what my mother faught for, my sisters are currently dealing with, and our daughters will have to face in the future! It is not just a race thing!

    • Posted By: ebonelocks @ 11/06/2008 11:05:40 AM

But Affirmative Action is not only for the benefit of African-Americans, so what is your point, exactly?

  • Posted By: nwlibtax @ 11/06/2008 11:06:22 AM

Great Job Barracuda! I was born in NYC, and lived in NYS until 15 months ago. I now Live in Tennesse. I guess I must have lost my intelligence during the move.

Apparently, according to you, I should also lose my right to express my opinion since i now live in the south.

Frankly, I am interesting in finding out how Obama performs, but I am confinident in my compentnency and ability to believe the I will be succeesful regardless of the president.

Get over the hate - vindictiveness will not help this country!

If I was truly like you describe, I would be bitter with regards to the Obama win - I am not.

Yup Colin Powell has my vote :)

  • Posted By: JEDBENSON @ 11/06/2008 9:45:58 AM

HORRIBLE SELECTION BY THE UNEDUCATED YOUNG AMERICAN VOTERS. OBAMA WILL DESTROY OUR FREEDOMS AS WE KNOW IT. THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY HAVE BEEN HOODWINKED BY THE POLITICAL LEFT. THEY BASED THIER SELECTION OF OBAMA BASED SOLELY ON PROPAGANDA SPREAD FORTH THAT STATES "CHANGE" . THE YOUNG AMERICANS GOT EXCITED ABOUT THAT WORD & VOTED ACCORDINGLY. THE ONE THING THEY DONT KNOW IS WHAT THAT "CHANGE" ENTAILS............ JUST WAIT AND SEE........... IT WILL BE SOMETHING !

    • Posted By: MRS B @ 11/06/2008 11:05:59 AM

WAKE UP CALL--Bill Clinton was successfull (big surplus at completion of his term)--so he got a hummer from a political groupie. George Bush used up surplus (created huge deficit) sent many mother's sons off to be executed (for what?) ECONOMIC DEVASTATION--- oh yeah MCCAIN the Maverick (how scary is that)

    • Posted By: eagles1776 @ 11/06/2008 9:58:10 AM

So all those old people who voted for Obama were hoodwinked along with the youngsters eh? How about the African Americans, the Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, Gays, and the few evangelicals that voted for him (Yes there were some) or the women or men between the ages of 25 and 40? Were millions and millions of people hoodwinked? College educated and those barely making it out of high school and everyone in between were hoodwinked? How could this happen to such an enormous number of people? Unless, of course, what is obvious and that is that they weren't hoodwinked at all. Obama was elected by a significant majority of Americans. He won by a landslide. Get over it and live with it. We had to live with 8 years under that abject failure George W. Bush. We don't know what an Obama Administration will bring us. We need to give them a chance and if they fail boot them out. If they do well give them 4 more years.

      • Posted By: _General @ 11/06/2008 10:12:19 AM

i agree with you 100 precent he voted in for all the wrong reason, it wasn't voting in someone best for the job it was voting for history and we are in for big troubles ahead. things happen in three and here is what i think is going to happen he is going to be killed, depression, and then civil war. USA just became a mideast country.

      • Posted By: _General @ 11/06/2008 10:05:31 AM

I AGREE WITH YOU 100 PRECENT THEY VOTED FOR ALL THE WRONG REASON AND IT DID MATTER IF HE WAS FIT FOR THE JOB OR NOT. I BELIEVE WE ARE IN FOR A VERY ROUGH ROAD AHEAD, IF THINGS HAPPEN IN THREE HERE IS MY LOOK AT IT HE WILL BE KILLED, DEPRESSION AND CIVIL WAR WILL BREAK OUT. SO I THINK THINGS ARE GOING TO GET REALY BAD IN FOUR YEARS.

    • Posted By: Willock @ 11/06/2008 9:51:27 AM

Fact check....... Obama won every age demographic except for 65+. It was not just the young voters who voted him in.

  • Posted By: tovotebasedonraceiswrong @ 11/06/2008 9:12:38 AM

How does it feel to have a president voted in based on his race and zero experience? This was the most uneducated race in history.

    • Posted By: intrinsix @ 11/06/2008 9:38:47 AM

tovote, I don't believe this race was won on race alone. I don't care if you're pink with purple polka dots, what we have is someone who has not been in the political circles so long to have been tainted by them who speaks of the desire to change things in a way that will stop focusing on big business and give the country back to the little guys and they delivered those dreams with such passion as to engage the hearts and minds of blacks and whites alike. He's a man with a great idea that HAPPENS to be black. Who cares - it's not about black supremacy it's about that not mattering so much anymore. There are people who are chained to biases of yesterday and I feel sorry for them, but maybe a fresh view from someone who is willing to try to make things better without a huge Washington resume is just what this country needs. You see how well we did with the last few who grew up in Washington, right?

      • Posted By: rollingeyes* @ 11/06/2008 11:05:40 AM

Obama doesnt have a fresh view... He doesnt even support his own Country's Flag or Pledge.. and that should be where it stops right there.. I dont give a crap about anything after that fact was made by him.. If he can not support his Country, Flag or Pledge.. then he is not a true American... I really hate to say this.. but I cant wait to see how a man that does not love his Country or stand by it, is going to run it...

As a Christian, I am excited that Obama pledged to fight for the poor and weak, emphasized the need to be good stewards of our natural environment, and will work to promote the sanctity of life (reduce the number of abortions, uphold a person's innate dignity after birth, abandon the use of torture, strive to exhaust ALL options before considering war, etc.). I don???t agree with all of Obama???s positions, but there is quite a bit of common ground I am unwilling to throw away because of my differing views.

Maybe ???change??? is rhetoric and ???hope??? is an empty promise, but with a war on two fronts, a failing world economy, neighbors loosing their homes, phone tapping, water boarding, and secrecy all as the order of the day, I can???t afford NOT to believe Obama. Seeing the crowds he draws, I don???t think I???m alone.

Obama surrounded himself with intelligent and thoughtful people during his campaign. As president, I have no doubt he will continue to surround himself with capable advisors. And if Obama???s "rhetoric" inspires people to action--isn't that the very definition of a leader?

This is OUR democracy--we cannot expect Obama to do everything for us. Indeed, if we sit idly by, not only will Obama fail, but our country will fail as well. But if we allow the leader we elected to lead us, perhaps we have the chance to make our country great once again.

Please know that Hillary's last "Health Care Reform" proposal made it a crime for either a patient or a doctor to render / accept medical care out of their geographical area. Better read the old documents before getting too excited about that, and I think that there are far better choices for the Supreme Court than Hillary.

I don't care how we all comment and what we all say. America is in trouble and putting all the blame on one person will not solve the problems. There are many who did not do what they should have done. Past and now!!! But I bet if things don;t bounce back Obama will get it all put on him. He will be the only president who must follow through on his promises. Let's help keep the media from feeding off of negative stuff and keep it positive. Time brings about a change. Unit as a people and fix the problem that american people are having. Homeless, hunger, pain, suffering, illiness and war DOES NOT HAVE COLOR THEY EFFECT EVERYONE!!!!! BLESS EVERYONE!!!

I???m so fed up with our corrupt political system after breaking my back for years building my business and fighting from going bankrupt, a bunch of naïve Americans elect an even more naïve career politician, president. I and many of my business partners have decided to pack it in, I???m laying off 50 plus workers starting next month and retiring. No way in hell am I going to pay this numskull???s capital gains tax and run my business into the ground before I can cash out!

    • Posted By: familyguy @ 11/06/2008 9:23:01 AM

You are a moron too!!!!!! It is people like you that ruin the very reason people love America. As a business owner you should respect your workers after all they make you your money. I hope the day before you retire you get hit by a bus, so you can understand what big business does to the workers on a daily basis.

      • Posted By: Clatech @ 11/06/2008 9:43:10 AM

Only an Obama supporter would wish death to someone, that's your skewed mentality. And I'm not a big business that's where you've all been brainwashed into thinking our economy is made up of big greedy businesses. Well more than 50% are businesses are like mine and I love my employees but I'm not going to commit suicide because of your stupid mistake. You voted for a man with no executive experience period!

        • Posted By: familyguy @ 11/06/2008 9:48:19 AM

I'm not asking you to commit suicide I'm saying I hope you get hit by a bus. And when he raises your taxes to the point that you can't afford to stay in business then you can bitch but until then shut up

          • Posted By: rollingeyes* @ 11/06/2008 11:01:58 AM

FAMILYGuy... it's ignorance that voted Obama into office.. and by reading your absurb comments you are full of it...

What is truly moronic is the fact that all of these hourly workers want to drive a lexus like the business owner. We business owners have sacrificed for years to get where we are in life financially. Now we are going to have to give more of it to our workers! I pay my hourly associates very well, however, when this stupidity becomes law I will lower the pay rate of every single employee to make up for it. I have earned the right to reap the rewards from my hard work, not some hourly laborer. If they wasnt a lexus start your own business and then lets see how you feel when the government wants to take it away from you.

          • Posted By: familyguy @ 11/06/2008 10:30:07 AM

Hey idiot if you lower the pay then you'll have no workers and then you'll have no business and then you'll be a part of the workforce. No one said you can't make a living being rich but why can't you pay the employees so that they can make a decent living. You make it sound like making $249,000 instead of $250,000 is going to kill you. If that is the case then I will be thye one driving the bus

      • Posted By: jjnuknut @ 11/06/2008 9:47:21 AM

What is truly moronic is that the hourly labor force wants to afford to drive a Lexus just like the owner. The small businessman has sacrificed for sometimes decades to build a business and should reap the rewards as it prospers. The government should not penalize him for succeeding.

I have listened to Obama make speeches for 21 months where he was always talking about change, but we still don" know what change is. He spoke alot and never said anything. If hecan keep only 10% of what he promised it will be the land of milk and honey. I believe he said anything that he thougt might him elected . He did get elected and time will tell what he is made of. I will give him that opportunity, but he leaves me with some great concerns and I hope he proves me wrong. He is intelligent and I hope he uses his intelligence in the proper manner for the good of the USA. .

Excuse me, but what does biblical statements regarding periods, and adultery, comments about Oprah and nasty remarks about Kerry have to do with these very important choices. If you can't say something intelligent and instructive then get off and go spout it to your neo con friends. Kerry would be an excellent choice for Sec. of State. HIs many years in congress, his two tours in vietnam and his work to stop that war give him the perfect perspective in war and peace. 63% of Mass. voters can't all be wrong. Holbrooke is somewhat adversarial and Lugar has already turned it down. Richardson? I believe he has the calmness needed and we also could use some work on this continent to the south to avoid conflict. I don't know if New. Mexico would want to give him up though.

    • Posted By: spearson6 @ 11/06/2008 10:59:24 AM

I was making a point to someone else who was quoting the bible and how we are ruining our country because Obama believes in things that don't go with the Bible... I was making the point that not everything in the bible goes now and you can't pick and choose what you want to believe from a book that is centuries old!

    • Posted By: proudamerican78 @ 11/06/2008 10:56:32 AM

If 63% of Mass. jumped off a bridge and killed their selves would that make it right????

  • Posted By: ljdaul @ 11/06/2008 9:18:23 AM

Everyone who says Obama opponents are racist are actually racists themselves for saying that. Most people who did not vote for Obama did not have a problem with his color (he is half white anyway!). We did not agree with what he stands for. Notice that two months ago he said the "rich" that was going to be highly taxed would be incomes at $300,000 and above. That has been lowered to $150,000 in just 2 months!!!! That is not "rich" anymore but is "middle class" who he has claimed to protect. He is already stating that instead of trying to help our housing market like he promised, many more foreclosures will happen along with the closing of many small businesses in order to make our country strong again. HUH????? This man has very little experience in politics and is facing huge issues like our economy and war. He even wants to take the American flag out of the oval office and our schools and ban the national anthem from schools. Even dictators like Saddam and Fidel honored their country's flags and anthems. They are symbols of our national pride. Do we now have a President that is not proud of his own country? He never places his hand on his heart during the national anthem and he speaks of unifiying our country! We are doomed!

voiceofmany: You must be from Canada or Great Britian since you spell color "colour". How dare you criticize Americans on their choices!!!!! Also, God is always capitalized.

    • Posted By: yhnbgt @ 11/06/2008 10:59:18 AM

Funny, so if he wasn???t half white it would be a problem, anyway that is not the issue.
Everyone knows politicians go back and forth on issues, he is not the first and definitely will not be the last. I did my research and upper middle class families make a little over $150,000. I am going to use myself as an example, I make close to 6 figures and I was doing pretty fine even when the economy was going to hell I was able to make ends meet with no hassle, so I say to you if those people making over $150,000 have to take a taxcut to help America, that in itself is an act of patriotism. I have friend that have bachelor???s degree and got laid off at the beginning of the year and still has not found a job so if I can do my share to help the economy and create more jobs, so be it.
As for the term patriotism it is commonly defined as love of and/or devotion to one's country. Patriotism consists of notions concerning language, religious traditions, ethics, law and devotion to the common good, rather than ???PURE IDENTIFICATION WITH A NATION-STATE???. There is no definition saying wearing the flag makes you more patriotic than anyone else. I believe everyone knows that in life it is what you do that matters and the President-elect Obama only stated this by saying that wearing the flag is not enough you have to show patriotism by your actions. From what I hear he has not insulted the flag he just stated that he feels that your actions show patriotism and not just the American flag. I believe that it is the PEOPLE that make America not the buildings, not the flag, and no other materialistic things. We use these things to empower ourselves but if we are empowered on our own then so be it; as long as you are proud to be an American.
I will just say we have to unify especially in these times (united we stand, divided we fall), I am hoping for a better America and I believe in my country and its people. One thing I agree with is that MAY GOD HELP US.

I voted for Obama in the primary mainly because I did not want Clintons running the show again. Hopefully our new president will not fill cabinet with members of the Clinton entourage.
