To Tv911: How is that we are strong and capable now? The last 8 years have been a disaster for the nation. Our current president has dragged us into the ground, lied to us, mismanaged our government and placed our military in harm's way for his own misguided priorties. As far as our Constitution and Bill of Rights, Bush, Cheney and company have damaged that long ago. What did you just wake up from an eight year nap? You think this is the wrong choice because it's not YOUR choice.

Obama might, in fact, make a good president; however, he has zippo experience. He was given a senate seat by a political machine. Before that, he was a glorified social worker. Granted, that is not necessarily negative, but a republican with the same credentials would have been the media's whipping boy. Palin has at least some executive background. Anyone who rips Palin's experience and ignores Obama's lack of it is surely just mad at Bush and republicans in general; there is no fairness involved there. For the sake of the country, I hope Obama is effective, patriotic and fair-minded. If he does the party-first routine, he'll be a sorry leader.

I thought my husband was pulling my leg when he told me that Gov. Corzine was being considered for the Secretary of Treasury position. Yup. Because Corzine has done a bang-up job running the State of New Jersey. The man wanted to shut our Department of Agriculture (um, hello?!? It's called the Garden State for a reason) and close major state parks, right before the 4th of July weekend. While it would get him out of Jersey, the man cannot be unleashed on the rest of the country. He'l be wanting to shut down Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon as cost-cutting mesures

Take this from a die-hard liberal:feminism is DEAD.

I have to agree with other posters here. BO won because he brought out all the Black voters. Yes, half of them did not know they had to register first...Many went to the wrong polling booths and most did not even know what the issues were. They were voting because a Black Man was running. Like Hillary said, "Shame on you, Barack Obama". I feel BO is laughing all the way to the White House. I hope I am wrong for our sake but I do not see a good 4 years ahead of us. Canada is opening their doors.

2012 cannot come fast enough for me.

SO YOUR SOLUTION I GUESS IS TO DISENFRANCHISE ALL BLACK PEOPLE AND BRING BACK JIM CROW. BY THE WAY, HOW OLD ARE YOU?

    • Posted By: LawrenceSuperior @ 11/06/2008 10:05:54 AM

your ignorance is only preceded by....more ignorance. The African-American vote was actually pretty much the same as Kerry, its the other demographics ie college-educated Americans (i'm guessing you don't fit into that category).

    • Posted By: yhnbgt @ 11/06/2008 10:51:42 AM

Don't be so naive, when i first saw Obama it was on CNN where a white reporter called him black. So it goes both ways, if they were trying to be different why did they not call him the first bi-racial president after his Tuesday speech?

The man wanted to cut out the Department of Agriculture (um, hello? We are the "Garden State" for a reason) and shut down virtually all our state parks. While it would get him out of Jersey, Corzine can't be unleashed on the rest of the country. He'll be wanting to shut down Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon in an effort to cut costs.

You appear to be illiterate. Please keep in mind the more education you have, the more likely it is that you will not be on welfare draining the tax payers who get up and go to work everyday, as well as, financially raising their own children.

What a poorly written article. These contributors Hirsh, Stone and Paul assume that politic will be the guiding factor in Obama's choice for State. It shows a complete lack of understanding of the man. Highest odds should be given to Richardson. He has been at around 7:2 since Oct. 1, Holbrooke would be next at around 2:1 Lugar at 5:1 and Kerry a 25:1 long-shot. It is no wonder that you get the Member Comments that you do with such poorly researched drivel on your site. de Tocqueville said "you get the government you deserve." Judging from the comments on this board the last eight dismal years make a lot more sense. Maybe this time we just got lucky.

62 millon american voted for change - they voted for the wrong kind of change. They voted for a man with a radical, socialistic ideology who is going to drag our wonderful United States of America into the gorund and damage our Constitution and Bill of Rights. I hope that whatever damage he causes in the next 4 years can be undone. Of course with his "utopian" ideology, "we are the world" mentality, and Big Government policies, we may not be very strong or very capable to do much after America wakes up. Americans lost their liberty with the Bush Administration - his fear mongering, spying, torturing, illegal tactics. The USA has been dragged to the ground....Americans DID wake up two nights ago - they've TAKEN back their country.

Unfortunately, people are making this a black/white issue. They need to stop and get over it!
I didn't vote for Obama because, realisticly, I believe his policies on taxes and health insurance will surely burden the small businesses, if not put them out of business. A small business is typically classified as one with 50 or less employees. And the fewer employees, the higher the insurance because higher the claimes risks. Do the math~ a gross income of 250k will be taxed at 39%. Suddenly, that income has dropped to 152K. Now remove overhead expenses: Business mortgage or rent, property insurance & maintenanc; vehicle and/or equipment purchases, insurance and maintenance; employee health insurance (Obama says you'll be fined if you don't provide); utilities; etc, etc. Then this business man has to provide his own home, utilities and upkeep for his own family. The list goes on. Of course the private worker making 250k won't have near as much expense, but his hard earned money he could be putting away for his kids' futures is being "spread around" in public funding! If they must increase this tax, it should have been on businesses only, more than 100 employees, and those grossing 750K or more. There's plenty of them out there. And, they would still be grossing 450K after the 39% come off the top.
Again and again, Obama said "the average, middle class, person" making 250K or more will be the only ones getting this tax increase. "Average person'? He uses this term loosly! I don't know any "average people" making half this much. If 250K is average, the majority of us are "lower class" or poverty (me included).

A great article. One thing I don't want Warren Buffet as Treasury Secretary because I just don't trust billionaires to do anything but serve themselves. Plus Obama needs to bounce Gates out as Defense Secretary as soon as possible to clean out the stench of the current misadministration. I am confident that Obama will choose truly intelligent people who will put dogma last.

I have 2 words for you, "Nicolae Carpathia". If you have read the "Left Behind" series you know what I am talking about. As far as the new black voters, I give them credit for voting no matter what the reason. But now they will just go back to sitting on their front porches and living off the government.

  • Posted By: OneContrarian @ 11/06/2008 10:45:07 AM

An interesting thought for Attorney General: Bill Clinton. This would scare the s--t out of many of the old-guard Washington types. Reminds me of when President John Kennedy chose his brother, Robert Kennedy, to serve as Attorney General in his administration. Then again, if Obama's goal is to really unite the country once again, choosing Clinton would almost certainly stir up all of the partisin politics and dash Obama's stated ambition for bringing cross-party healing. An interesting thought, though, isnt't it?

  • Posted By: hardworking mom in Michigan @ 11/06/2008 10:43:52 AM

I understand partisanship. We will usually vote along party lines because the most reflect our overall views but it is apalling the ignorance and hate of some people. The fact that people will believe all the propaganda is horrible. It is fine to vote for one party or the other based on your personal values but is it necessary to be hateful just because we may disagree?

I am still a staunch Hillary supporter, but I congratulate Barack on his win because I understand the need to move on and come together. I just find it very interesting that most of the ???odds-on??? favorites for these key cabinet positions are former Clinton staffers. I can???t help but wonder, was it the person sending the message that had her beat? Obama???s people kept saying that he wanted to be different than the Clintons. If that???s the case then why are all their names being mentioned? I???m not trying to be negative by any means, or take away from this victory, I just find this very interesting.
    Congrats again.
