I am elated to be alive to witness this historic election most significantly as a black man; nevertheless, the task ahead for president-elect is an herculean one. And moreover, Pres. Obama needs to exhibit a high degree of magnanimity as an ingredient to heal this nation and move this country forward. One way of responding to this polarization, is to have a government that is very inclusive and diverse, and to help foster a spirit of bi-partisan that which will allow him to implement some of his campaign promises and carried out the mandate give him by the American people.
    Thanks

I am very happy, democracy is working in America, hitherto criticised. This new election has silenced the critics of America's democracy and has subjected the whole world practising democracy to 'forcefully' emulate America. BALOGUN, ADEKUNLE - LAGOS, NIGERIA. - abalogun2002@yahoo.com

I as so tired of the race issue. He is not black or white but both. I have a problem with his inexperience. I am not worse off than I was 4 years ago because I work for a living. The problems we have are not because of the Republican president but because so many think they are entitled to everything without working for it. I didn't buy a house I couldn't afford or max our my charge cards to get what I wanted when I knew I couldn't pay the bills when they came due. Come on Americans take responsibility for your own problems. As the proud wife of someone who spent 16 months serving our country in Iraq, I am appalled we elected someone who does not respect our flag or our national anthem.

Amen minnesota mom! Obama is also connected with terrorism. My nephew served in Iraq and may have to go back. The thought of our military calling Obama "Commander in Chief" appalls me!

President - elect Obama does not have time to bask in the glory of being elected to the highest post in the nation. He has to get down to business right away. This country and we the people need the "Change" that was promised...reach across that aisle and get everyone involved. I only wish we would have cleaned house a bit more in the senate and house of represenatives. Many congressmen and women have been in office for too long. We need fresh blood in there and fresh ideas.

He may not have gotten elected because he was black but it did have a lot to do with it. Younger voters saw him as a shinning light and well they should. He is a very pragmatic and well spoken! I do not think the young voters know what it takes to be a president. The president should not be elected just because he is good looking or young OR BLACK. African Americans have been mistreated in the past and still are to some extent. Very few people alive today were slaves and to them I say, as an IRISH AMERICAN I am sorry. We "Irish Americans" were also mistreated years ago. Forced into slave labor to pay for passage and other things. I am a third generation Irish American but I call myself an American first and never "Irish American". We are all Americans and should be proud that we are. Why is it that when a African American gets in a fight with a white guys it is a "Hate Crime" but when a white guy gets in a fight with a African American it is just a fight? I am a registered democrat but voted for McCain due to the state of the world. We are going to need a strong leader with a lot of international experience, I thought McCain fit this bill best I will support President Obama and help him in any way that I can. I know he will do a good job and represent the american people proudly and with honor and dignity! God bless the President of the United States President Barrack Obama!

I am happy that Obama won the election... hopefully now we can start working as a United team rather than Red/ Blue and getting nothing accomplished. This is a new era in Politics (we hope) Let us rebuild this great country. I hope Obama surrounds himself the the best & most Qualified people regardles of politcal party. I am hoping that he offers Colon Powell a high ranking position someplace in his cabinet. I have such high regard and respect for that man that after his meet the press endorsement it solidified my decision to vote for Obama, as well as my strictly Republican husband. It is a time for change and working together to get this Nation back on track.

Do you really believe that BO winning is going to unite us? I do not believe it will. Guess who is coming to dinner at the White House, J Jackson, A Sharpton and of course L Farachon(ms) just to mention a few. I guess we had better get used to it. As always just my opinion.

  • Posted By: glock187 @ 11/06/2008 9:10:48 AM

I did not vote for Obama and it was not the color of his skin. A few people have posted here about racists yes it is still in our country and it is sad that we as True Americans allowed it to go on. I hope that these message boards arewatched closely and people coming on here trying to start trouble are banned. Obama is our next President so pray for him and his Family and lets all join in and help him make us a better country. God Bless America

thank you ... you get it!.... we all had a choice to vote with an understanding of the facts and now that the votes have been counted we must do our part to insure that this country is able to move forward and heal

"then stop talking about the first BLACK president finally being elected. "
It's impossible to not talk about Obama being the first black president because it's a major milestone in this country's history and something that will go into history books. It'll be the same when the first woman is elected in to office because it marks a major change.
When people (at least the people I know) say "don't make it about race", they're saying don't make it seem like the only reason he was elected. Because it's not the only reason and it's an insult to those who voted for him.
Also, the idea of "reverse racism" is ridiculous. Whether it's white against black or black against white, racism is racism. And, Sclowery, if your daughter is being subjected to that then bring it to the school's attention because it's wrong and should be stopped.

The world has ended as we know it and not necessarily for the good...It will be the civilrights revolution on steroids...His cabinant will be the leading edge on his redistribution "scheme". God help our all of us, our jobs our prosperity and our personal liberties...

    • Posted By: JackMcG @ 11/06/2008 9:41:35 AM

You are so blind. Never once did President Elect Barack Obama call himself an African-American. He has consistently referred to himself as what he is...AN AMERICAN. Our prosperity is going to grow as we take this long march, our standing in the world is going to become strong and our infrastructure which is so needed to be repaired is going to get the boost it needs and that means JOBS.

  • Posted By: azimuth2000 @ 11/06/2008 9:37:39 AM

Odd thing...they keep saying the first BLACK to be elected President....did you know Obama is more than half white and has some arab in his genetic make up..thats right he is of Arab decent but he is even less of Black so why is it not said that he is the first Multi racial person to be elected President? Why is his majority white genetics not mentioned?

    Dear People of America,
I am a school boy of higher secondary in pakistan where your army had waged war. I request you people that please do something for us by asking your government to stop this war. They say that they want to eliminate bad folks from the world but every time they bomb our village and kill innocent childern and women. I myself seen my two aunts and four of their childern dying. We have now moved from our village where I was living a very comfortable life but now my world is upside down because I am now living just like a war torn refugee in peshawar. I am not able to complete my education on time and God knows when this condition is going to be good and when I will return my home to start my education. I got very great hopes that with the new government the war will come to end and we start living in the safe world again.

    • Posted By: airleg1 @ 11/06/2008 9:38:22 AM

Dear nehan, I am sorry that you have posted on this site for if you are a school aged Pakistani boy and come from where you say then you would have never seen peace and prosperity nor gone to school since they dont exist in the remote areas of country that you claim to hail. If the peoples from the remote areas of Pakistan quit harboring and aiding warlords and actually support your own government prosperity could possibly exist. Please next time you post for your cause try a different angle and try not using proper grammar. (FARSE)

tovote, I don't believe this race was won on race alone. I don't care if you're pink with purple polka dots, what we have is someone who has not been in the political circles so long to have been tainted by them who speaks of the desire to change things in a way that will stop focusing on big business and give the country back to the little guys and they delivered those dreams with such passion as to engage the hearts and minds of blacks and whites alike. He's a man with a great idea that HAPPENS to be black. Who cares - it's not about black supremacy it's about that not mattering so much anymore. There are people who are chained to biases of yesterday and I feel sorry for them, but maybe a fresh view from someone who is willing to try to make things better without a huge Washington resume is just what this country needs. You see how well we did with the last few who grew up in Washington, right?

He should ask his buddy Mr. "Boss" to write a new song titled "MAY BE born in the USA" for his inauguration. I guess we don't even need to meet the constitutional requirements to be a president in America any more. I guess it is Arnold Schwarzenegger's turn then to be the next president.

    • Posted By: Carolanne1210 @ 11/06/2008 9:36:31 AM

Did you know John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone?
If you are born to an American citizen, you ARE an American citizen. Mr. Obama's mother was a citizen, as were Mr. McCain's parents. Give it up already.
