Do not understand why Army Rangers, or other QRF's from XVIII Airborne Corps were not rushed to the battlefield. Some units are supposed to be in the air within 18 hours. Why weren't they used? Operation Anaconda did not achieve its objectives, LZ's were hot with AQ/T-ban, they had the high ground, our intel was bad. There is a need for light, small UAV's at platoon and even sqaud level. It would be nice to know wats on the other side of the ridge, and it would help prevent ambush. Thank God for the Carl Gustav, also known as RAAWS, it was critical in taking out bunkers and killing hadji's in caves. The DoD should concentrate on this war, not on one that may never happen. Some parts of the FCS are good for today, the rest should be put on the back burner. We will be fighting these kinds of battles for the next 10 yrs.

You impose upon the enemy unacceptable casulities so that never again will they comtemplate attacking again.

The trouble is not the military leaders in the field . . . it is the politicians back home that are all too often pulling the strings. If we allowed our military to function more autonomously, Bin Laden would be long dead.

I remember that we bombed the heck out of the mines and deep caves in the Tora Bora area that Al Queda was using to hide in. We were using special deep detonating bombs that would breech any fortified underground facility no matter how deep they were. I know that we succeeded in killing a large number of Al Queda that way but we missed Bin Laden. I heard that he survived by moving out into the open and holing up in a slit trench on top of the ground, until the bombing was over.
I was looking for more illumination on this in the above article. I would like to hear more on this. Anyone?

i remember an interesting fact from the Tora Bora bombings that were supposed to get Bin Laden back at that time. We were using special deep working bombs that were designed to penetrate deep caves and mines of the type that were being used by Bin Laden and Al Queda in the Tora Bora area. We peppered the area pretty good. Busted a lot of underground facilities and killed a number of Al Queda, but not Bin Laden. I heard later that he survived by moving out into the open and holing up in a slit trench until the bombing was over. He was not in an underground cave. He was on top.
I was hoping to hear more on that in this discussion. Anyone?
