A robo-call to me is a guaranteed vote against whoever the caller is promoting.

  • Posted By: minsall @ 10/31/2008 3:51:39 PM

Absolutely not. The only people who would be fooled long enough to listen probably won't vote any way. They are e rude invasion into the homes of hard working Americans! Stop it!!

As quickly as I can hang the phone up, I do. They are an invasion of our privacy and will no doubt reinforce call screening on a machine. If a live person cannot call, I will not listen. You can tell they are robo calls immediately and the only people to be fooled by them probably won't vote anyway.

I've grown so tired of paying the bill for the seemingly neverending stream of junk messages from the democratic party that I've stopped answering my cell phone when it's a number I don't recognize. I set up my phone for telemarketer block long ago so my limited phone minutes wouldn't be wasted on this bs. Doesn't the democratic (and I'm assuming republican) party's constant barrage fall under a telemarketing heading (they are trying to "sell" me something)? If so, why won't the existing laws keep them from doing this?

At this point in the election I have gotten to the point of saturation and disgust that I have to change the TV channel when McCain or Palin are on. I can no longer stomach seeing and hearing them repeat the same discredited lies and misinformation they've been spewing for weeks and months now. The divisive and dishonest theme of the GOP's entire approach to the campaign has become for many the biggest reason to vote Democratic. This said, I would only listen to a robocall just long enough to discern who's calling (2-3 seconds) and then hang up. The only effect the call would have on me is to resent those behind it.

    ENOUGH IS ENOUGH JOHN... SARAH!!!

I can't believe anyone would stay on the line to listen to such garbage. But then, I must confess I've been listening to plenty of the same on news programing--such gems as Obama's infomercial delayed the world series game (false), Obama favors big oil and McCain doesn't (diametrically opposite), Obama's tied to q former PLO spokesperson Professor Rashid Khalidi (he didn't speak for the PLO, Obama hardly knows him, and McCain oversaw the donation of well over a half million dollars to his organization), Obama's tax plan will hurt small businesses and the middle class (again, false--check any independent source on tax policy for a fair evaluation of the respective tax plans). The good news--most folks aren't buying the lies.

I am on the no call list if I get a call my machine screens it too. I will not answer.I know the Republican Voters are out there as a sleeping giant they all will pull McCain through. They don't forget the dirt brought up on Obama. They know he is a socialist. They know the democrats have a bill right at this moment in the senate trying to raise taxes of the middle income people that Bush vetoed. They know Obama does not have the experience needed to be a Strong President, one that will not be swayed by other Countries. In fact one that has Americas best interests in mind. Obama wants one world order. Very sad and scary times we live in if that goes through. Obama promises things he cannot give. We are in debt how can he pay people that do not work a refund. How can he spread the wealth? With out hard earned money??? Come on undecided's he has charisma but he is not what we need. Not to be trusted. Vote Mc Cain!!! Mc Cain , Palin is the choice. " Put your Country First!! Stand with Mc Cain.

    • Posted By: 4carol @ 10/31/2008 2:25:32 PM

Neither MCWar or Paling know anything about putting "Country First"!! All they have done is divide us; and that is all they will do if elected!! They care nothing about helping as Palin says "real Americans"; and all they will do in office is continue to reward those fat cats and millionaire's. The Real Americans will no longer stand for their lies and hatred and racism!!! America is better than that, much better!! We want to go forward here and in the world, NOT BACKWARDS AS THEY WILL TAKE US!!!!
OBAMA/BIDEN IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET BACK OUR COUNTRY AND OUR RESPECT IN THE WORLD!!

Give it up! Your soap box is made of cheap wood. Your posts only show your shallowness not any intelligent discussion. Make a point don't just spew!

As an older veteran and fiscal conservative, I did stand with McCain in 2000. I admired his miiltary service and sacrifice as a POW. I thought he was our best choice to avoid the excesses of what are now the past eight years of possibly the worst President in our history. I was even willing to forgive --- if not forget ---his close association with Charles Keating and legions of lobbyists. Unfortunately, as witnessed by his renewed support for George Bush, Senator McCain is willing to crawl into bed with anyone who can further his own political aspirations. And I believe his advanced years, in combination with the deletorious effects of his POW experience, have clouded his judgement and rendered him incapable of serving as President. Witness his choice of a running mate not to mention his erratic behavior over the past month.

My service bears witness to my deeply-held patriotism, and I'm voting for future of my county. Count me as an Obama supporter.

4 carol. What does you comment have to do with robo calls? Or do you just vent everywhere you can like a robo call? How ironic!

  • Posted By: Flash McGruder @ 10/31/2008 2:49:56 PM

All of the robo calls I have gotten have been from the Republicans, McCain/Palin, and the Republican Congressional incumbent candidate. Every one has been full of lies, distortions, and fear and smear inuendos. I will not vote for people that spread such lies and fabrications. This is why I did not vote for a single Republican since these calls do not reflect the character and values that I consider worthy of respect.

  • Posted By: shhhh_4 @ 10/31/2008 2:44:09 PM

Not only are these calls not effective but as someone on the DO NOT CALL list for telemarketers, I find it irksome that the do not call list obviously does not apply to politicians.

  • Posted By: shhhh_4 @ 10/31/2008 2:41:26 PM

Not only do these calls not work, but as someone on the DO NOT CALL LIST, I am irked that politicians are not held to the same standards as other sales people. After all, they are trying to "sell" themselves...

I am a conservative, pro-life, Catholic, and it is for this very reason that I will not vote Republican this year. I can no longer abide by these tactics, or the purging of minoroties from voter rolls simply to skew an election. As hard as it is for me to say this, I am hoping that the Rupublicans are swept away next week so that a new crop of Conservatives can ascend and restore dignity to the movement. We should be able to win elections based on the intregrity of our ideas, not the depths of our tactics.

Congratulations!! I am an Independent who at one time had great respect for Mr. MCCain. However, with his judgment of his VP and his reaction to the crisis' at hand (not to mention the lies, hatred and racism coming from his campaign), I cannot in my heart of heart vote for this puppet of a man who at ONE time had integrity!!! Also, I'M AFRAID HE WILL LEAD US TO YET ANOTHER UNJUST WAR!!!!

Yah yah yah this candidate is whoreable this candidate is a liar blah blah blah the levels people stoop to root for their "team" is embarrassing and disgusting. The way people treat each other over an election is sad. I feel bad for you people I really do. Look outside and get a life. Your lives will change very little no matter who the president is I assure you.

  • Posted By: rif242242 @ 10/31/2008 2:20:06 PM

Of course these things don't work! Nobody sits on the phone and listens to the taped garbage on these taped messages.

Listen, short of nominating the Supreme Court Justices the president has little sway over individuals lives. The party differences aren't that great anyways. Congress creates and enacts laws and has the power to go around him anyways. Alan Greenspan even admitted that this whole "credit crunch" fiasco was his fault (as well as the dot com bust of 2000) .As far as the worst presidency of all time, Congress' approval level is about half of that of the presidents. Anways, vote Obama vote McCain, or don't vote at all you will see very little diffenence in your personal life. I can't wait until this election is over people are so rude to each other just because they like different teams. It's almost as bad as Raiders vs. Chargers.....

Obama has 63 Nobel Laureates working on his policy team. They are developing a plan to push America back to the top. Who is responsible for McCain's planning? Americans would be shocked to find that Douglas Holtz-Eakin is the sole person responsible for planning McCain's policy for America's future. Holtz-Eakin is also McCain's economic advisor, filling two full time positions on McCain's team. How can one single man (an economist) be responsible for developing a viable technology plan for our future? Obama has an enormous pool of the most intelligent, talented men and women in America working for him. Soon, they will be working for US: for you and for me and for America.

And let's not forget that the McCain campaign spent more on Palin's makeup artist than it did on it's foreign policy advisor. When you pay your makeup artist DOUBLE what you pay your foreign policy advisor, it is time to start examining your priorities.

You look just fine without makeup, John. And Sarah is young enough not to need any. So cut the crap, and start paying some good ECONOMIC ADVISORS so you can have a fiscal plan to present to America. We're in the middle of a huge global financial meltdown, and you are worried about hair and makeup? PLEASE start worrying about the middle class, John. Please.

    • Posted By: 4carol @ 10/31/2008 2:18:30 PM

MCcain/Palin wouldn't know what the middle class was if it came up and bit them both in the AS*!!!!

  • Posted By: 4carol @ 10/31/2008 2:14:41 PM

There's only one word for them "DISGUSTING".

  • Posted By: Loden Green @ 10/31/2008 2:02:39 PM

"But research indicates that whether they're listened to or not, robo-calls have no effect on voting habits."

That's just one more reason why the dumb bunnies running McCain's campaign have put him in a losing position. Maybe--just maybe--if John McCain had spent more time telling us positive things about himself and less time trying to tear down Obama, ol' John might be in a better position now.

corn is just another invented issue.
All the group does is register new voters . They pay people 8 bucks a hour a help people
fill out registration forms and then turn them in. By law they are required to turn in ballots people fill out that dont seem credible. But they seperate them from the normal ballots and inform election officials when they turn them in. As a example If somone fills out a ballot that says donald duck they still have to turn that ballot in , but since there really is no donald duck and no one to show up and vote with a id that matches that registration on election day . It will have zero effect on anything and all this is is a waste time
Also all ballots acorn marks as fishy are also investigated and checked against state records to make sure they are real people if not they are thrown out.
Its has no effect because no one can vote without proper ID
So unless the gop thinks there are imaginary people to go along with with throw away ballots then
lets move on to something that matters like the fact we are going in to the next great depression,
and that mccain says he doesnt understand the economy
How about we talk about the war, the national debt <11 trillion>, The housing market, the job market, health care, global warming.
Are things so great we need to invent issues like acorn ?
or is it the gop has no answers to the mess they have created in the last 8 years?
Let talk about things that will improve our lifes and not something no one cares about.
And lets throw out the poeple that created this mess
they dont deserve a chance to make things worse

Please vote early election day will be a mess

I am deeply offended by the tone of the robo calls and since I live in Arizona I am surprised to be receiving them. One such call was so vicious that I am now voting for Obama. I don't think he is a socialist a terrorist or a wanto-tobe-dictator as one of the call suggests. This vile stuff totally turned me off.
