I happen to fall into the "middle-class" that Obama is targeting in his campaign. I must admit that all of his promises sound good - they are what I want and most of America wants to hear. However, I think everyone is so driven by their emotions that they cannot see through the smoke & realize that these are EMPTY promises. Right out of the gate, Obama lost my (Republican) support, because he chose to camaign dirty. By that I mean his change of mind regarding his campaign financing. He went back on the VERY FIRST PROMISE he made to the American public. If he is going to lie about that - what else is he going to lie about??? Of course he's doing better in the polls - he is using illegal funds to inundate the air waves with messages that largely outnumber McCain's. Wake up people! Don't you realize you are mortgaging your future for someone who "wants" to help out those who are less fortunate - but ironically only wants to do it with someone else's taxpayer dollars? How much of his personal funds does he donate for charitable causes? Perhaps he should have also used some of his $600 million in campaign dollars to fund charitable causes? To me it would have been much more appealing to see him put his money where his mouth is - to see him doing good is worth WAY MORE to me than all his empty promise campaigning. This is only the tip of the iceberg - but to me it is the most important. It speaks to Obama's real personality and character! Watch-out all, a Democratic Super-Majority = Change we can be AFRAID OF!!!!!

Obama didn't promise to accept public financing. He issued a lengthy--and yes, nuanced--position stating that if his opponent accepted public financing he would as well. And if was only after he decided to go the private financing route that John McCain (the next day, I might add) announced his decision to accept public financing.

But that's beside the point. These campaigns are getting dirtier and more expensive every 4 years. For all the talk on the campaign trail of what we need to fix or fully fund in Washington, certainly our tax dollars could be put to better use than some "I'm-candidate-x-and-I-approve-this-smear" TV ads. I'm thrilled that Obama has paid for his own campaign with contributions from the millions of people in this country who are as excited about the prospect of his presidency as I am. THAT is democracy in action.

It was deregulation and failure to watch the PRIVATE SECTOR that LAMBASTED the deenfranchised that caused this debacle we see today. McCain and yourself for MONTHS only wanted to look at Fannie Mae and your tunnel vision did not see the private sectors involvement in all of this. Fannie Mae is regulated and you two love deregulation. You were not interested in SOLVING the problem, you only wanted to SMEAR democrats especially Barack... NEWS FLASH it's not working.

More than 84 percent of the subprime mortgages in 2006 were issued by private lending firms
Private firms made nearly 83 percent of the subprime loans to low- and moderate-income borrowers that year.

Only one of the top 25 subprime lenders in 2006 was directly subject to the housing law that???s being lambasted by conservative critics.

Clearly it was private lenders, not the government-backed Fannie and Freddie, which issued the lion???s share of subprime lending overall, and to low- and moderate-income borrowers in particular. In fact, economist Dean Baker notes that Fannie and Freddie ???lost market share in the years 2002-2007, as the volume of private issue mortgage backed securities exploded.???

The authors also note that between 2004 and 2006, ???private investment banks???not Fannie and Freddie???dominated the mortgage loans that were packaged and sold into the secondary mortgage market. In 2005 and 2006, the private sector securitized almost two-thirds of all U.S. mortgages, supplanting Fannie and Freddie, according to a number of specialty publications that track this data.???

As for the Community Reinvestment Act, only one of the top 25 subprime lenders was even subject to that law because it applies only to depository institutions???banks and thrifts. A study released earlier this year by a law firm specializing in Community Reinvestment Act compliance estimated that in the 15 most populous metropolitan areas, 84.3 percent of subprime loans in 2006 were made by financial institutions not governed by the CRA.

In fact, the CRA actually created more responsible lending. In a speech last March, Janet Yellen, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, noted that, ???[m]ost of the loans made by depository institutions examined under the CRA have not been higher-priced loans. The CRA has increased the volume of responsible lending to low- and moderate-income households.???

McInturff's assertions about the Wal-Mart women coming out in droves to save the election was really about something else that McInturff' talks about privately - - - that low income whites prefer McCain almost 9 to 1; even in the 18 to 29 group. That group McInturff jokingly and very privately calls the "White Trash" vote, and that is now being targeted heavily by the McCain campaign as the final "Hail Mary "of the election.

And then you have the oled deposed Republican leadership who could have really made a difference - - - like Newt Gingrich - - - he is not heavily into the fray because our current Republican part y dleadership espises him. Newt actually said about the current leadership that they had created the Democrat's Campaign slogan and it's "Have You Had Enough." Then we found out that Joe the Plumber did not even have a plumbing license. . . nice touch . . . maybe someon could have checked out the story earlier before riding that horse.
So I'm perplexed . . .the campaign is being run like dumb and dumber . . . with an actual strategy to go after the "White Trash" vote who they think will turn the election around for them . . . brilliant strategy . . . maybe I need to go get an old beat up pickup to drive to the polling place . . . and I can just think of the bumper sticker that I might use. Mr McInturff . . . you're a real genius - - - maybe next time we can get some input from Bill Kristol - - - someone with some common sense . . . and he would have made a better VP too.

Cowardice, incompetence and massive criminality has taken the party of Reagan and turned it into the joke of American politics. The Dems are going to win the WH and control the Senate, and congress...Repugs who don't like it, well they only have themselves to blame:)

A few words to "Now..." Do you really think you can sway anyone from voting for Obama with all of your guilt-by-association" smears? I've already voted for him and I don't regret it. I vote for policies, and the Democrat's policies are in line with those I support. Of course, I know there are some empty-headed "undecideds" who change their vote with the time of day or the setting of the sun, and maybe you can have some luck with them, but don't hold your breath. I could say, "nice try," but since your tries are not very nice, I'll skip that.

nwittingly took a prank call Saturday from a Canadian comedian posing as French President Nicolas Sarkozy and telling her she would make a good president someday.
"Maybe in eight years," replies a laughing Palin.
The Republican vice presidential nominee discusses politics, the perils of hunting with Vice President Dick Cheney, and Sarkozy's "beautiful wife," in a recording of the call released Saturday and set to air Monday on a Quebec radio station.
Palin campaign spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt confirmed she had received the prank call.
"Governor Palin was mildly amused to learn that she had joined the ranks of heads of state, including President Sarkozy and other celebrities, in being targeted by these pranksters. C'est la vie," she said.
The call was made by a well-known Montreal comedy duo Marc-Antoine Audette and Sebastien Trudel. Known as the Masked Avengers, the two are notorious for prank calls to celebrities and heads of state.
Audette, posing as Sarkozy, speaks in an exaggerated French accent and drops ample hints that the conversation is a joke. But Palin seemingly does not pick up on them.
He tells Palin one of his favorite pastimes is hunting, also a passion of the 44-year-old Alaska governor.
"I just love killing those animals. Mmm, mmm, take away life, that is so fun," the fake Sarkozy says.
He proposes they go hunting together by helicopter, something he says he has never done.
"Well, I think we could have a lot of fun together while we're getting work done," Palin counters. "We can kill two birds with one stone that way."
The comedian jokes that they shouldn't bring Cheney along on the hunt, referring to the 2006 incident in which the vice-president shot and injured a friend while hunting quail.
"I'll be a careful shot," responds Palin.
Playing off the governor's much-mocked comment in an early television interview that she had insights into foreign policy because "you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska," the caller tells her: "You know we have a lot in common also, because ... from my house I can see Belgium."
She replies: "Well, see, we're right next door to different countries that we all need to be working with, yes."

    PALIN GOT PUNKED PART 2
When Audette refers to Canadian singer Steph Carse as Canada's prime minister, Palin replies: "Well, he's doing fine and yeah, when you come into a position underestimated it gives you an opportunity to prove the pundits and the critics wrong. You work that much harder." Canada's prime minister is Stephen Harper.
Palin praises Sarkozy throughout the call and also mentions his wife Carla Bruni, a model-turned-songwriter.
"You know, I look forward to working with you and getting to meet you personally and your beautiful wife," Palin says. "Oh my goodness, you've added a lot of energy to your country with that beautiful family of yours."
The Sarkozy impersonator tells Palin his wife is "so hot in bed" and then informs her that Bruni has written a song for her about Joe the Plumber entitled "De rouge a levre sur un cochon" ??? which translates as "Lipstick on a Pig."
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama derided his Republican challenger John McCain's call for change in Washington as "lipstick on a pig," days after Palin made a lipstick joke at the Republican convention. The McCain-Palin campaign then released an ad implying Obama was calling Palin a pig with that remark.
The caller asks Palin if Joe the Plumber is her husband and adds: "We have the equivalent of Joe the Plumber in France. It's called Marcel, the guy with bread under his armpit."
He also tells the Alaska governor that he loved the "documentary" made about her and referred to a pornographic film with a Palin look-alike made by Hustler founder Larry Flynt.
She answers tentatively, "Ohh, good, thank you, yes."
The callers then reveal the prank and identify themselves and their radio station.
"Ohhh, have we been pranked?" Palin asks. "And what radio station

"Nowforthetruth" is now selling that Obama has PLO buddies referring to an LA Times story about Rashid Khalidi. McCain dropped that when it was disclosed that McC donated $440k to Khalidi.

    See for yourselves at: http://richmonddemocrat.blogspot.com/2008/10/mccain-funded-rashid-khalidi.html

"Nowforthetruth", a little more "truth" about guilt by association....

"Nowforthetruth" also said: "Nins, all you prove is that you have perpetual PMS and cannot read. If you are as careless in your practice, you are a danger to your profession." You reveal too much of yourself "Nowforthetruth".

"Nowforthetruth" continues repasting that the cause of our problem is a law decades old that encourages loans to qualified low income people. "Nowforthetruth" continues to repeat well known deceit.

Alan Greenspan stated recently that the problem was not anything like that. Rather, he stated that an entire financial system was built outside of regulation, and "we trusted" these self-interested looters to regulate themselves. Credit Default Swaps were the result.

Credit Default Swaps increased from $106 trillion in '02 to $531 trillion under the R stewardship. No regulation.

While there are several variations of a viral email that tries to blame a few thousands of political donations to some Ds, the actual, legitimate news has reported that Fannie and Freddie paid many millions to Republican lobbyists to lobby Rs, only, to PREVENT REGULATION.

McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, received up to $35K/mo. from Fannie and Freddie from 2000 to present, to lobby Rs,only, against regulation. Freddie paid Rick Davis while he has been McC's campaign manager. Freddie donated $250k to the R convention.

These facts are everywhere in the legitimate news: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/22/us/politics/22mccain.html and http://www.newsweek.com/id/164732/page/1 There's much more legitimate news on this.

Trillions were looted from our economy because the Rs allowed it. It is inescapable that the Rs, most prominently McC's campaign manager, were in the pockets of big money while they drove the buss off the cliff with us in it.

You can try to distract people with fears about 'those guys'. Lies, distortion, deception. 'Socialist' is only the last in a long, now desperate, list of labels you have tried to pin on 'that one'. That's all you have left.

Is your most recent reposting here directed to fears about "Socialism", or is it just innuendo, or are we trying to fold in a little racism too?

Since we have no more ideas, let's keep running our campaign on fear, smears and hypocrisy.

Keep talking "Nowforthetruth", you're really helping. You keep demonstrating that we all have to vote against lies and propaganda and attempts to hijack our political process with deceit. Your actions are the kinds of reasons that I'm voting for Obama after 40 years of never havin

Comment: Hear Obama and Clinton for yourself, in their own words wothout the filter of someone elses opinion..

      Bill Clinton says so. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsynspIqAoE

Obama in this video, addressing his community activist work and his work representing ACORN in litigation against the banks and relating to the Community Reinvestment Act, and addressing the failure of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae as those actions relate to the destruction of our economy by causing the current real estate and subsequent financial crisis, states that, and I quote:

"Subprime lending started out as a good idea, helping Americans buy homes who previously could not afford to. Financial institutions created new financial instruments that could securitize these loans, slice them into finer and finer risk categories, and spread them out among investors and around the country, as well as around the world. In theory, this should have allowed mortgage lending to be less risky, and more diversified."

Acknowledging the catastrophe, but as apologist for the Democrats, Obama then offers this justification.

"The original idea was a good one, which was, lets see if we can distribute risk more broadly, and make it easier to provide loans to people who otherwise might not be able to get one."

Yah, great idea. Economically unsound, but embraced by Obama. Listen for yourself. You cannot dispute the mans on words recorded live:

What is most troubling in todays political climate is the promotion of hatred as a philosophy. The emergence of an ultraconservative dogma relies increasingly on the encouragement of mass hostility aimed at one group in particular - Americans with progressive political views. Liberals are spoken of with the kind of dripping contempt and virulent hostility that used to be associated with racism and sectarian religious strife. Liberals are viewed not as fellow Americans citizens concerned with the future of their country, but as ideological enemies that need to be destroyed - and eaten if possible. This view is fundamentally anti-American.

This right-wing sect manifests a complete lack of empathy toward other Americans whom it defines as its ideological enemies. Its core beliefs are absolutely impervious to reason and are unleashing ugly and violent impulses. What makes their zeal so dangerous for our country is their willingness to do serious damage to our precious American Democracy in their quest for absolute power.
