Sandy, you were just a little late in realizing that everything was going downhill. It actually started in 2000 with the appointment of a President instead of the election of a President and with 8 years of this person , 8 years of a republican senate and 6 years of a republican congress it just went into total decline. It will take far more than 2 years of a just little over a half Democratic congress to fix this Repblican mess.

    • Posted By: diogenes 2008 @ 11/01/2008 9:08:00 PM

The real decline was the power takeover in Congress by Nanc Pelosi-D- the People's Republic of California. With full control of both halves of congress and chairmanship of all the committees, she presided over the doubling of gas prices, the crash of the housing market started by the clinton Admin pressuring Fannie mae to give sub-prime mortgages to the unqualifieds (NY Times Sept 30, 1999), the stock market crash, and the biggest witch hunt in history by the . . . Thank God Bush was president when we were attacked on our own soil. Clinton let the terrorists prosper and America suffered. Pelosi played politics and America suffered. If Obama is elected, there will be no end to the suffering of America until the end of America as we know it.

/The Democrats don't have a "full" majority in the Senate. Also, the president has vetoed several bills they have attempted to pass. This is really a twisted assessment. It thought at first you were being ironic, but I think on the second read that you are serious. Alas.

Has anybody even thought about the concequenses of what would happen if the govenment went and bought up everybodies morgages? Wouldn't the (homeowners) then be under the total control of the government, they would all be renting, now wouldn't they?
The Government could just come and take "their" property and do just whatever they please with it and not even have to ask permission and or buy the property from the real owner. As it would be theirs anyway..... I usually vote republican........... but that one got me. Let's at least let the homeowners have the right to do their best and have pride in doing so. Sometimes it is ok to be wrong, you learn from it and go on in the purchasing of a home.
But really to have all homes owned by one government, just something about that just doesn't sound right. Pride seems to have gone right out the window.... nobody seems to even think about this fact, minor as it apparently is

Come on Dems. give some good facts why Obama's the man for the White house??? And pleeeeeease cut the crap about us conservatives and Republicans being racists,....Rev.Wright anybody???? Pathopinion,...you need work on a better reason other than morals. No politician has morals.

Reasons to elect Obama. Let's see. Tax cuts for 95% of working Americans, better health care, getting us out of Iraq (a war he voted against--shows good judgement), stepping up the war in Afganistan to get the people who actually attacked us, better education for all Americans, a calm presence under pressure, a willingness to negotiate rather than attack. Gee, are those enough reasons to vote for an man. I think yes. VOTE FOR OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT ON TUESDAY.

It is really difficult to decide which candidate stand for what. There has been so much bashing of the other candidate by both of them that i think it is hurting them both. I personally think both candidates should be focussing on what they are going to do for our country so it is crystal clear what they stand for. This has probably been one of the most negative campaigns in our history. At this point do we really even know who said what? This "he said she said" has gotten out of control in both parties and I will be glad when the election is over...or will I be?! lol

Angelicar, good you voted, but you don't seem to understand why people in other countries look down on American's, yet want to come to America. They look at everything we have, and know that they would have an opportunity to have the same, if they could come to america. They have no respect for American's because we have everything and we take it all for granted and we cry that we have nothing. Most households have 2 cars, 4 tv's, 2 computers, 2 refridgerators, washer and dryer, a back yard grill, and most go out to dinner at least 2 times a month. most people need a spare room for there clothes. We have all this, and yet we wine that we have nothing. People around the world look at us and say, how dare they say they have nothing and things are so bad. You don't know what bad is compared to most places in the world. we are looked on around the world as spoiled ungreatful brats... and they want to come here, so they can have what we have... many die trying to come here, yesterday, 24 died trying to come from the Dominican Republic.. go to the poor countries, go to china where people work for a dollar a week.... then look at yourself and tell me how bad you have it....

Calipauthy, Pay is much higher in Canada then in in America. MINIMUM WAGE IS 9.00 AND EVERYONE CAN LOOK THAT UP. YOU GET TAXED A LITTLE MORE BUT YOUR PAY IS A LOT HIGHER. EVEN MY 16 YR OLD COUSIN WHO WORKS AT MCDONALDS PART TIME IN CANADA GETS 10.00 A HOUR AND LIVING EXPENSES ARE A LITTLE HIGHER BUT NOT THAT MUCH. MY TWO OLDEST COUSINS SHARE A TWO BEDROOM TOWNHOUSE IN ONTARIO WHERE I GO TO VISIT AND IT'S ONLY 750 A MONTH AND ITS A NICE ONE IN A GATED COMPLEX BEFORE THIS ONE THEIR APARTMENT WAS KINDA RUN DOWN BUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD WAS STILL GOOD AND THAT TWO BEDROOM WAS 575 A MONTH SO YOU DO GET PAID A LOT MORE IN CANADA

Obama is getting all the black votes just because he is black. they had a poll and 70% of blacks said they are voting for him just because he is black.. what a joke. He has no idea what he is doing. No experience what so ever. Who knows who he actually knows behind close doors. He is on record for saying "America will be a muslmi/ christain nation" AMERICA IS TO BE A CHRISTIAN nation!! he said 95 get tax cuts when only 60% of America pays taxes and before it was those over 250,000 increase taxes then 200,000 now Biden said 180,000..LOL come on now be real.. MCCAIN ALL THE WAY dont just vote because he is black or hes not a republican.

    • Posted By: EdieV @ 11/01/2008 8:11:47 PM

How many whites do you think are voting for McCain because he is white? Give me a break. If all of America were blind and could only hear what the candidate had to say, 90% of them would agree with McCain. As far as the tax cuts, Obama has said over and over again, the tax cuts are for the 95% of WORKING AMERICANS. How do you think he would be giving tax breaks to people who pay no taxes? All you have done is listen to the lies that McCain and Palin continue to spout. Take time to read Barack's policies. Don't just believe the lies the McCain/Palin ticket keep telling.

      • Posted By: EdieV @ 11/02/2008 1:20:53 AM

I want to comment on my own comment. I typed too fast and said something wrong. Correction: If people would listen and not pay attention to color, 90% would vote for Obama. McCain lies. He votes with George Bush. Enough said.

You need to substantiate all of your quotes and accusations. You can't just wildly throw all kinds of stuff out there and expect people to take you seriously.

Where did you get any factual report that stated that Obama wants a muslim/christian america? You need to read and listen to the facts, you must be one of those who BELIEVE EVERYTHING THEY HEAR feel bad for you, I know alot of people like you, my son is one of them he has never been able to think for himself sadly he will be voting for McCain because of all the lies he HEARS AND BELIEVES. do your research....

Your a moron! Use the same dumb logic on McCain, white men vote McCain. What is your point? I'm white and have worked and contibuted everything I can to Obama. McCain has voted 90% of the time with Bush, enough said

  • Posted By: RestoreTheRepublic @ 11/01/2008 8:52:55 PM

This is EXACTLY we need to vote for we need to vote Chuck Baldwin (Constitution party) into presidency. We've been voting for a Dem. or Rep. for 160 yrs. and NOTHING has changed--that is the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.. Both Obama and McCain voted for the bailout..why on EARTH would ANYONE let the federal reserve (which is a private company that taxes us for every dollar they make out of thin air) print SO much more money when our money is already worth so much less!! SUPPLY AND DEMAND PEOPLE! NOW WE ARE PAYING FOR THE RICH PEOPLE TO GET OUT OF THEIR OWN DOINGS! This is all done intentionally. Vote for independent to DESTROY the federal reserve and let's give states back their power!! ENOUGH DICTATORSHIP FROM A SMALL GROUP--THIS IS NOT WHAT OUR FOREFATHERS STOOD FOR!! This is urgent -- our system will collapse if Obama or McCain will become president, because it's all about the rich people. PLEASE look into 3rd party candidates and realize what they stand for. Ron Paul makes so much sense...he is truth and he is backing up Baldwin...lets get this right and restore the republic!!!!!!!!!

Also people needs jobs not charity. Charity only creates more and more and more hungry mouths to feed.... an empty black hole. We tried to stop poverty in Canada and instead bred more.CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME. Keep your money in your own pocket. Welfare creates a large corrupt bureaucracy.

Thats funny the way I see it if you vote for MCcain then you are against the military. Because I am tried of deploying to a country that we are not even supported to be fighting in. Evil greedy American politician created the Iraq problem not Americans and 2/3 of Americans want out. Iraq wants us out, so let get out. Why can't this government just do what the majority wants? Close the border, get out of Iraq, don't bail out wall street(Grand Theft), get off foreign oil and etc. Is it because special interest groups run America? What are we going to do to get our country back?

Enter Your CommentWE will get our country back when more people remember that it is our country. Represenatives don't lead, they follow. They are supposed to follow our lead. Being an American is not a Right or a Priveledge, it is a job. American people want to blame govt., but govt is a child, WE the people are the parents, if the child does something bad you punish it, but at the same time you have to realize you should have been watching it.

Has anyone thought about the oil driller and high wire workers on the cell towers who rightfull deserve to make the big bucks being taxed addtional for their dare devil jobs. Guess they could just stay home with the others and collect a check. Some industries need to make big bucks because they do jobs that we can't or won't. If you live in a small town as I do 200K sounds like alot of money, but know it won't go far in San Francisco, Seattle, New York or other major metros. It's fine to say suck it up, but in some cases it's not even reasonable to ask some area or job types to suck it up, We need them our there doing what they do so those of us who don't make as much can live a good life. I like cell phones and that means towers need maintenance. I don't want that job and I'm glad to see someone does. They shouldn't need to pay additional taxes because they take on high paying jobs. From where I sit, my job is worth twice the pay in a large city, but it would under the Obama plan ultimately cost me more in taxes. Joe the Plumber isn't off base, why penalize those that work hard to help out those that might not have paid the price. We have systems in place to catch the down trodden, we need to get those system void of fraud and leave the tax system alone. I don't think one candidate is "telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth"..Never have, never will

    • Posted By: diogenes 2008 @ 11/01/2008 9:00:48 PM

I think Obama's tax ideas are best summed up by the cow, the goose, the duck and the pig . They all want to take away from the hard-working little red hen and give to those who don't have the initiative to work for themselves. Obama knows that anyone who wants to work hard can get there, the lazies never will; but if you promise to give them money they will vote for you. $800 million buys a lot of vottes.

      • Posted By: EdieV @ 11/02/2008 1:20:02 AM

Obama never promised to give money to people who do not work. Check out his plan on his website. He says tax cuts to working people--not tax cuts to people who don't work. How can you cut taxes on someone who has no taxes to cut? Logic does not rule in this country, does it?

    • Posted By: A plumber @ 11/01/2008 9:30:02 PM

Joe the plumber is not a licensed plumber. He should work on that first. I am a plumber and do not know many plumbers making over $250,000 a year. As for feeling sorry for everyone who makes money and picking on the poor. You are right those poor CEO???s with golden parachutes, with bonuses greater than $200,000 a year. Their jobs so dangerous they could not do them correctly for fear of a paper cut or hot latte burn. We have become a nation of whiner???s. We could not see the forest through the trees if we tried. If we have an opinion that does not agree with someone else we are not American. So let???s take care of the world and not our own. Just remember as the deficit get larger and other countries buy us up. Who will have to foot the bill? Oh, I forgot this about the taking care of me generation. I guess future generations of Americans are on their own to pay for this mess. At lease the will have cell phones to make their lives so much easier??????

      • Posted By: JustGreatisn't_it? @ 11/01/2008 11:08:58 PM

If your company has 10 plumbers the owner better be making the 250 for his investment in equipment, insurances, and employee programs or he's not in the business of making a return on his investment. I'm not saying the CEO's with golden eggs I'm talkin about the small business owner who's vesting everything they've got to run their dairies or contracting businesses to live the American dream. They need a good return to make the investment or why bother? just stay at home and get checks for the government. If we all stay at home then it's just a fine and dandy system isn't it?

The IRS tax able indicates a 33% tax on any income above 195000 to 350000. So if a tax payer makes 350000 they will have to take 150000 times 33%. Barack said no new taxes above 250000. What is he going to do with the rest of the bracket?
10% on the income between $0 and $16,050
15% on the income between $16,050 and $65,100; plus $1,605.00
25% on the income between $65,100 and $131,450; plus $8,962.50
28% on the income between $131,450 and $200,300; plus $25,550.00
33% on the income between $200,300 and $357,700; plus $44,828.00
35% on the income over $357,700; plus $96,770.00
NOTICE WHERE Barack PUT his NO NEW TAXES cut off?
Bush SR. Said NO NEW TAXES too and looked what happend

Even though we've had a Repulican President for 8 years, the democrats have had control and have messed things up. Previous democratic presidents before Bush caused all the mess we are in now. Now the dems want to blame Bush for things that he didnt cause. He tried to fix regulations and economics, but the democrats blocked him! I've had enough of democrats.

    • Posted By: EdieV @ 11/01/2008 8:08:05 PM

George Bush has had his way for six of the eight years that he has been in office. HE HAD A REPUBLICAN CONGRESS! The good things the Democrats have tried to do like extending health care to children in this country was vetoed by George Bush! You can't blame the Democrats with this mess; take a good look before casting blame on them. From the time that Bush got in there, he has done nothing but make a mess--including getting us into a senseless war that has been in part what has gotten us so far in debt. All the republicans have done is make the rich richer. Unless you are part of that rich group, you should be looking long and hard at what the Democratic party has to offer. They are the party that wants to help with health care, schools, jobs, rebuilding our infrastructure (instead of Iraq's). Just do your homework and you will see that the Repbulicans are not for the common man--only the wealthy.

George Bush was given the gift of 9/11 right after his first term started. Why do you think this happened right after Clinton got out of office? Clinton did nothing to stop the threat of Terrorism. If Clinton hadnt been voted in we would have marched into Iraq and ousted Sadam in the early 90's. I was there and know it should have been completed the first time. Instead Clinton let 8 years go by where Iraq was able to rebuild and hide the weapons. You say they didnt have the weapons. I saw the weapons in Iraq in 1990 so where did they go.....they were moved. He was using them on his own people so come on!!! OK you say Bush was wrong because they didnt exist. Lets believe the media they are always right?? Come on PEOPLE do you always believe what people tell you is the truth.

        • Posted By: EdieV @ 11/02/2008 1:17:21 AM

George Bush had the choice to stay in Iraq and fight in the 1990's. He chose not to. That had nothing to do with Clinton. Bush did what he said he was going to do and brought the troops home. His son, on the other hand, did not think things through. He had no plan. That is why we are still in Iraq. We went in under false pretenses, and he could not figure out a way to get us out. If Barack Obama had had his way, we would never have gone into Iraq. He voted against the war. He would have gone after the people who attacked us--not those who did not.

We had the troops and materials in Iraq when the old man Bush was in office. We could have and should have gone after Saddam then instead of screwing around with him for the next eleven years. Going after Saddam for 9/11 is like Roosevelt going after Mussolini instead of the Japanese for the attack on Pearl Harbor. Bush had personal interests to invade Iraq instead of pursuing those responsible for 9/11.

Democrats have only had a majority in the House of Representatives for a few years. Currently they don't have one in the Senate, but the two Independent senators usually vote with the Democrats. However, the President still vetoes everything he doesn't like. The Senate can override his veto with enough votes, but the Democrats don't have enough votes for that, sooo you can't blame them. Sorry.

Any comments suggesting that Palin is more experienced than Obama are ridiculous. Look at thier histories. Palin went to six colleges in six years to get her Bachelors Degree. Obama is a Harvard Law grad and was the editor of the Harvard Law Review. He was a senator for a state with one of the largest most diverse populations in the country before he was a US senator. He understands foreign policy, he was a constitutional law professor, so you know he understands the constitution. Some of Palin's recent statements make it painfully obvious that she doesn't. I know there are a lot of folks who like to thumb their noses up at well educated, well spoken, well versed folks, but to comapre Palin- -a mediocre thinker with a rudimentary understanding of the role of the vice presidency and the world in general-- with Obama is an insult to Obama and to all Americans. As an American and a person who loves this country I want my leaders to be smart, impressive, well educating people. The cashier at my local grocery can be folksy; a game show host can be telegenic and wink at the camera well. But I want the people who represnt the US to the rest of the world to be better than most of us, not like most of us. Obama is the man.

    • Posted By: QuadEagle @ 11/02/2008 1:15:23 AM

Your premise is that Obama is more experienced than Palin...so strike the comments on education as they do not speak to experience. Obama was a senator for a state with one of the largest most diverse populations in the country before he was a US senator. Palin is the governor of the largest landmass state in the country and is the Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard and the Alaska State Defense Force, a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counter-terrorism plans. Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country's defense. Given Alaska's proximity to Russia, Palin likely holds security clearances that are themselves a secret. Fact Check: While it is largely reported that Obama was a Constitutional Law Professor, he was not. Obama was a lecturer on Constitution Law. Obama is a brilliant orator who interjects passion and inspiration into the words that roll past him on the teleprompter, and Palin is real, genuine, and a breath of fresh air whose plain speaking and straight forward approach is same way people talk to one another every day. If there is a question of experience for either of these two...better the inexperience is on the bottom of the ticket and not the top. If Palin were not such a threat as VP, you wouldn't be trying to so hard to convince us that your presidential candidate is more impressive. Nice try though.

Barrack Hussein Obama! I don't care what color skin he has. Where has he gotten all this money?? Think about it...If he is elected into office, we might as well open the gates and invite every terrorist in the world to just come on over and move in. You better wake up people. Maybe he's not the anti-christ, but he's not far from it. George Bush didn't ask for 9/11 to happen. You can thank the wonderful Bill Clinton for worrying too much about his dick and not this country. Read your bibles people! Read Revelations. Don't be stupid and vote for a man because he's black. Let the past stay in the past. There's not one person alive today that lived during the slave days. Stop punishing white people for something they weren't even alive to. Its amazing how much racism has come out during this election. People are acting crazy. If Barack is elected, God help us all!!! Do the smart thing and vote for a true American!

That's why they call it a bubble... people were employed to make "stuff" that was being paid for on credit they shouldn't have gotten and now can't afford, they weren't good times, they were "borrowed" good times. Now the bill has come and people can't pay up, that aint the dems fault

I think we were all doing very well up until about 2 years ago. Unemployment was at an all time low, mortgage rates were low. I had refinanced at 4.625%. Things were going great until 2 years ago. All Hell broke loose when we ended up with a Democratic Congress.

    • Posted By: EdieV @ 11/02/2008 1:13:55 AM

Believe me. The Democratic congress did not get us into this mess. Deregulation by the Republicans was one of the chief problems. The war we should not be in was another. The Democratic congress has not gotten very much passed because good ole George W has vetoed any really good legislation. One example of his veto was on health care for children, leaving thousands of children with no coverage. This is typical of the Republicans. Look after the wealthy. Be dammed about anyone else.

  • Posted By: GSSconsv1 @ 11/01/2008 11:08:28 PM

The only fair tax plan is to go on percentages. You would not be able to have tax shelters and everyone would participate. Why do we pay federal tax only to have our representatives fight to get that money back in the form of pork? This practice leads to overspending and corruption. I would rather pay less to the feds and more locally to let the local and state governments finance their own projects. It would also be easier to hold local officials accountable and limit federal involvement to only what was constitutionally mandated.

If the Federal government was stricly limited to common Defense and regulating interstate commerce and the states dealt with the rest us citizens could "vote with our feet" and leave those states where the taxes are too onerous. All the social workers and public school teachers could stay in Kalifornia and the git-r-dun folks could live in ID etc. Of course. . .who would support all the social workers in CA?

    Vote Obama
    Vote for a destroyed economy

Since when does it make sense to raise taxes for 5% of America while 95% get cuts? There is another organism on this planet that follows that same pattern... that???s a parasite.

What Obama suggests will put stress on the businesses that make up our economy which are all ready very stressed. The parasite will feed on the host until it is removed or the host dies, which is what will happen to our economy. The small businesses that make what Obama feels is too much will be taxed and he will "spread the wealth" to the 5% which will mean the businesses will either remove the parasite (I.E. start cutting back on job), move to another area where it can grow freely with out the parasite feeding off it, or die.

These large businesses are the heart of our economy if they fall, so does the rest of the working class.

    Think about it.

P.S. By the way I make less than 25,000 a year.

I believe the billionaires in the top 5% can afford to pay their fair share of taxes. I am in the $60,000-$100,000 category. We pay 33% to 35%. Give us a break! We are the middle class in case John McCain does not know us by the amount we make. Remember, McCain thinks the middle class is somewhere around $3 million.

I live in souther Illinois, and i have to say the only jobs around here are from small buisness. I believed very stronly in trickle down economics, but then they signed NAFTA and well all the big buisness left. I manage a small buisness and from what i have seen of Obama's plan, it isn't all that bad. I don't agree 100%, but i am a republican after all. I do know this, my buisness pays 36% total in taxes on average, we clear around 100 to 150 thousand a year, emply 32 employees, i would love to give them healthcare, currently cant afford to. This is my definition of a small buisness, it seems close to were Obama stands on small buisness. I think McCain is out of touch if he thinks that any place makeing over 250000 dollars a year is small, or if he thinks a 2500 tax credit will alow my employees who often borrow money from me to pay their rent, the freedom to get health care. As stated I am a Republican, but I can't vote for any more of the same, maybe Oboma isn't right about anything, but one thing I do know from my political science degree is that unless you are voteing for the incumbent, all candidates are unexperienced. Also what I know from common scence is people need help, not politics, or debates were issues aren't adressed, answers are skirted around and the media is more concerned about how much an outfit cost, or who someone served on a board with. WE as Americans need to fix the problem of this country. Politicians are supposed to represent out desires, and beliefs. Regardless of who is elected tuesday, nothing can change if WE the people don't cause it to.

BIG BUSINESS LIKE EXXON MOBILE WHICH MADE RECORD PROFIT THIS QUARTER. Are they really going to be stressed if Obama get into office?

Bujin279...brilliant comment. I love the parasite analogy.

Frankly, while I agree with you I think you miss the point. The purpouse of raising taxes on the employers is not to generate revenue. Listen to every voice calling for it. . .this tax scheme is punitive in nature. We will punish those earning more than us as they must have stepped on someopne to get there. No way they could have earned it.

just a question, not a comment, did Ayers ever get charged? That might actually be the answer to your question.
