It wasn???t just the Bank Executives that caused the housing meltdown; it was the normal Joe getting greedy and living a lifestyle he could not afford. Did anyone notice all of the new Hummers and sports cars on the road after 9-11 when the interest rates dropped? These people should have only refinanced and paid off debt not squandered the cash out from inflated home prices that were not guaranteed to go up in price. A couple years??? later people were struggling again as the cash dried up so the whole housing industry started paying off appraisers to over appraise homes and banks which have had creative loans for many years started granting loans to people who did not have the real income to afford these loans if the housing prices did not hold. In most cases the income they were reporting was rental income from the over priced homes that they had purchased to FLIP??????.A couple more years and more Hummers and more expensive sports cars and things were good.. Finally no one could afford these over priced homes any more and too much cash had been wasted on material things and things people did not need.....WHICH CAUSED OUR FALSE ECONOMY TO MELT DOWN. It wasnt Bushes fault, it was Greed in our everyday life of outdoing our neighbor and Living Beyond Our Means.

Thank you for that one. My husband and I "could have" gotten a bigger house, but we used common sense and chose modesty. We seriously have a humble abode, but it suits our family fine and meets our needs. I love our country, however, we have a huge problem with understanding the difference between our "needs" and our 'wants". God Bless our Country. We need more God and less government.

Hey BunkerBuster - let me teach you a little Banking 101. Banks don't make 30-yr mtg loans. Mortgage company's and some bank's mortgage division ORIGINATE mortgages for Fannie/Freddie, because these agencies don't have grass roots lenders. When Fannie/Freddie marketed their "great" programs (loan to anyone), mortgage ORIGINATORS took the apps and Fannie/Freddie FUNDED. Mortgage brokers went to town with this lendiing because they could make money - with no risk, because they don't keep the paper.

As for his health care plan, Universal health care works wonderful in Canada. Its Mccain who wants to tax people on health care. and what good will the 2,500 per individual or 5,000 per family McCain wants to give people going to do when health care cost at least a thousand dollars more a year for even very minimum coverage. Plenty of people who cant afford to pay 300 a month are still not going to be able to pay the 150 a month mccain will cut it down too.And why is it reform when mccain wants to do something and welfare when obama wants to do something? Obama will bring real chance to washington, this will be the first time any of us ever see change. Dont be blind, dont let any of the republicans trick you guys into letting the rich become richer and the middle class get poorer. If what their doing was working then all of americas wealth would not be concentrated among 5% of all the people. imagine that what 95% of what all the people make together equal to what the other 5% make. Its time the middle class got the tax breaks instead of corporations and rich people.

What plan does McCain have for us?? We dont know.. You know why? Because he doesn't talk about his plan all he does is talk about Obama. He twists peoples words and is nothing but negativity. If hes not talking about Obama he has nothing to say.

      VOTE OBAMA

Double check the Canadian wonderful health care statement. My Candian friends come to the US to get care they need in a timely manner. It's just not so....Can't see doctors when you want for what you want.

      • Posted By: bigfatboy @ 11/01/2008 10:01:42 PM

My Father had an uncle die in Canada Because their health care could not get him in in time. That is why they come to the USA. If you stop your employer from having to give you lousy health care, possibly they will give you a raise so they will still get the tax right off. Yes you will get taxed on that which in most cases will be less than $5000.00. Than a tax credit for $5000.00 is given to you. The net result is you will get money back. Than go buy the kind of health care that you want, not what the government wants to give you.

i agree with j smiths comment the something for nothing crowd this isnt directed towards those of us that work and i feel if you feel insulted than stop thinkin the world owes you something and support this country instead of making it worse!!!

    • Posted By: rgpizza2008 @ 11/01/2008 9:41:19 PM

The 1,000 dollar credit everyone is talking about is a making work pay credit. If you dont work you cant get it because its for people that work hence making work pay. The other big thing he's doing is helping people who cant afford to go to college with the oppurtunity credit which is avaliable to anyone of any income in exchange for 100 hours community service hours. If you donate 100 hours of time you will recieve 4,000 dollars for school. again you have to trade 100 hours community service so you have to earn the 4,000 dollars.

If anyone is socialist its the republicans, they want to tell you who you can marry and wether or not you have to have a baby. Their is a reason why 5% of america concentrates all the wealth and what the 5% pay in taxes is more money then all the rest of us pay together and the republicans want to keep the middle class stupid and working to make more money for the rich. The only people who don't understand that are people who think they will one day be in that top 5% percent too... But they wont because its not about working hard even through they want you to think it is.... Itt's about being lucky, its far more about being born into the right family or knowing the right people then it is working hard. Of course these people are more educated, they can go right to school after college and focus on learning, they dont have to worry about working through school, or loans or bills. They can focus on their studies just from being born lucky not from working hard. Do you think John McCains kids or Palins kids are going to have to work their way through school? And Palins daughter doesn't have to think about having a abortion because the family has enough money. I gaurentee you her pregnant daughter is not going to work and raise the baby at the same time. Palins family wont know what thats like and thats why she doesnt care about the middle class however what she will do is put all these special needs programs in all the schools just because she has a special needsdoen syndrom kid. and they want to keep the rest of our chances limited and they want to keep us uneducated. Their are plenty of people who work hard but because they were not born lucky they wont have the same oppurtunity for college as other people, if they go to college they will have to work full time and not be able to study correctly or have to go to school part time and it will take them twice as long. All Obama is doing is giving people who want to work hard a little help because they werent born lucky. The rich will still be rich but someone who wouldnt of been able to go to college because they were born unlucky will have a chance to and thats the difference that obamas going to make.

Enter Your CommentFirst of all Obama is backed by warren buffet, the richest person in america. Yes he is even richer then Bill Gates and thats why he has so much campain money. Secondly he is not a socialist, all he is doing is moving the tax rates for people who make over 250,000 a year back to where they were under Bill Clinton ( which was when the economy was phenomanal by the way. And instead of giving the tax breaks to big corporationsa nd wealthy people hes giving them to the middle class instead.

Are Americans too scared to see the truth and speak out? Are they afraid to stand up against a minority who stands against what America stands for- which is what made America great.

Obama is just a good Orator. I am an African Canadian. I love Obama as a fellow black but he is not ready to lead America now. Wake up guys. Stop you gullible attitude. The world is seeing because they are looking from afar. Obama will not have a chance in Africa, with no experience, so untrusting. I can go on.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. I'm not scared of Obama. I am inspired by him. He is intelligent, insightful, eloquent, analytical and steady, and not arrogant. I like those as presidential qualities. By the way, caucasians will be a minority in the United States in the not-too-distant future. Corporations have been preparing for this kind of workplace diversity for years. So what--it's no big deal.

myvoice, if you actually listened to the debates - both men speaking - or checked out the McCain website (I'm for McCain but still took the time to read Obama's site), you would know that McCain has plans, policies and ideas. For most of us, this has nothing to do with race.. it has to do with honesty, integrity.. just answering a simple question without all the excuses. If you can't understand what McCain is saying on his site and in the debates, then you have a problem.

Isn't it nice, Obama wants us to hire him as president of the US so he can turn us into the USSA. During the interview process, he refused to talk about his past record, and refuses to answer questions about his past. Hmmm, nice interview... i guess lots of people will vote on looks rather than facts.

  • Posted By: Dexter5 @ 11/01/2008 9:44:13 PM

What I find amazing is how people don't listen to the candidates. Obama is against the war in Iraq, however, clearly stated we needed to use action against Afganistan, Russia, and Iran. Let's just fight everyone when we have so many problems at home. Obama also clearly stated that we "United States" need to rebuild the infrastructure of Georgia and the Ukraine. We need to spend money and support them, not only morally, but also economically. We cannot even support ourselves. Change, people, come on really, do you want your taxes to continue to go up and have us support a world when we cannot even support ourselves. The word change is overstated and Obama has used that word so much that he has brain washed everyone into thinking he can deliver positive change. The media has tried to destroy a man that has dedicated his life in more ways than one to his country through war and politics. He doesn't have to prove his worth, he has served his time with mistakes and not. The integrity of McCain far reaches the lies and rhetoric that Obama spews out of his mouth over and over again. The speech is so well rehearsed, I'm sick of it already. I would rather see an inexperienced Vice President than a President. People forget Obama has none and his close ties with groups that hate americans or whites is a disgrace. To disassociate yourself with someone to appease the american public is not honest. Obama would not have done that if he was not running for President. He will say and do whatever it takes hiding under the idea of change. And we are too stupid to see it. Wake up! We have deep rooted problems in this country, who is going to take care of us. Not the Corporations you bail out that lay people off and displace jobs to overseas. We need jobs. We need money. How about us? We have a strong well educated middle class that cannot even find employment to survive. What do our kids have to look foward to when the competition overseas is buying up our real estate in our own country and we are allowing it. Who do you think they are going to hire? Americans? Come on. Look at our problems, look at who has the experience for real change and look at who is the truck American that has served our country in more ways than one. If you want real change, stop electing these senators and congressmen everytime. There is never change where it truly is needed. Why don't Supreme Court Judges have term limits, everyone else does, including the highest office in the land. Why should they be exempt? Obviously, I can go on and on. All I have to say is that I fear election day if Obama manages to win as the polls look. Obama's change is scary and not to the benefit of us. Wake up!

What do you think the Republicans have been doing with out money? Just think. The Bush administration has sent money to Sadan Hussain's sons. Isn't that a good way to spend our money. How about all that money that has been spent on rebuilding Iraq. How about all the contracts that Bush's cronies have gotten. If you think what Obama is going to spend money on--America--health care, education, infrastructure of America--then you really have not been paying attention to how the Republicans have been spending money. We are in debt further than we have ever been. We owe China billions. We have sent all of our jobs overseas. Surely you don't believe that the Democrats could do any worse.

Neither McCain or Obama would be on my list to hire if I were hiring at any company I have ever worked for!

Both of these guys were on Capitol Hill when this $$$ crisis was building and neither did anything to stop it OR to make the voters aware of the problem. All they had to do was call a press conference or go on 20/20 or 60 Minutes or Face the Nation and lay it on the line. But both of them were walking softly to make sure they got re-elected again.
We need to go to one 6 year term for life. Once their term is over, these hacks need to go home and find a real job. It is what the guys who wrote the constitution intended in the first place so we could avoid the profesional polition.

McCain: Is this the best that the Republican Party can come up with? Stop telling me about your war imprisonment: how long do you intend to wave the flag and milk this cow? Tell me,
what have you done for me recently? No company I ever worked for would allow me to go this long on something that I did 35 years ago!

Obama: Is this the best that the Democratic Party can do? This country needs a real leader with management experiance who can get things done! This guy is a great speaker and has suprised the press as well as a lot of Republican voters, including me.

Shame on both parties for failing to send your best guy/gal to the front! I realize that we only have those folks who are willing to run for president to choose from, not those that are best qualified. It seems to me that both parties could not talk the best qualified people to agree to run for president, so they kept going down the line until the finally found these two guys! How sad for the rest of us...........because now we will be stuck with one of these two guys as Mr. President.

I voted Saturday October 25th in early voting. Put away your robe and hood. Peaceluvfreedom, do some reading. This ENTIRE economic crisis was caused by FannieMae/FreddieMac. Raines was sent directly to Fannie from Clinton's White House and removed all prudent lending standards. Bankers watched this in horror, knowing without a doubt that billions in loans would NOT be repaid. Their Fed examiners warned Congress again and again, along with Bush (20 times) and Greenspan. Liberal Democrats scoffed and ignored them - there is video to prove this. The DEMS little Socialist experiment put us where we are!!!

    • Posted By: Bunker Buster @ 11/01/2008 9:51:49 PM

You make me laugh when you say "Bankers watched in horror;" If the banks knew, as you say "billions in loans would NOT be repaid" then why did they continue to make those loans? Why did they continue to take on all of this questionable debt? Because they wanted to make money on the interest, smart one, and they didn't care who made the loans or who was supposed to pay them off. You so-called "conservatives" are such willful nitwits, its no wonder you're about to get spanked on Tuesday.

This article is just more ideological trash. The title would have you believe it's attempting to be non biased but is just more pro obama garbage. The "coffee" Ayer's had at his house was a fundraiser for obama's first campaign. Must be great when complete strangers throw fundraisers at your house for you.

    • Posted By: vlamb @ 11/01/2008 9:51:08 PM

There is a lot of space between "a pal" and a "complete stranger" I see the same people when I go out walking every day. I don't know most of their names, but sometimes we stop and chat, pet each other's dogs, talk about what a nice day it is, etc. They are not pals, not complete strangers. If I were running for mayor, the guy down the road, who knows lots of people, might have a coffee for me. This is all speculative. It has also been investigated already--believe me if there were anything new out there we would have heard about it ad nauseam already.

It wasnt just the execs that caused the housing meltdown, it was the normal Joe. Housing prices in Las Vegas, San Diego, and the Scottsdale are were climbing so fast due to the good old boys in each of these communities.

McCain is taking the brunt for the economic situation we are in. The gas prices seem to come from the republicans, but the housing situation was caused by Democrats who protected Fannie mae and freddie mac because they were their cash cow.

We hear this from one side and that from another and who is telling the truth? I tend to believe what I see and I'm going to show you some eye opening video. Seeing is believing. Please take time to watch because our election is so important and we must know the truth.

Obama is not the anti christ, let me say that first, so please Go to you tube and type in obama anti-christ - the acorn prophecy and seeing is believing. I just want people to see things that are not out there in the media. Pass it on too.
