I don't care if Obama is the color purple and from Mars. The man makes some sense out of the madness that the previous Administration has made of this country. Obama and his admiistration, or McCain and his administration cannot fix what has happened to this country as a result of the inept, careless, laziness of the last administration. Obama speaks intelligently, McCain, and especially Palin, well, I'm not Alice, and there isn't any looking glass. Obama/Biden, that is MY CHOICE!

I feel that the last two years have been going down hill. What a coincidence isnt that about the lenght of time the democrats have been the house majority?

Factcheck.org gets 3.5 million from Obama, and it is telling us the facts. what a crook

    • Posted By: forbesmarch @ 11/01/2008 9:00:02 PM

Either Factcheck is a part of a massive conspiracy of which Obama is the evil Muslim overlord, or maybe Obama cares about the truth, you know, like whether or not there actually ARE WMDs in Iraq for example...

you people are crazy. I have been with a sucessful world wide company for 3 years now. I have worked my way through the ranks. And now right before I am going to get my big promotion The company downsized an entire shift and now my position is not going to be filled. As many americans are encountering these types of set backs no one cares. We are all talking about tax cut this and raise taxes that. What the average american realizes is this, we will never be even close to the 150,000 mark or more so what does it matter about a tax hike for people who are making astronomical amounts of money. I bring in 35,000 a year, just bought a house and am now barely able to make the morgage. I will never be able to go to college because I can't afford it. I have to postpone having kids because the money factor. Now is this the american dream???? I can't even afford a matress because I am trying to make sure I have food and a roof over my head. Lets be realistic about things. On the fact checker that we all read how many times did we see mcCain and Palin on there. Is the american way lying and deceit????? No so why are we talking about terrorist this and that. I feel Obama is the best choice because he has a plan. McCain is talking about the here and now but does he have a plan or will he make it all up when he gets to office??? These are all things that every voter should be thinking about. Not he's a terrorist or she doesn't know her *** from a hole in the ground. Lets stop the arguing and make a good decision so we don't screw this thing up for another 8 years..........

according to history, before the country went into a depression, it was in a recession, just like we are now. when hoover raised taxes on everyone making 100,000K or more, THAT was when the depression hit. That is what Obama wants to do. Do you really want to have a depression? This recession is more than bad enough. But, if THAT is what you want, then vote for Obama.

      • Posted By: vlamb @ 11/01/2008 8:59:47 PM

      • Posted By: sandyshores10 @ 11/01/2008 8:40:35 PM

In this country you now have a chance for advancement but with Obama that chance will be gone with the people who have to be taxed. mayby Obama can help you loose that job altogether and you can sleep on the curb.

I personally went to an Obama rally & I must say that it was an experience of hope & unity. There were blacks, white, asian, gay, straight, rich, poor & I must say that these people are the most peaceful loving citizen of our country. When I watch McCain rally, all I see is hate & anger. Remember, diversity makes this country great.

    • Posted By: macauley10 @ 11/01/2008 8:57:47 PM

Instead of blaming the Republicans or Democrates why don't we really put the blame where it REALLY BELONGS on the American people shoulders for we vote in the people. Lets put a limit on how long the senators can stay in office just like the president (HE CAN ONLY STAY IN FOR 8 YEARS). How many people have been in the house or senate for more than 8 years and still has not done good for the poeple or the country. But they are all rich without helping the american people. LETS SET A LIMIT OF 8 YEARS FOR THEM JUST LIKE THE PRESIDENT.

  • Posted By: orig_bajarider @ 11/01/2008 8:56:15 PM

McCain show the American public you have no ties with the Bush administration and how you plan to get this country back on track. Can you really fire the Good OLD Boys you have been associated with for the past 26 years? If you were a true leader, you would lay out your plan for getting this country united instead of spending money on material that lack substance. I have yet to see any leadership abilities:

  • Posted By: runninbear3 @ 11/01/2008 8:54:27 PM

John McCain is simply trying to fill his daddy's little boy done good complex. please have we not spent the last 8 years with a fool how has been trying to do that. McCain says he is a proven commander and chief but i could not make it in the Navy and his father was a Admiral in charge of operations in Vietnam but his son got shot down twice, held captive and made statments condeming the actions of his beloved goverment .he then walked away from his Navy claim a conflict of princible. but now he back sending today solder off to fight a war on FALSE CHARGES that no one has ever been held accountable for "MR VICE PRESIDENT" PLEASE I HOPE THAT WE CAN GET PAST THE BULL AND SEE THE TRUE CHANGE. You liberals are all a bunch of idiots. I cannot believe what I'm reading. You're going to get what you wanted, a very sketchy liar as our new president. I beg any one of you to post JUST ONE thing that Obama has done to deserve a crack at the highest office in the world.
I've worked 16 hours per day the past 5 years to build a my business and now that it has finally started to succeed I will have to close my doors, and fire my 4 employees. I REFUSE to share all my hard work and dollars with you hand-out seeking bastards. Why don't you just work hard for your money too? A nationwide welfare system should be scary for anybody that wants to work for a living. F-OFF liberals. The hell with all of ya!

    • Posted By: vlamb @ 11/01/2008 8:53:19 PM

You know, I can see that you are angry and frustrated, but you can't just go around pronouncing that all the people who don't agree with you are low-lifes looking for a handout. I am 62 years old, have been a single parent since before my second child was born, came back with two kids from Europe with a trunk [mostly full of their toys] and a couple of suitcases. I worked three part-time jobs at first and lived for less than a year with my parents. I have never been on welfare. My kids had braces and dermatologists and one rowed [which was expensive] and we managed. I took out loans for graduate school which I attended full time while working full time, and finished when I was 50. I just finished paying them off 2 years ago. I have a nice job in a nice place and a salary that might be considered cushy if we didn't live in Northern Virginia, a very expensive place to live. I don't see me being able to retire for at least 10 years. Fortunately I am healthy. I am working on a second masters to move into another job with my company and also to give me more flexibility if I need to work even longer. I don't want hand-outs, but I do know many people I am worried about because they are just one serious illness away from having their worlds crumble around them. I hate it when people make the kind of sweeping self-righteous statement you just made. Do you think all people who don't agree with you are beneath human courtesy? Are perhaps even inhuman. When we get to the stage of feeling like this about groups of other people, we no longer feel an obligation to treat them humanely. They become objects. Is that what you want? Not me. I want a society where people care about each other and don't try to pigeonhole groups of people who do not agree. Devisiveness and lack of compassion is exactly what I don't want. So I won't be voting for Senator McCain--although I started out thinking he was a decent guy.

      • Posted By: JoeSmitty @ 11/01/2008 5:58:42 PM

If YOU are making over 250.000 a year, NOT your business, then YOU can afford to keep your doors open and pay 4 employees, unless you're "Joe the Plumber" who is absiolutely too stupid to know that he will actually get a TAX BREAK instead of a tax increase!

        • Posted By: sandyshores10 @ 11/01/2008 8:36:10 PM

Even Joe the plmber is infinatly smarter then you are. These costs will reflect in everything you buy and you will never want to be a millionaire because Obama is creating a tax celieing at 250.000. Who in the USA ever woke up in the morning and said when I grow up I want to be a quarter of a millionaire?

        • Posted By: Mercer Co Buckeye @ 11/01/2008 7:55:38 PM

Why didn't Obama tell Joe that he would get an decrease in his taxes then. Instead he said (and I know you heard him) that it's good to "spread the wealth around". I like what McCain said, "We'll see that everyone has opportunities."

    • Posted By: student/teacher @ 11/01/2008 6:12:08 PM

OOhh, so sorry, I work as many hours as you if not more trying to educate children in inner city schools. I don't make a fraction of what you probably earn, and a good portion of what I do earn goes right back in to buying supplies to provide for and motivate my students. I work just as hard as you do, the difference is I care just as much about other people as I do about myself. Being a greed self righteous a**hole doesn't make you right.

      • Posted By: mbscguy @ 11/01/2008 7:05:20 PM

        • Posted By: sandyshores10 @ 11/01/2008 8:31:50 PM

Your own greed of other peoples money will be directed into everything you buy.

      • Posted By: tigerlily009 @ 11/01/2008 6:38:33 PM

Nor, does it make you right either. You chose education knowing that pay was low and that compliments were scarce. Maybe if you want more pay you should look at disbanding your teachers union and giving up tenure and run schools like businesses. "A retired super educator"

        • Posted By: student/teacher @ 11/01/2008 6:52:50 PM

I never said it made me right. But if someone is going to try and call me a lazy hand out seeking welfare rat just because I'm a liberal then I see no reason why I should bother with things like niceties and etiquette in my response. As far as tenure goes, get rid of it, see if I care, but Unions do serve a purpose. They may be bloated but then so are the district organizations. Checks need balances, it's unfortunate and bogges down the whole system but without it people get taken advantage of and used.

Why is it that Republicans are so gullible that they believe everything that their candidates say about Obama? Mc Same is soooo desparate he and Palin will say anything to distort the facts. Why don't we demand next time that all political ads from whomever ,have to pass a litmus test and that no ad that is not speaking the truth be allowed on the air. Futhermore there should be a large fine given to whomever authors the ad...no exceptions. The fine money should go to the opposite party, the party who has been slanderd.
Why is this so difficult? Do the ads actually work? The campaigns have to be held responsible for what they say....It's too late this year but I will push for ad reform starting Nov. 5th. Anyone wish to join us? dgg

Agreed Moscow traveler. Let's talk about Hussein Obama's plan to reverse Bush tax cuts. For lower earners ($30M single; $60M married) it's a 84% increase. Bush put more $ in our pockets than any Pres in 40 yrs. Calculate the savings when your mortgage went from 81/2% to 5%, then add up your annual savings with his tax cuts X 8 yrs. EVERYONE saved, & he helped the lower earners the most! Where's fact check???

in the last 30 years republicans have had the white house for 20. in the last 56 years the repulicans have had the white house for 36. 66.6 percent in the last 30. 64 percent of the last 56. Yet every 4 years they blame everything that goes wrong on the democrats. seems to me they must be quite ineffectual or incompetant. a mccain presidency will be a repeat of the last 8. obama has sparked hope and unity amoung those of us willing to listen to him. he has called for sacrifice and responsibility from us. on the other hand a mccain or palin rally attacks obama and encites anger and hate. i'm 56, white, have worked hard all my life, and have been self employed for about 20 years. i've put 3 children through college and consider myself very fortunate.

There go the neocons throwing the welfare term out there again. Hey radar and the other ignorant necocons out there - why don't you just say what you mean? "The terrorist black man will take money from the hard working white people (not all just Neocons) and give it to the black/brown people who sit at home waiting for more government handouts." Though many experts refuted the welfare claim, the ignorant still spout the same drivel heard at McKKKain rallies. Like the article stated, when McCain gives back - its reform, when Obama does it - its welfare. Heaven forbid, McShame gets elected, the country should be renamed the Divided States of America. Patriot vs. Terrorist; Maverick vs. Socialist; Real American vs. Un-American. You'd have to be blind, deaf and dumb not to see that the GOP campaign is run on lies, misconceptions and fear-mongering. McShame doesn???t even discuss his policies anymore ??? just spouting divisive terms and dragging that ???loser??? Joe the (not a) Plumber around like an abandoned dog. Like the saying goes ??? ???You reap what you sow.??? If we haven???t learned anything from the last 8 years, then we get what we deserve.

The idea that the rich should pay more taxes is absurd. The rich do not require more services from the government that do the poor, in fact; it can be argued the rich require less. Why should the ???rich??? pay more for freedom? Do the ???rich??? collect more welfare? Do the ???rich??? wear out the infrastructure at a faster rate? Do the rich get subsidized mortgages or Section 8 housing? Do the ???rich??? pay one price for a loaf of bread while the poor pay another? In a free society where all are equal, so should the cost be equal. Stop the class envy mantra???.

It's no wonder that American voters often say that the election offers them no choice. When the candidates of the two major parties falsify, at worst, and miserably twist, at least, various facts and allegations (and let's face it, any other party candidates are usually left behind in the wind), it is like voting for which "crook" is better than the other or just trying to avoid the "worst." It's really ridiculous. I would really like to see the media come out with the clearly delineated facts on each topic area. The best I've seen so far was a link on the MSN website but it didn't offer a side by side comparison. So much of this junk, and I do mean junk, is just superflous to the candidates' positions on the major issues, and let's face it, neither candidate will follow through on their platform positions and promises....either because they don't have the support in Congress to get them through ... or just because they drop the ball or things change. You can sign me "turned off but will vote anyway" just because I still believe in the basic fabric of America...we have a great country...we just need our politicians to clean up their act!

    • Posted By: vlamb @ 11/01/2008 5:37:31 PM

Actually, SandraJoan, it's YOUR job, not the media's to do the research and make up your mind. It really goes with the right to vote. It is also time-consuming, but so is reading these comments. And you are doing that, right?
      vlamb

      • Posted By: QuadEagle @ 11/01/2008 6:29:21 PM

vlamb???SandraJoan is right. The media is granted special rights, privileges and access for the purpose of finding and reporting the truth. The media has failed in their role so much so that journalism is dead in America. SandraJoan???s commentary points this out???that what should be a vast and reliable body of truth and knowledge from which a person can research the issues and candidates has turned into a biased and slanted accounting of facts filtered through the political prism of the writer or the media institution that is reporting them. The free press is a joke. SandraJoan made no argument that it was the job of the media to do her research and to decide for her, her argument is that the media is not doing the job that Americans count on them to do. In your arrogance you missed the obvious point that SandraJoan was making so that you could pen some condescending and self-righteous drivel.

Wow. I can't believe how seriously you Americans take your elections. Here in Canada, we're done in a matter of weeks, while you drag it out incessantly. I'm not saying we are right, it's just a lot different. And as you can see, we aren't the ones who screwed up big time in Iraq. Happy voting!

    • Posted By: mary1961 @ 11/01/2008 7:07:51 PM

Oh Canada, indeed. I guess you haven't heard that the US and Iraq are winning the war there. Canada has not been the ones who fought the Cold War to its end. Canada didn;'t have 3,000 citizens killed in say, Ontario or Toronto. We did. Canada and the rest of the world watched and did nothing. The US is tired of playing the world's policeman -- but the UN does nothing. Look at Darfur. Tell you what Canada. Where did I miss Canada standing up to North Korea and Iran and Russia. You enjoy liberty at home because your neighbor to the south provides it. Yes, we take our elections seriously...

      • Posted By: taretare @ 11/01/2008 8:37:47 PM

Tell me just what we are winning. You have to have been put on the defensive to fight a war. What is to be won in a country that doesn't want us there, and has been fighting long before we existed and will continue to fight long after we are gone.

    • Posted By: Oldschoolpaulie @ 11/01/2008 7:05:15 PM

Ethics in campaigning is only foreshadow of the ethics that can be expected by the winner???s administration. Misrepresentation of the truth, in the form of logical fallacies and outright lies about the opponent's plans or past actions, is a tactic being used to win en election, but more importantly, are being used on us, as Americans. We are the ones that will suffer by succumbing to distortions, because that behavior will persist another four years, perhaps more.
Unfortunately, both parties are guilty of ethical lapses as a method of winning. Can anyone assure Americans that we won???t be lied to more once either of them are in office? I believe our duty is to hold candidates accountable for honest campaigning. Any amount of dirty campaigning should be viewed as grounds for losing their constituents. After all, they are lying to ALL OF US!
