Alot of the comments on both sides sound like the drug companies trying to scare you into buying thier products. BETTER BUY THIS OR YOU WILL DIE !! It's America people , Even if Obama is elected he is not a dictator. he has to deal with congress and the supreme courts. Knock off the scare tactics and vote for who you want . That's what makes America great.

One of the biggest and most disgusting part of McCains campaign, and I support him, it making a hero of Joe the Plumber as the guy looks like a big stupid dope on stage with him and I hear that if McCain wins he will take him to Washington with him. I cannot believe McCain would be that stupid.

    • Posted By: QuadEagle @ 11/01/2008 7:20:27 PM

Joe the Plumber is an American who asked a candidate for the President of the United States a question and you call him a big stupid dope? Wow, now that???s being open-minded and embracing diversity for you. I feel sorry for you Liberals.

123jenn45 how do you live with all your unfounded fears and delusions?

You say McCain is doing all the mud slinging...let's watch a clip for the Today's Show--Obama distorting the truth again..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHnVZpA69j0&feature=related

McCain shouldn't tell the truth about what five questionalbe people who are extreemly frightening and questionalbe? Get your head out of the sand!

Special treatment you can believe in. Isn't it amazing that with the whopping amount of money that he has available to him, despite never having any sort of real job outside being a politician, that Barack Hussein Obama "didn't know "his aunt was in America illegally? I think it's much more likely that he just hoped no one found out about it, like his friendship with his terrorist buddies & his hatred of Christians...and gun owners. law-abiding gun owners.

Being a governor for ONE DAY qualifies you more to be president than being a senator for 24 years. I???m tired of the rhetoric that Sarah Palin is not qualified to be president, if something should happen. She???s more qualified than any of the other three.

Teddy Roosevelt was governor of New York for less time than Sarah Palin has been governor of Alaska. And TR is in the top 5 greatest presidents of all time.

Number one? Lincoln. What qualified Lincoln to be president? He wasn???t even a member of the house. He was just a lawyer. Number one greatest president in American history, Lincoln.

Get off Sarah Palin, democrats (I won???t even capitalize your party, because you???re not capitalists).

    • Posted By: sleepyo @ 11/01/2008 6:22:40 PM

Teddy's state had people in it, not a population the size of New York City.

      • Posted By: kevinmont @ 11/01/2008 7:18:06 PM

Wow. Teddy's state had people in it. I wonder what that means. Not the sizeof New York City. Please don't post any more comments here until you learn the language.

    • Posted By: ruckus @ 11/01/2008 6:25:58 PM

Obama is a lawyer as well. I guess that will make him the second best president ever.

      • Posted By: eaglwlker12 @ 11/01/2008 6:39:34 PM

Nobody trusts a lawyer, so what does that say about Obama. Of course his practicing law was rather limited. He has always been running for office on a platform of lies and deceit.

  • Posted By: jvazz @ 11/01/2008 7:16:50 PM

Rev Wright and Ayers = yesterday news. Find something new.

  • Posted By: 123jenn45 @ 11/01/2008 7:16:18 PM

To say your too smart. What a joke! it just means you haven't done your homework. Can you really say you would feel safe w/Obama in office? Last time defense and intelligence spending was cut 36% by Clinton, 9 months later 9/11 happened. Clinton ignored the terrorist when they attacked the USS Cole. This time around, Obama say's he will dismantle the nuclear program COMPLETELY, dismantle the Reagan Missle Space Defense Systems, and make America completely defenseless. In the meantime, Iran, China, India, Russia are all moving forward. Do you realize what will happen when we are no longer a super power? Anybody ever see the movie Red Dawn? No? Might be worth watching.

  • Posted By: sandyshores10 @ 11/01/2008 7:14:51 PM

I haven't heard one thing about how high the cost of living will excell to make up for Obamas increased tyaxes. Will it even be worth the check after everything across the board goes up in price. Surley you don't think these costs won't trickle down to the consumer. Is that little check going to cover the increased costs in everything you buy?

It's true that both candidates have made false claims, and this article attempts to be unbiased by giving equal weight to both candidates, but what is missed is how frequent these false claims are made versus the same person making true statements or at least talking about what they are going to do rather than going negative on the opponent. I have read most transcripts of speeches made by the candidates and to give the two presidential candidates equal weight is grossly biased towards McCain.
Obama has made false claims, and has run false ads, but they are only a small part of a mostly positive campaign. He resorted to RoboCalls only to make a RoboCall to tell people not to believe RoboCalls. His misleading statements about McCain's policies have at least some basis in fact: for example, when he says McCain will reduce even further employer provided healthcare - that is true, and although it is not the whole story, it is worth pointing out to people who really don't want to lose/change their healthcare in these difficult times. I am not saying Obama is a paragon of virtue, but you would have a hard time finding a more positive campain in recent history. He has said very little about McCain's character or Palin's character - and we all know there is enough ammunition out there. Some of it may be spurious, but that does not stop his opponents. Obama said McCain was erratic, and I have yet to see anyone claim that was not true.
The McCain camp, meanwhile, has relied on almost nothing but lies and negativity. All we have heard from them is stuff about Ayers, socialism, tax creep, etc. : basically all the stuff that this article points out as false. And it has all been personal too. Joe the Plumber said that Obama's tax plan sounded like a socialist plan to him, yet all we have heard from McCain and friends is that Obama is a socialist and Joe agrees (except when questioned directly in an interview, when they back off like cowards.) They could have made some of these claims less personal, but they chose not to. I think that is racist since it is playing to people's fears of the non-white candidate.
Here is my (subjective, informal) BSometer for the P/VP candidates, which takes into account not only their lies but how often they tell outrageous lies versus talking about other stuff. Percentage of time lying:
    - Biden 5% ~~~ that is pretty darn low for any politician, and I didn't include waffle in the denominator.
    - Obama 20% ~~~ mostly the stuff covered in this article plus some obvious exagerations.
    - McCain 70% ~~~ he does talk about his policies some of the time, just not enough.
    - Palin 95% ~~~ sorry, I don't want to appear a Palin-basher but has she ever told the truth about anything? I gave her 5% because I am pretty sure she is not lying about her kids (although she won't release her medical records so you never know.)

    • Posted By: apiowlynn @ 11/01/2008 7:14:31 PM

by the way, everyone EXCEPT Obama has released their medical records, their official birth certificate, etc. If he has nothing to hide, why hasn't he?

    • Posted By: apiowlynn @ 11/01/2008 7:13:16 PM

talk about false claims! Obama's campaign has done NOTHING but bash the reps. and lie. Palin has executive experience and the record of accomplishments (lower taxes, balanced budget, etc) that I WANT in a politition. Don't you?

I hate to be the one to remind everybody about this but as most Americans will tell you an election is about who can spend the most money ,and who can tell the biggest and best lies and this is a sad and unfortunate truth.

    • Posted By: Oldschoolpaulie @ 11/01/2008 7:07:08 PM

Ah yes, and in lieu of Obama's Marxist philosphies, I think he should take the difference in his campaign monies and Mccains, split the difference, and give it to MCcain, in the itnerest of "Economic Justice."

  • Posted By: Tobucks @ 11/01/2008 7:07:00 PM

McCain says he will fight with the people to restore what this country has lost under the leadership of President Bush, but also acknowledges that his policies are no different from Bush's. Dah!

  • Posted By: TruthShoutsNotWhispers @ 11/01/2008 4:08:25 PM

    Goblue1968,

Not sure how to respond to what you wrote, but you're the nationality of the country of your birth. Kenya is in Africa. NE Africa has a huge mix of people who speak Arabic, French, English, and national tribal languages. If you were born in Switzerland, but you were raised by French speaking parents, would you be French?

More importantly, who'd care if Obama was 43.75% American-born Icelandic and 6.25% Australian and 1% Mohawk and 2% Freelance Writer and 19% Swiss Alpian? He's an American, and he's judged by the character of his person, not the color of his skin. Some simple American Civil Rights 411. Get with civil rights, or move out of the way for those of us who are rolling with it. Some day this great nation will have an American-born Japanese president, or an American-born Mexican president. 2008, almost 2009, it too late and too great for any of this ridiculous hate and fear.

    Get with it.

The rich were given tax breaks because of the stupid idea of the trickle down effect. That was a total failur, what they have they keep. I pay more taxes than the rich, I do not have kids, property or write offs, they have that and more. The percentage may be more but due to the write offs they pay far less in taxes.

      • Posted By: QuadEagle @ 11/01/2008 7:06:14 PM

sleepyo, that's ridiculous. The top 5% of wage earners pay 70% of the taxes and the lower 40% pay no tax at all. In the direction that we are going, a greater and greater percentage of Americans are going to have everything they have provided to them by someone else. Just keep taxing the ???rich??? and see who loses. Stop lapping up the Liberal propaganda and think it through for yourself.

I dont know about all of you out there but I feel we were robbed from the very beggining of this election process,I really dont like either canadite that is running, but of the two McCain is my pick. The primarys need changed so that they are like the general election where all states hold them on the same day, then everyone would have a chance to pick the canadite of thier choice, by the time our primary was held in PA. there was only McCain ,or Obama or Clinton not much choice now was there

This is the BEST video so far! An eye opening experience. Obama looks real nice and professional. Watch and learn....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sj91NH5fvw

  • Posted By: rckr @ 11/01/2008 6:58:46 PM

i hope that all persons taking part this tuesday in our great election process really take a moment to consider all that they know of both canadites and ask themselves who would really be the best 1 to put in here to not only run this great country but also defend us from all the extremist out there that would rather kill us than TALK to us around a table

  • Posted By: peterslate @ 11/01/2008 6:58:38 PM

This is why I don't read Newsweek anymore.
When I was younger, you used to be a great source of general information, not opinionated editorials.

Why would we go to FactCheck.org? Where are they located? CHICAGO Who was on the board of directors for years? OBAMA. It's another company Obama has his strong hold on. I wouldn't believe anything from them!
