I had a friend in school who was a Jehovah Witness and she did not stand to say the Pledge of Alligence because its against their beliefs. There are many people in America who are Jehovah Witnesses, born and raised American. I don't hear anyone telling them they are not American and if they run for any offices they won't vote for them.

Omama is not a Jehovah Witness.

I work for a sucessful world wide sweedish company right here in the US. I have been here for 3 years now working my way up. Right when I am going to go for my big promotion they cut a shift and my big job is now not going to be filled. As an american I want the american dream. I just bought a house. I can't afford to go to college or send my kids to college. I at this time can't even afford kids for that matter. So to see a bunch of people complaining about tax hikes for people making over 150,000 dollars a year is a bunch of bull ****. My wife is a teacher and we spend more money out of pocket to ensure the kids in her class get a good learning experience. So to hear people complaining about the taxes is crazy. We are barely scraping by at a combined income rate of 77,000 a year. Student loans for my wifes teaching degree is crazy. I mean for my wife to have to pay as much as she is to be a teacher, and help mold the minds of kids and to be told that she might not get a raise this year because it is not in the budget s absolutely crazy. As americans we need to sit back, stop arguing and spreading lies and deceit about the candidates and make the right decision, so we don't have another 8 years of failed economic policies and take america further in the crapper.

Why do you suppose that "they" can tell her she can't have a raise. Do some research, it is tied to salary ladders and tenure that is controlled in part by NEA or other teacher organizations. It does not allow great teachers to raise to the surface and be rewarded. I know I have been an educator and have opposed this way of paying teachers forever. No one listens.

factcheck, as usual, thank you for putting the facts out there; but, how would the average taxpayer "come out ahead," even with portable ins., with McCain's plan, even with all of the $2,500 (with no taxes taken out), even ins. costs more than that per year?

    Obama: Senior Scare:

RE: "This turkey draws in part from a newspaper story saying McCain would pay for the health plan with "major reductions to Medicare and Medicaid."

Why the unprofessional reference to Senator Barack Obama as a "turkey". Previous it was "that one". What is your next reference? Never mind I think we all know what is going on here.

I looked all over the US Constitution to see what it mentions about separation of church and state. It doesn't , except that it states Congress shall not create a national religion or prefer one over another, also cannot prevent the free excersise of religion.

That is right. Now why do you think the liberals are trying to sell us this distorted version?

Let Obama win.... you think the economy is in crisis now? I think itll make for an interesting 4 years if this less-than-capable bafoon makes office. Can you imagine..... Secretary of State Sharpton or Secretary of Treasury Jackson??? The whole world is lauging at us.

    • Posted By: vlamb @ 11/01/2008 5:46:07 PM

Actually the world is not laughing at all. Read up on European opinions.

And Obama is no buffoon at all. He is extremely well educated, has an analytical mind, a VERY disciplined temperament, keen instincts about human nature and the sense to choose [and listen to] good advisors.
Frankly, those are exactly the qualities I would want a President to have in a crisis. I'm not sure I understand why you think Sharpton or Jackson are relevant. Do you know something the rest of America doesn't know???

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama led the way with $21.4 million in spending between Oct. 21 and 28, including $4.6 million in Florida, $2.7 million in Pennsylvania and $2.5 million in Virginia. Republican nominee John McCain and the Republican National Committee spent a combined $14 million on ads, with $2.9 million going to Florida, $1.9 million to Pennsylvania and $1.8 million to Virginia. Where is Obama getting this money? I do not think that the working class is that generous with their hard earned money. Especially during these times where we can barely afford gas.

    • Posted By: ruckus @ 11/01/2008 5:45:56 PM

He's getting his money from people like me. I make less than $35k a year and I've donated almost $1k to his campaign. No I couldn't afford it but America can't afford another 4 years of Bush idealology and that's exactly what you're going to get if McCain in elected.

He's getting his money from people like me. I make less than $35,000.00 a year and I've donated almost $1000.00 to his campaign. No, I can't really afford it but America can't afford another 4 years of a Bush regime and that's exactly what we'll get if McCain is elected.

My concern is that ordinary people to not see through the false adds from both parties. They hear what they want to hear and believe. Obama is not a desendent of slaves. I would think better of him had he not worked for slum lords in Chicago. His interest do not rest with the common people no matter what their color. His interest is in power and money. His wife was right when she said they "were not ready". He has no track record and has voted more present than standing for anything. People in this country had better wake up. Bush is not responsible for the economic problems our country faces. If we want our military weakened and our world status put into jeoprady then we will elect a man who has no exerience, who refuses to salute our flag, doesn't like our National Anthem, and has said he will reduce our military and national defense systems. These are not Whoppers, but his actual words. I don't care if the man is green he doesn't deserve to be leader of the free world.

hey ding-a-lings. Check out snopes.com for another opinion on Obama's birthright.

    • Posted By: Frankie 14 @ 11/01/2008 5:32:25 PM

Speaking of ding-a-lings I checked out Snopes.com and came away with nothing more than the typical obama response of a possible forged certificate of record. It is real easy to forge things nowadays with computers. I and the American public would like to see the actual certificate and have it examined by experts. Remember the forged Bush National Guard documents. The left will stop at nothing to win--no scruples at all--see Ohio illegitimate voters.

      • Posted By: rudeboyjr @ 11/01/2008 5:36:36 PM

Yea Yea Yea, hanging chads in florida and mismanaged votes in Ohio put Bush in twice. The Right will say anything except what they will truthfully do and that is serve themselves to great big plates of money.

    • Posted By: rudeboyjr @ 11/01/2008 5:31:02 PM

I doubt there will be either of those things. This is NOT the America it was in the 60s and 70s when people actually did something to let the government know how they felt. This complacent, technologically distracted society let the country be sold to others countries while Americans sat back and did nothing. No matter who wins Americans will go back to sleep and soon will be bowing down to the rest of the world. Oh except all of the thieving CEOs and the Bush adminstrations who have stolen enough money to buy into the NEW WORLD ORDER. VOTE OBAMA!!

Who caused colapse of Wall Street and the housing market. The main force started in a class action lawsuit against Citibank in 1994 with Senator Obama as one of the leading attorneys claiming Citibank was not lending to poor people. Thus started the pressuring of banks by community organizations to make these infamous junk loans for fear they would be sued and thus down went wall street. Redistribution of wealth to poor lazy people caused it. That is the democrats forte, redistribution of wealth.

    • Posted By: ruckus @ 11/01/2008 5:35:20 PM

Bigfatboy you are so off base. It was nothing more than corruption and greed that caused the economic mess we're in now. I worked for a major mortgage company that eventually went bankrupt because all the predatory loans they helped create. They didn't care because they knew they were going to sell those loans to another financial institution, let the new owners worry about it. How could they do this you ask? Deregulation, something McCain supported until he realized that the fundamentals of our economy were no longer strong. Which is a realization he just recently came to. McCain has no earthly idea how the economy works and apparently neither do you.

As a disabled individual who was forced at the age of 53 to cease working, I now find myself at 65 with no savings left, multiple illnesses and a 76 year old wife facing a bleak future. The disablity insurance that has suplemented my social security disablity will cease when I turn 65.

As a supporter or Barry Goldwater who was rejected by his own party at the end, I find that my views have mostly stayed the same but now describe myself as a "Goldwater Democrat" The philosophies of the GOP are no longer grand but have taken money from individuals and states to create a system of greed and selfishness that has left the middle class crushed in its wake with the promise of "trickle down" dreams. We should have looked the the definition of trickle and realized that that's what we would be getting. Our states have lost control of their educational systems and funding as the money has gone from the states to the federal govenement while a trickle of their monies comes back to them. This is not the system that was established in the constitution. Our social services have suffered the same consequences and the end results have been a trickle of services that have destroyed many lives.

Yes it is time for a change a real change that restores this country to the dreams of our forefathers in the Constitution, please read the Constitution (it was required reading when I was in high school). I have been shocked by the many lies and distortions of both sides but mostly by the McCain camp. I am also shocked that there are so many who have believed them.

Have we as a country reached a point that we have to have a service like factcheck to tell us the falsehoods that come from the mouths of our candidated and resorted to electing our Chief Executive based on character assasination? It makes me cry for my country! Oh yes I am a vet who believed in the greatness of the country but no longer belives in the greatness of our leaders. Where have the statesmen gone who lived the Constitution?

Remember when Obama said he would NOT raise taxes on 95% of families or on annual incomes of $250,000 and under. SO, why has he and Joe Biden been lowering the supposed ceiling of $250,000 down to $200,000 (last week) then $150,000 (earlier this week) then yesterday they mentioned $127,000? Because, the top 5% earners include household incomes of $150,000 a year (according to US census)!

Obama also plans NOT to renew the Bush tax cuts (which expire in 2010) which means a tax raise for all families including those with household incomes of $42,000 and lower.

Remember the economy was fine until about 2 years ago when the democrats gained control of congress....

Remember when Bill pledged he would not raise taxes during his campaign? Before he entered the white house, as president elect, he started backing off that "promise". His first 2 years taxes went up up up! It wasn't until we got fed up and voted in a republican congress did we see spending curbed and under control--remember the "contract with america" spear headed by Newt?

Obama and Biden are far left of even Hillary. They have a proud record of rasing taxes on everyone throught their career. What makes you think they will change now...their words?

    • Posted By: solorsq @ 11/01/2008 5:28:47 PM

My wife and I made one heck of alot of money when Clinton was in office, regardless of taxes. The economy was 1000 times better than it has been with G.W. It will take a decade or more to recover from the existing financial crisis. Someone needs to explain to me how before Hurricane Ike and the current financial crisis, gasoline has gone from nearly $4 a gallon to below $2 a gallon. Where was G.W. when gas and oil was skyrocketing,. must of been with his Skull and Bones buddies. G.W. has not made good on any of his election or re-election promises. Why would anyone even remotely believe that McCain/Palin will be any different.

Sen. Obama will win the election. He is a great speech writer and delivers his speeches with compassion. This reminds me of a leader in Germany few years ago -- he was an actor and no experience but, can deliver good speeches -- he also used the media to his advantage. Same with the previous Cuban leader, he had political science degree, no military experience but can give good speeches to his people-- And - used the media to market his leadership. Obama used his Community Organizing skills to strengthen his campaign -- that's why HIllary lost. When asked by his adviser on how he can win votes," I make good speeches, don't worry about that " replied Obama. -- He became senator afterward.

Honestly, people who are standing by the words that have been spewed these last few months (both parties), just throw off to the side. I read these blogs, and I think maybe the current state of affairs makes people latch onto some key words. I hear reports say "Obama is just stronger on the economy." Did I miss something? I think the better commentary would be "I BELIEVE Obama will be the better candidate to rescue our economy. If these bloggers are so wise, please, take a government job and help us out! If you are just loyal to your party, that's o.k., loyalty is a good thing, but just don't let it blind your judgement. For L9WP, I think AA has leveled the playing field considerably.

This moronic scumbag Samuel J. Wurzelbacher "Joe the Plumber" had his AZ driver license suspended

    http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/128323

Wurzelbacher, who lived in Mesa in 2000 and had an Arizona driver's license, had his driver's license suspended by the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division on May 4, 2000, following a nonpayment of a court-imposed fine for civil traffic violations, according to court records.

...owes nearly $1,200 in back taxes, according to public records, still owes more than $700 to the Mesa court system.

Records show he was cited for failure to stop at a red light and for failure to provide proof of insurance on Feb. 9, 2000, in a black Dodge truck at the intersection of Dobson and Baseline roads in Mesa.

After failing to pay his original fine of $627.50 issued in March 2000, his license was suspended and the fine was handed over to a collection agency along with a 16 percent surcharge. The now-resident of Holland, Ohio, still owes $727.90 to the Mesa Municipal Court, according to court records.

Hopefully the collection agency will break both of his legs so he'll never be able to walk nor work ever again. This typical Republican scumbag deserves it.

    • Posted By: projectedorb6 @ 11/01/2008 5:28:20 PM

Speaking of moronic, what makes you think it's o.k. to break somebody's legs so they can never work again? Do you have a bias against plumbers or Republicans? Actually, last I heard, he was still one of the "undecided" voters. Then again, if he can never work again perhaps we shoud vote in more Democrats. After all it's their mission in life to take care of all of us so we don't have to take care of ourselves and don't have to take on any responsibilities that may be "too hard" or might interfere with our right to NOT contribute to the society in which we live. Last I heard, not paying taxes and breaking traffic laws are not capitol offenses. Practice a little restraint or up your meds.

I agree with DennCiot. Even if Obama was not born in the U. S,, he is still a citizen because his mother is an American citizen. Barack Obama is a very intelligent man and so are the people who work with him. Do you really think he would have gotten this far and not be a citizen? Come on now. I am so tired of all of these rumors going around about him. He is an American citizen. He is a Christian. If he were a Muslim, why would that be a big deal. I don't remember there being any religious requirements for being President.. I think all of these rumors are fostered by small minded people who don't want to give him a chance because he's black. But he's only half black mind you, and he was raised by the white side of his family. Do you think that he's going to do anything that catastrophic to hurt the white people of our country if he's elected? I think just the opposite. I think he''s going to try to help ALL people because he is multicultural. He is the perfect mix to ensure understanding of both sides. This is the first time in history when we are possibly goin g to have a president that TRULY understands what is like to be both white and black in this coulntry. We gave all of the other presidents (all white) a chance. My God! Give the man a break!

  • Posted By: mstiffanyd @ 11/01/2008 5:27:12 PM

I think McCain and/or Obama could led this country towards a more positive direction than the last 8 years. I think that some of the americans (especially the most recent post" welcome the "white" vs "black" scenerios to keep racism alive. If this race was between Clinton and McCain it would have been "man" vs "woman". Anything to be negative and show hatred towards each other. At the end of the day Obama or McCain will not help your personal ecomony/finances - we all must take steps to improve our own lives. If you can't feed your family or keep a roof over your head you will not be able to call either of them personally for help. To question Obama's citizenship is crazy since the vast majority of our acestors came from all over the world. People WAKE UP this is about YOU making the necessary changes in your life. This is about YOU not McCain or Obama. Be honest and ask yourself - if you closed your eyes and listen to Obama's message and took race out equation would you feel the same way?
