Too bad Barbara Bush had not had the legal option to abort in 1946.

Uh, no, the EU doesn't want to see that. A struggling American economy negatively impacts the EU, too.

Uh-Huh? Then why is Barry touting protectionist policies to the unions in Ohio? Doesn't sound as though that would be palatable to the Eu-Pu, eh?

Yeah, but they still want Barry Boy to win. How's that for an Oxy-Moron?
They want us to recover, but they are rooting for Dr. Mengele.

The major threat facing American growth is the Republican party and their moronic policies. They ignore health care or come up with some half-baked scheme like McCains. They ignore infracstructure. The list is endless.

Taxing TaxPayers paying 40% of the Tax Dollar is more than half baked, it's half-gassed. Giving Non-TaxPayers a Tax Refund is all-gassed.
And guess who will wind up paying, eh? It ain't going to be Barry's Buddies.

  • Posted By: ploughman @ 11/02/2008 7:43:20 PM

Two things. We need to get tough on health-care costs. We're #1 with a bullet on costs but #37 overall and have some very poor results considering the huge amount of money we're spending. The system is broken, and we can't just keep paying. Personally I think we need to boot the insurance companies and negotiate prices down with the pharmaceuticals; if they whine about R&D we can just increase the NIH budget by the amount the private companies were spending (as they get the public research for free...socialize the costs, privatize the profits).

The other thing is don't count inflation out. We can't just keep borrowing like crazy and flooding the world with dollars without that coming back to bite us. There's already evidence that some foreign creditors are saying 'no more' after getting burned on securitized mortgages. Many have said that if it was any other country but the U.S., we'd be talking about an IMF bailout now.

Well, one thing we know. Obama won't be a good thing if your working in the coal industry, an industry that uses coal or electricity generated from coal, or in a coal producing State. In a taped interveiw in January, Obama states:

"So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can," Obama said. "It's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

  • Posted By: amy04790460 @ 11/02/2008 7:25:17 PM

The matter of Obama's birthplace should be a public record. I can go to the State Capitol of AZ and find the brith certificate of anyone born within its borders. So has anyone looked this up in HI?

McCain supporters will have to worry about what to eat if McCain wins since he will continue to bankrupt the USA to where Iraq and terrorists will take 2nd p[lace to their empty stomachs when they have no jobs and any related health insurance and McCain cuts off unemployment benefits to balance the budget and ensure no aliens get benefits. Of course they could just buy insurance being touted by McCain- but wait w'o a job -no money to buy it !!!True evangelicals need to pray for Obama's win.

Lets not forget the Court, with cases like Kelo v. City of New London, 545 U.S. 469 (2005),

What does redistributive mean. Well, remember that it was the liberal Left-Wing Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court that brought us this little jewel, holding that the government could take your real property, like your home, not for public use like a road or school, but to give to another private individual, such as a political contributor or other party hack or interest group.

Kelo v. City of New London, 545 U.S. 469 (2005), was a case decided by the Supreme Court of the United States involving the use of eminent domain to transfer land from one private owner to another to further economic development. The case arose from the condemnation by New London, Connecticut, of privately owned real property so that it could be used as part of a comprehensive redevelopment plan. The Court held in a 5-4 decision that the general benefits a community enjoyed from economic growth qualified such redevelopment plans as a permissible "public use" under the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment. Justice John Paul Stevens wrote the majority opinion; he was joined by Justices Anthony Kennedy, David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer

The decision was widely criticized by American politicians and the general public. Many members of the general public viewed the outcome as a gross violation of property rights and as a misinterpretation of the Fifth Amendment, the consequence of which would be to benefit large corporations at the expense of individual homeowners and local communities. Some in the legal profession construe the public's outrage as being directed not at the interpretation of legal principles involved in the case, but at the broad moral principles of the general outcome.

It's true we are progress junkies, but I see no reason for that not to continue.
Given the quality of life we now enjoy compared to just 70 years ago, and I'm old enough to remember Amos and Andy and the Shadow.
As someone noted it seems to always be greed that gets in the way and the last eight years are clear evidence of that.
Greed replaces vision or greed becomes the vision rather than the advancement of quality of life for everyone.
People like Henry Ford and Thomas Edison had a vision that transformed society, lately we have CEO's and a few Presidents whos vision for themselves or for the few transformed society but for the worst, Nixon Reagan and Bush come to mind.

The fact we have moved backwards is not something we have to accept nor should we. There are people out there who have vision.
Barak Obama is one and his impact on America will be profound and appreciated for generations, but so are people like Those behind Tesla Motors, who are taking the dreams of Henry ford to the next better level.

One has to give Bill Gates credit for being a visionary, he took a high tech application and applied it to everyday needs that I as a small business owner or any business owner has to truly appreciate making us much more efficient.

I have no doubt there are thousands of People out there whose vision is greater than money itself, It is these people who will take us to a new and better America and that is progress, and will occur inspite of the Republican claim there is no turning back.

Sarah palin when asked about becoming vp responded

"As for that VP talk all the time, I tell you, I still can't answer that question until somebody answers for me, 'what is it exactly that the VP does every day......"

Around a week ago she was asked again and this time said

They in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.

WRONG THE VP IS THERE TO STEP IN IF SOMTHING HAPPENS TO THE PRESIDENT ONLY THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH POLICY AND THEY DONT RUN THE SENATE!!

If she doenst understand the job why would we give her the job

Mccain has around a 40 percent chance because of his age in not being able to
As many as half the people between 72 and 76 are disabled or die
Hopefully mccain would be the exception but picking palin was about as smart as picking any other mrs Alaska contestant.
Thanks for making sure the rest of us are ok if something happens to you John
America cant take the chance of being run by someone that cant understand basic issues
    NOT RIGHT NOW
Its not just that we disagree with her answers in alot of cases she doesnt understand basic questions
like what is the bush doctrine, or what do you read. She falls apart if you ask a follow question she hasnt memorized
    These are not gotcha questions!!!
One of advisors recently said not only was she unqualified but said mccain picked her after 1 interview of about a hour
and that even at mcdonalds you get 3 interviews.
Members of her own campaign called her a diva and a whack job.
They would know better then anyone else right now.

So mccain gambled and he lost big. He ended up with a girl without a clue
But whats interesting is the top of the ticket could never disagree with what i am saying
because mccain could never read this blog he cant use a computer at all.
So hopefully fixing the economy would not require research or email
I mean his wife has 100 million dollars get him classes or something.

Am i crazy or do we want a computer literate president and a vp who can answer a least basic questions.
If you read the rest of the articles on this site you would think the world is about to end
So if thats the case these are the last 2 people you want running anything.

    Propaganda anyone?

Some of us built businesses, paid employees, and paid taxes at the highest rate under the Reagan tax structure for well over a decade, and didn't mind or consider those who paid less ignorant, naïve or paying too little.

Naive is to be afraid of the expiration of the Bush tax give away to the rich, and think that is "raising taxes" that will in any way keep business people from creating and building businesses.

It's just what, before John McCain fell behind in the election, McC called "irresponsible" because it "benefits only the rich???.

McC now has sold out to the Bush machine that enabled the megarich to loot trillions from our country, while they pay taxes well below what they did under Reagan.

But worse, McC wants to give additional billions of tax give aways to the oil companies, the one's that just reported the biggest quarterly pofits in the history of the world, breaking the then newest record they set the quarter before.

The McC/Bush propaganda machine has duped anyone who thinks the McC tax position does anything but further enrich the megarich, and think that is to your benefit.

The real threat to us is the Bush/McC propaganda machine that misinforms and scares people into voting to perpetuate the looting of our country by the megarich.

McCain war no one has the gusts for, we must stand up and fight, fight for what exactly. People stood up and fought for Iraq to win contracts to rebuild Iraq after the invasion. What did they get? dead people and the only winners was grave diggers, and coffin manufactureres. And to add to the American debts another 10 Billion per month. And we are heading towards the dark ages at full speed ahead.

Iraq, Iran, and Afganistan, Pakistan, and now trying it with Russia, and there is the Israeli and Palestinian issue. It sounds like America don't know when to say hell we have dug our saelves in deep.

Then there is the Recession and a Super Power is out there with its begging bowl, along with Britain begging the very people they were trying to kill because they are a different religion for money.

Begging them to buy up businesses in the UK and America why should they buy them so they can freeze their assect a few years down the line, who in their right mind wopuld buy into this corruption and what for?.

Look at what they did to their won citizens, the Wall Street corruption, the crimes committed against their own working classes. Why would the Arab world be treated any different.

Actually, the winners in the Iraq war where the people who profited from it. Haliburton, the nefarious Blackwater Group and Carlyle Group, Arms Dealers, Bush and Cheney's cronies and their Oil profits, they continue to profit and will as long as Neo Cons are in our Government making deals through secrecy and nepotism and favors to crooked CEOs with their financial monopolies under various names and their golden parachutes. Time to voete the bums out.

    THE GREAT BUSH DEPRESSION
I follow an economist named Bob Proctor. He has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
He perfectly predicted the current meltdown and the picture he paints about what will happen next
is terrifying. He thinks it will be worse then the great depression.
The banks in the U.S. are going under one after the other. Countrywide ,Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch , Fanny and Freddy Mae ,AIG
The government took them over because they are bankrupt. Even with the goverment nationalizing hundreds of billions of dollars in debt the stock market is crashing
the credit markets are frozen and all of us may suffer beyond anything seen in generations
McCain just like Bush " doesn't understand the economy".
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix it but he does not understand how its been broken.
It is no surprise that he doesn't. The people that make up these securities use quantum mathematical models very few people understand.
Bush and McCain both can take the credit for this mess since they helped deregulate the laws that were protecting us.
Bush's economic advisor Phil Graham wrote the deregulation bill that allowed banks to take huge risks with all of our future.
Now, Phil Graham is the head of McCain's economic policy. He is also McCain's choice for the next secretary of the treasury.
No one in this country can afford for that to happen. The last time Bush met with his economic advisors was in March. He was the last to know somthing was wrong. Phil Graham had the guts to say that we are in a mental recession after he helped create the worst economy meltdown in our lifetime. Check out this link to the truth http://my.barackobama.com/keatingvideo
It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this nightmare. As bad as Bush has done, McCain would be
even more destructive because things are in much worse shape. The next president will not inherit a budget surplus like Bush did but a crashing economy and a 11,600,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars deficit. Most of it Bush created and it will take decades to pay it back.
If you do what you have always done then you will get what you have always got.
When it comes to policy Bush and McCain are the same 90 percent of the time.
So why are the polls even close then ?
Mccains team just said they no longer want to talk about the economy.Instead they would like to spend time talking about obama
which means running the biggest smear campaign in history.
They think they can just tell you lies and you wont be smart enough to see through it
Let's teach him we are smarter than that
Stand up and hold them accountable
Bush isn't on the ballot this year but his policies are
    Elect Obama Biden 2008

Mr. Samuleson misses the point. The issue is greed and corruption, not affluence. Everyone wants to be affluent. However, when the markets and financial institution reeks with corruption and greed, our concern becomes personal financial survival. I, like millions of Americans have seen our 401k as retirement profits evaporate in the last few months. We are no longer concerned with affluence but with our financial survival. Mr. Obama seems to respond to that concern by removing the greed and corrution from the financial markets. As a life-long republican, he has my vote.

Obama has left no room for doubt that his political philosophy is informed by both socialism and racism. He will most certainly quickly (the deficit is not an issue and he will have both houses) push through massive government spending and social programs to benefit his constituents and create yet more dependent voters or his next run in 2012. Any real study of Obams career and writings to date would support this. As socialism takes hoild, it will still be several years before Americans look at their after tax income with surprise and trepidation. At this point, the desire to start a small business will be put off or postponed for many young people. It will be simpler and safer to just get a job. And a government jos with strong employment protections and few demands on creativity will be most sought after. Entrepreneurship and risk taking will will quickly become something "somebody else" does. ( Does anyone ever speak of a German entrepreneur? Or a Canadian risk taker?) . That world famous and much depended on American inovation will sink into the miasma of government "inovation" and government "risk investment".
As a country, Americans are currently inclined to define themselves as others see them as in Obama's unseemly obsequious speech to throngs of Germans thrilled with the idea of America's comeuppance in Iraq and joining of the liberal EU thinking. Americans seem to be unable or ,unwilling to understand that a deeply socialist EU is mostly envious and definitely resentful of American ingenuity and American independance. Both of which are turning out to be myths. What is the problem with socialism? It simply creates a dependant and docile population. Those around the world cheering for Obama are not cheering for his win as much asthey are chhering a Republican defeat. A week and aquiescent America seems much more to their liking.

To all of the conservatives out there who think that Obama is a flaming liberal, I would like to remind you of what he did when he was elected President of the Harvard Law Review. The Law Review President gets to name ten individuals to write articles for the Review, and these ten people get to control the content of the publication. All of the minorities and the liberals thought they finally had it made, that Obama would appoint ten left wing editors. Instead, Obama appointed three conservatives, three liberals and four moderates. That year the Law Review was critically acclaimed as the best run and best written Harvard publication in decades.

So when he wins in November, conservatives don't have to freak out. Obama is a centrist and will appoint a balanced cabinet full of active people who will really get things done. Kind of like the way our multi-cultural society is supposed to be. And exactly what we need in this time of economic crisis.

    • Posted By: RockRibbedConservative @ 11/02/2008 3:02:26 PM

What political persuasion would put anything such as the following, be considered?

Barack Obama told the San Francisco Chronicle that he was willing to see the coal industry go bankrupt in a January 17, 2008 interview.

Let me sort of describe my overall policy.

What I've said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else's out there.

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted.

That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches.

The only thing I've said with respect to coal, I haven't been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a (sic) ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can.
It's just that it will bankrupt them.

My problem with this article is the fact that it is MORE important to the media and the public as to how information was obtained about an illegal alien of criminal residence for four years who is, incidentally, closely related to a candidate for the President of this country can POSSIBLY be MORE important than the fact that this illegal alien has been in phone contact with this same candidate in the last year and that he has LIED THAT HE KNEW such a situation existed.
Um.... let me see now, certainly there is no bias here. Surely not.
Which is more important: a true LIE or an EXPOSURE of a true lie?
It is also unfortunate that Obama is unable to obtain his birth certificate which proves the legal citizenship of his birth in order to not only RUN for the Presidency, but to also have been granted it by the media ahead of time. What legal transaction can an average American citizen participate in without showing a birth certificate, which is easily obtainable?
Of course, there is no bias here. Surely not.
After he is elected and it is finally known what happened to his birth certificate and the election of his ticket is illegal, exalting Nancy Pelosi as President by default, maybe then everyone will be more thorough.
George Bush stole the election from Gore. Obama will steal it from all Americans.
