Assimillation might begin with the elimination of the divisive "M" word: "minority" (Newsweek used it liberally). It lumps together people of different ethnicities who have differing perspectives and problems, and it sets up an unreasonable opposite: "Whites." Whites in America consist of a diverse collection of mostly European tribes, many of whom do not get along to this day. In truth America is the land of minorities and to use that name only for those of darker skin color is a disservice to the principles we espouse so loudly.

I don't want to hear anymore crap about whites keeping blacks down. A black man in the oval office renders that argument moot.

Barack Obama is not a product of the black culture Patterson is talking to. Although many more blacks voted in this election than ever before, this election was not an emphatic declaration by the black community that they are publicly integrated. Obama is a black man who does not necessarily represent the historical black community whose political success was more attributable to the turnout of youth, latinos, and males than any triumph of african americans.

I greatly admire Orlando Patterson and his master work Freedom was always my favorite work. However, I do feel Patterson is way too charitable to the man who disgraces our $ 20 dollar bill - Andrew Jackson.

First of all, Andrew engaged in ethnic cleansing and genocide. He expelled all of the Cherokee to Okalhoma. Thousands of Cherokee died on the trail of tears. Worse, even though Supreme Court Justice John Marshall ruled in favor of the Cherokee, Andrew Jackson defied the Supreme Court decision. Jackson's ethnic cleansing inspired Slobodan Milosovic of the former Yugoslavia, not to mention the ethnic cleansings of Sudan and Darfur. Let's also add Adolf Hitler to Andrew Jackson's list of star students.

Secondly, Andrew Jackson owned slaves. Apologists claim that Andrew Jackson was "kind" to his slaves. I"d just suggest that these apologists read American classics such as Uncle Tom's Cabin or Toni Morrison's Beloved. The themes behind both of these novels is that there is no such thing as a "kind" slave owner. In fact, the "kindest" slave owners are really the cruelest.

Equally misguided were Andrew Jackson's scatterbraided decision to eliminate the US Bank, which led to a massive depression, and his philosophy of spoilys system politics which issued an era of unprecedented corruption remedied only by the establishment of a non-partisan civil service.

I'd strongly suggest we find a replacement for Andrew Jackson on our $ 20 bill.

Racism will exist as long as blacks continue to use the slang terms that effectively started the racism in the first place. Take it from someone who has a mixed son and grandson. I do not condone whites racially charged comments any more than I like blacks doing it to blacks. I think that we will all get a long better when blacks quit blaming uncle tom for all their problems. We have equal access to everything american, jobs, education homes ect... black even more so due to affirmative action laws that require hiring based on racial statistics. In the city where I live it is predominately a black community and I see more blacks working in public places than any other race. If you want to work there is a job for you however you must for go the goverment benefits to get it and that is the problem with black community. As long as you think you are owed the slower you will make the transition into mainsteam america. If you do not think the goverment is doing enough for you right now, you have Bill Clinton to thank for it. My parents who have worked their whole life live on a combine total income of 1800.00 month in social security benefits and have 230.00 a month more going out each month trying to live on their own and can not qualify for food stamps utility bill assistance or perscription assistance because they make 3.00 to much per month! As for the guy that wants to rag on joe the plumber and all his indescretions ,your crack pipes callin sounds like someone is callin the kettle black.

What the fu*k are you babbling about? How in the hell do blacks keep racism going? You honkies are a nasty, filthy race of racists who won't even exist in a century or so. Watch how fast racism goes with you--moron.

Intersting that second generation Asians and Hispanics are assimilating. I just moved to Chicago a year ago from LA and I am APALLED by the RACIAL SEGREGATION of the city.........
I'm an atty and it is OK to mingle during work but at the end of the day my black perrs (the few that are atty's) go back to "their" neighborhoods.
They may make $150,000 a year but STILL live in predominately Black neighborhoods in Hyde Park and on the South Side of Chicago.
What this article also does not mention is that Black have the highest # of AIDS cases as well as highest crime rates. i beleive that most people deal with Black a certain way because of these statistics. People are just protecting themselves. A lot needs to change in the Blackk community also. A lot of poor Blacks need to get rid of the notion that the US OWES them something because of slavery.

ASians and Hispanics are rapidly thinning out the black population in CA especially SoCal. Compton was once a black stronhold neighborhood but is noe mostly Hispanic.

And how do you deaql with other Blacks encouraging the black youth to live a negative lifestyle as influenced through music, movies and the behavior of Athletes

Obama's plan for jobs on Pennsylvania, West Virginia and other coal producting states, and Obama's plan for dealing with the high cost of energy, including electricity generation.

An audiotape of an interview Barack Obama did in January 2008 with The San Francisco Chronicle has surfaced in the final days of the presidential campaign. On the tape Obama tells the interviewer how he will use environmenal laws to kill the Coal industry,

"so if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can ... It's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

Also says he's policy will cause price of electricity to skyrocket.

Now, why would Obama say that in San Francisco and not Pennsylvania? We've seen him do that before, right? Something about guns and religion.

And why did Newsweek take their story on the Pennsylvania campaign down Sunday after this story broke?

This post is about the article...for a change..
Most non-racists americans don't have a problem voting for such an incredibly intelligent, well spoken and democratic human being as Obama. The problem, I think, is that the african americans population are the ones making this campaign a racial issue, not the other way around.
By Obama winning the election, means something different for the majority of the african american voters. It is not necessarily because facts have been researched on one candidate and the other on the issues that matter....but, merely, the only issue is to elect the first african american president.
Luckily, I think, we have the right candidate to take us to the difficult times ahead of us. Obama has promised to fairly raise taxes to the welathy in order to be able to pay for the federal programs and try to reduce the debt (the money has to come from somewhere). The healh care plan... most of us think it needs more twinking and less nationalization but more accessability. Regarding the nationl security, I am going to trust Biden, our defense forces, the congress and senate to advise and help our nation recover our respect but at the same time continue our responsibilities with our allies. I believe that diplomacy has proven to go a long way. the economy? democrats and republicans alike have made this mess happen. Therefore, republicans and democrats must work together in fixing it.
I just hope Obama delivers what he promises rather than this nation finding out the hard way...that Reverend Wright was telling us the truth, that Obama's reference to this grandmother being racist was heartfelt (rest in peace).. that Obama's liason with Bill Ayers and the PLO was very real...
Note: My point about majority of african american voting for Obama and the reason has been researched and polls have been taken..is not an opinion.

Being black, with a funny name, being a freshman senator does NOT SPELL PRESIDENCY....He has the entitlement mentality, just as Feinstein said.....He would NEVER be in the position he finds himself in, IF HE WERE NOT BLACK..... and that, MY FRIENDS, is the TRUTH............. McCain/Palin '08

Obama earned his degree it wasn't given to him, he paid his was through school and he was voted by his peers to be the President of the Harvard Law review, he earned the democratic nomiation. It's unfortunate that you don't view an educated person as an asset, because of their race. If Obama was a white republican man with the same creditentials, there would be issue. McCain was fine until he started a smear campaign against Obama instead of dealing with the issues of the American people. As for Palin stepping in as a President if something happens to McCain you are kidding me right?

Comment: In this deceitful American game of power politics, ture Black Americans are nothing but tools, used by one group of whites called Liberals against another group of whites called Conservatives, either to get into power or to remain in power. Among whites here in America, the political teams are no longer divided into Democrats and Republicans. The whites who are now struggling for control of the American political throne are divided into "liberal" and "conservative" camps. The white liberals from both parties cross party lines to work together toward the same goal, and white conservatives from both parties do likewise.
The white liberal differs from the white conservative only in one way: the liberal is more deceitful than the conservative. The liberal is more hypocritical than the conservative. Both want power, but the white liberal is the one who has perfected the art of posing as friend of blacks and its benefactor; and by winning the friendship, allegiance, and support of the Blacks, the white liberal is able to use this race of people as a pawn or tool in this political "football game" that is constantly raging between the white liberals and white conservatives.
So what do I feel about Barack (Barry) Obama , I think the chickens need to come home to roost and justice will begin to unfold on those who have mislead to get ahead in this political arena of lies. Barack is dirty he has use every trick in the book and now he will be president to a system of lies and greed. As far as race goes this man will never in my lifetime be equal to me and my status of a Black American, and I think race need to do it part in sheading light on people like Barry Obama. I just hope he suffer the same faith as others before him has when you cheat to get ahead..........in the most sustainable way. Justice will be when Obama faces his own chicken and the rooster sounds off on anything that he touches. When his oversize ego catches up with him and his followers then and only then will justice prevails.....I wish him nothing but misery and defeat and if liberal Americans are willing to follow him, they too shall be dismissed. Maybe we can get lucky and we can remember him one day.

The problem with Obama is a simple one. One association does not a radical make. But in Obama's case, the list of left-wing radical mentors and associates is seemingly endless, (Davis, Ayers, Wright, Khalidi , etc., etc.) with a new revelation practically every day. With that trend, a picture begins to emerge, and that picture is that Obama is as steeped, not in just left-wing political thought, but in radical left-wing economic and race ideology, to the same extent that Pat Robertson was steeped in the ideology of the radical Religious Right. I would not have voted for Pat Robertson for dog catcher, and for similar reasons, I will not vote for Obama.

  • Posted By: Nowforsomemoretruth @ 11/03/2008 10:10:00 PM

In the exchange with "Joe the plumber" Obama unintentionally revealed that he really is as radical as his early political mentors and acquaintances, Davis, Ayers, Wright, Khalidi etc., (gee, there sure seem to be a lot of them) and that he is into the failed economic policy of wealth redistribution. Now there is absolute proof. In 2001, Obama, the "community organizer" turned legislator, said in an interview:

"And I think one of the tragedies of the civil rights movement was that the civil rights movement became so court-focused, I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and organizing activities on the ground that are able to bring about the coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change, and in some ways we still suffer from that,"

    2001 Chicago Public Radio Interview.

Obama's tax and spending plans alone would be bad enough, but add Reid and Pelosi to the mix, with the three of them controlling both houses of Congress and the executive branch without any effective restraint, and you have something that should causes concern even among moderate Democrats.
See Wall Street Journal: A Liberal Supermajority:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122420205889842989.html

Indeed, some democrats are publically saying as much. See Barney Franks comments on the news, including face the nation last week, stating essentially that Democrats in Congress intend to greatly raise taxes and go on a spending spree.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJGnSAlqjoU

    See http://www.taxfoundation.org/blog/show/23617.html

Obama's ill-conceived programs will require him to tax, and his health care plan alone is a substantial hidden tax on all business, large an small. In reality, it does not really matter who he taxes, those taxes are going to be passed through the economy. He has to tax, because it is they only way he can pay for his massive social engineering experiments. Any first year economics student knows that taxation is a tool used to contract an economy experiencing inflation, because it reduces demand by reducing the amount of money individuals and businesses have to spend. It is contractionary, which is exactly what you do not want to do when the problem is that the economy is contracting already into recession. Like Hoover and FDR, Obama's plans will only make it worse for longer.

Even Bill Clinton says so. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsynspIqAoE
Obama and a supermajority of Democrats simply is not the change we need, nor is it change we can afford.

In desperation the McCain-Palin camp is stepping up their negative ads and dirty politics, again totally concentrating on the disgusting scare and smear tactics. They are depending on throwing out a lot of garbage and really just hoping something sticks. Voters??? common sense should prevail and simply render the low-class efforts as recognized and rejected. There are so many clear indications of the true nature of their continuing efforts that they should simply reflect negatively on McCain and Palin, such as: the obvious desperate attempts with previously discredited attacks; attacks of a highly fictionalized nature; their own neglect to address the issues with real specific solutions; their trying to fault Obama-Bidden and then just expecting voters to trust McCain-Palin, as if they have some (unproven) creditability; John McCain???s over use of the pronoun ???I???, as if it is just all about him; Sarah Palin???s obnoxious and arrogant disregard for honesty; John McCain???s poor judgment, with examples being displayed as the financial crisis unfolded and in his selecting Sarah Palin; Sarah Palin???s displayed lack of any real qualification; their grabbing at faulting George W Bush after strongly supporting him for eight years and even recently declaring that they ???had the same philosophies???; their copying most everything Obama identifies as being a problem and a needed direction; their changing their positions frequently; their lack of class and quality throughout their campaign, especially after John McCain promised better; their really offering only more of the same covered over with the very empty promise of change; and on and on. It is all there for any objective and rational person to see and then, we really just can???t withstand more of the same!

I do not beleive it is desperation as you claim. Do low income americans want something different? I think so however Obama is not the answer. He has flip flopped more than anyone in this campaign. I still do not know what he is going to do. I do know that he has a problem telling the truth and like a smooth con man has you all fooled. Just so you know 40% of americans pay no taxes at all. 50% of working people make less than 32 grand a year. If you think Taxing the companies that make all the money ubder his spread the wealth policy unemployment will be over 11% jobs that we our trying to create here will in fact be made overseas and we will become a 3rd world country financially at the end of his 1st term in office. Obama is not the 2nd comming of Jesus Christ himself. he is not the savior of all things black or america as a whole. He will be however the 2nd comming of the great depression and if you have any money anywhere it better be in the matress if he get's elected. remember he got more campaign contributions than anyone in american history because he is a liar.

    The McCain Campaign:

John McCain has proven himself in this campaign to be an angry low road politician who failed miserably to show himself to be a fair and decent individual, with the stature to rise to the Office of the Presidency. And, as for Palin? What great judgement.

Leading a campaign that (even though major news orgs constantly debunked his ads) almost exclusively resorted to the constant barrage of outright lies, distortions, and the sleaziest of attack ads. Showing himself, instead, to be a little man, he displays a nasty, divisive and confrontational attitude with limited vision and dimension of thinking. He is minimally accomplished as a statesman and, as shown by his own actions, is conspicuously absent of the temperament and the diplomatic and leadership skills necessary to adequately represent and lead this nation in promoting international respect and cooperation on the future world stage.

The United States can do much better than John McCain, On Tuesday, I am betting a majority of the nation will agree.

Of course, ALL racial issues in the United States are solely the fault of whites. Uh-Huh. Get off it already. Mr. Patterson is clearly setting up the next argument the cult of victimology will make - now that an African-American may become President, thus shattering (disintingrating, actually) the last barrier that was claimed to be in place. That next argument seems to be shaping up as 'You didn't invite us over for tea, and that's why we aren't as successful as you'. What utter rot. Mr. Patterson - and others - cling to old, bygone racial arguments because to do otherwise would force them to examine the true facts of the situation - facts that have nothing to do with repression and everything to do with culture.

White America does not force African-Americans to get divorced, have children out of wedlock, value shoes more than education, or see gangsta rap as a viable form of cultural outlet. African-American 'culture' does that all by itself.

The simple fact is that America is at heart a meritocracy, where 'freedom' means not only freedom to succeed, but freedom to fail as well. The fact that many do fail (accross all racial lines) is simply a by-product of that merticocracy.

In part, what makes America and 'western' (for lack of a better term) so successful is the ability to self-criticize - that is, look st a given set of actions in response to a particular situation, and make a determiniation about what worked and what didn't so that next time it can be done better. African Americans seem particularly unwilling to do this; rather than a degree of self-criticism, they fall back on 'racism', and leave it at that, an intellectually lazy and morally unsupportable position.

As a European American who always considered himself sympathetic to the plight of non-whites in America, I will tell you this: If Barack Obama gets elected tomorrow (and I am planning to vote for him myself), the racism argument is right out. Forget about it. If Obama made it - not just to success but to the Presidency - then there are no barriers in society. Period.

So get over your tired old arguments, stop whining about unfair it all is, pick yourselves up and get to work. And if you do, you will find yourselves not only more successful, not only more satified, but you'll get invited for tea, too.

    • Posted By: GingerBaque418 @ 11/03/2008 8:47:10 PM

The fact that one black man makes it all the way to the presidency does NOT mean that racism does not exist!! It is still harder for many black Americans to succeed in America- due to socioeconomic and cultural factors. Your argument does not seem very intelligent to me. I think you are using a lot of stereotypes here- talking about babies out of wedlock, not getting enough education, and rap as excuses as to why you think blacks are lazy and seem to deserve their hardships. i know of lots of white young boys and girls who fit that stereotype as well. Everyone deserves the same opportunities and that is not what America is now offering. I hope to see that realized one day, but we are not yet there.

This moronic scumbag Samuel J. Wurzelbacher "Joe the Plumber" had his AZ driver license suspended

    http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/128323

Wurzelbacher, who lived in Mesa in 2000 and had an Arizona driver's license, had his driver's license suspended by the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division on May 4, 2000, following a nonpayment of a court-imposed fine for civil traffic violations, according to court records.

...owes nearly $1,200 in back taxes, according to public records, still owes more than $700 to the Mesa court system.

Records show he was cited for failure to stop at a red light and for failure to provide proof of insurance on Feb. 9, 2000, in a black Dodge truck at the intersection of Dobson and Baseline roads in Mesa.

After failing to pay his original fine of $627.50 issued in March 2000, his license was suspended and the fine was handed over to a collection agency along with a 16 percent surcharge. The now-resident of Holland, Ohio, still owes $727.90 to the Mesa Municipal Court, according to court records.

Hopefully the collection agency will break both of his legs so he'll never be able to walk nor work ever again. This typical Republican scumbag deserves it.
