My father was given this same death sentence in '96 and lived until 02. I completely agree with Mr. Goldsmith about the lack of medical progress for this nasty disease!!!! I would love to get in touch with him and discuss ways to change that! Can anybody help me locate him? Thanks- P.S. Finally we have a person fit for the job to rule America.

I am the youngest of ten children, my father passed away in 1971 from ALS, I was 4 years old. My family and a group of very passionate people started a non-profit in my state, to help the people living with ALS and there care-givers. We need to do something about the Disease! Being a huge baseball fan, I think getting Major League baseball involved all over the country, is a great idea. If anyone knows how we can get involved please let me know. God bless you Mr. Goldsmith and go Birds!

I Have ALS and I was so happy that this story has come about. We need a cure for this debilitating disease. I do not expect to find one in my lifetime...but certainly we can call a halt to a disease that allows the person who has it to have a clear functional mind as his body deteriorates in front of him.
We need to find a cure.

As a friend of a tennis pro recently also diagnosed with ALS, your words are so timely. The symptoms initially seemed so benign; it seemed that it was just a matter of finding the medical issue and having the right medicine prescribed or procedure/surgery. What a blow to find that this is a disease with little knowledge about why some one has it, and at least in the US, with no known cure. Does stem cell research and implementation in other countries where stem cells have not been politicized have any potential? We assume that there are solutions and cures for so many diseases, until a wall of what appears to be a "class" of neurological diseases has the potential to rob life so prematurely and unexpectedly. It is timely and unbelievable that in 70 years there has been no major breakthrough on this and other neurological diseases.

This is one of many reasons to look up to Michael Goldsmith.
Thank you for all you've given to us.

    Mr. Goldsmith,
Your article was positive and uplifting. Your attitude reminds me of a friend our family lost to ALS. Know you are not alone. Here's wishing you strength and days filled with goodness, however that may come for you. Your charming spirit resounds in the story you shared. Thank you!
