This is NO WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOTICE the adam's apple....and the size 13 shoes??? This amazon is not capable of representing the likes of Laura Bush, Nancy Reagan, or Jackie Kennedy....I can just imagine her attempting to make associations with leaders of the world and their wives....like Cindy McCain....she towers over her and invokes FEAR....Kinda like King Kong and the little barbie doll.....I don't think she would represent the AMERICAN WOMAN at all..... McCain/Palin '08

I suppose the women in your tumbleweed have no future, based on your argument.

Until you have walked a mile in my BLACKNESS you can not begin to understand what Mrs. Obama has to the table. She is a true depiction of what a STRONG WOMAN is; never mind her color. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY AUDLT LIFE I AM PROUD OF MY COUNTRY. My 90 year old Grandmother (who passed away this Jan) was the daughter of a slave and it prides me to see that WE (Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians, Muslims, Christians, and Jews) can look beyond the color of and man's skin and judge him by the content of his character!! This is what I took from her statement.

Have you ever looked to see your grandmother???s tears at the anniversary of cutting her oldest son down from a tree where he was hung less than 4 miles from her home? Or have you ever had to drink from separate water fountains because of skin color. Have you ever felt water tearing off your skin from fire hoses because you were standing up for RACIAL EQUALITY? These are some of the things Blacks have gone through and for a Barack & Michelle Obama to rise from the ashes; is REMARKABLE!!!

The numbers would disagree w/ you. Since Obama officially won the Dem. nomination, he has never ceased to be the front-runner against McCain. Looks like the majority of America has consistently been saying that they would rather have the Obama's as their role models, instead of the McCain's. That would include your little Barbie doll.

      LOL!!!!!

To Pia and others who have the will and strength to stand-up to those here who would preach lies and hatred. THANK YOU!

Sometimes the comments placed here seem so surreal, how can anyone think such things. It can be frustrating and sometimes difficult for us to keep things civil (Yes even I have felt the need to give a tongue lashing), however I am happy to see others like myself who strive to make intelligent, civil and well thought out comments. Pia, I hope to see more of your thoughts in the future.

Michelle Obama is a great American, and role model for African-American people and other minorities in this country. She is representative of strength, humility, pride, respect, and leadership as her husband is. You know what they say....behind every great man....(smile)

  • Posted By: queenrosered @ 11/03/2008 1:58:18 PM

As a middle-aged white woman, I was totally behind Hillary. She narrowly lost to Obama and since then, I've read and listened to everything said by him, about him and about Michelle. I've fact-checked (good Lord there are a load of erroneous emails being circulated out there!) and have definitely come to the conclusion that not only can America not survive another YEAR of failed Republican poliecies, much less another 4, but also that a McCain/Palin ticket would be not only wrong, but disasterous! So, not because Hillary (and Bill) told me to, lol...but because my own good common sense and patriotism(and sense of self-preservation!) tells me to! Obama has had everything but the kitchen sink thrown at him (thanks in large part to Hillary, who helped shape him up and make him a tough opponent against McCain) and he always comes off as gracious, thoughtful, intelligent and a man that builds cohesive consensus and is not so arrogant (i.e. George W!) as to think he can make unilateral decisions without first getting the best minds available to help shape his policies. That makes for not only a safe, but an effective President. One we can trust. One who can definitely answer the phone at 3am.
Having said all that, let me address the issue of blacks voting in mass for Obama.Get over it, white America!I can assure you that if most black Americans were invited to 2 dinner parties in the same night, one at the Obama's and one at the Clintons, most(before Obama was so close to becoming President) would elect to go to the Clinton's party. Yes. Most African-Americans have more in common with the Clintons than with the Obamas. In reality, Obama is an intellectual...but isn't that what we really need at a dangerous time like this? Since when is it wrong to be so intelligent? That is not to say that the Clinton's are slouches in the IQ department, by any means, just that they appeal more to the blue-collar crowd, nothing wrong with that either.
In conclusion, I don't believe that ALL blacks are voting for Obama just because of his skin color, though admittedly, some are. They are voting their own interest, mostly economic interest. So am I. Obama/Biden in '08! Ba-ROCK the Vote folks!

    • Posted By: JSGIUNTA @ 11/03/2008 4:39:27 PM

Ok, let me see if I got this straight. Most blacks aren't intellectuals (I might agree, if they end up voting for Obama) the Clintons aren't the brightest bulbs in the pack either (well, I think we all realize that) and Obama is an intellectual, who can't make a decision without checking with someone else first. Did I get all that correct?

      • Posted By: queenrosered @ 11/03/2008 5:43:02 PM

Nice try at rearranging my words, but I stand by them as they are. The Clintons are both extremely intelligent as are the Obamas. But let's face it, Bill would probably be a lot more fun at a BBQ than Obama at a champagne event. And while there are plenty of black "intellectuals", they would no more represent their race than white intellectuals(of which, I can see, you are no part of) Obama's intellect and poise go beyond the ordinary. Charismatic is a word I used (rightly so) for Bill Clinton and I use it just as correctly with Barack Obama, period.Get over your racist self, ok?

  • Posted By: jremy74@msn.com @ 11/03/2008 4:19:52 PM

89 percent of registered black voters vote for obama. purist form of racism. It makes me sick. the african american community should be ashamed of themselves for whining all these years only to then go and vote based on color...

    • Posted By: jeanbyars @ 11/03/2008 4:51:27 PM

Blacks have historically voted DEMOCRAT whether the candidate is black, white or any other color of the rainbow. If Barack were 100% white they would still vote for him, just as they did for Kerry and Bill Clinton. If you look at the percentage of blacks who have voted DEMOCRAT in the past, you will see that the percentage supporting Barack is very close to their historic voting record for members of the Democratic Party.

      • Posted By: drollins @ 11/03/2008 5:28:37 PM

600,000 registered black voters didn't even vote in 2004 check your facts, they are voting this time for the brother and his ugly wife. If they voted four years ago then we won't have had to listen to them crying for the last four years. But when their hero drops the bomb on them and they realize they been had we will have to listen to them cry for four more years. God will this ever stop.

        • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 5:40:40 PM

Perhaps they thought no one really represented their interests.

<snark> I don't know how though, since both major party candidates were members of the elite "Skull and Bones" society. Aren't there 600,000 registered black voters in that group? </snark>

Ah but they did vote for Clinton, a rural southerner who didn't see a silver spoon (except in a museum).

    • Posted By: jeanbyars @ 11/03/2008 4:46:56 PM

Blacks have voted overwhelmingly for DEMOCRAT candidates, whether they were black, white, Asian, Jewish or any color or any ethnicity. If Barack were 100% white they would still be voting for him, just as they did for Kerry and Bill Clinton.

In 1998, James Byrd was drug behind a pickup truck down a gravel road until his body was mangled and his life was gone. That's the purist form of racism, moron.

Sadly enough, it wasn't the last time violence like this occurred.

      http://news.aol.ca/article/us-dragging-death-1st-writethru/393528/

      Did I mention "moron"?

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 4:24:04 PM

Everyone votes for the person with whom they most identify.

You need to look that word up. Racism is the assumption that someone is incapable or undeserving based on a supposed generalization.

Voting for the person you think best represents you is democracy.

  • Posted By: LVUONG @ 11/03/2008 4:29:26 PM

Is she a role model for all of us, American people? We do not even know her husband well. Who is the real Obama, with all the influence from radical people such as Louis Farrakhan, Bill Ayers and Rashid Khalidi and Rev. Jeremial Wirght?

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 4:41:20 PM

Does anyone else laugh when people attempt to blame their electoral ignorance on others?

Literally tens of thousands of pages of information exist on Obama, and all of these innuendos have been debunked dozens of times by the every (credible) source that exists.

But this guy still doesn't know the "real" Obama! It's like a Star Trek time-warp episode.

      • Posted By: JSGIUNTA @ 11/03/2008 5:24:17 PM

Maybe he doesn't believe any of it because our "Messiah" refuses to release his school, work, medical and bith records, to disprove any of it. Why should I believe other sources, when the "horse's mouth" remains closed?

        • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 5:33:57 PM

Well I've seen the birth record (because he did release it, and others have gone to photograph it too), and I saw him hit a three from way out (so he is probably healthier than I am). I suppose he could have lied about his schoolin', but there is that whole "Harvard Law Review" thing, plus the fact that he taught *constitutional law" at one of the most prestigious universities in the world. That seems to take care of birth, health, and education. As for the other thing, the only Messiah I've seen this year is Handel's.

to jremy74, get over yourself. blacks are not so shallow that we are voting for obama becasue of the color of his skin. We are voting for him because we believe he will make better decision that mccain. we believe that he is here for all americans, rich or poor, young or old, black or white. mccain isn't making me or my friends, who are black and white, feel like we are a part of the amerrica fabric. obama makes us feel that. and if you want to challenge us for voting based on the color of his skin, make sure you call out the skin heads, red necks and over all racist who are voting for mcain just becasue he is white. and by the way, as long as i work, pay my taxes and raise my children to be responsible american citizens, i can whine as long and as loud as i want!!!

I have never responded on a blog in this campaign because so many have been over the top. However, to the comments by condemning Cindy McCain, I can only suggest that one look closely at the work she has and is involved in on a domestic and global basis to attack poverty and support children. Even those in the press who oppose her husband have a great deal of praise and support for her activities. I also find it hard to believe that anyone would criticize a woman who is performing excellently as a senior executive in a family business that has achieved success after the business was started by her family with borrowed money. I have always thought that this was the American dream. She is running the business after her parents built it. Isn't that what many of us would like to do as well. She still finds time for charity work as well. I don't know of a similar experience by Michelle Obama regardless of role model capabilities. Get your facts straight before making ignorant comments that show emotion rather than fact. elegy

It is so funny how folks have made this article a political issue. Another funny attribute to these negative comments is that this article was written with the focus of African American women. Some of you call her arrogant, some call her selfish, some even call her a whiner, but the fact of the matter is, as African Americans in a country where our women are discriminated against everyday, this is a breathe of fresh air. Many women consider themselves as role models, but none of them are really considered African American Role Models. I have 2 daughters, and damn sure don???t want them to grow up to be like Paris Hilton, Brittney Spears, and the list can go on of all the other role models that you and your society look up too. We live in a country where positive African American women, are scarce, and for you few to come out and be negative about it is just plan unappreciated. I am tired of you few that think we (blacks) are racist, when we compete to exist in your society. Hell, you are just afraid that we are finally coming to do things better than you are. And for political sake, You guys are running scared, because a African American will be your next President, and after that, we will be grooming more intelligent African American men to take his place for years to come. BE SCARED, BE VERY SCARED

    • Posted By: queenrosered @ 11/03/2008 5:29:21 PM

Sweetie, I am white, female, successful and voting Obama because he is the best choice for my country, NOT because he is black.I find your comments about us(whites) having to be "afraid" of future blacks to be not only racist and witout merit, but even more of a Republican comment, lol! Stop acting like an uneducated woman (of ANY color) stop being a "hater" and just be an American, ok? 'Nuff said.

    • Posted By: JenniferDavis125 @ 11/03/2008 5:27:45 PM

The depressing part is that it DOES scare some of them. Fortunately, I think that as each generation dies out, racism will continue to become less and less prevalent. The further we get from it, the better. Of course, this also means seeing the loss of the enlightened ones who grew up in some of the most racist of times, the ones who were able to buck societal norms and stand for what is right. But I believe those people have raised children who will raise children who will be smarter and better than the ignorant few.

  • Posted By: bduboftexas @ 11/03/2008 4:57:49 PM

I think she can be a wonderful role model for women of all colors. Why just the black women?

    • Posted By: kshortSD @ 11/03/2008 5:29:00 PM

True. I guess the point is that African American women have been lacking strong role models, that's all.

  • Posted By: hoakley92 @ 11/03/2008 4:38:53 PM

I can appreciate your point of view, and obviously you are Democrat. Which is fine. But when you speak about classy, prominent role models (excluding celebrities), who don't fit the mainstream media profile of a strong black woman, what about Condoleeza Rice? She is incredibly intelligent, well spoken, well educated and a very prominent, successful political figure. It sort of dismays me that she's been over-looked here.

    • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 11/03/2008 5:28:18 PM

As a Black woman I am extremely proud of Condi's accomplishments.

As a Black woman I am extremely disappointed in her decision to mimic Bush!

    • Posted By: Kboogie @ 11/03/2008 4:54:09 PM

      Rice hasn't been over-looked.

When publicized, her characteristics are applauded by all....black and white. The problem is, she holds a role in government that doesn't get the amount of fame or notoriety that a possible first-lady recieves. Without access to her history or accomplishments, the mainstream is deprived of her influence. That damn MSM!!! LOL!!!!!

There were a few (and far between) articles and documentaries about her, early on in her career. I remember CNN did a piece on her that was outstanding. Even Oprah gave her some "honorable mentions".

I love her story, but hate her politics.

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 4:45:33 PM

I don't think she has. But she doesn't have a family (does she?), and First-Lady is (possibly) in some ways more prestigous than the roles she has played, at least for more traditional women.

My only problem with Condi is all that bull she sold about mushroom clouds ... and I will never respect her for it, really. Lies tarnish.

  • Posted By: abbychloe @ 11/03/2008 5:08:57 PM

Michelle Obama is no more of a role leader than Bill Ayers. She is just now proud to be an American (those were her own words). She, along with Barack, associated with Rev. Wright for over 20 years. Wright is Anti-American. Yes, she is very articulate and obviously intelligent, but a role leader she will never be.

    • Posted By: LaSirene @ 11/03/2008 5:27:12 PM

  • Posted By: towtrip @ 11/03/2008 5:03:56 PM

I agree that Michelle Obama can be a wonderful role model for all women, regardless of color, ethnicity or race. She demonstrates femininity without weakness and strength without masculinity. I have no doubt that she can be an intelligent, articulate first lady without having her own agenda.

Cindy McCain, on the other hand is about the worst example of white women available. Ms. Samuels wrote of the image of black women being drug addicts, but Cindy McCain IS a drug addict ... and stole from a charitable organization to support her addiction. She is also the epitome of the high-society trophy wife, well-kept in an extravagant lifestyle funded by inheritance.

    • Posted By: kshortSD @ 11/03/2008 5:26:09 PM

I agree. Michelle Obama is a great role model, and Cindy McCain is nothing more than an older version of Paris Hilton.

denmill?? I don't believe that you are even a black person. I think you are a "plant" in this forum, so that you can appear to be a "black women" who is "voting her conscience" in order to try to fool people. If this forum made everyone post a true pic of themselves, I doubt you'd even be spouting your crap here.
And to elizabeth, who spoke of how black women have a "natural beauty" that needs no make-up, and white women don't? You are another idiot!I am a naturally beautiful WHITE woman who is voting for Obama because he is gracious, well-educated and poised as well as thoughtful and consise. His color has not a thing to do with my vote, nor does his wife. I think Michelle will be a very involved first lady and an effective one but that isn't why I will vote for Obama. With the world in general and America in particular in such a dangerous state, we cannot afford to take a gamble with our future and if Barack and Michelle were green as Kermit, I'd still vote Obama! So let's stop insulting everyone's choices and itelligence with all this nonsense about race or gender, ok? I am a Hillary Dem, so get with it guys and vote as if your lives depend on it...because they do! Obama/Biden '08!
