Appreciate your comments as a black woman but here am I, a white 74 year old man, who holds Michelle as a role model. What a great mother, what a suipportive but yet an individual wife, what a lovely representative of American womanhood and citizen. First ladies are a pretty good lot -- Hilliary, Laura, Barbara, et al were/all quite a credit to their husbands. Michelle will, I pray she has the chance, will rise to that level and beyond as well. With Michelle I don't see black or white just one super lady!

eagle57? I think I love you! LOL! Thanks for your sensitive and thoughtful comments about Michelle and ALL past First Ladies, Republican and Democrat. What a sweet man you are, and no "vagina envy" either, lol!I am a middle-aged white American woman who couldn't agree with you more and I am casting my vote for America...therefore I am voting Obama/Biden! Hugs to you eagle57! :)

if that is the definition of racism then all you obama supporters need to stop throwing out the word so much towards mccain supporters... For the first time in my adult life today I was called a racist for wearing a mccain palin t shirt. I am sickened by the spirit of hate that has taken over your party....

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 5:15:13 PM

From your posts, I can easily imagine that it was something besides your T-shirt that pissed them off enough to call you a racist. It's a really easy picture to imagine.

Are you a racist? No? Then WTF do you care what somebody called you? SPINE UP MAN.

    • Posted By: tmitch10 @ 11/03/2008 4:54:12 PM

Really sorry to hear about that. LEt me apologize for ALL supporters who have worngfully accused you of something.

But wait, McCain, and especially Palin have spent most of the last few weeks talking about who is a "Real American" and who is not. Where the "Real America" is and where it isn't. So while I truly feel bad about you being called outta your name. The rest of your post is drivell, without your candidates backing up your flawed rhetoric.

Great article! I too am interested in how Michelle will step into her role as First Lady. I imagine if she worked with me we would be friends. We would share concerns about working too much, not working enough, staying home too much, and not being home enough for our children. We might talk about music, opera, and theatre. She is a force, and
Thank God her own, to be dealt with but come on Michelle! We all love ya!
And by the by I am a wee bit older than Michelle white chick who finds her totally compelling.

44% voted for kerry so your a liar....

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 5:09:12 PM

Nearly 99% of whites voted for Bush and Kerry in the last cycle (and no one thinks that was racist), making the statement essentially true, and this yet-another post-of-trash.

Michelle Obama exudes class and dignity from every pore. This midwestern white girl is thrilled to offer Mrs. Obama as a role model for her young daughter. When I hear her speak, or see the dynamic between her and her husband, I am not only proud to be an American, but proud to be a woman. She's a class act, through and through.

    • Posted By: towtrip @ 11/03/2008 5:08:32 PM

      I wholeheartedly agree.

Michelle Obama is a fabulous role model. She can be intelligent and articulate, without envying her husband's spotlight. She is feminine without being weak and strong without being masculine.

Cindy McCain, on the other hand, IS a drug addict. She stole from her charity to support her drug habit. She is also the epitome of the socialite trophy wife, living an extravagant lifestyle funded by inheritance.

  • Posted By: NothingChanges @ 11/03/2008 5:08:24 PM

Funny how even in today's so called post racial world, it amazes me that the only black people white people feel are good role models are the ones that only agree with them. As if to say, they are always right. Sad is what it really is

    BREAKING NEWS ALERT....

Obama taped conversation with San Francisco Chronicle states his policies ???will bankrupt coal mining operations that produce gas emissions in states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina
which it will cause energy prices to skyrocket....." .....more info nobody knew until now about what Obama wants to do!!

    • Posted By: Canuckian @ 11/03/2008 5:08:15 PM

Why don't you read before you write? Sen. Obama actually stated that he wanted to develop clean coal, which would be far more beneficial to the environment. I don't see anything to indicate that it would destroy the coal industry. As a matter of fact, it would do more to encourage the consumption of coal as a clean energy resource. Perhaps you are having trouble reading past the Republican propaganda?

  • Posted By: nicole13 @ 11/03/2008 5:07:12 PM

Michelle Obama is the kind of role model we can ALL be proud of and aspire to be She is raising two smart , loving daughters, and has worked hard to be a good mother, working mom, and a fine citizen.

  • Posted By: jremy74@msn.com @ 11/03/2008 4:51:59 PM

democrats have been in control of the house for the past two years... they are who drove the economy into the ground. please dont be blinded by cnn

    • Posted By: bduboftexas @ 11/03/2008 4:59:57 PM

So you don't think 10 billion dollars a month wasted on a war hurt the economy? That's 10 billion a month for over 5 years - and that's not counting Afghanistan. And you want to blame the democrats who had 2 years in congress. Boy - this site is full of delusional comments

  • Posted By: KKSul @ 11/03/2008 4:01:13 PM

How can Michelle Obama be a role model if she has the ibeliefs as well as the Democrats? Obama wants to close all factories/companies that use coal...there goes the unemployment. I know he said that it was taken out of content...he's a liar. How about the facts that people get all upset for to the point people lose their lifestyle, go to jail, etc over cruelty to animals yet Michell Obama's husband when confronted about cruelty to a baby in a hospital because the mother didn't want the child and starves to death hours after being born her husband clearly did not care when responding to complaints. I am not sure his exact words but basicly said that it was the mothers decision and the hospitals had to follow w/ the mothers decision.
Is this the type of person we wsant as a President and First Lady? I hope not!!!

    • Posted By: oldwoman08 @ 11/03/2008 4:59:40 PM

I typically skim without posting, but I just couldn't let this pass. Illinois already had a law which provided for children born live during an attempted abortion. This law duplicated that provision AND tacked on other provisions which restricted the rights of the mother. Perhaps you're pro-life and that's acceptable to you. But, do not confuse the issue the way so many confuse the fact that both parties refused to fund the troops--not because of lack of patriotism but because of a difference in opinion as to how to achieve the ultimate means (appropriateness of timetables).

Finally, what is wrong with Black (women, men, children, or any other minority for that matter) expressing anger? It is a human emotion. Minorities are human. The escalated and inaccurate depictions of anger are much more problematic than the typical expressions of anger. If you've ever told a child it's okay to be sad or cry, you should also know that it's okay to be angry.

To all of the conservatives out there who think that Obama is a flaming liberal, I would like to remind you of what he did when he was elected President of the Harvard Law Review. The Law Review President gets to name ten individuals to write articles for the Review, and these ten people get to control the content of the publication. All of the minorities and the liberals thought they finally had it made, that Obama would appoint ten left wing editors. Instead, Obama appointed three conservatives, three liberals and four moderates. That year the Law Review was critically acclaimed as the best run and best written Harvard publication in decades.

So when he wins in November, conservatives don't have to freak out. Obama is a centrist and will appoint a balanced cabinet full of active people who will really get things done. Kind of like the way our multi-cultural society is supposed to be. And exactly what we need in this time of economic crisis.

Puulllleeease! This guy is a dyed-in-the-wool Socialist, with communist leanings. He has ALWAYS sought out Socialist sand radicals as his friends and mentors. He even admits this in his writings. The only thing his friends from college agree with about him is that when he spoke to a group of people, both sides walked away thinking he was on their side; a true con-man. This guy will only be a centrist till he gains office; then the gloves come off and you'll find out his true colors. We're in for a helluvaride, and it's all downhill.

  • Posted By: jremy74@msn.com @ 11/03/2008 4:44:25 PM

If anyone can answer this question I will be highly surprised..... What significant change has Obama made in the us senate??? really if you cant answer the question you seriously consider who your voting for.... you dont want to be that person....

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 4:50:14 PM

I can. And you could too if you had actually researched his life instead of taken the radio-man's word.

The first (and for me, only necessary) point is that he rejected the "our team" approach to politics, but I'm sure others can give you their favorite points. Unless of course your "empty posts" have pissed them off. Obama rejects fear and the "50%+1" strategy that most professional pols have been caught in lately.

Like I said, that's just one. Lucky for you the first one's free.

  • Posted By: jremy74@msn.com @ 11/03/2008 4:38:27 PM

to lilcimp You are the exact person I am talking about .. stop whining I does no good for CHANGE lol. 89% even someone that uses racist terms like redneck would agree that number proves beyond a doubt that the high numbers for obama within the black community prove there is racism in the black community that far exceeds others.....

    • Posted By: tmitch10 @ 11/03/2008 4:48:56 PM

      This is laughable.

So by your terms that makes 100% of white people, who have voted in elections before 2008 racist. It's just crazy. 100% of white people voted 100% for white people before this year!

Finally there is some deviation from the norm, and you expect, what! That the AA community wouldn't, having finally gotten a GREAT candidate, go out and pull the lever for him. Crazy. Just like your "Racist" theory. Just plain crazy!

  • Posted By: HAPPYTEACH @ 11/03/2008 1:58:26 PM

I PRAY THAT SHE DOESN'T GET THE CHANCE TO TRY TO TEACH. SHE DOESN'T HAVE THE TEMPERAMENT TO TEACH ANYONE ANYTHING. SHE IS ONE ANGRY WOMAN!!!

    • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 11/03/2008 4:43:36 PM

Michelle Obama is a thinker who has a right to be 'angry' about the ugly 'crimes against humanity' endured by blacks in America but she is not an 'angry' person. Michelle Obama had some ambition and got a good education and a good career. That seems to bother a lot of lazy white bigots.

Also, Michelle Obama chose a quality man to be her husband and the father of her children. She's done everything right.

What have you or your daughters achieved? Nothing compared to Michelle Obama.

Michelle Obama is going to be a terrific First Lady. And you and your ilk can't stop her.

    • Posted By: quacksgirl @ 11/03/2008 3:01:26 PM

I guess you much rather have a woman like Cindy McCain who stole another woman's husband and then steals drugs from her foundation to support her addiction. That's the role model we need in the White House for sure. Give me a break.

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 11/03/2008 2:52:51 PM

Look at yourself.. your comment in upper case..you look quite angry to me.

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 2:02:30 PM

AND I WILL PROVE HOW ANGRY SHE IS BY YELLING! SEE HOW SHE DOES! IM NOT ANGRY! ITS HER! </snark>

  • Posted By: mathycakes @ 11/03/2008 4:33:32 PM

I find her to be arrogant and self-righteous. She acts like the world would stop revolving if it weren't for her husband. How about some grace sometimes?

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 4:42:53 PM

I really treasure how my wife believes the world will stop rotating when I'm gone. It makes a lot of sense to me that Michelle would feel the same way about her husband (and father of her children).

  • Posted By: Nelsong @ 11/03/2008 1:23:10 PM

I find it difficult to swallow that any woman would make the comment, "it is the first time in my life that I am proud to be an American!" Where have you been living Michelle? Is this the type of person as First Lady that America really needs?

    • Posted By: 4carol @ 11/03/2008 4:38:24 PM

Yes, it is the type of woman we need in the white house along with Barack. A president who will speak openly and honestly to the American people (ALL AMERICAN PEOPLE). As I said b/4 if you've always, always and ever, been proud of your country, then you're either naive or stupid.......sorry!!!!

    • Posted By: Kboogie @ 11/03/2008 1:58:59 PM

I'm curious....were you and your family proud of America during the time of segregation, before the Civil Rights movement, when women were not allowed to vote, when folks who stood up for equality were beaten, killed, or jailed? OR, when the US govt instigated a false plot to lead our troops into Vietnam, or when our troops and dollars were lead into Iraq on doctored CIA reports?

Just curious...........were you proud of all of that? Or, were you one of the ones who stood up and said, "this is wrong, I disagree w/ what my government is doing." ?

  • Posted By: Dems-4-Fairness @ 11/03/2008 4:12:17 PM

Interestingly enough this journalist says one thing and does another.

I know Town and Country Magazine does not speak for a large part of our truths in this country anyways. This T and C writer maybe drawing lines on race, but we should call them out and not continue to make race an issue. Stop seeing Obama as black.

How will having black people in power be any better then white people or Asians? They are all equally good and bad in their own unique way. To site that Obama is better for us because she is black is no different than saying all whites are evil god hating criminals. If you want race to be an issue then continue this type of one-sided rhetoric.
Furthermore, why did Obama pick Biden, a white man? Why not anyone else? A woman or a fellow black man or another minority? Maybe because it is true what is being said: ???Talk is cheap!??? When will the record match the rhetoric? I am saying this as a fellow brother that is tired of the black???s race being used as a stepping stone for politicians.

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 4:28:22 PM

      What a wonderfully ironic post!

You say that the author (and others) "continue to make race an issue."

Then you ask, "how will having black people in power be any better then white people or Asians?"

Who said it would? We said Obama would be better.

  • Posted By: Chuck Goodman @ 11/03/2008 1:35:42 PM

Barack Obama and his spouse have opened the wounds of racism. Calling thing that are not racist racist is creating a mood in the country that black folks everywhere are out for the big take over at any cost including the old doesn???t work ploy of threatening rioting. Obama is the worst set back for equality since this country begin.
We become what we are around. Our values, attitude and beliefs are formed by the people we associate with. We take on the drives and goals of those who teach us and those who aspire to specific aims that we are allied with.
Ayres is a documented terrorist. Wright wants God to Damn America. Rezko cheated the American Public. Fleger has abhorrence for America. Franklin Rains cheated America.
Acorn tries to bribe you and intimidate you to vote with and for all the above. And, the list of shady characters goes on and on and on.
While McCain may not be your number one choice for President he will and has defended America. He is offering his life for America and has proven he would/will die for America. None of Osama???s associates would do that and they trained Obama.
Don???t be duped by the pretty and empty talk. Obama allows his brother to live in a slum and his Dear Auntie to live in a slum. What makes you think he has any compassion for you when he ignores his own family???s basic needs?
Think about that! Than vote from you heart as well as your mind

    • Posted By: 4carol @ 11/03/2008 4:19:45 PM

iT'S ABOUT TIME YOU GET OVER YOUR RACISM ISSUE; don't know how old you are but by 2030 there will be more non-whites than whites in America!! GROW UP!!!!

    • Posted By: HAPPYTEACH @ 11/03/2008 1:57:04 PM

I agree with your thinking . Thank goodness some people are still thinking straight.

I don't need M. Osama to teach me anything, I certainly wouldn't want to develop her attitude problem. I hope we don't have to see her parading around trying to teach anyone anyhting.

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 1:45:11 PM

To all of the tired lies and innuendo you add another.

Obama is not race-baiting. It's patently false.

Thank goodness the old John McCain finally stood up and asked his supporters not to. Maybe you didn't get the memo.
