Wow! The Gallup is showing a 10% point lead by Obama w/ just 3 days to go.
Looks like the MAJORITY of America would love to have Michelle as a role model.

Get you head out of the bucket of crap Osama has been selling all you guys....MAYBE you'll be able to see more clearly and have the ability to REASON....Osama's crap is just that and IF you choose to keep your head up his butt...well, that's just dumb and there is NO HOPE for you.... McCain/Palin '08
Huh? Those are the polling numbers I'm quoting you, not figures from the Obama campaign.
Are you even reading the post before you respond, kiddo?
I thought this election was not about race!!!!!! Seems like this writer is making it so. Role model, hero???? Try Jesus. Without Him, you are all lost.
See what I mean? :}
I am in my 50's and I have ALWAYS been proud of America and of being an American. That does not mean that I have always been proud of the way things are handled by the government, but who is? I have to agree with an earlier post by summer4077 when she said that race should not be a diaquallifying factor for presidential candidacy. Racism, on the other hand, should be. The Obamas belonged to an extremely racist, anti-American congregation for over 20 years, separating themselves from it only when their association threatened to have a negative effect on the campaign. That is not "role model" material. If you want a role model for American women, look at Condoleezza Rice.
As far as the Obamas are concerned, I am glad that they can finally be proud to be Americans and their "faith in America" has been "vindicated". It's just sad that it is taking a potential trip to the White House to bring this about.
I truly believe that you (like at least 47% of America) have confused "racism" with "being proud of my race".
Considering that "we" (our white ancestors) expected blacks to scrape and fetch for some long (100 years after we were all supposedly "equal" under the law), considering that they *did* (as necessary to survive), are you really unable to accept that some want to make a point of saying "be proud of who you are".
How many seconds of sermon have you viewed from this church? Do you really have the right to make this claim? More than likely (as is the case with most Americans), you are passing along gossip as truth. Now, that's not racism, but it's just as lame.
There is nothing wrong with being proud of your race. Everyone should be proud of their heritage. I have never attended one of Rev. Wright's services, but I have listened to some of his recorded sermons. I did not hear pride of race and heritage in his words. I heard hatred and bias. Granted, what is posted on the internet may be extreme examples, but if I ever attended my church and my pastor preached that message I would find a new church immediately. It would not take me 20 years.
I did hear pride and heritage. I also heard a fiery brand of Christianity. In fact, that particular point of view is more offensive to me than the racial part of it by far. But we don't claim Pat Robertson is racist, do we?
What makes your point less credible is that this sermon was not from 20 years ago. That tired meme is based on the suggestion (and meant to imply) that this was formative for both Obama and that church, when neither is true.
In any case, it's no different that Pat Robertson and friends, *except* for the color of their skin.
finally, an article from the average black woman's perspective! why is it so difficult for people to believe that all black women aren't oversexed, undereducated, shrill and vulgar? yes, some of us are that but the majority of us go to work, go to school, attend church, care for our families and are responsible, productive citizens of our communities. i'm grateful that michelle obama is such a stellar example of what real black womanhood is all about, and that america and the world will finally acknowledge what we bring to the table. bree b from nc
Thank you! I completely agree. I hope that she gets the opportunity to change America's perspective. She's strong, smart, charming and sexy! I love her!!!
In 2000, 2004 and over the last eight years we have been lied to consistently as the Bush-Cheney admin has boldly pursued their private agenda to benefit Special Interests and a select few and have given the majority of us only apathy, the costs and an abundance of subterfuge. They have done this aggressively with arrogance and without any conscience and today we see the results in the significant and drastic problems we now have. Those few benefiting from this irresponsibility return both overt and covert support, campaign contributions and promised delayed compensation; George W Bush has even bragged he will quickly pass his father and Bill Clinton in wealth after he leaves office. We are now seeing a rerun of the same dirty politics from the McCain-Palin camp as they aggressively pursue another smear and scare campaign, without ever really addressing the issues, just depending on lies, exaggerations, far stretched accusations and guilt by association, which they offer by word-of-mouth, on websites and in their speeches. They ask us to believe their obviously twisted evaluations faulting and attacking Obama-Bidden and the Obama-Bidden solutions and then we are suppose to just trust them, that they McCain and Palin know best what to do, as if everything is all about them. Common sense should convince us that tactic is simply a con and just more of the same style deception we have been misled by in the past. McCain???s history really has not been one with a lot of impressive results and rather instead demonstrates someone who impulsively jumps to whatever position he feels favors him for political advantage. Palin, besides being grossly unqualified, shows us an aggressive, totally self-focused, dishonest and ???cocky??? personality that lacks the diplomacy and others awareness to perform at the level required. In the mean time, Obama and Bidden have consistently, comparatively speaking, maintained a higher class presidential campaign with a concentration on the issues and in offering specifics of real solutions. Their solutions, and not McCain???s and Palin???s rationalized and critical interpretation of them, offer the needed real change to resolve the problems with the focus being on the neglected middle-class, which means the economy and everyone benefits. If we don???t reject the total bull that McCain and Palin are offering and then are once again deceived, because she is cute or he is a war hero or we lean Republican or because we have conservative concerns or whatever, then we can literally blame ourselves as being co-responsible when we end up with just ???more of the same???. In the end, it is up to us and we really can???t withstand ???more of the same???!
finally, an article from the average black woman's perspective. why is it so difficult for people to grasp that the majority of black women are not oversexed, undereducated, shrill and vulgar? that most of us work, attend school, attend church, take care of our families and are productive, responsible citizens of our communities?
i'm thrilled that michelle obama is such a stellar example of what real black womanhood is about, and america and the world will finally realize and concede what we bring to the table. thank you newsweek!
You don't have to be white to be a racist....as far as black women, we white people don't look down on you for working and raising your kids. That is what is expected. The "people" (not only black) we look down on are the ones who do not work for what they have nor raise their children for a better life. The American Dream is not to sit and stew about the past, but to move forward into prosperity. EVERYONE has the same opportunity.
you would think so Holly but, the big difference between the races is that most don't peddle hatred to thier children to hand down to their children. I teach my children that the past is that, the past. and build your life to be the best you can be. "you are the maker of your own destiny" too many people blame others for thier own miss fortunes.
Non-sense. This woman held a fund raisor for partial birth abortion. The deliberate killing of a full formed baby. She like he husband that voted to kill babies born alive four times certainly are not role models. These acts are barbaric. 50 million children killed by abortion. More than any other killer in this country or the world. I also find it interesting that he was so embarrased by his votes that he misstated the truth about the law that was in place and the law proposed. I find it repulsive.
It's almost as if you are saying - gasp - that you are *not proud of America*!
Your baby-defender-in-chief killed hundreds of thousands of non-whites during his rule based on hidden economic policies and justified them with a stack of falsehoods so high that Americans turned on each other.
Shoe, meet the other foot.
what are you blathering about roger?
Barack Obama and his spouse has opened the wounds of racism. Calling thing that are not racist racist is creating a mood in the country that black folks everywhere are out for the big take over at any cost including the old doesn???t work ploy of threatening rioting. Obama is the worst set back for equality since this country begin.
We become what we are around. Our values, attitude and beliefs are formed by the people we associate with. We take on the drives and goals of those who teach us and those who aspire to specific aims that we are allied with.
Ayres is a documented terrorist. Wright wants God to Damn America. Rezko cheated the American Public. Fleger has abhorrence for America. Franklin Rains cheated America.
Acorn tries to bribe you and intimidate you to vote with and for all the above. And, the list of shady characters goes on and on and on.
While McCain may not be your number one choice for President he will and has defended America. He is offering his life for America and has proven he would/will die for America. None of Osama???s associates would do that and they trained Obama.
Don???t be duped by the pretty and empty talk. Obama allows his brother to live in a slum and his Dear Auntie to live in a slum. What makes you think he has any compassion for you when he ignores his own family???s basic needs?
Think about that! Than vote from you heart as well as your mind
Hey Chuck, you're not up on reality are you? Obama will defend America and make sure you have a job, health care pay a lot less for food and gas. Go to his site and read his plan for America, you just might learn something. :)
WY WOULD I WANT THIS WOMAN AS A ROLE MODEL, SHE HAS PUT AMERICA DOWN, COOK FOR TERRORISTS, PREACHING LITTLE GIRLS ABOUT HOW AMERICA HAS NOTHING TO OFFER , FRIEND OF SATAN'S FOLLOWERS. IS THIS WHAT WE WANT IN THE WHITE HOUSE AS A ROLE MODEL FOR HUMANITY, OUR CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN? YOU LIBERALS ARE DESTROYING THE UNITED STATES.
You need to get a life! Do you know how idiotic you sound?
Barack Obama lived with a white woman for some time while he was single. But living with a white woman didn't get him the position into the "black community" that he desired, so the relationship ended.
And speaking of drug addicts.....Barack admits to using a "little blow."
It is also rumored that he had a relationship with the male music director at Rev. Wright's church.
These things are poo poo ed but other politicians flaws are magnified.
You have one more day to spread as many lies as your little brain can devise. Next you will be saying that Jesus and McCain broke bread and was absolved along with Palin. And that McCain-Palin ticket is God's will.
In the exchange with "Joe the plumber" Obama unintentionally revealed that he really is as radical as his early political mentors and acquaintances, Davis, Ayers, Wright, Khalidi etc., (gee, there sure seem to be a lot of them) and that he is into the failed economic policy of wealth redistribution. Now there is absolute proof. In 2001, Obama, the "community organizer" turned legislator, said in an interview:
"And I think one of the tragedies of the civil rights movement was that the civil rights movement became so court-focused, I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and organizing activities on the ground that are able to bring about the coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change, and in some ways we still suffer from that,"

Obama's tax and spending plans alone would be bad enough, but add Reid and Pelosi to the mix, with the three of them controlling both houses of Congress and the executive branch without any effective restraint, and you have something that should causes concern even among moderate Democrats.
See Wall Street Journal: A Liberal Supermajority:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122420205889842989.html
Indeed, some democrats are publically saying as much. See Barney Franks comments on the news, including face the nation last week, stating essentially that Democrats in Congress intend to greatly raise taxes and go on a spending spree.

Obama's ill-conceived programs will require him to tax, and his health care plan alone is a substantial hidden tax on all business, large an small. In reality, it does not really matter who he taxes, those taxes are going to be passed through the economy. He has to tax, because it is they only way he can pay for his massive social engineering experiments. Any first year economics student knows that taxation is a tool used to contract an economy experiencing inflation, because it reduces demand by reducing the amount of money individuals and businesses have to spend. It is contractionary, which is exactly what you do not want to do when the problem is that the economy is contracting already into recession. Like Hoover and FDR, Obama's plans will only make it worse for longer.

Obama and a supermajority of Democrats simply is not the change we need, nor is it change we can afford.
Thank goodness! I was afraid the lazy spammers wouldn't find this thread. </snark>
Michelle Obama is a role model for not only for African American women but women in general. I agree with the author and feel that this "new" look at women's role helps to further define ourselves. Michelle is articulate, polished, professionaland educated - in addition to being a loving mother and wife. The beautful thing is we get to see a new version of the first lady role, allowing us all to appreciate the options. I applaud and support the potential of this change. I'm glad that my daughter "may" (hopefully will) see that she too as black female can rise up to be a president or a first lady. The good news is the choice is hers!.
I think Barack and Michelle are two extraordinary people. Not because they are black or that he's running for president, but that they both present blacks in a different light than the norm that the media has painted blacks as being. These two gives white America a focal point to see that "all" blacks aren't diseases, sex-crazed, murdering, maniacs. We do have educated, prominent and professional upper and middle class blacks. Quiet as it's kept the same stereotypical "N" word that some blacks find as acceptable are as significantly the same as those whites who consider themselves "Red Necks"...as people in this nation we have various groups of people and the ideology behind that is there are poor white trash and ghetto blacks just as there are prominent and educated blacks and whites. What one fails to realize it's not just a race factor that separates us, but a social economic background, our desire to be or live our lives a certain way that people are jealous or not acceptable of. Michelle is a powerful woman whom in my opinion has faced many obstacles, she and Barack that so many blacks in America has had to deal with. When she made the statement "for the first time" blacks new what she meant, she knew what she meant. It was a phrase that resonates among so many blacks in America who have been given the opportunity and to see a black man, her husband get as far as he has signified that phrase - because it is "for the first time" for not only them, but blacks to see a black man get as far as he has, and who could quite possibly become the first African American President.
Akk thos wdoha about abortion and rights, how does the world view raising our babies to adults and then send them off to wars, or the mother thar lets her rdevout husband tie her child into a car and get blown up, or the FLDS woman/mother who sends her child off to be raped/molested/or petiphiled by an old man/ or lets get really nutts and say that the man who has a vasectomy is killing future children. I believe if we as human beings on this planet could just get a grip, monthly maintenance for women using herbs will prevent pregnancy, but those options are never presented, well how about all the pesticides and other noxious chemicals that deform our children, how far does this have to go? No-one is in charge of my experience on this planet!!
To Our Canadian Neighbor: You don't have a clue about People of Color. Your world must be so dull and boring. Barack and Michelle Obama are both highly educated and intelligent people. I know it is hard for some to understand but the images you see on TV about Black people are NOT TRUE. America needs a leader to bring all of it's people together to deal with the issues at hand and Barack Obama is that leader. Since you cannot vote in our election, please keep your missinformation to yourself.
Why do we continue to harp on the color of a person's skin? I don't care if the Obama's, the McCains or anyone else running for public office is white, black or pink with purple polka dots!! Good grief people - let's focus on what's important - health care; education; the total breakdown in the financial system; BILLIONS of dollars a day in a sand pit that has all the earmarks of another Vietnam - make your decision based on the education and values of your candidates not the color of their skin!!
I would offer this reason: because it doesn't yet not matter. "Pudding" = "proof".
I prefer open discussion to no progress.
I agree. Her support of her husband's policies is ideological agreement and real good rational thought. We're in about the same position as when Eleanor led women our of stereotypes and into a modern age, I don't watch those shows. Mass-market target is two points below average IQ to catch the largest part of the bell curve., with something a writer occasionally slips in beneath the canned laughter..
To be fair to HBO (not that they need fairness, but) the only "good people" on the show "True Blood" are the vampire and the lycan. Pretty much all the humans are boneheads. But that ain't far from the truth, is it?
To be fair to the author: everyone does *not* yet have the same opportunity. The gap is improving, but some commenters would look less silly if they weren't patting themselves on the back.
To be fair to the truth, Michelle Obama will be a great *American* role model. I appreciate that the author feels a special connection, but I love her too, and don't feel like I have to give her up just because we have different shades of skin!
Of course, I'm so white I'm pasty. I've never had to second guess if I was welcome at the big table. If you fail to understand a "darker" perspective", you are neither "right" nor "wrong"; you just don't empathize. But to suggest that there is no reason for such perspective is simply a matter of ignorance to the path of your neighbor.
For emphasis: I have always been proud to share "white" American accomplishments with all Americans. There is some truth to the notion that some "blacks" have not always accepted ownership of "white" anything.
But that's "some". And this is now. Obama 08!
People should listen to the recording of this phone call between Palin and a comedian pretending to be French President Sarkozy.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp=27491253
I have to say, Palin sounds like a nice, conciliatory person, but she also sounds as dumb as a rock. It is incomprehensible that she didn't realize that it wasn't Sarkozy, especially when he referred to "Nailin' Palin" and the fact that his wife was good in bed.
But worse than her failure to recognize the prank is the fact that when Sarkozy referred to the Prime Minister of Canada using the name of a rock star, Palin didn't even get it -- apparently she does not even know the name of Canada's Prime Minister -- despite the fact that you can see Canada from Alaska. (Ahem.)
Poor Sarah. She's in this way over her head.
Biden is so much better, where to start.....JOBS is a three letter word. More patriotic people should pay more taxes, FDR came on the TV at the beginning of the Great Depression. Are you serious? Are these real questions? Hillary is a better canindate than me for VP. Please come back and post to the board when you can respond to the words that Biden has stated and how he isn't as stupid as he makes himself seem.
The difference is, Joe knows if he screws up, the bimbo doesn't!
