If you're worried about "Guilt by Association", then you should be worried about both sides. Here's a little taste of the extremist friends of John McCain that the Obama campaign could be expounding upon, but aren't.

JOSEPH BONANNO head of the New York Bonano crime family. the Bonanno family prospered in the running of its loan sharking, bookmaking, numbers running, prostitution, and other illegal activities. Murder and kidnappings.

GOV. FIFE SYMINGTON: kicked out of office and convicted of 7 felonies, fraud, and extortion.

DONALD R. DIAMOND: McCain helped Mr. Diamond complete a purchase in 1999 that he soon turned over for a $20 million profit. Mr. McCain???s letter of recommendation reinforced Mr. Diamond???s selling point about his McCain connections as he pursued ??? and won in 2005 ??? a potentially much more lucrative deal to develop a resort hotel and luxury housing.

REP RICK RENZI (R-AZ) indicted for extortion, wire fraud, money laundering and other charges related to a land deal in Arizona.. Renzi has been good friends with John McCain for years.

CHARLES KEATING. Keating 5 Scandal. Keating made contributions of $1.3 million to John McCain, and called on Senators to help him resist regulators in exchange for the money. McCain got the regulators to back off, to later trigger the Savings and Loan Scandal which cost the taxpayer BILLIONS. Cindy???s dad also has special dealings with Keating.

RICHARD QUINN. McCain payed $20,000 a month to this political consultant, a neo-Confederate, who was one of the leaders of the state???s pro-flag faction. Editor in chief of Southern Partisan, a magazine that published apologias for slavery and sold paraphernalia celebrating the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. McCain describes Quinn as a man of integrity.

And, my favorite... G. Gordon Liddy: John McCain has repeatedly praised G. Gordon Liddy for his --adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.-- Liddy is a CONVICTED felon who plotted and executed acts of domestic terrorism. Liddy planned the Watergate burglary, the burglary of Daniel Ellsbergs psychiatrists office, the assassination of columnist Jack Anderson and the kidnapping of anti-war protesters at the 1972 Democratic Convention. Much more recently, Liddy used the bully pulpit of his radio show to advise his listeners that should Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms agents come onto their property, to AIM FOR THE HEAD because the agents would be wearing body armor. Liddy was actively instructing citizens on how to most effectively KILL law enforcement personnel.

McCain has aligned himself with Rev. Hagee, Pat Robertson and (the late) Jerry Falwell. These are men McCain once described in highly negative terms, but happily accepted their political and monetary support to secure the nomination. And, then knowing how the public views them, dumped them. Says alot about his character.

MELANDMIKE, THAT WAS SOME PRETTY GOOD RESEARCH... THERE IS ACTUALLY, A BARREL-FULL OF SCUMBAGS THAT, WHO WERE OMITTED FROM YOUR LIST BUT NEVERTHELESS, YOU TWO HAVE HIT THE NAIL ON THE "MAVERICK'S" HEAD...

THANK YOU FOR THE BRILLIANT EXPOSE...

      :)

You should post this throughout the bloggosphere. I actually believe, however, that the associations are not important unless you can pin the candidate to something that the candidate did that shows his or her similarity to the association. I think Obama and McCain have shown themselves sufficiently separate and different form these associations. What I admore Obama for is that he did not use these associations to say anything about McCain. People clamored for him to fight back with the tons of information most people who are paying attention know about McCain--but he did not. McCain seemed like he really wanted to win without the association stuff but he couldn't. He also bet that Obama would not fight on this low level and he was right.

      • Posted By: nyborn @ 11/02/2008 11:11:55 PM

So I guess that means he's on the same level with Obama and his extreme friends that praise people like Sirhan Sirhan? Brilliant Expose is Mr. Obama's amount of friends that are extreme and very left of center. No, no no we can't touch the annointed one.

Michelle is Not a Palin Pawn

Michelle can teach us that when people apply themselves to education and reap benefits, She will not need to be used and exploited by the good boys of the Republicans party as Sarah Palin has been. She will not be a Palin pawn. Michelle doesn't need to use religion as in "It's God's will" whenever she wants an idea to be legalized.

That Michelle does not fall in the typical clone of a woman intimdates people.

I think that Michelle Obama is a wonderful role model for every woman. She has it all a degree, a wonderful husband who could possibly be president of the United States and two beautiful children. You couldn't ask for a better first lady. She has what it takes to show women that we can do anything when we put our mnds to it. She has this regal essence about her that just shines and that's why I adore her. Next to my mother she is second in line, she demonstrates what a strong family background and a good education can take you. When you look at Michelle Obama vs. Cindy McCain, who would you rather see as your first lady? I'de rather see Michelle Obama because you see the love that she and Barack have and share together and you know that because they care about each other that much and the way the way that they care for their children that they would treat the country the same way. The McCains' I see no type of emothion or love in that relationship at all. It's like they're just together to be together. I guess they just feel like they need to be with someone. For that man to just come back from being a POW and leaving his first wife who had cancer to be with Cindy doesn't deserve to be president. That just shows you that he doesn't care about those in need, he cares about money and that's pretty much all Cindy could offer him. To me she doesn't represent me at all. I didn't come from money, my mother worked hard to put both me and my twin sister in school. Same with Michelle Obama both her parents worked hard so that she and her brother could go to school and become successful and that's what they did. Michelle Obama is a perfect role model for every woman, of all races and creeds. She's what this country is made of and I'm glad that she could possibly be our next first lady.

I agree with you - I have been looking for that type of response between the McCains. I see Cindy standing to the side or behind Senator McCain. I have seen many pictures that show the love and respect that Michelle has, and is not afraid to show in public, for her spouse. As an African American woman, I look at her show of love (in her eyes and the love that comes back from Obama) Being a 'woman' who does not feel comfortable with PDA - I am learning and respecting 'another' women who has that self confidence within to be able to share her love. And it is not because she is an African American (Black) woman - I admire women who have not be damaged emotionally and are not afraid to LOVE

    • Posted By: jazielady @ 11/03/2008 10:49:26 AM

You have seen the same 'eyes' that I have. I thought I was the only one that notice the love/resepct that they show each other. I see Cindy as standing away from her husband. I was unable to see any sign of being loving and in touch with each other.

How nice of "Concerned Canadian" to tell US Americans what we know. Quit slandering good people and go play hockey or something!!!!

Eleanor, Ah, what a woman. What a leader.. You share Michelle with all little girls. She'll be listening to them. They need educations, without debt that rides them to the edge of every paycheck for years. WE have to put money into upgrade, baby. We didn't do upkeep too long. Teachers get no respect because they're paid so little. We do have a problem. It's not black or white. It's the place is falling down around our ears

I measure a person by how well they are able to evaluate and appraise a situation, a claim, or facts by utilizing critical thinking, rational inquiry, practical reasoning, and research methodologies. Anyone who "believes" that homo sapiens walked with the dinosaurs, that the earth is only 10,000 years old or was supernaturally "created" in 6 days, obviously cares more about defending "magical thinking" than bona fide fact-finding or being completely honest with one's self. It is for this reason that Michelle Obama is a far greater "role model" than Sarah Palin will ever be, disregardless of either their sex or the color of their skin. Intellectual honesty and the willingness to seek out what's 'real' will trump narrow doctrine and superstition every time.

  • Posted By: izme @ 11/03/2008 9:37:45 AM

Cindy McCain has chosen to travel to third world countries and donate her time to help families. She never asked for media attention while she "walked the walk." What a wonderful example! She is a role model for ALL women in the US and around the world.
Please remember this quote ".....there is no black America; there is no white America; there is only the United States of America"!! ???? So why is our "potential" first lady only wanting to be a role model for black women only???

    • Posted By: Fort Begay @ 11/03/2008 10:45:22 AM

What do you mean by "American"? Are yu including Canada and Mexico in that statement? Use some of your Palin intelligence by saying "US Black" or "US White."

  • Posted By: RO in Reno @ 11/03/2008 10:43:49 AM

Michelle could indeed have a profound effect on this country, I am a 65YO white male who wept when I saw the 2005 remake by a New York high school student of "Bad doll Good doll" Perhaps more importantly is the fact there was no change from the original study done in the 1940's.
To a very large extent we still live in a world where many believe, the value of a black person is to be used as a lab rat while studying the slow death of syphillis. And are shocked by the resulting anger shown by someone like Rev Wright.

In the Old Testament of the Holy Bible is a book called Esther. Gov. Sarah Palin is a modern day Queen Esther.

    • Posted By: Fort Begay @ 11/03/2008 10:42:26 AM

So did your Esther in the Bible let group dress her in overpriced clothing? Did Esther fight to have taverns in her hometown open until 5 in the morning? Did Esther scorn indigenous people like Natives and their hunting and fishing rights? Did Esther exhibit ignorant beliefs about people of color? If that is your Esther, then people should reconsider your Bible.

I will be as proud to have Michelle as first lady and I would have been to have Hillary as President.
These women are the best of the best and our image throughout the world will profit. We have come a long way ! Michelle is intelligent, elegant, capable and a role model for what is best in women. I can not understand those who put Sarah P. in the same category. If Michelle had the same biography as Sarah , she would have been the laughing stock of the right as representative of the stereotypical black woman.
I am gratified and filled with joy to think we will have Michelle as first lady. Anne

This is an excellent piece. The author's intent specifically identifies the stereotypical role to which many choose to relegate Black females; but it does not exclude the case that Michelle can make for all women.
What her article insists upon is that Michelle be accepted as a real-life role model and that she be taken seriously as a Black female making the long overdue case for Black women while representing all women.

  • Posted By: nallen72 @ 11/03/2008 10:33:53 AM

Charming, whitty, intelligent, devoted to her family, truly down to earth always remembering where her roots are planted...what more could Americans want? I certainly look up to her and would be proud to have my two adolescent girls do the same. I see substance in Michelle Obama.
She WILL be a wonderful first lady!

This article is meant to continue to keep this country divided. All of these comments bashing Michelle Obama because THE AUTHOR of this article decided to label Michelle Obama as a role model for black women. I wish Samuels would have referred to the acknowledgment that Michelle Obama gave that her daughters were inspired by Hillary Clinton for running for president. To all non-white people: You will NEVER know how it is to be black. You will NEVER have stories told to you by your grand parents and great grand parents about being slaves. My grandmother told me a story about her mother when she was hit so hard in her head that she heard bells by her boss because she fell asleep while rocking their baby. I cringe and become saddened each time I think about how she must have felt. Yes, we have come a long way, buy we have much further to go. I don't blame anyone for what happened in the past. But, I think that many people, black, white, asian, native american and all, could benefit from some cultural education. Like it or not, we all have to live in this world together. And like it or not, Barack Obama is black and should he win, will be the President of the United States for ALL people.

  • Posted By: Timinraleigh @ 11/03/2008 10:30:43 AM

I thought Dr. Rice in the present administration is an excellent role model as well. I am surprised that it is thought this is the first black female role model. Role models can be republican or democrat. They can be married or single. I think we should value their ethics, citizenship, character and patriotism. I welcome her as a great role model for all but there are others as well.

  • Posted By: Fort Begay @ 11/03/2008 10:27:58 AM

I'm sorry to say that no matter how much education, articulation, and intelligence Michelle has and demonstrates, the majority will see her dark skin and blackness. If Obama wins, the hidden will become overt. Already people are slinging fear tactics and some are brazonly displaying their limitations of what Blacks can or should do in their white world. I don't know if she will my daughters' role model, but I see her a woman who doesn't stand with lips abd teeth frozen in silent worship of male deity. I see her as person who in her own right found a place where she calls her own. Maybe that's intimidating for most people, but it's afforming for some.

  • Posted By: x2c2 @ 11/03/2008 10:27:00 AM

I am a white man and I have a white daughter, and Michelle Obama will be a great role model for her. What does this have to do with race? She is a career woman that has held together a family through what must be the most trying of circumstances! Barak is a very lucky man! Tuesday night/Wednesday morning will be a milestone in US history, diametrically opposed to what happened in 2000 and 2004. I too, am again proud of America

  • Posted By: birdsbeestrees @ 11/03/2008 10:26:35 AM

The title of the article is stupid! Mrs. Obama would be a good role model period. She is a woman, and any woman who identifies with her in any way may call her a role model. She has had some misteps but I believe that she is growing and learning through this experience as well and will blossom into the kind of first lady that we can all be proud of. Michell Obama-Role Model-Period!

  • Posted By: birdsbeestrees @ 11/03/2008 10:24:00 AM

She would not only be a role model for Black women but for ALL women. She is a woman period; regardless of her color. The article is stipid-period!

Hey look this is really serious, its no longer about oooh Sarah Palin sounds sooo dumb, or McCain is just like Bush. Read what he said. He wants a civilian security force. Imagine if he gets elected, and the democrats control congress. What happens when he gets a bill passed by congress to create this civilian military force? How will he fill this army of 250,000 people. Will he implement a draft? Are you guys still certain Obama is the man we need to bring "Change"????????????????

Thank you for this article. The African-American Women that I see in the media are not the same African -American women that I know in my friendships. Let's hope that Ms. Obama can be a role model for every woman, black or white, latino or asian, not just because her husband is in the White House, but because of the intelligent, strong woman she is.
