Michelle willbe a great first lady. She is an excellent role model for girls of all races. I wish her only the best and know she will bring long needed changes to our country as will her husband. I believe this truly and not because of her race, but because of who she is.

In order for the world to see African-American women differently, the African-American community must first change the way they portray women to the world. Look at the rap music videos, listen to the lyrics to the songs, they are all degrading to women. I am a foreign black woman, and coming to America has been a culture shock. It disgusts me to see and hear how the Hip Hop Artist portrays black women. I am appalled when I see Afro-American women defending Hip Hop, describing it as a form of Art. Since when insulting a woman by calling her a whore art? Indeed Michelle Obama is a role model for young black girls, but we shouldn???t look to her as the Messianic solution to the many problems that exist in the black community. I am proud of the Obamas and they have opened the door for many blacks to run for office; however they are not the ultimate solution. The community must admit its mistakes, learn from the past and take the initiative to change things around. The choice to change is ultimately in our court and we shouldn???t seat around and wait hoping that someone will come and magically turn things around.

    Proverbs 30:18
There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yet, four which I don't Know :
The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a snake upon a rock, the way of a ship in the sea and the way of a man with a maid.
    PROVERBS 30: 20
SUCH IS THE WAY OF AN WICKED WOMAN; SHE ATE AND WIPE HER MOUTH AND YET SAID,
    I HAVE DONE NO WICKEDNESS.

Are you sure you know them ? ? ?

Are you implying that there are ANY websites or news organizations out there without an agenda? We all have agendas. Humans have emotions and personal bias. No one is impartial, some are just smarter than others. Except Fox News, they're totally Fair and Balanced. (wink wink)

I continue to read from McCain supporters that CNN, MSNBC, NYT, LA Times, Politico and now Factcheck.org are all, what is that phrase that you all enjoy using? Oh right they are all "In The Tank" for Obama! LOL!

So tell me, please what news organization does a well informed supporter of McCain trust other than Faux Noise? Please do not reference blogs as they really are not recognized as legitimate news sourses, sorry.

Is it likely Newsweek would tell the truth?

Study finds Media has Betray Trust of American People
    Newsweek Article:
Study: Media coverage has favored Obama campaign
Study finds comments on evening newscasts over the past two months favored the Obama campaign

"For whatever reason, the media are portraying Barack Obama as a better choice for president than John McCain," said Robert Lichter, a George Mason University professor and head of the center. "If you watch the evening news, you'd think you should vote for Obama."

    http://www.newsweek.com/id/165218

"A former Newsweek reporter admitted in an article this week that he has no objectivity and imagined disabling Rudy Giuliani so he wouldn't run in the presidential primary race last year.
Michael Hastings wrote in GQ magazine that he had a "recurring fantasy" that he could somehow stop the former New York City mayor in his tracks.
"I quickly realized Rudy was a maniac. I had a recurring fantasy in which I took him out during a press conference (it was nonlethal, just something that put him out of commission for a year or so), saving America from the horror of a President Giuliani. If that sounds like I had some trouble being 'objective,' I did. Objectivity is a fallacy," he said."

If the right hates the media so much, why don't they start up newspapers and publications that would be read by the swarms of people who are hungering for the truth (as they claim it is), instead of whining incessantly about the newspapers and publications we have now?

      • Posted By: Vypurr @ 11/04/2008 9:02:26 AM

Funny, libs like you enjoy all the mainstream support from ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, and most major newspapers in the country, but you whine incessantly about McCain's one supporter, FOX!

You're so transparent it's actually sickening.

      • Posted By: mcdeere72 @ 11/02/2008 3:54:00 PM

And if you the media wasn't liberal and biased to your side you wouldn't be upset?

    • Posted By: x2c2 @ 11/03/2008 11:09:36 AM

The reason that the media is biased is because they have diplomas and as we know from all the polls, educated (smart) Americans are supporting Obama. Simple really, not biased, just smart!

We should all try to respect/embrace/value each others unique culturals and ethnicities.
The simple fact is that when we as AMERICANS fail to respect/embrace/value other AMERICANS we end up being nothing more than ignorant to the outside world or other countries.
I applaud Michelle Obama on serving as someone who other young African Americans can mirror their dreams!!

  • Posted By: Proud Democrat @ 11/03/2008 5:17:35 PM

I think Michelle Obama will be a role model for all America - no matter what race. I am a white senior who feels Michelle Obama conducts herself with grace, courage, style and compassion. I am so proud to be supporting the
Obama/Biden ticket and I will be so proud to have Michelle Obama as this Country's First Lady.

    • Posted By: Vypurr @ 11/04/2008 8:55:20 AM

Glad for you... and I'm glad Michelle can finally be proud of her country once she's in the White House!

This election is not voting on race, it is SUPPOESED to be about what is best for our nation. Where are the morals that this country was founded on???? It is NOT ok to kill innocent babies that had no choice to be conceived. This nation needs to get back to God and this "race" thing needs to stop. I would never cast a vote based on skin color, it would be for the right person to be in charge of our wonderful nation!!!! And by the way isn't it wonderful to be in the land of the free so we CAN voice our OPINIONS and not be put to death! It is not a country to be ashamed of....if so, maybe you need to consider moving to another country and seeing just how good you had it in America. Sue J. Maryland

  • Posted By: gotta_b1 @ 11/04/2008 7:43:21 AM

I was ashamed of my country when I read about:
    - the treatment of Chinese immigrants in the 19th century
    - internment of Japanese citizens during WWII
    - the Tuskegee experiment (injecting black men with syphilis, then denying treatment while "observing")
    - allowing German WWII POWs to ride in "whites only" railcars, while forcing black soldiers into "negro" cars
    - the 3/5 compromise
    - NINA (No Irish Need Apply) signs in the late 1800s
    - The trail of tears

The list could go on..... but I've been really proud of stuff like
    - winning WWII
    - making slavery the moral issue of the civil war
    - apologizing to the Japanese-Americans who were interned
    - seeing Irish-Americans embraced into our political & social landscape
    - Brown v. Board of Education
    - the 1950s & 60s civil rights movement and the culture change that resulted

My mother is an African American women who raised me (a black son). She never made it a point to tell me that I was black, I guess because that was done by so many others (on both sides of the track). I think that we should leave Mrs. Obama alone and let her figure out how she wants to be first lady. To me, it is apparent that she knows who she is and that she needs no help from others defining who she is. As an African American and mostly as a plain old citizen, she and Barack make me proud to be an American.

Just because the first lady potentially might be black doesn't mean it's now going to be all about black women, or even blacks period. It's about EVERYONE, our WHOLE country, no one singled out, and that's the way it has been. There has also been plenty of programs out there for black youth, so it's pretty stupid to say that she might finally bring some to the community. Maybe you are just a lot racist and little patriotic.

The united states is on its knees anyhow, after eight years of the Bush administration. Michelle Obama might be the very thing to blow a wind of change through the musty corridors of the white house. She can teach us a lot. I think that it will be amazing to see her and Barak in the white house, because for the first time in years there will be a commitment to the ordinary people. People who dont want to be rearing their children as cannon fodder for a war that no one believes in any more. Hasnt it been said over and over that you guys want out of Iraq? Certainly the rest of the world are sick to death of the sabre rattling of the Bush administration and they want peace.
As far as it goes, the only black american women we seem to see on the television are the ones on Jerry Springer, howling abuse at no good men. It could be a brilliant thing to show the world that the stereotype is not all there is.
Vote Obama...its the only thing to do...if I could vote for him in Ireland I would...since he is part offaly man, and has links to my home town.

You know that saying about arguing with a fool and not knowing who the fool is - well this is such a moment. So go out and vote if you have not done so already and get ready to celebrate a new dawn and a new era.

Sure, she's not going to have part of her husband's administration, just like she had no part or influence over his campaign -- you are either so funny or naive or stupid -- or think we are -- which is it, NEWSWEEK? The media and their "fiction" writing. They USED to REPORT the news -- NOT MAKE the news or INFLUENCE the elections by writing their egotistical opinions constantly. Americans are FOOLS.

    • Posted By: Canuckian @ 11/04/2008 2:45:39 AM

Your comment states that Americans are fools. I assume that you are American, so I should automatically consider you a fool? That was a less than clever statement you made, don't you think? When I consider your posts, though, perhaps you spoke truly about yourself.

Thank you for that beautiful and honest dissertation! As a Black professional woman who has been constantly had to fight the stereotype of being some kind of angry man hating neck rolling "sistagirl" in the business world as well as socially, I really appreciate your honest discussion. Good work!!!
