The problem with Obama is a simple one. One association does not a radical make. But in Obama's case, the list of left-wing radical mentors and associates is seemingly endless, (Davis, Ayers, Wright, Khalidi , etc., etc.) with a new revelation practically every day. With that trend, a picture begins to emerge, and that picture is that Obama is as steeped, not in just left-wing political thought, but in radical left-wing economic and race ideology, to the same extent that Pat Robertson was steeped in the ideology of the radical Religious Right. I would not have voted for Pat Robertson for dog catcher, and for similar reasons, I will not vote for Obama.

That pile of associations is similar to the pile of proof Saddam has WMD, and in each case is nothing but innuendo. What's amazing is that anyone would admit that each one is bull but then act like the pile of bull means something.

Michelle Obama's success in both her personal and professional life make her a very fine role model for America and the world. What a refreshing change if young people, regardless of their circumstances, are inspired by the Obamas to get an education so they can live their own dreams. How much better a world this would be to have young people whose dream is to contribute to society rather than to go along with screaming rock star crowds.. And it would also be helpful if our conversations (including this discussion) were to show measure of courtesy and respect for others. That is also an Obama message that we see in their treatment of others.

OH, YES...don't forget that she and her husband sat in a church for 20 TWENTY years and didn't realize that their pastor (and I use that term loosely) practiced Black Liberation Theology and was a total anti-American zealot....who called our nation the USA of KKK........not GOD BLESS AMERICA, but GOD DAMN AMEICA.....he's historically made friendships and allies with ALL of the WRONG people....and IS NOT FIT TO SIT in the oval office.....He's not fit to sit on the same platform as John McCain...the true PATRIOT....McCain/Palin '08

Keep up with the rantings, it only helps Obama. May I ask if you will be leaving the country after he is elected? Heading to Canada? You won't like it.... very cold and the French don't like Americans.....I lived there.

      • Posted By: ICYEYES800 @ 11/01/2008 11:40:01 PM

Could it be, by some stretch of the imagination....that NOBODY likes you....you're very NEGATIVE and obviously lacking social skills, SO, YES, I am for the first time in my life considering leaving the US, at least until Osama ben Biden is forced out of office...I choose not to work for the welfare state that Osama is creating..... Oh lord, can we get this in writing? For the first time in history, the Republicans are talking about moving to Canada!!! It's only Monday night and we've already won!

        • Posted By: Fort Begay @ 11/03/2008 11:19:23 AM

I have a hard time believing you have a job. What do you do? I hardly think it's enough to affect the economy that your Republican heroes have created and destroyed. Believe me wherever you go you will be there, and you won't pause a moment to reflect on that consistency. Do Canadians a favor, go to Mexico instead. There you just might speak as well as the medium-educated Mexicans. You will be in your lot of expertise.

Nobody likes Pia? IcyEyes, this takes the cake. Pia is one of the nicest, most personable bloggers on this site. Almost everybody gets along with her, even the McCain supporters. I like Pia very much. She does a lot to humanize the discourse around here.

I think that you are projecting your own anger and hatred onto Pia. So sorry for you that you are afflicted in this way. Maybe find a way to love yourself, then you wouldn't have such a hard time getting along with others.

          • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 11/02/2008 10:57:22 AM

Aww Nins, you are way too generous and good to me, thank you for your very kind comments. I feel the same way towards you. I do have to admit to being very mean lately. This long negative election and some personal conflicts recently, have taken their toll. I try to ignore posters such as Icy but I can't help myself. Nins, I hope you continue to post after the election, if you don't you will be sorely missed by me and all of our other blogger pals.

            • Posted By: Nins @ 11/02/2008 12:25:58 PM

You're welcome Pia. Yes, I can see that you are feeling a little frayed. I hope that the personal stuff sorts itself out soon. I have found that the book "Power of Now" can really help a person detach from negative emotions and get more in touch with God. Sorry, I don't know your beliefs, so I hope this is something you can relate to.

As to blogging after the election, I probably will not, except maybe the next day or two to express my jubilation when Obama wins!

And don't let IcyEyes and the other hate mongers get to you. Your center is good. You can hold your head up proud of yourself.

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 11/02/2008 10:50:46 AM

You are lying to yourlself if you believe you have social skills and I don't. But this is not about me. Read what the majority of the posters here have to say about you. You are full of hatred and despair. As for Montreal Canada, I lived there as a child before becoming an American and yes, the majority of the French in Quebec do not like Americans.

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 11/02/2008 11:00:53 AM

You are so funny, Icy. How can my candidate be history when he is making history? He is winning the presidency! Stop with the desperation, it's very unbecoming...

PS Icy babe, thank you for the compliment.. I am eloquent and I did go to a wonderful school, a private Catholic school.

Going to a private Catholic school you sould be one of the first that would disagree on where Obama stands on abortion.
Just remember that God is in control and He will put in the White House the one that this country deserves. If Obama is elected, it will be because God has decided that this country is no longer deserving of His blessings and we will be on our own. If, by the grace of God, McCain is elected than we will all know that God has not given up on us and He has chosen to given this counrty another chance.

You guys need to get your stories straight. Some of you are sarcastically calling him the Messiah and others are saying that God will abandon us if he wins. Which is it? this is the reason the Republicans are going to lose, they can't even agree on how to argue their points.

        • Posted By: Nins @ 11/02/2008 1:38:08 AM

Actually, I think Pia has a right to tell you to shut up. Yes, her comment was succinct and did not point out the fact that what you posted was twisting the truth. You do go on and on with your rants, most of which are filled with lies.

Could you once write something about McCain's policies and plans and why you think he would be right for America? Try a little positive thinking. You're going to need it on November 4th, because McCain is getting routed. Sorry.

Abbychleo must be a white woman!!

Until you have walked a mile in my BLACKNESS you can not begin to understand what Mrs. Obama has to the table. She is a true depiction of what a STRONG WOMAN is; never mind her color. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY AUDLT LIFE I AM PROUD OF MY COUNTRY. My 90 year old Grandmother (who passed away this Jan) was the daughter of a slave and it prides me to see that WE (Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians, Muslims, Christians, and Jews) can look beyond the color of and man's skin and judge him by the content of his character!! This is what I took from her statement.

Have you ever looked to see your grandmother???s tears at the anniversary of cutting her oldest son down from a tree where he was hung less than 4 miles from her home? Or have you ever had to drink from separate water fountains because of skin color. Have you ever felt water tearing off your skin from fire hoses because you were standing up for RACIAL EQUALITY? These are some of the things Blacks have gone through and for a Barack & Michelle Obama to rise from the ashes; is REMARKABLE!!!

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 11/02/2008 6:21:46 PM

No, she said, "for the first time in my life I am truly proud of my country."

Personally, I understood her sentiment and don't hold the comment against her in the slightest. It's been easy to be terribly ashamed of America over the last eight years - I felt the same way as her in my adult life. I was 20 when Bush started, so that means that as an adult I've had two years of Clinton and eight of Bush to live under. The last eight years have been appalling to watch. I've been angered, saddened, made to feel helpless, appalled and horrified by our use of barbaric torture methods, felt a rip in my soul looking at the pictures of Guantanamo Bay and the Hell on Earth that it is. I feel it's going to take us decades to atone for what we've done, if we do it at all.

I give her credit for having courage enough to speak her views. It's a refreshing change from the canned and blind patriotism of my countrymen. And quite honestly - we don't hold it against her because we feel the same way about Barack Obama and his capacity to change this country.

role model for black women? There is a whole lot more than black women in this US. Why can't she and everyone else settle for just being a role model for women. You call that unity and diversity by continuing to say what kind of role model and possible victory she and he are for 'black' people. Until that attitude stops and we look at being the leader possibly for every race in this US, it will never change. And the 'black' african american race has a rude awakening for themselves if they think obama is all for them only. He's going to be your worst nightmare if he takes the helm! anyone that voted only for race are the idiots. And we are headed down a much rougher road than we ever had with Bush or any president in our history for that matter. Biden knows exactly what we are headed for if Obama gets in, and he's already said it in a couple different ways, but he figures he's up for vp, so why not go for it. He could also very likely be 'a heart beat away' from pres too!
Age has nothing to do with who is a heart beat away! Idiot! you obviously, don't know what an idiot is, go look in the mirror. no matter whether obama wins it or not. Yous are all still idiots and will dearly pay, unfortunately so will all the rest of us for your blind racist choice.

Jennifer, why don't you just go meet up with the KKK., or better yet, just go hang with obama, he'll screw you possibly soon enough. Either way there is going to be trouble whether it's the 'blacks' crying because their inexperienced boy didn't get in and they go looting and burning, or whether your favorite people get upset and make biden the new pres. I'll make sure that who's walking with me turns and trips you. Wake UP idiot.

        • Posted By: Blue in AZ @ 11/04/2008 12:17:24 AM

It's so hilarious that someone who speaks negatively about the KKK also uses the phrase "the blacks" in a non-ironic kind of way. hewalkswithme, please decide if you are for or against racism. It will make it much easier to make fun of you.

    • Posted By: Kboogie @ 11/03/2008 6:38:43 PM

Let's remember....Michelle isn't the one who wrote this article. She DID NOT say she was a role model to black women. The author created this headline. The anger directed towards the Obamas is unwarranted.

      I'm trying to understand this.

  • Posted By: amj191 @ 11/03/2008 5:44:49 PM

ALthough it is important for us as Black women to know who we are and where we have come from, we must also remember that we are Americans first! Yes Michelle will be a great role model to us but in reality to ALL women. We can't limit our relevance to just us. As history has proven we are role models to the world. God I pray that we all begin to truly SEE ourselves as every woman and every man not just defined by skin. Michele and all Black women should champion causes that benefit poor whites, hispanics, blacks and asians. Let's take this opportunity to expand our view of ourselves. We are not just our SKIN.

    • Posted By: Hewalkswithme @ 11/03/2008 5:54:45 PM

Its important for every woman to know where they have come from. What makes you any more special or that you have gone through any more than anyone else or any jewish person or any American Indian for that matter. The American Indians had it worse than blacks could ever imagine, and they still do today. What compassion have you shown them. Yesterday is yesterday and today is today. Learn from the past and stop dwelling on to the point of blinding yourself for today. Obviously we have come a long way in many ways in this US and that is a great thing, but pleeeeeeeeease stop with the 'black' card. It's really getting ollllllllllld. You have the same opportunities as any other us citizen that not only black men and women died for but the white ones that your race continues to beat in the ground. Michelle Obama is proof of that. She has a chip on her shoulder bigger than a boulder and she has a major negative attitude. She proofs it in anything she has written, whether its her old college papers or the look on her face now when she talks about 'black' 'black' black'. Get in the real world Michelle. It's US citizen and human being, not ''black' 'black' black'. Get over it.

  • Posted By: mariethomson @ 11/03/2008 8:00:52 PM

Michelle Obama would be the worst kind of role model for any young woman, black or white. She is a bitter, snotty and unpleasant woman. She was on one magazine cover dubbed as "Mrs. Greivance." She has a greivance against the very country that let a very average student and middle class person from Chicago have the opportunity to double her salary right after her husband was elected to the office of Senator--and oh yes, he was the one who pulled that off.

She is touted as beautiful, but is homely because of the nasty expression she always wears on her "bitter beer liberal" face.

I surely hope young women of all colors and shapes and sizes will aspire to be a positive influence on the world and give more than they take while Michelle has clearly taken a lot from being a free person in America, but is an ungrateful--------!

    • Posted By: snee @ 11/03/2008 8:09:02 PM

I don't find Mrs. Obama to be bitter, snotty, or unpleasant in the least. The fact that she can be gracious in the face of hate (like this comment) is in itself inspirational. Doesn't all this hate hurt your heart?

      • Posted By: proudofAmerica @ 11/03/2008 8:35:10 PM

If you look at the pictures taken of her when she is not aware, she is a very angry woman. She regularily has a look of discontent and anger. That is not a role model I will be sharing with my children or grndchildren.

        • Posted By: JC0101 @ 11/03/2008 9:21:03 PM

Can you send links to some of these pictures? I've never seen a picture where I thought she looked angry. Maybe you're making this up.

          • Posted By: waittosee @ 11/03/2008 11:39:14 PM

Maybe you should see the picture of her campaigning in Colorado Springs with her angry expression and her first in the air taken by the Associated Press. If the press REPORTED the news, instead of MAKING the news, that picture would have been in the papers NATION WIDE.

            • Posted By: Blue in AZ @ 11/04/2008 12:09:44 AM

OMG, an angry expression? Put it on the cover of every newspaper around. Hey at least she can still MAKE expressions. Cindy needs to lay of the Botox.

        • Posted By: Blue in AZ @ 11/03/2008 11:32:10 PM

Somehow i doubt that she regularly has a look of discontent or anger. Maybe if you were photographed every time you left the house you wouldn't always appear outstandingly happy either. Most people don't smile every minute of the day, unless they're botoxed all to hell and on pain pills, like Cindy McCain.

  • Posted By: waittosee @ 11/03/2008 11:52:34 PM

For all the Obama promises to "bring the nation together", I fear that racism may be worse than ever because white people who have NOT been racist will feel they are having their faces rubbed in it and being made to pay for those who ARE/WERE racist in the past, such as paying for slavery, the KKK, etc. I really hope this does not happen, but with all the talk about righting the past, it definitely concerns me.

  • Posted By: sdhdavis @ 11/03/2008 1:25:31 PM

This woman's best friend is a racist and openly hates white people. Sorry not impressed by Michelle Obama and it has nothing to do with her being black. It has to do with the fact that she chooses to have a racist as her best friend. I think that choice tells me everything I needs to know about how Michelle Obama feels about me.

    WELL SAID BILL COSBY !!

'They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English.
I can't even talk the way these people talk:
    Why you ain't,
    Where you is,
    What he drive,
    Where he stay,
    Where he work,
    Who you be...

And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.

And then I heard the father talk.

Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads.
You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.

In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living.

People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an Education, and now
We've got these knuckleheads walking around.

The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.

These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids.

    $500 sneakers for what?

And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.

I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit.

Where were you when he was 2?

Where were you when he was 12?

Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol?

And where is the father? Or who is his father?

People putting their clothes on backward:
Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong?

People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something?

Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body?

What part of Africa did this come from??

We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa ...

I say this all of the time. It would be like white people saying they are European-American. That is totally stupid.

I was born here, and so were my parents and grand parents and, very likely my great grandparents. I don't have any connection to Africa, no more than white Americans have to Germany , Scotland , England , Ireland , or the Netherlands . The same applies to 99 percent of all the black Americans as regards to Africa . So stop, already! ! !

With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap .....And all of them are in jail.

Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem.

We have got to take the neighborhood back.

People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now.

We have millionaire football players who cannot read.

We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job.

Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us.

We have to start holding each other to a higher standard.

We cannot blame the white people any longer.'

Surprise! Someone who has not completed his/her homework. Yes, Bill Cosby made the original comments. The essay is, however, not his. He has often responded to and supported his comments. What did he mean? He was trying to, in his words, "self-empower" those who have blamed others for their own ills. Truly, this is something that you don't have to be black to understand. So many throughout our country blame others for their circumstances. Just look around today. Who are we blaming for our own financial and economic situations--certainly someone else; it doesn't matter whom. So, please, before you pounce on some vitriolic email that has been circulating for over three years, do your homework!

Now, back to Mrs. Obama--have you also circulated the rumors about her thesis? Have you read it? Do you know what it says? Better yet, do you understand it? Or, are you as others in this post, who take one or two quotes out of context? The thesis is about responsibility. The questions posed surround the issue, will you take your education and do something for your community? Having been on a college campus at roughly the same time and later attending an Ivy League business school, I can understand the questions she posits--even though I am a white female. How many discussions I had with my friends during and after college about Affirmative Action and how, although intended to help minorities, it often made my friends feel as though they would be or were hired for the wrong reasons. They didn't know whether they were hired for their skills and knowledge or because they filled a quota. How awful to lose that confidence in your own abilities. So, now you say, at least they have jobs--I cannot tolerate such arrogance. In graduate school, the overwhelming majority of my classmates went on to jobs making six figures in places like the finance industry. How few of them pursued jobs to help the community or remembered their communities with their time and money! This is what Mrs. Obama's thesis is about. Read it with an open mind and with empathy. Maybe you can garner more than a couple of quotes out of context.

I received three copies of this same email. People have been passing this crap around for two years.

This moronic scumbag Samuel J. Wurzelbacher "Joe the Plumber" had his AZ driver license suspended

    http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/128323

Wurzelbacher, who lived in Mesa in 2000 and had an Arizona driver's license, had his driver's license suspended by the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division on May 4, 2000, following a nonpayment of a court-imposed fine for civil traffic violations, according to court records.

...owes nearly $1,200 in back taxes, according to public records, still owes more than $700 to the Mesa court system.

Records show he was cited for failure to stop at a red light and for failure to provide proof of insurance on Feb. 9, 2000, in a black Dodge truck at the intersection of Dobson and Baseline roads in Mesa.

After failing to pay his original fine of $627.50 issued in March 2000, his license was suspended and the fine was handed over to a collection agency along with a 16 percent surcharge. The now-resident of Holland, Ohio, still owes $727.90 to the Mesa Municipal Court, according to court records.

Hopefully the collection agency will break both of his legs so he'll never be able to walk nor work ever again. This typical Republican scumbag deserves it.

Don't you get it? Who Joe the Plumber is or isn't has no bearing on the answer Obama gave to the question he asked. He could have been a mayor or a criminal--his question is the one we all wanted Obama to answer and he did. Clearly and succintly Obama stated in precise wording exactly what Karl Marx proposed in the Communist Manifesto. We should take money and property from the rich and give it to the poor and control the lives of everyone.

      • Posted By: summer1216 @ 11/03/2008 10:36:31 PM

The middle class is the real engine of growth in this country, and easing the tax burden off them a little bit will produce more economic growth, and therefore a bigger pie, for everybody. The whole myth of taking money from one group to give it to another group assumes a zero-sum game, which is exactly what you DON'T have.

      • Posted By: JC0101 @ 11/03/2008 9:29:23 PM

What Obama is proposing is not Marxism. Requiring the rich to pay more in taxes is called progressive taxation. This is the system we have had in this country for decades under both Republican and Democratic administrations. If Obama is a Marxist then so was Reagan.

      • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 8:12:33 PM

That's patently false. Even John McCain says Obama isn't a *socialist*, much less a Marxist. It's pretty silly to focus on four words instead of the thousands of pages of clearly non-Marxist proposals on his website.

But by the time the executioner??s guns went silent, the people's guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time "the change" was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. Luckily, we in America would never fall for a young leader who promised change without asking, "what change?" Would we?

    • Posted By: summer1216 @ 11/03/2008 10:32:08 PM

There is copious information on "what change" if you want to look it up.

    • Posted By: rogerhall @ 11/03/2008 8:00:20 PM

There is no Habeas Corpus in this country right now. Our primary civil right is gone, and all of the others are meaningless because of it. Granted the press is already in the bag, but perhaps we could be worried about the mess we are in instead of dreaming one up.

Off topic: I just heard that Barack's grandmother died today. Best wishes ma'am, and may you speed to a happy reward.

Why are we even discussing her???? Any person that says they can finally say they are proude to be a AMERICAN FOR THE FIRST TIME.... What, you should always be proud. She is a unworthy and has forgotten her roots A American,,, That is the most important thing we fight for everyday and she throws these ignorant words around like nothing. She and her husband should be ashamed.

    • Posted By: summer1216 @ 11/03/2008 10:27:30 PM

Why do you keep bringing up that dead horse? Do you think that defines Michelle Obama? Do you think she wasn't speaking in the context of the whole thing she was trying to say? Do you -- are you so vapid -- that you actually think she meant that she is NOT proud of her country? Out of everything you've ever said in your life, you know that someone could pick out a few words and twist them to have nuance you didn't intend. You need to look at her entire life to make a judgment about her, which obviously you are too lazy or self-righteous to do.

    • Posted By: JC0101 @ 11/03/2008 9:49:27 PM

I assume you must also be troubled by Sarah Palin's praise of the Alaska Independence Party which wants Alaska to secede from the US and whose founder said "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." And you must be very troubled by Todd Palin's 7 year membership in this party. Obviously the Palin's must not be proud of their country if they pal around with secessionists. At least, unlike the Palins, Michelle Obama doesn't want to break up her country.

As a mother of two black males who could never pass a paper bag test, I value Michele as a woman I can point to who is everything a woman should be, including being black not white. And for the person who said she is "full black", the only way an American "Black" woman looks like Michele is due to a number white slave owners who left thei mark upon almost every black in America. Please let's get real about color in this country.

White people, especially those that practice racism (white supremacy) know black females (and black males) far better than they let on. If that were not so, the system of racism (white supremacy) could not have endured as long as it has.

[If you don???t understand racism (white supremacy)---what it is and how it works---everything else that you do understand will only confuse you.] Neely Fuller, Jr., author of The United Independent Compensatory Code for Victims of Racism (White Supremacy); A textbook/workbook for thought, speech and/or action for victims of racism (white supremacy).

    • Posted By: centex @ 11/03/2008 12:21:44 PM

I don't believe the definition of racism is "white supremacy". The definition of racism is: "animosity toward other races: prejudice or animosity against people who belong to other races".

      • Posted By: Chem-Kim @ 11/03/2008 10:18:39 PM

Definitions should not promote confusion but should reveal truth. The basic tools that hold white supremacy together are: 1) the deceitful use of words, and 2) violence. Racists (white supremacists) do not take kindly to their victims tampering with their preferred tool: words. Violence is messy and expensive.

There are three basic categories of people under the system of white supremacy: 1) non-white people; 2) white people, and; 3) racists (white supremacists).

Logically, the definition of -racism- must follow from the definition of ???race-. Persons who self-organize as the white race decide who is and is not a member of that MASTER organization. This master organization, the white race, TOLD AND DEMONSTRATED to people who formerly classified themselves by their tribes that they were NOT white and that their tribe was of no significant importance.

The only FUNCTIONAL form of racism in the known universe is white supremacy. Non-white people are not self-organized anymore than are cell blocks in a prison. Prisoners are permitted and/or encouraged to take pride in their place in the prison rather than on the uncomfortable fact that they are being held in prison.

-Race- is a construct. A construct serves a purpose. The construct of race ,(-racialism- as it is called in so-called South Africa) ,has served no advantageous purpose for persons who are not classified as white. The construct of ???race- has no other functional purpose than the practice of white supremacy. Promoting the idea that there is more than one race promotes the falsehood that anyone can practice ???racism- and that everyone, and not just the White Supremacists, is responsible for the disastrous relationship between white and non-white people.

Many black/non-white people have blood relatives and friends who could pass for white but who are classified as non-white. Many black people have close associates and church members who ARE white. Black people, generally do not have animosity toward any person because he/she appears to be "white." The animosity, when held, is caused by a well founded suspicion that such persons are Racists (White Supremacists).

In the exchange with "Joe the plumber" Obama unintentionally revealed that he really is as radical as his early political mentors and acquaintances, Davis, Ayers, Wright, Khalidi etc., (gee, there sure seem to be a lot of them) and that he is into the failed economic policy of wealth redistribution. Now there is absolute proof. In 2001, Obama, the "community organizer" turned legislator, said in an interview:

"And I think one of the tragedies of the civil rights movement was that the civil rights movement became so court-focused, I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and organizing activities on the ground that are able to bring about the coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change, and in some ways we still suffer from that,"

    2001 Chicago Public Radio Interview.

Obama's tax and spending plans alone would be bad enough, but add Reid and Pelosi to the mix, with the three of them controlling both houses of Congress and the executive branch without any effective restraint, and you have something that should causes concern even among moderate Democrats.
See Wall Street Journal: A Liberal Supermajority:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122420205889842989.html

Indeed, some democrats are publically saying as much. See Barney Franks comments on the news, including face the nation last week, stating essentially that Democrats in Congress intend to greatly raise taxes and go on a spending spree.

    See http://www.taxfoundation.org/blog/show/23617.html

Obama's ill-conceived programs will require him to tax, and his health care plan alone is a substantial hidden tax on all business, large an small. In reality, it does not really matter who he taxes, those taxes are going to be passed through the economy. He has to tax, because it is they only way he can pay for his massive social engineering experiments. Any first year economics student knows that taxation is a tool used to contract an economy experiencing inflation, because it reduces demand by reducing the amount of money individuals and businesses have to spend. It is contractionary, which is exactly what you do not want to do when the problem is that the economy is contracting already into recession. Like Hoover and FDR, Obama's plans will only make it worse for longer.

The democrats failed social engineering policies in the housing market are what brought us to ruin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr1M1T2Y314&feature=related
Even Bill Clinton says so. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsynspIqAoE
Obama and a supermajority of Democrats simply is not the change we need, nor is it change we can afford.
