O is not the savior of the world..hate to break it to you but the good news is Jesus still is......
wide is the road that leads to destruction and narrow is the way that leads to everlasting life...as for me and my houswe we will serve the Lord!!!
Some of you may not realise that it was CLINTON that caused the economical plight we are in thats right ..he did away with the law that prevented sharks from gambeling with your money...so unloke some of you may like to blame this on Bush No it was the Dems fault.
So waht about O. O by the way stands for zero..cause thats how nuch experienc O has....180 day is congress and all he managed to do was vote present 90% of the time and far left the rest of the time...in fact he is so far left that he voted 4 times that it is OK to deprive an infant from a botched abortion from healt care..last time I looked at the constituation it said that ALL me have the right to LIFE...thats ALL not some..not those we deam worthy..not those that we think are worthy...thats ALL///why on earth do you think our forfathers wrote that? That was the very stance that freed the slaves....Life Liberty and the pursuit of happiness..but the dems want to twist it around and they think the pursuit of happiness (on my dollar) is what comes first...No LIFE comes first...And heres the thing..I can't believe that he is a Christian..I don't think the man knows what a christian is after all look at what he called church and who he called Rev. for 20 years..someone who preached'"hate whitey" does that sound like a Christain preacher? sounds more like an Islamic school for terrorists! America you are being dubbed by the far left and by hollywood and by extremesists...just where has he gotten all his money from...a lot of his money is coming form the middle east but does the news report on that NOOOOO they would rather report about Palins cloths..Hmmm!! And what did the judge seal his birth cert..whay is it not out on public dispaly like Mccaisn and why are his health records not out on display..could it be because he can't prove he had been immunized in the US and that his health records would prove he was not born in the US... I fine this all very fishy..remember terrorists blend in they try to invoke trust..they are patient,,,,,,,look at the scientist they just cought in Ca last year..he was married to an American, he worked with American scientific secretes for 20 years and for 20 years he was swlling these formulas to China...and we just found out.........now I am not saying that O is a secret agent of anything like that but if we are not being given the documents that we ask for..If there is a shadow of doubt..then why take a chance with the highest office of our land.......if you want a true hero, a tue American, A man of honor...then vote Mccain

This ignorant mindset is exactly why MCCAIN will lose--Hiding behind your "faith" and using it as an excuse to be hateful and judgemental is revolting and disturbing. Surely, this is not God's teaching. As I recall, Jesus loved the outsiders, the disenfranchised, the scarred and imperfect. He accepted all people for their differences and imperfections. He looked at all with love and forgiveness. Maybe a look into the ugliness and scorn in your heart would be time better spent.

How right you are. Girl, you hit the nail on the head. Thank You. There are so many in the religious right that are so spitefull, so full of pride and self rightousness. They would hardly recognise Jesus if he came back today.
And by the way, only idiots proclaim Obama to be some type of Savior. Only fools put messianic hopes on a man. My support for Barack stems from the fact that his is smarter and has better ideas than his opponent.

War hero?, read the true story and check the Iran-contras and neo-nazis ties. Oh What about Palin and the AIP - Joe Vogler and her friends in the AIP influencing her policies in Alaska. Dont forget her re-distribution of oil wealth to Alaskan and her illegal appropriation of private land to built the sport complex, then force the owner in court to give up the title (cuba s style....)

Obama is all speech. You liberals think you are so cool, so trendy, so hip. You make me laugh. Obama has a plan? What plan? It keeps changing. A tax cut for those earning under 250K? No...wait..it's 200K...no wait...150K! No wait..we'll have to wait and see.... BS! He's a sack of wind. Just give me one supported case where our economy has seen any significant growth from "the bottom up?" How ignorant of economics such a principle is. Businesses build economic growth, not governments. Governments regulate that growth and every time they try to interfere with or be the purveyors of economic growth, they screw it up, leading to recession, depression, etc. Jimmy Carter did it, Clinton almost did it, and the Dems who screwed around with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac back in the 90's and again in "05 did it.

Obama says he is going to get more tax dollars from the big bad "wealthy"?It's just typical political class warfare he uses to get elected. The "wealthy" didn't become nor remain wealthy by being stupid. The "wealthy" will only shift theie wealth into new and different tax-deferred or tax-free investments to avoid these additional taxes. Then what will Obama do? It's a big joke to be played on Joe Taxpayer. "Ooops! Sorry Mr. Middle-Class taxpayer! We couldn't get the taxes from the "wealthy" so we need to get it from you."

"Bottom up economics" is just a new name for Socialism and if people think things are troubling now, just wait until Obama and the Dems have total control for two years. Nancy Pelosi? Harry Reid? Barney Frank? Are you kidding me??? Is there ANYONE out there who is truly so ignorant that they believe our government is better skilled and or equipped to manage business in this country better than businesses themselves are? Hold on...let me get you Obama lovers out there some more quaaludes...Fashionable doesn't fix problems. Bill Clinton was proof of that. I'm still waiting for Bill and Hillary's promise of fixing Healthcare back in the 90's? It was in the bag. Hillary guaranteed it! Did I somehow miss the memo???

I agree, you are way to angry to be in public. Did you forget your medication today?

      • Posted By: Scottanderson34 @ 11/03/2008 7:25:28 PM

Dude, there will be no tax cuts no matter who wins. We are running a historic deficit. Think it through. You want to bankrupt the US? Just keep spending at its current level and push through TAX CUTS! You are a dreamer. I hate taxes too, but this is reality. Its just an election time game they all play. If you oppose tax cuts you lose. Its that simple. Nobody is going to give us tax cuts. That would be foolish right now. Even after the Bush Tax Cuts, we still find ourselves HERE!

Comment: You are obviously NOT a student of history. By your standards, you would have kept us out of WW2; after all, we declared war on Germany and Italy (along with Japan) after Pearl Harbor; they didn't attack us either. Moreover, as for us being strongest when surrounded by allies, during WW2 our allies amounted to Britain, who was all but beat and would have been invaded if not for us declaring war on those countries who never attacked us, France, who already was beat, and Russia, who had switched sides during the war to become OUR ally, then of course switched back after the war was won, (with allies like that...). We are strongest when WE are strongest, not when we are dancing to the beat of someone else???s drum. The problem with you liberals is that, for you, history started yesterday. As for tomorrow, I have no problem staying home; I already voted. As for you? I suggest you spend the time at the library reading up on, and learning, our history, which has a persnickety way of repeating itself.

Why so angry??? It is my experience that people who do not know what they are talking baout are the ones who get all riled up and start calling peple names and trying to degrade them and their views instead of having an intellectual conversation about our differences. If you actually listend to the words obama says, read the speeches he's given, or watch the full speech instead of the 30-sec sound-bite on TV, maybe read his 2 books and all about his policies - again, instead of relying on the msm to tell you everything you should think and parrot back to your friends - try to educate yourself on the actual ISSUES. If you did this, you would save youreself the embarrasment of people KNOWING you have no clue what you are talkign about.

Education people - that is the key to bringing America back to her glory days - without an educated populous, we are doomed to fail!

All this talk about how McCain has superior experience in foreign policy, military service & years in the Senate rings hollow. Why? #1 He was wrong about the reasons for going to war in Iraq. #2 If he's such a military expert and claims he knows how to find Bin Laden, then why didn't he tell his buddy George W. Bush where to find him. #3 The way he conducted his campaign has been a complete debacle and rejected by many conservatives...where's the strong leadership that he supposedly commands? If he had demonstrated strong leadership, his campaign wouldn't have had been disjointed and all over the map.

  • Posted By: RavenCMT @ 11/03/2008 9:27:34 AM

What WE did "right" to become a world leader was to LEAD THE WORLD, not continue to beat it with a stick. If you can't understand that the last eight years and the illegal war in Iraq have done serious harm to our reputation and moral authority abroad, do me a favor - STAY HOME TOMORROW.

The fact that other nations are interested in our politics is a result (as the article makes clear) of the fact that what happens in American politics effects the every-day lives of people around the globe. That Obama is a wise enough leader to recognize this fact and to remember that America is always strongest when she is surrounded by allies (who we have lost as a result of the Bush doctrine) is not a weakness. Working WITH one's allies to tackle global problems like global warming, terrorism, poverty, trade, etc. is not pandering or seeking other nations' approval. It is LEADING, as America was once ready and able to do, with a steady hand, clear moral vision (not tied to nut-job far-right conservative Christianity) and the weight of the world's respect behind us. If we keep going the way we are now - bankrupting our country and our moral authority - you will see another nation, like China, come to world dominance.

Since when did it become a sign of weakness to lead? Stop with the isolationist nonsense. It has been shown time and again throughout history to be the wrong path for America and the world.

Dude, we were in the right during WW11. But that does not mean we ALWAYS make the right choices. The Bush Doctorine is bad. Invading Iraq, pointless. America's standing in the world depends on the choices it's leaders make. Not all of our leaders have been wise. There is so much corruption and cronyism in Washington today, its no wonder the seeds of dissent have broken our unity in half. So put up with a dissenting voice. Thats what democracy means.

JSGIUNTA: What is your problem, why are you so angry and completly wrong. We went to war with Germany and Italy (along with Japan) because they were part of the Axis. Germany had been sinking US merchant ships of the coast of the US for years, YES OF THE COAST OF THE US, NOT EUROPE. Grow up and admit your little world is much bigger than you thought. You ideals are very simular to another group of uber conservative.... called the Taliban. Think about that as you have to endure 4+ years of "Liberal Oppression"

Very nice history lesson which really added nothing, Except to further prove your ignorance. If you are one to talk about history lessons than please look back at the last 8 years and see where that has landed the world. and to say that what the world thinks of America, is another arrogant thing to say, wake up its not all about you!!! America is a huge part of the world, and thier policies effect everyone, but than again you would have no problem with alianating them all just because of "history" . I also love how everyone speaks about the left media, ... have you ever watched Fox, or even watch any of the Rep strategist talk, they cant form an arguement. Looking back at WWII , There were alot more alliles besides Britian and Soviet Union, and the world looked to the US for help in a time of global crisis, to say that ya if ur friend is down weak and getting beaten there is no point of going to help him, is an interesting frame of mind

Why the threat of more racial division and that the crime rate would go through the roof????? Media direspected...heck they haven't had my respect in almost a decade so no big deal there.

But why the threats...in every Election one person wins ...one doesn't...one is usually Dem and one Rep and lets throw in a few Inde...why would this one be so different. The assumption that somehow this one is different...why because we keep getting it shoved in our face by the media.... This is what is wrong with the world in general....if we don't get our way or we feel (rather it is true or not) that somehow we were wronged...we threaten violence...mixed with fear of violence.... Heck lets call it like it sounds..... sounds like you would want a revolution?? An exaggeration, yes, I really hope so... You aren't the first or the second on the posts that I've read to voice the threat of violence.......I'm really tired of the hate and anger.

Do you believe that this is the way Obama would want his voters or supporters to act...is this his message? Is this what he would support if he happens to lose? I really hope not...because if that is true or that is what you believe then that just reinforces to me that he shouldn't be President....

Oh boy, now the Republican right has to go and drag up Jimmy Carter to try to score some points (Travis716 calling him "arguably" the worst president in US history). It was, without a doubt, a troubled presidency, but let's look at how far ahead Carter was on many issues: 1) he brokered the Israeli-Egyptian Camp David 1979 peace agreement which still stands today as a cornerstone of any hope for future peace in the Mideast; 2) Carter made the case of Andrei Sakharov a public one. The Realpolitik rightwingers like Nixon and Kissinger stayed silent about the man who was a champion of human rights in then-communist Soviet Union, but Carter was unafraid to speak out about Sakharov. 8 years later, Sakharov was finally freed from internal exile by Gorbachev). 3) Carter took on "big oil" and sought to use their huge profits to push the US car industry to build more fuel efficient cars and encourage Americans to think about fuel efficiency. Nobody listened to him then, and what a shame, because our car industry has fallen decades behind the Germans and Japanese in well-engineered fuel-efficent automotive technology. Even with a low dollar, Detroit can't compete internationally with its lousy products. Under Carter, Detroit had started to make some progress, but then came Reagan, and the subject of fuel-efficient cars was out the window. Sorry, Travis716, but for the record, the worst president in US history is Bush, and not the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jimmy Carter.

Who are the clowns that wrote this article??? America will look smaller if it doen't elect Obama?? Is that a serious statement??? Obama is unqualified to lead this nation. He has little or no track record....never had a JOB in the private sector....has tons of questionable "friends" and used unethical if not illegal means to purchase his "mansion". As for the French lecturing US on the evils of slavery!! America won its independence in 1783..all slaves were freed by 1865...UHHH that less than 85 years..how long was slavery LEGAL in the French and British Empires?? Europe just wants to drag us down to their level...u klnow..unable to defend themselves..without American blood and treasure..which they are happy to look down on..unless Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union are looming over them!! My first choice was Hillary..but I'll take Sen. McCain over Rev. Wright's star pupil any day!!!

  • Posted By: Sheri in Ohio @ 11/03/2008 4:56:35 PM

Excellent article!! I would only disagree with the idea that America will look all the smaller if Obama does not win. I think whether he does or does not win the process affirms America's free election system and on-going strong government. As far as the comment that the world hopes for its first president, that is obviously just an acknowledgment of the world's interest in the US election and the world's and US's hope for salvation from GW Bush. All of us should embrace any good world leader. That is not the same as saying one leader rules the world.

  • Posted By: Charlie Self @ 11/03/2008 6:37:29 AM

It's nice that much of the rest of the world supports my choice for President, Obama, but it is essentially irrelevant.

One does tend to wonder why Europeans continue to call slavery "America's original sin," as if their countries never practiced or supported slavery. Slavery didn't originate in the U.S., nor was it practiced any more brutally here than in other countries. European slave traders worked through Arabs and Africans to gather the slaves to ship elsewhere. These same countries now try to place all the onus on the U.S.

    • Posted By: raymo @ 11/03/2008 1:58:17 PM

You are correct, however slavery in America evolved into one of the most brutal forms in recent human history. You had millions of people physically, mentally, and emotionally de-humanized and surpressed for over 250 years while this country (both North AND South) grew rich and profitable off our labor. When we finally were freed, (which only happened out of political expediency, Lincoln never actually intended to integrate freed slaves into society.) we endured a further 100 years of Jim Crow social and political supression adn murder and terror in the form of lynching and terrorist groups such as the KKK. That is hy blacks still lag in several socioeconomic standards. People forget it has only been 40 years since the success of the civil rights movement. And look how far we have progressed. When we elect Obama, it gives me hope of my future and my children's future.

    • Posted By: beannemarie @ 11/03/2008 8:07:40 AM

I happen to live in Europe just now and I think this article captures quite well how those natives I know and perceive the importance to them of America and it's President.. Or what it would be if America were perceived as having a positive influence in the World.

We had a great chance to get something positive done about world terrorism after 9/11. Bush blew it completely by boggng us down with an unnecessary, unjustified war in Iraq based on fabricated "intelligence". As soon as he spit out the word "crusade", we were doomed. In the Middle East "crusade" is emotionally equivalent to "holocoust" for Jews. Bush should have known that! What followed -- what we have actually done in Iraq has unfortunately seemed to confirm that he DID know what he was saying.

I hope you can remember that part of us while we try and find it ourselves. I am so sorry that we look as we do now. Only 9% of us believe things are going the right way.
It is not the people in America that have changed from the ones the world looked up to.
I pray the people of the world will give us a chance to correct our flaws.

With the hopeful attitudes expressed around the world for the election of Barack Obama(as evidenced in the above article) and feelings of optimism manifest by his constituency here at home it seems that we might have chanced upon a fortuitous time in history where, based on the charimsa and insight of a new leader, the world might actually have a chance to come together as something of a united entity. We shrug off anything not having to do with the USA. If this man wins, the world will know they can spit on us and walk all over us like a rug, because he's a spineless, wimp with no experience at all. He thinks talking he can win over all those that would die to see our thoats cut. He thinks his cheap blahblahblah can have to same affect overseas as it did here with the vast majority of ignoramuses. Poor Americans!!! They have SO very much to learn!

Well, I deal with small and big business quite a bit...the one thing that I hear from the people in charge to include owners...if Obama wins...possible lay offs. At this point i do not like the extreme alternate that will cost job cuts. Yes it was under Bush's watch...but it was the Democrats that pushed for the mortage affordablitliy for everyone...including those that just cannot afford it. I had to save my money for a long time before I can buy my first home..if you cannot afford it...save then buy.

    • Posted By: Steve the engineer 08 @ 11/03/2008 11:28:56 AM

Betty...and replying to those who replied to your remarks. I have lived overseas during my childhood because of my father???s profession, which includes England, Indonesia, Singapore, Germany, and Japan. In addition, when I served honorably in the US Military, I have toured most of Europe and Middle East. In the US itself, I have lived up and down the East Coast and the Midwest, where I finished my high school and college years. When I first entered the military I was effectively in the poverty level...where I remember I had to sleep on the floor so that my wife and son can sleep on the cot, could not afford vacumn cleaner so that my wife had to sweep the carpet with a broom, two toast for breakfast, etc...etc. I can elaborate for a million years about my "sob" stories. However, my family is classified as successful now...thru nothing but HARD work. I do feel ashamed that we may have a president that calls my family un-patriotic or selfish for wanting to minimize the taxes that I pay....$81,336 in taxes that we(my wife and I) have paid to date. I believe in paying taxes...for strong national defense(pay raise to military personnel at least), good infrastructure, healthcare, supporting small businesses,...etc. However, when I am told that a part of my taxes will be used to give those who do not pay taxes(spread the wealth) its rather concerning....sending a wrong message of what this country is all about...competition and growth stimulation. I had shown my kids (10 and 17) our check stubs...without giving them any un-biased opinion, there thought was that "its not fair"...even kids can figure that out. As for as the world is concern...well, lets think about our country first. Last point, I will support whom-so-ever that will be elected president...as I believe in the Democratic process. For now, GO McCain/Palin all the way!!! Oh forgive me if my spelling or grammer is not the best...in a hurry, working on my day off. Go McCain/Palin.

The fact that all these foreign correspondents and other nations are so consumed with "The Messiah" only convinces me that my choice of John McCain for President is correct. I have never understood the left's need to pander or cow-tow to every other nation's whim, seeking their approval like some star-struck adolescent. These people think it's in vogue to be "one" with foreign nations, believing somehow that they possess the wisdom or knowledge that we somehow don't, and who continually play the apologist or appeaser, when dealing with any other nation. Let???s not forget that WE are the world leader. WE must have done something right to get to that status. WE are the country that most want to come to. It is OUR economy that, if we should fail, will have disastrous results for the rest of the world. Why, in God's name, would anyone want us to be more like any other nation, than who we are? Should we NOT be the world's leader? Who would you rather take that slot? China? The fact that these other nations are so enamored with Obama is because they know that he will position this country so that it falls more in line with how these other countries think we should be, rather than what???s best for us. That will only weaken this country. Anyone who believes it???s in our best interest to give up that which has made us who and what we are, needs to pick your favorite foreign country and apply for citizenship. The one nice thing about the USA is that no one will ever force you to stay here; the door swings both ways.

So, how much does the GOP/RNC pay you anyway. Don't lie or I will call the IRS on you....

"Just give me one supported case where our economy has seen any significant growth from "the bottom up?" How ignorant of economics such a principle is. "

Yeah, you are probably right. After all, what would those Nobel-winning economists know about whether Obama's plan would work and would help the middle class in this country. What would the Republicans who have come out in favor of his economic policies know.

You would know best, brj99. You must have a seriously advanced degree in "I believe everything the right wing spoon feeds me."

Well....I'm still waiting for your one supported case??? And as for "Nobel-winning economists" and Obama's plan; that's a laugh. Since WHEN has ANY economist been right about the future? Has anyone seen their crystal ball? Academics? "Those who can ...do. Those who can't teach!"...Another liberal. all hot air.

How about the "stimulas checks issued by your boy GW Bush. The idea of giving people money...because they spend it.... instead of putting it in a bank or money market.

just one question--was this supposed to be an actual news article or was it considered to be an op-ed piece?

Steve, it's Americans like you who make me proud to be an American. I too was in the military and traveled extensively, which allows you the perspective to make informed, logical conclusions. You are correct for asking where it was along the way when we lost the concept of working hard and being rewarded for your efforts, rather than working hard to reward those who feel they are entitled to the fruits of your labor, instead of laboring hard themselves. Remember, a right is defined as something that doesn't diminish anyone else's rights, like freedom; not like someone's "right" to free health care, which isn't free, because someone else ends up paying for it, or someone's "right" to own a house they can't afford, which we ALL are paying for now.

You know, I'd like to respond to your comment, Change1234, but it is so rife with mis-spelled words, poor syntax and sentence structure and cohesiveness, not to mention that it is bereft of logic, I wouldn't know how to go about answering it.

Well thats typical, its always easy to look at the small things like grammar, and completly ignore the whole point. Reminds me of McCains campaign. That you cannot argue, or you can at least try.
