It is important in the extreme to observe that these calls for ''sacrifice''eminate from those who will sacrifice the least. Whether Francophiliac hacks like Nagorski ,or NEWSWEAK scribblers such as Darman[who actually has a NEWSWEAK video on the subject of ''sacrifice''], their jobs, even if torpedoed by the increasingly untenable NEWSWEAK [whose position in the Washington Post group ownership of the uniquely liberal rag is failing as we write], will be assured in some other media venue. SLATE perhaps,MOTHER JONES,or similar leftleaning mouthpiece.
VD Hansons opposite number over at JONES,as it happens,is leftwinger Kevin Drum, who writes today of this ''sacrifice'' fearing its more lasting implications. If it is seen by Americans that they are the ones suffering, and they have merely replaced one set of ''plutocrats'' or ''aristocrats'' with another, who continue to live fat on our dime, rank with the corruption we are already seeing in Washington under the end of the second year of Democrat leadership, these will rebel, and we will go through yet another series of ''toss the bums out''all over again.
It becomes important to acknowlage that the successes of the Clinton administration in the domestic sector were those of a split government, with both sides having to practice compromise. The all-GOP show wrecked this, and there is no reason not to believe that an all-Democrat show will not wreck it further. Indeed as admitted to last week on C-SPAN by Rhode Island liberal socialist Sen.Sheldon Whitehouse,''there are no plans to work with the Republican minority'' in the new administration and congress.
This will be a catastrophe in waiting, for all of America. There will be no ''national healing'' or ''reconciliation''. the lines on both sides of the fence will harden, and little will get done that will ultimately benefit Americans who were not a portion of the ''buy now pay later'' group so glibly advanced by the above writer.

It will be a sigh of relief if Obama becomes the president and stops the cycle of death and destruction, gloom and doom, blood shedding, blood letting, blood curdling, warmongering, scare-mongering, fear-mongering and further killing of hundreds of thousands of innocent human beings in the Middle East and Afghanistan.

I wish and hope that he would adopt a policy of negotiation to achieve political objectives rather than using bombs, bullets and B52 bombers to bully others into submission.

I expect him to abandon President G W Bush cowboy philosophy of ???kill you enemy before he hits you??? and restore America???s stained image abroad.

This moronic scumbag Samuel J. Wurzelbacher "Joe the Plumber" had his AZ driver license suspended

    http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/128323

Wurzelbacher, who lived in Mesa in 2000 and had an Arizona driver's license, had his driver's license suspended by the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division on May 4, 2000, following a nonpayment of a court-imposed fine for civil traffic violations, according to court records.

...owes nearly $1,200 in back taxes, according to public records, still owes more than $700 to the Mesa court system.

Records show he was cited for failure to stop at a red light and for failure to provide proof of insurance on Feb. 9, 2000, in a black Dodge truck at the intersection of Dobson and Baseline roads in Mesa.

After failing to pay his original fine of $627.50 issued in March 2000, his license was suspended and the fine was handed over to a collection agency along with a 16 percent surcharge. The now-resident of Holland, Ohio, still owes $727.90 to the Mesa Municipal Court, according to court records.

Hopefully the collection agency will break both of his legs so he'll never be able to walk nor work ever again. This typical Republican scumbag deserves it.

I'm disheartened by all the socialist talk. Mostly coming from people who don't really understand what true socialism entails. We've never had socialism in this country, and no one is remotely proposing that.

Instead, we have some protections built in to mitigate the effects of depressions, such as social security for our seniors, and medicaid. When the first was proposed by Franklin Roosevelt, the conservatives cried Socialist! Years later we couldn't do without it, and many Republicans have voted to protect it over the years. When Johnson signed the Medicare act--the cry went up: Socialist! Today, where would millions of seniors be without it? And again, scores of Republicans have supported medicare and even voted to expand it.

Why do people continually rail against something that can provide a little bit of relief for the most vulnerable people in our society? Here's my favorite Socialist quote from FDR--and it's applicable today:

"The test of our progress is not whether we add abundance for those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little." --Franklin D. Roosevelt.

If that's socialist, I'll take a little Karl Marx over Karl Rove any day.

    • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 11/03/2008 7:05:16 PM

No one is proposing socialism? Hmm. Seems to me that a lot of people are content to have corporate welfare, just not social welfare.

Why is it ok to bail out Wall Street, but not Main Street? Why is it acceptable to buy back millions of bad mortgages to wipe out bad debt, but not ok to help the people losing their homes avoid foreclosure.

No, I think there are many people who are advocating socialism - they are just calling it something else. When the government takes over private enterprises and uses public money to do it, socialism sounds like the right word to me..

Obama???s plan for jobs on Pennsylvania, Virginia , West Virginia , Kentucky, Tennessee, and other states, and Obama???s plan for dealing with the high cost of energy, including electricity generation.

An audiotape of an interview Barack Obama did in January 2008 with The San Francisco Chronicle has surfaced in the final days of the presidential campaign. On the tape Obama tells the interviewer, ???so if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can ??? It???s just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

Now, why would Obama say that in San Francisco and not Pennsylvania? We hve seen this before, yes? Something about religion and guns.

And why did Newsweek take their story on the Pennsylvania campaign down yesterday after this story broke?

???Nowforsomethingotherthanthetruth??? exemplifies the measures employed by the McCain campaign starting with the anonymous smear emails that began when McC hired the Bush propaganda machine.

This deception campaign tries to benefit from party loyalties. It preys upon hate, prejudice and fear, and on the ???unanswered questions??? fabricated by the anonymous emails this campaign perpetrated. Links to debunks of many of those fabrications are in an earlier posting.

This is by far the greatest extreme ever in American politics. It is a fundamental threat to our political process. It would further entrench the Bush operatives who took over the McC campaign, and the republican lobbyists who represent only the megarich who looted our economy.

McC was a maverick. He promised to root out the lobbyists he said are what???s wrong with Washington. He said he would not take the low road employed by the Bush machine when it smeared him. He sold out when he got behind and subscribed to the ideology that the end justifies the means.

McC would continue the Bush tax give away to the rich that McC previously opposed and called ???irresponsible??? because ???it only benefits the rich.???

McC now wants to give more billions in tax give aways to oil companies that have just reported the largest profits in history for two consecutive quarters, while he claims that lowering taxes for everyone under $250k in after-deduction income will somehow keep businessmen from starting businesses.

???Nowfor??? has employed many of the themes in the anonymous viral emails. He recently said it was ???revealed that Obama has PLO buddies??? referring to Rashid Khalidi to whom McC donated $440k:

    http://richmonddemocrat.blogspot.com/2008/10/mccain-funded-rashid-khalidi.html Guilt by association.

"Nowfor" continues repasting that the cause of our problem is a law decades old that encourages loans to qualified low income people.

Alan Greenspan said the cause is that an entire financial system was built outside of regulation; "we trusted" these self-interested looters ???to regulate themselves???. Credit Default Swaps resulted. They increased from $106 trillion in '02 to $531 trillion under R stewardship.

The legitimate news has reported that Fannie and Freddie paid many millions to McC's campaign manager, Rick Davis, who received up to $35K/mo. from Fannie and Freddie from 2000 to while he has been McC's campaign manager.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/22/us/politics/22mccain.html and http://www.newsweek.com/id/164732/page/1

Trillions were looted from our economy because the Rs allowed it. The Rs, including McC's campaign manager, are in the pockets of big money.

Without solutions, it is necessary to campaign with deception, misdirection, fear, smears, hypocrisy.

Attempts to hijack our political process with deceit and abuse of the trust of party loyalties are reasons I'm voting for Obama after 40 years of never voted for a Dem.

I am completely dumbfounded by the media's blackout of the prank call to Palin!

Dont the citizens have a right to know what their Vice Presidential candidate really is? We are on the verge of electing a completely dumb person to the position of the most powerful person in the world! Wont it be shameful for US to elect such a woman? Or is it that it is so shameful to even print it?

In fact, the audio is the most hilarious thing I have ever heard.. and the most scary as well! She behaves like a schoolgirl.. doesnt even know who Canada's PM is, when Canada is the centerpiece of her foreign policy experience?

    • Posted By: Lee Holmes @ 11/03/2008 3:24:06 PM

Heh. Even more people in West Virginia and Pennsylvania as we see from todays Pittsburgh Daily Register are dumfounded over the liberal press in San Francisco sitting on an Obama videotape from January 17 of this year at the St.Francis Hotel whereby Obama promised to ''bankrupt''the coal industry. The United Mine Workers are already raising hell over the Obama tape, and McCain has taken advantage by dispatching more people to these two states, while Obama gets to explain himself again, under a slavish press that has not bothered to confront Obama on any of these issues.

Update. The president of the Ohio Coal Assn. another swing state has weighed in ,calling Obamas plans ''extraordinarily misguided''.

MARKETWATCH Nov.03,2008: ''Coal Association President Says Obama Remarks Make It Clear: Obama Not Supportive Of Coal''

Expect energy prices to skyrocket in the Appallachian regions /Ohio Valley creating an opening for a 2010 recapture of the House or Senate or both by the GOP,as higher energy costs as a portion of killing coal will also create massive layoffs and enhanced unemployment.

You are right about this, VB. The media has done very little to discuss this Palin mistake.

People should listen to the recording of this phone call between Palin and a comedian pretending to be French President Sarkozy.

      http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp=27491253&#27491253

I have to say, Palin sounds like a nice, conciliatory person, but she also sounds as dumb as a rock. It is incomprehensible that she didn't realize that it wasn't Sarkozy, especially when he referred to "Nailin' Palin" and the fact that his wife was good in bed.

But worse than her failure to recognize the prank is the fact that when Sarkozy referred to the Prime Minister of Canada using the name of a rock star, Palin didn't even get it -- apparently she does not even know the name of Canada's Prime Minister -- despite the fact that you can see Canada from Alaska. (Ahem.)

Poor Sarah. She's in this way over her head.

  • Posted By: cferns1530 @ 11/03/2008 2:33:48 PM

Palin was and is dumb as a rock. It's not right to criticize her family or how competent she is as a mother but based on her answers regarding the economy and foreign policy?...Dumb as a rock. I love Tina Fey because she uttered almost the same thing as Palin and still cracked me up.

Obama has 63 Nobel Laureates working on his policy team. They are developing a plan to push America back to the top. Who is responsible for McCain's planning? Americans would be shocked to find that Douglas Holtz-Eakin is the sole person responsible for planning McCain's policy for America's future. Holtz-Eakin is also McCain's economic advisor, filling two full time positions on McCain's team. How can one single man (an economist) be responsible for developing a viable technology plan for our future?

Obama has an enormous pool of the most intelligent, talented men and women in America working for him. Soon, they will be working for us: for you and for me and for America.

And let's not forget that the McCain campaign spent more on Palin's makeup artist than it did on it's foreign policy advisor. When you pay your makeup artist DOUBLE what you pay your foreign policy advisor, it is time to start examining your priorities.

You look just fine without makeup, John. And Sarah is young enough not to need any. So cut the crap, and start paying some good ECONOMIC ADVISORS so you can have a fiscal plan to present to America. We're in the middle of a huge global financial meltdown, and you are worried about hair and makeup? PLEASE start worrying about the middle class, John. Please.

It is so interesting that the is NOT ONE blogger writes about how much they love McCain, or how good McCain's policies are and how he will help America. Many Obama bloggers say good things about Obama and his plans. But the pro-McCain bloggers say nothing good about McCain, they only post lies about Obama, trying to damage him. If I wasn't an Obama supporter already, I would become one, just to distance myself from all this hateful invective.

Higher risk mortgages were the result of unscrupulous lenders and mortgage brokers not democrats. It was the unchecked profit motive and lack of oversight of the financial markets tied to mortgages that caused the meltdown, not the mortgages themselves. The SEC and democrats fought for more oversight, but failed. Greenspan (a Republican) kept interest rates to low for to long and the world was awash in cash heading to the US which really created the bubble. In another matter, Russia is an emerging democracy and is much more than a rich oil exporter. Russia's assertiveness has nothing to do with oil. That is a made up analysis by the west because Russia is too hard to understand since it requires looking in at American dysfunctional behavior. It is just easier to label Russia. Such simplistic views. I think the article in trying to be a catch all, says very little.
