my thing is ..i do not believe that 80% or MORE of the population is voting for the right reasons! They are either black and voting 4 obama b/c he is black or they are white and voting for mccain b/c they wont vote for a black man.. either way i can tell you things will only be worse between blacks and whites from here on out.

All I can say to this is "I AGREE"! Scary isn't it?

I have a biracial grandson and I am not voting for or against anyone due to race. I am voting for who I think is the best man for the job. Last time that I checked we have the right to do so unless that has changed and I am unaware of it. When my senior starts texting me from high school telling me that she is scared because the students are going "CRAZY"! Most of these kids cannot vote and one child was beat up when she said that her parents were voting for McCain/Palin. What scares the h ell out of me is the fact of kids acting this way over who you are to vote for and above that what have parents told their children about this election. I think we all have the right to decide who we vote for and that is a right that I have lost family members over. I told my child to not express an opinion because that is your right to vote for who you want and no matter what you say publically when the curtain is pulled only you know what you did........................

It's all about the Ice Cream

The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third

grade in 2008. The presidential election was heating up and some of

the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election

for a class president. We would choose our nominees. They would make a

campaign speech and the class would vote.

To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class

members We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students

should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia

were picked to run for the top spot.

The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates

were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got

lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia's mother. The day

arrived when they were to make their speeches Jamie went first. He had

specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by

promising to do his very best. Every one applauded. He sat down and

Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was concise.

She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream." She sat down.

The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream."

She surely would say more. She did not have to. A discussion followed.

How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure.

Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it. She didn't

know. The class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was

ice cream. Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a landslide.

Every time Barack Obama opens his mouth he offers ice cream, and fifty

percent of America reacts like nine year olds. They want ice cream.

The other fifty percent know they're going to have to feed the cow.

I believe that all politicians offer ice cream, but we can't be too sure at who's really going to deliver!

I'm sick to death of the race card thing!! My husband has a McCain sticker on his truck and all of a sudden he is accused of being a racist even though the man accusing him doesn't have a clue who Obama picked as a VP running mate. The guy was voting only on color. Tell me that isn't racist. My mother works with a black lady who constantly complains that "we used to have to sing for our supper". Guess what she never sang for her supper and our family never owned slaves. Get over it and quit using excuses. We had a group called Blacks for Obama but if we'd had one called Whites for McCain there would be such an outcry of racist accusations as you've never heard before. We are sick of walking on eggshells. It is getting OLD!! You think Obama is going to cure all your ills. Let's see 6 to 8 months down the road what he's done for us all. Some of you just might be suprised but a lot of us won't.

The nationwide race should not be announced until ALL the polls close.

  • Posted By: Sage621 @ 11/04/2008 1:53:17 PM

This is a great discussion. It's too bad that so many of you base your decision on what you believe is wrong with the "other" candidate. I based my vote on the merits of my candidate. I refused to allow the negative campaigning and outrageous untruths about the candidates persuade my vote. There is incredible wisdom in both of these candidates and both of them love this country. Don't get caught up in "us against them". Love your candidate, vote for your candidate, and love your neighbor no matter which candidate she or he votes for. Both candidates want what is best for this country and whoever wins will take us to a new place and surely does not aim to make us suffer more. God Bless our candidates, God Bless our election process, and God Bless all the people of the World.

I wish that the American people would educate themselves about the facts. Newsweek has a link to the myths (just a nice word for lies) that have been told throughout this election. Many people are afraid of the truth and will not read it for themselves. Those people need to be carefull. Spreading lies is just as bad as making them up. I am a white 38 year old woman that is proud to say that my eyes are open and I see the truth. Obama 08!

For all of you who claim Obama is a Christian.......... Do you even know what a Christian is?????? Call me what you want, but there's no way a man with the "views" that Obama has is a follower of Christ. You can claim that Christianity has no part in this election, but I ask you what was our country founded on? Take a look at all the Bible scriptures written inside on the wall of the Washington monument.

    • Posted By: ncfinsfan @ 11/04/2008 1:52:13 PM

I suppose that you are implying McCain is a Christian. McCain went to war and was a POW that was loyal to his men when they offered to let him go. Very commendable. He stuck through the beatings, the mistreatment and the torture. Then when he returned to America he found his model wife had been in a car accident, 4" shorter and disfigured. How loyal was he to her? Well soon after he got back he went into a millitary college to become an Admiral, having cross country affairs and then divorced his wife. I guess you have to decide which sin is greater even though it states that no sin is greater than the other. It is up to God to decide who is His follower not somone who thinks they know.

Measuring by some of anti Obama comments, it shows that education is still not at the level required for the average American to make an intelligent rhetoric. "Appearance over substance" still is the core life style of the average American citizen. I can only hope that Americans are willing to really look beyond their own borders, and not get their information about "Socialist" Europe from the myopic "celebrity style"/nationalistic American news media like CNN or FoxNoise. Take it from me, a European Social Democrat, Obama is not even close to being a socialist.

The biggest problem is not who has been president for the past 8 years but who got voted into Congress in 2006.Those of you who think otherwise need to do your research. If you think its bad now you havent seen anything yet. Those of you wanting to paint the White House black need to look at the issues and not the fact that a half black man is running for president. Those of you not voting for a man due to the fact he is half black need to wake up as well.Learn the facts, learn the issues and make your choice that way.

40YearR you can try and make us belive that you are rep.but you are dem all the way.Its unbeliveable how you dem think that McCain is the only one that put out negitive ads and everything said by Obama the truth.Give me a break! Both campaines put out the same lies and misreps.to get you on there side.So don't try to give us thatObama holier then now crap. You are just bidder that kerry didn't get in and want to blame all of worlds on Bush.Well this country was doing pretty good for most of Bush's term intil dems. took over congress then everything started going south.Obama has alot of you fooled with his pie in the sky, silver 'used car salesman'talkbut in the end he isn,t any different the any of the rest. With that being said we all have to decide who we think will serve our country the best and vote because in the end we are all Americans and it is our country and will have to live for four year with the choice

all you are using is if if if, IF YOUR GRANDMOTHER HAD BALLS, SHE'D BE YOUR GRANDFATHER., SO SICK AND TIRED OF YOUR PREDICTIONS. The old saying, better to keep your mouth shut, than be thought a fool, than open it up and prove it..

  • Posted By: legaleagle1963 @ 11/04/2008 1:48:26 PM

I have a biracial grandson and the reason for who I am or not voting is not due to race! I am voting for who I feel will do the best job for "US ALL"! Each and everyone of us has an opinion and are entitled to it. I have gotten text messages from my senior in high school about the way that the children in school are acting today. One child said that her parents were voting for McCain/Palin and was beat up for it. "Most" of these children are not even able to vote at this point in their lives. The attitudes that our youth have over this election is scary to me but the parents that have instilled this in them is even "SCARIER"!

If Obama wins.....the fanatical muslins will be let loose and for sure there will be another attack on American soil. I lost 2 family members on 9/11. I personally dont care if he is black or white....but... a muslim who follws Christian beliefs - excuse me? There is no such thing. Good luck America!!!!!

  • Posted By: pvelzy@gmail.com @ 11/04/2008 1:12:48 PM

Well, it won't be long now soon Obama will be president and he can commence to fixing all the things that the republicans screwed up the last 8 years. They have failed at virtually everything they got thier greedy fingers into, and if you wanna see how the people that vote republican are, either through ignorance or just unbridled hate, watch one of the mccain rallies where people shout "kill him!" and "terrorist!". mccain did'nt even stop and say that those comments were out of line whitch shows me how unamerican he is and how terriable republicans are in general just as people, pilot 30 years ago or not ,and for all gun nuts that are scared of obama takeing your right to bear arms away let me say that your fears are unfonded, mark my words, you'll see cause the guy will proboly get 2 terms if he wins

    • Posted By: Ritafour42 @ 11/04/2008 1:48:02 PM

Lady you are speaking out of ignorance. Why don't you go back to school and learn how to read and write before you get to involved in the election of the president. You are a wonderful example of what the democratic party represents.

    • Posted By: WallyWI @ 11/04/2008 1:21:16 PM

Acutally... he did tell the crowd to back off. Sarah Palin didn't at one of her speeches. Get your facts straight!

700 billion could have bought Ford a 500 million dollar production plant to build eco friendly cars and save us all money at the pump while reducing our need for fossil fuels. Don't bail out the banks, bail out the people and businesses that will put money into the banks. I stick by the Republican credo, "I can spend my money better than the govt. can".

I am a 28 year old Black American and I am voting for Obama not because he is "Mixed" I am from the South born and raised and I am so sick of the "good ol boy system" this is a new time and change has to come. It is 2008 and it is sad that the older generation is hung up on the color of skin. I think that he is the best candidate for the job. I work hard I am a nurse with two kids and I work hard for my money and at some point the backbone of America needs a break. I don't know what world you live in but people should not have to choose between lights and healthcare or food and gas. Wake up! Grow up! America is a melting pot of all different people we no longer have the white pot and the black pot.

Picking on someone patriotism is right? How about just outright lies? 45-of-51 in fact-check lies is right? Maybe you should vote for him for the other reasons. It's more believable.

thats your problem because your white you think you are white. oh please lady you cant even give the reasons why you are voting for him, just because he is "right" and he is a "maverick". thats all you keep talking about "MAVERICKS" get over it. he is not going to win.
