Take a blank map of the U.S., and a box of crayons. Shade all the states with the highest rate of high school dropouts + lowest rate of college graduates in one color. Then shade all the states with the lowest rate of high school dropouts + highest rate of college graduates in another color. Now superimpose that map over a political map. They match almost perfectly. Lack of education and exposure leads to mind-numbing fear, and with it, an irrational craving for the familiar -- even when the familiar is the actual cause of the problem. "You can fool half the people of the time, and those are the ones you want to focus on," -- George W. Bush, March 2000, during a Georgetown constituants dinner

ah I graduated from college with HONORs, I have an engineering degree, I MOVED from one of those "liberal" states you mention above to someplace with more traditional family values... because I didn't want my children to grow up thinking that handouts are a way of life!!!

How sad our country has become when closed minded people make comments like the one below!!!!!! We are not on this planet to judge others...and most DEFINITELY not the color of their skin. As an AMERICAN I want the person I feel will run this country the BEST possible way....whether they are black, white, green or purple, male or female, old or young....they have to be the BEST to do the job. I do not judge others, that is not my role, that is the role of a more Holy being. This country is in the midst of some of the worse problems I have seen in my 49 years....isn't it time we see ourselves as one and stop the fighting among ourselves!!!!! We don't have to worry about another country coming in and bombing us or spreading poisons to kill us off......we are doing it to ourselves. No wonder other countries look down on the US.........homee of the free and the brave......also the stupid and the racist.

This is why our great country is in the state is is currently. The biggest problem we have is that because of the campaign and election processes, the people who are the most qualified don't want or need the headaches that getting the job will bring. That being said, I do feel that of teh 2 candidates this time around, Senator Obama is by far the better choice, for a long list of reasons that include his intellect, temperment, and background.

The other thing that scares me are some of the outright vitriol spewed by some of the posters. On this forum, it seems the majority of the nasty crazies are of the GOP ilk, but I have seen nearly as bad from Dem supporters on other sites. The aptly named "spongebrain syndrome" seems to be rampant here from some posters that are still trying to say Obama is not American, is Muslim (so what if he was?), knows terrorists (what boomer/post boomer doesn't?), etc. etc. The scary part is that most posters from either side refuse to admit that their candeidate could have done something wrong. Hey, neither one is perfect. The important thing is to vote and allow everyone else to do so as well. This IS the USA, and we all have the right to voice our opinion, cast our vote, and have it be counted. I just wish we could do it in a more civilized manner.

Cmon, we're not in 6th grade anymore. However, if you har old enough to vote and ARE still in 6th grade, well...now I'm REALLY frightened for our country!

Don't be racist! If you are racist move to some other place . Racist people and their remarks have no place in the United States. Any racist comments or negative to either party need to be taken down by a moderator.

This election is NOT about race. this eletion is about people, country and freedom. black, white, purple. I dont care who you are, if you can run the country better than Bush did you have my vote. I'd like to think we are way past "segragation" and have moved on to bigger and better things. I DO NOT WANT MY CHILDREN TO KNOW PEOPLE LIKE you traczimm. You are very narrow minded

traczimm458, you have GOT to be the most ignorant individual I've ever seen leave a comment. I know you must be out of school today, so use your time wisely, and do some perusing in the dictionary...then, scurry on over to the library and look up the national statistics for government assistance. You will find that knowledge is bliss.

McCain has never said he wanted things to stay the same - and if OBAMA wins we better all pray to our GOD not OBAMA"S that he has someone better than his VP backing him up. As for Palin I bet she has more knowledge and experience than many of the men who have been in her position in the past. She is definately a better communicator and because she is a woman that is too much for many men and even some women to handle. I mean seriously if you compare her to Biden- Obama wishes he had someone with that much personality and experience. Get over the fact that she is female and except that she can do the job as well as any man. Sexisim is just the same as racism!

You are an IMBECILE, just like Sara Palin.

    • Posted By: katyblue @ 11/04/2008 10:49:39 AM

Palin got punk'd by Radio station jocks. DUH? Not the brightest bulb in the box.

  • Posted By: mikecrt @ 11/04/2008 9:22:38 AM

Palin is an excellent choice for lowered expectations. Possibly even dumber than Bush, though that does seem like a stretch. Oh! Look! I just saw a fire truck go by, I must be an expert in fire sciences. I need to go and help them with my expertise.

    • Posted By: Dissedvoter @ 11/04/2008 9:26:54 AM

Palin is simply a rare conservative who has been grilled by the libs. Everyone talks of her lack of experience but no one talks about Obamas. This country has elected governors 28 of the last 32 years. Now all of a sudden they are inexperienced. What about Clinton. Gov of Arkansas, a state with a smaller budget than say a large Wal MArt. Where was the cry of inexperience with him? ,

      • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 11/04/2008 9:48:14 AM

You must have a short memory - many, many people took B. Clinton to task for his lack of experience, and many people took Bush the Younger to task because his experience included failing at the majority of endeavors he had attempted.

I used to believe that having previous exectutive branch experience was a plus, but perhaps that is not the case after all. The fact that we have had governors elected 28 of the last 32 years tells me that governors haven't done a particularly good job - look at the mess we're in.

Maybe having a senator in office is the way to go - if nothing else, they understand how to compromise and how the legislative branch really works - or doesn't work, as the case may be.

Either way, it strikes me that Palin being governor of a small state like Alaska hasn't broadened her horizons much in fact, it has isolated her and kept her unsophisticated, while Obama being senator of a more populous state like Illinois has both broadened his outlook and toughened his hide.

I prefer broad and tough over isolated and unsophisticated any day.

ah, the president is one guy, CONGRESS passes and writes the laws, our congress has been more to blame over the last several years than our presidents, they are still there!!! We need term limits to yank those people OUT OF CONGRESS and not allow for the special interests to get their claws into people's (congresses) back pockets!

traczimm458 - your comments can NOT be more barbaric. 1st of all there are more white people on welfare than black. Look it up. 2nd, Obama has a white mother just like you do. his African father was barely a part of his life so what loyalty to Africa can this man possibly have? Your ignoramous comments prove what the bible says about there always being poor people among us. Poor is a state of mind in this context since I'm sure you are not intellectually competent enough to get that either. EVERYONE PLEASE VOTE YOUR CONSCIENCE!!!

It's ashame that this world is still filled with so many racist people. Come on. What does the color of anyones skin have to do with this country??? We all live in this world together and we all want the best for it! We're all created by the same GOD!! My God bless traczimm because apparently he/she has no idea as to what this presidental race is about. Regardless of who wins, the only person who can help this world is GOD! So I hope God is with McCain or Obama in directing both in what's best for this country.

  • Posted By: empress235 @ 11/04/2008 10:52:01 AM

Don't post racist comments. Wake up, and stop being narrow minded. Condeleza Ricem, Colin Powell, do people forget how much power they had in the White House?????????? Hello???

I'm black, white and native american and proud of it!
