TO THE UNDECIDED VOTER AND ALL OBAMA SUPPORTERS:

I would simply ask you to read three short NY Times Articles. I believe even Obama supporters will accept the NY Times as at least a "neutral" source. Please provide your best rebuttal to these - I am sure we would all be interested.

Read this article from September 30, 1999: (predicting current mortgage crisis - 1 year before Bush was elected.)

    http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0DE7DB153EF933A0575AC0A96F958260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=1

    2nd Article from September 11, 2003:

    http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E06E3D6123BF932A2575AC0A9659C8B63

    3rd Article from April 19, 2008:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/19/business/19fannie.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

The media has done their job quite well covering for the Obama campaign - and quite frankly McCain spent too much time trying to be a "statesman" on this issue instead of simply giving the country the straight talk - and the straight talk is that well intentioned but very poorly executed Democratic social engineering plans - implemented by Bill Clinton and Franklin Raines, and protected from scrutiny until it was too late by Barney Frank caused our current financial crisis - the impact of which dwarfs any "mistakes" made during the last 8 years. I think what people seem to forget is that not every bad decision has an immediate effect. Sometimes you can light a fuse on a problem - like the mortgage crisis, and it takes years - say until something like the next economic downturn - or a spike in gasoline prices - to cause the explosion. That is exactly what has happened with the lowered credit standards mortgage programs put in place during the 1990's, and pushed far into this decade by Clinton appointee Franklin Raines.

In their zeal to help marginal credit borrowers get home loans, the Democrats pushed programs that ended up endangering our entire economy. Everyone who has seen their 401-k take a beating, or who is worried about their home value because of multiple marginal credit loans being foreclosed around them needs to learn the truth and vote accordingly. Electing Obama will put many of the very same people into position to make these same bad policy decisions all over again.

this article is yet another example of the media love fest with Obama it makes me want to vomit. Although the polls are telling us change is around the corner, change is about all we'll have left in our bank accounts...assume the position folks because we might not walk away from this one.

    • Posted By: basedrum777 @ 11/03/2008 8:12:12 PM

I'm a Tax Accountant CPA for the largest accounting firm in the world. I make less than 200k with my wife and can tell you based on their proposals I will do better in taxes undrer B.O. If I made more than $250k I would do better under J.M. If that is what you're voting on, understand this. Many neutral tax organizations have indicated this.

      • Posted By: wcmartin @ 11/03/2008 8:21:53 PM

But your assessment and those of "neutral" tax centers does not consider several factors:

        1) The adverse impact on the poor and middle class of reduced jobs, as Obama want to tax the heck out of job creators.

        2) Increase cost of gasoline and heating oil as a result of Obama's windfall profits and carbon taxes.

        3) Increased consumer and food costs from higher corporate costs and higher corporate taxes. Corporation pass their costs and taxes along to the consumer in the form of consumer prices.

        4) Increased electric bills from Obama's carbon taxes.

        5) The trickle down effect of Obama's increased capital gains taxes.

Finally, the assessment actually assumes Obama fulfills his campaign promise. Clinton did not fulfill his tax cut promise. I would suggest that there is no money for such a cut and Obama has no record of cutting taxes.

        • Posted By: hmoo11 @ 11/04/2008 1:25:42 AM

So , we have a CPA then we have a view issued by McCain. I'm with the CPA.

reifoss, I am in line with you, brother, vomiting from the stinking media drooling over Obama! I am still hopeful that we will see McCain come out on top when the dust settles, and I would like nothing better than to hear the media's response then. All of the poll counters can then be immediately fired! By the way, at least the Obama dregs will enjoy "assuming the position", since they can't help their twisted liberal tendencies!

      • Posted By: basedrum777 @ 11/03/2008 8:22:24 PM

Way to add some class to the discussion Viking1055. Hopefully you live in Mississippi so your vote won't affect anything.

        • Posted By: viking1055 @ 11/03/2008 8:56:02 PM

Speaking of class, I guess I could never match up to you, being that you "work for the LARGEST accounting firm in the world". I just happen to work for the LARGEST fraternal insurance company in the world so I guess we're even. I guess you, in all of your wisdom, already figured out that every American who makes under $250k will do better tax-wise under Obama. I never realized that their tax plans were really that simple. I guess if they had made that knowledge known sooner, it would really be a LANDSLIDE victory for B.O. tomorrow, considering the low % of American households with a $250K+ annual income. Maybe I will switch over to the other side, so that when B.O. wins, I will see if he'll let me come to your door and have you give me part of your wealth to give to the others who are less fortunate than you. Let's see how quickly you give up your money!!!

I'm not sure where this "person" is coming from. From what I have read, s/he seems very bitter and opposed to fresh air and change. S/he really has not had much of anything to add to the board that would pont to intelligence. Just nasty comebacks very similar to the McCain/Palin campaign.

  • Posted By: Nowforsomemoretruth @ 11/03/2008 10:54:55 PM

The problem with Obama is a simple one. One association does not a radical make. But in Obama's case, the list of left-wing radical mentors and associates is seemingly endless, (Davis, Ayers, Wright, Khalidi , etc., etc.) with a new revelation practically every day. With that trend, a picture begins to emerge, and that picture is that Obama is as steeped, not in just left-wing political thought, but in radical left-wing economic and race ideology, to the same extent that Pat Robertson was steeped in the ideology of the radical Religious Right. I would not have voted for Pat Robertson for dog catcher, and for similar reasons, I will not vote for Obama.

Oliver North brought tons of drugs into America and served no time. A young black man caught with less than an onuce of drugs gets sent to prison for years. If you. If you have not seen evidence of this radical Obama then you should stop repeating it. Ayers and young people like him in the late sixties worked to stop the senseless killing of American kids. 58,000 American soldiers were killed in Vietnam. What has happened after the war ended. What is our relatioship with Vietnam now? Pretty damn good. It is a shame that very smart young people had to resort to marches and acts of violence to get out government to end that war. Get the hell off the Ayers crap. I had a friend killed in that war and John McCain should be ashamed for his attacks on Ayers and Obama. I remember the reality of the war and itwas not pretty for any side. All McCain has is Kill, Kill Kill and lie, Lie, Lie.

When President Obajma turns out to be a moderate, what excuse will you provide for all the BS. How will you explain why the Islamic terrorist Communist socialist Anti Christ has left the country stronger after his first term than when he took office. Oh, I know, your prayers preserved the country so America would have time to repent and elect Palin.

      • Posted By: Nins @ 11/04/2008 12:18:19 AM

Of course Obama is a moderate. Anyone who actually listens to what he says can see that (as opposed to listening to what pundits say he meant by what he said). Obama's book Audacity of Hope is filled with examples of the fairness, clarity and balanced judgments that he makes.

To all of the conservatives out there who think that Obama is a flaming liberal, I would like to remind you of what he did when he was elected President of the Harvard Law Review. The Law Review President gets to name ten individuals to write articles for the Review, and these ten people get to control the content of the publication. All of the minorities and the liberals thought they finally had it made, that Obama would appoint ten left wing editors. Instead, Obama appointed three conservatives, three liberals and four moderates. That year the Law Review was critically acclaimed as the best run and best written Harvard publication in decades.

So when he wins in November, conservatives don't have to freak out. Obama is a centrist and will appoint a balanced cabinet full of active people who will really get things done. Kind of like the way our multi-cultural society is supposed to be. And exactly what we need in this time of economic crisis.

    • Posted By: revbgary @ 11/03/2008 11:54:09 PM

When President Obama proves to be a moderate, what will you say then? That your prayers preserved the country for President Palin in 2012.

  • Posted By: Nugent @ 11/04/2008 1:04:49 AM

If we love our country, the clear choice is Sen Obama. Sen McCain would continue the failed economic policy of President Bush - Cutting taxes and redistribute income to millionaires and largest corps with his trickle-down policy. The warning signs are there. McCain is ignorant about economics, believes in no regulations for financial firms (McCain was one of the Keating five senators tainted in the 1985 S&L crisis, and helped Sen Phil Gramm in recent years to deregulate financial firms that causes current financial crisis), flip-flops in tax cut, lacks sound judgement, lacks sound economic policy. Palin abused power, helped Ted Stevens in getting pork for Alaska, censored library books, hired unqualified friends and relatives, inexperience, played dirty politics (called herself: Pitbull with lipstick.) Sen Obama will provide changes for a better America.

  • Posted By: aunntiemame @ 11/03/2008 9:36:46 PM

I truly believe that Obama will win tomorrow, by a landslide, and that he will be a good,if not great, President. After suffering for the last eight years of lawlessness and ignorance, we deserve a leader who is smart/brilliant, who will restore dignity and respect here and abroad, and that is Barack. John McCain is a doddering old fool and would be more of the same old tiresome drivel offered by the GOP. Landside you say? How about a reverse effect of The Bradley effect? I believe many people will express their votes for McCain publicly, but will cast their vote for Obama, I have an acquaintance who is a rabid hate-mongering evangelical who believes every negative statement about Obama, true or not. She sends me the worst trash I have ever read --- never in support of McCain, but always vile pronouncements about Obama and the Democrats. I have asked her not to forward these tidbits of hatred to me. I told her to get the word out to her crazy buddies so they'll be packed and ready to move to another country after tomorrow...

Obama has 63 Nobel Laureates working on his policy team. They are developing a plan to push America back to the top. Who is responsible for McCain's planning? Americans would be shocked to find that Douglas Holtz-Eakin is the sole person responsible for planning McCain's policy for America's future. Holtz-Eakin is also McCain's economic advisor, filling two full time positions on McCain's team. How can one single man (an economist) be responsible for developing a viable technology plan for our future?

Obama has an enormous pool of the most intelligent, talented men and women in America working for him. Soon, they will be working for us: for you and for me and for America.

And let's not forget that the McCain campaign spent more on Palin's makeup artist than it did on it's foreign policy advisor. When you pay your makeup artist DOUBLE what you pay your foreign policy advisor, it is time to start examining your priorities.

You look just fine without makeup, John. And Sarah is young enough not to need any. So cut the crap, and start paying some good ECONOMIC ADVISORS so you can have a fiscal plan to present to America. We're in the middle of a huge global financial meltdown, and you are worried about hair and makeup? PLEASE start worrying about the middle class, John. Please.

At what point in this campaign did you hear Obama say there will no longer be singing of the National Anthem? By all means, vote for McCain if your heart and mind tell you that, but don't base that vote on nonsense like that. All that aside, good for you to volunteer at your polling place.

    • Posted By: wcmartin @ 11/03/2008 7:52:27 PM

The Democrats are full of empty promises....look no further than the middle class tax cuts Clinton promised.

However, the one thing about this election coverage that continues to dismay me is that Black people are voting for Obama because he is black. This is simply not the case. They are voting for him because he is a democrat. Now, more of them may be driven to the polls by his race, but blacks have always supported Democratic candidates. Which brings us back to the empty promises of Democrats...what has the Democratic party done to improve the lives of African Americans?

An opportunity for higher education. An opportunity to make something of themselves. Just as we have done for any poverty-stricken family, white, black, mexican or whatever. Many of these disadvantaged people do take advantage of these programs and pay taxes just as many of us do. Many turn out to suck the system dry or turn to crime ... they are not necessarily any specific color or nationality.
It all boils down to ones own life choices they choose to make. We can help but we will not know the result until it's done.
Many people have taken advantage of these programs and have truly benefited. Rather than looking at a glass 1/2 empty ... take a look at the 1/2 full side. They do re-pay and help re-pay what was given to them.

          • Posted By: wcmartin @ 11/03/2008 10:12:26 PM

Sure...the Democrats have rewarded the African American community well...I just don't see where 40+ years of voting democrat have served the African American community well:

            * Average African American household earns $15,000 less than the average white household
            * Better than 3 times more African Americans live in poverty
            * Less than 10% of African Americans have a college degree and in comparison to whites, 20% less have a high school diploma
            * Almost 50% of African Americans children live in a household that does not include their father
            * 16.2% is the chance that an African American will end up in prison during their lifetime; almost 8 times higher than whites
            * 28% of black males will be incarcerated during their life time.
            * 43% of Americans afflicted with AIDS are black.
            *

In the exchange with "Joe the plumber" Obama unintentionally revealed that he really is as radical as his early political mentors and acquaintances, Davis, Ayers, Wright, Khalidi etc., (gee, there sure seem to be a lot of them) and that he is into the failed economic policy of wealth redistribution. Now there is absolute proof. In 2001, Obama, the "community organizer" turned legislator, said in an interview:

"And I think one of the tragedies of the civil rights movement was that the civil rights movement became so court-focused, I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and organizing activities on the ground that are able to bring about the coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change, and in some ways we still suffer from that,"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iivL4c_3pck

    2001 Chicago Public Radio Interview.

Obama's tax and spending plans alone would be bad enough, but add Reid and Pelosi to the mix, with the three of them controlling both houses of Congress and the executive branch without any effective restraint, and you have something that should causes concern even among moderate Democrats.
See Wall Street Journal: A Liberal Supermajority:

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122420205889842989.html

Indeed, some democrats are publically saying as much. See Barney Franks comments on the news, including face the nation last week, stating essentially that Democrats in Congress intend to greatly raise taxes and go on a spending spree.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1Mazjm_A5k

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJGnSAlqjoU

    See http://www.taxfoundation.org/blog/show/23617.html

Obama's ill-conceived programs will require him to tax, and his health care plan alone is a substantial hidden tax on all business, large an small. In reality, it does not really matter who he taxes, those taxes are going to be passed through the economy. He has to tax, because it is they only way he can pay for his massive social engineering experiments. Any first year economics student knows that taxation is a tool used to contract an economy experiencing inflation, because it reduces demand by reducing the amount of money individuals and businesses have to spend. It is contractionary, which is exactly what you do not want to do when the problem is that the economy is contracting already into recession. Like Hoover and FDR, Obama's plans will only make it worse for longer.

???Nowforsomethingotherthanthetruth??? exemplifies the measures employed by the McCain campaign starting with the anonymous smear emails that began when McC hired the Bush propaganda machine.

This deception campaign tries to benefit from party loyalties. It preys upon hate, prejudice and fear, and on the ???unanswered questions??? fabricated by the anonymous emails this campaign perpetrated. Links to debunks of many of those fabrications are in an earlier posting.

This is by far the greatest extreme ever in American politics. It is a fundamental threat to our political process. It would further entrench the Bush operatives who took over the McC campaign, and the republican lobbyists who represent only the megarich who looted our economy.

McC was a maverick. He promised to root out the lobbyists he said are what???s wrong with Washington. He said he would not take the low road employed by the Bush machine when it smeared him. He sold out when he got behind and subscribed to the ideology that the end justifies the means.

McC would continue the Bush tax give away to the rich that McC previously opposed and called ???irresponsible??? because ???it only benefits the rich.???

McC now wants to give more billions in tax give aways to oil companies that have just reported the largest profits in history for two consecutive quarters, while he claims that lowering taxes for everyone under $250k in after-deduction income will somehow keep businessmen from starting businesses.

???Nowfor??? has employed many of the themes in the anonymous viral emails. He recently said it was ???revealed that Obama has PLO buddies??? referring to Rashid Khalidi to whom McC donated $440k:

    http://richmonddemocrat.blogspot.com/2008/10/mccain-funded-rashid-khalidi.html Guilt by association.

"Nowfor" continues repasting that the cause of our problem is a law decades old that encourages loans to qualified low income people.

Alan Greenspan said the cause is that an entire financial system was built outside of regulation; "we trusted" these self-interested looters ???to regulate themselves???. Credit Default Swaps resulted. They increased from $106 trillion in '02 to $531 trillion under R stewardship.

The legitimate news has reported that Fannie and Freddie paid many millions to McC's campaign manager, Rick Davis, who received up to $35K/mo. from Fannie and Freddie from 2000 to while he has been McC's campaign manager.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/22/us/politics/22mccain.html and http://www.newsweek.com/id/164732/page/1

Trillions were looted from our economy because the Rs allowed it. The Rs, including McC's campaign manager, are in the pockets of big money.

Without solutions, it is necessary to campaign with deception, misdirection, fear, smears, hypocrisy.

Attempts to hijack our political process with deceit and abuse of the trust of party loyalties are reasons I'm voting for Obama after 40 years of never voted for a Dem.

    To Mr. Viking.
ummmm ... if you don't like what you are seeing ... rather than screaming for the dems to move ... why don't you? Accept what this democratic society is voting for now ... change. Change from a miserable 8 years of RULE and dictatorship from the republican party. Buckle up. It's going to be a great 4 years and with any help from our creator ... maybe even more. We need to get past the "6" mentality. 6 shooters, 6 packers and even Joe the plumber are no more. I might suggest that Joe take long hard look at why we are where we are right now. Bush and the Republicans have had their chance. Let's see what happens with a fresh, new attitude.

Hey, ru4eel, I don't need to leave this country! I think you've been reading way too many articles to say the things you do. The past 8 years have been a "dictatorship"??? We are about to fall under a dictatorship so wake up! You forget the endless freedoms that you have had the past 8 years. Just because the past 1 year has been bad for our economy means nothing against Mr Bush or Republicans for that matter!!! The Dems took control of the House with Nancy Pelosi (what a sickening excuse for a human being) and SINCE THEN, our country has been in a downward spiral! You and every other Obama grunt wants change??? What the hell does this mean??? What is this so-called "change"??? You don't even know what it is, but yet you like the sounds of it. It goes to show the ignorance of the typical Obama supporter. You all want this "change" because you're unhappy with the current life you have. You might as well have a kid in a candy store, who should be at the highest level of "happy", but yet complains of wanting more or something that isn't there. Spoiled people are never happy either. Maybe it really means that we've all had it so well, under Mr Bush, but as always, we end up spoiled and unhappy in the end, so we want "change". Go on living in your dream world of the great things your Obama, your Messiah, will bring you. But it WILL be too late to "change" it once you actually wake up and realize how WRONG you really were!!!

get over yourself. you no nothing of me and my state of happiness or well-being. You are so very judgemental and selfish you will never wake up. I do not look at Obama as a "messiah" nor do I appreciate you telling any Obama supporter to leave the country.
It is just as much my country as it is yours, our views are just different. Learn to deal with it.

Why don't you give up on your useless comebacks? It sounds like you are the one "judging" me and I'm already tired of it! I'm not going to sit here and write comebacks to you all night. You are already convinced in your ways as I am, so what are you trying to accomplish??? And if you "don't appreciate me telling Obama supporters to leave the country", exactly what are you going to do about it? This is STILL a free country and I can say anything that I damn well please. And by the way, I happen to be very HAPPY, which you seem to find so difficult to believe. I don't need to know anything about your happiness, nor do I care, but I only know that you are lacking, thus your vote is going for B.O. You people just find it easy to call me "judgmental" or "angry" or a "bigot", when all I said was that B.O. is a liberal, socialist, anti-Christian, homosexual supporting, baby-killing, anti-gun ownership, anti-off-shore-oil drilling, excuse for a candidate, and THESE ARE THE FACTS, not my opinion!!! So you get over yourself! And stop calling me any more ridiculous names that you can think of. They are truly a waste of time!

People like viking are who I talk about when I refer to "sponge-brained". He just spouts out whatever putrid political litany that he's been served up from his "balanced" news sources. Facts??? Get a life. Who's lacking??? Obviously you. I've never seen so much hateful garbage come from one person. How did god pack so much anger and hate into one person... ???

What specific policy or initiative of Bush led to the current economic situation?

Why do you choose to ignore the actions of the Democrats that led to the current financial crisis?

      1) Janet Reno, during the Clinton administration, threatened to prosecute mortgage companies that did not make enough risky loans to risky, low-income borrowers.

      2) In 2003, the Republican Congress introduced increased regulations for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The Democrats shot down the regulations, with Barnie Frank taking to the House floor saying such increased regulations were unnecessary and would hurt low income borrowers.

      3) In 2005, the Republicans again sought to increase regulations on Fannie and Freddie, with John McCain co-sponsoring the legislation in the Senate. Senate Democrats blocked the regulatios in committee and never let them come to the Senate floor for debate.

      4) Fannie and Freddie, and their role in the real estate market, are largely the cause of the current economic problems. These companies have been run by Democratic operatives for years. Fannie Mae CEO Franklin Raines (former Clinton Budget Director) had to pay $25 million in fines for his corrupt behavior, yet Obama has admittedly sought his advice during this campaign. Jim Johnson, also a Fannie Mae CEO who helped drive the company into the ground, was Walter Mondale's campaign manager, and was an advisor to both Kerry and Obama on their VP selection.

No one said they had to give low-income individuals ARM's with reset values that would be untenable even if the people in the homes made a reasonable salary. They could have loaned them $ on fixed rate %'s and not planned on raping them due to their ignorance of the mortgage setup from banks. Instead through a combination of ignorance on the part of the consumer and greed on the part of the bankers we ended up here. I will repeat that the legislation passed by Clinton regarding this was through a REPBULICAN congress.

Those products are the only way to get low income borrowers approved through the "standards" that were set up for borrowers. Most of the variable rate products were though "2nd mortgages" designed to make up for the lack of a sufficient down payment. So, borrowers had a choice, pay PMI because they did not have the 20% down payment or pursue a variable rate product to finance what would normally would have been a down payment. The banks are not without fault, but the banks are not republicans, George Bush or any other governmental figure. They are private enterprises. However long and confusing mortgage paperwork can be, I know that when I had a variable home equity line of credit, I was very cognizant that the interest rate could go up as high as 11%. This fact was crystal clear and has been crystal clear in the 3 or 4 variable rate products I have been a part of.

I see reason has been replaced by pure madness tonight. I must have been mistaken because I thought the creepies came out on Halloween night.

    - Facts, have been replaced by prejudice and lies.
    - Witty comments have been replaced by all out verbal assaults.
    - Childishness and ignorance prevail.

Let's be honest here, this is a forum for comments; all of a sudden every other person here is either an economist, or economic psychic. I'd wager a strong bet that most of what is in this room is more mindless and repetitious sponge-brained political litany, rather than any reasonable output which has been thoughtfully garnered. I don't think that 9 out of 10 people here could define liberal or conservative in the political-economical reference.

No matter who is elected tomorrow, the economy isn't going to revive itself as if there is no financial crisis. Let's get real here, no one candidate is going to cause the economy to implode on itself... I am humorously reminded of the story of Chicken Little when I think of these folks... mindless followers.

By far some of the most repetitious and mind-numbing putrid garbage is coming from: REIFOSS, LUCKYLARRY, VIKING1055, and WCMARTIN. I'd be willing to bet more that none of these people have a clear and competent understanding of the complex minutiae that make up the macrocosm of the American economy. Luckily after this election, we will not have to hear from these folks for another four years. If any of them were as intelligent as they seem to think they are, we'd be voting for one of them tomorrow. Let's all pray that these people recess into some far dark corner of the internet.

Vote with your heads, or vote with your hearts. Just remember to VOTE!
