Since when do politicians NOT legislate morality? All of our laws govern morality so that we don't hurt each other--laws agains murder, theft, violence, rape, etc. Pro-lifers just believe that even the unborn are citizens who deserve protection. Why is that such a bad thing?

I am pro-life, but that's not why I voted Republican. For me, the most important issue is how our government is going to spend our taxes.

ajkj, abortion is not the first and won't be the last way that people disobey and ignore what God has required of us. And to say that this is the crack in the foundation of our nation is quite frankly ignorant considering that our nation was built from the blood, sweat, tears, rape, exploitation and deaths of an enslaved race. But even if we don't take it to that extreme, abortion will happen whether it's legal or not and to give a woman the option to choose what happens to HER body will prevent the back alley disasters that are inevitable by your standard.

Abortion is not the reason why our country is going down the Toilet...THE PRESIDENT THESE WACKO ELECTED IS.

  • Posted By: Clarity Row @ 11/04/2008 8:40:16 AM

It's astonishing that criteria for voting for a president is based in large part for many people on a candidate's stance on abortion. This is embarassingly simple minded. The "hotbed" issue has nothing to do with the office of president and the skills, expertise, and knowledge necessary for governing a country. Too many Americans think only of their precious opinions when voting instead of considering the more crucial elements and having a global consciousness, because governing the country includes thinking of the country's place in the world and its relation to other nations. I'm against abortion but that is a personal viewpoint. It is crucial to uphold the founding principles of this country. For those who forget, and it's obvious that all too many do, the separation of church and state is one of those founding principles. Religion should not infect the state and the state should not infect our religion. I count all those who wish to intermingle the two as nothing less than anti-American. The so-called patriots and those who profess to being patriots the loudest could not be more blatantly unpatriotic. It's time the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence be read in the streets and on television and over the radio once a month.

The seperation of church & state was to eliminate a country sanctioned church/religion (i.e., The Church of England) & to give us the freedom to worship in any church under any denomination, but least you forget it was to worship "under God", not to leave God out of the picture. Our forefathers wanted us to be faithful to God & to protect what God gave us, which is life. Abortion is the crack in the foundation of our nation & will corrupt all other aspects of our lives. Get the facts straight & figure out what it means to be an American and a human being!

...........................It is time to get Religion out of Politics and Politics out of Religion............Religion needs go stand aside and get out of promotion of political issues either on the positive side or negative side............I hope 2008 is the last year that Religious Meddling and Religious Propaganda influences our State and National Elections!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The list of reasons why a person can value life and still vote for a pro-choice candidate is just a list of excuses. The rationale is faulty in these excuses, and they do not justify the choice voters are making when they vote for such a pro-choice candidate. Our nation already places great value on protecting and preserving the lives of born children. That is a given. Those of us who see the same value in children who have yet to be born need to stand up for them! They cannot yet speak for themselves.

I have not had an abortion, but I provide support services for many women who have had abortions. I have personally met with dozens of women who were devastated by their choice to abort. Even women who say they are not suffering emotionally after an abortion have stated that they never want to have another abortion. Abortion hurts women. Abortion hurts families.

As a black woman in her late 20s, I considered voting for Obama. In the end, I could not in good conscience vote for someone who does not value the life of the unborn child.

What about the immigration issue? Oh but no one will even think of going there.

  • Posted By: BrokeTaxpayer @ 11/04/2008 8:45:25 AM

    Where was the immigration issue?

  • Posted By: ER78 @ 11/04/2008 8:43:05 AM

It was not an issue because it is not an issue. I don???t believe in abortion but I don???t have the right to tell someone they can???t have one. It is not my job to judge them it is Gods. That???s what most people in my generation believe. Most women who have it done never forgive themselves they don???t need anyone else beating them up over it.
Besides it really is stupid to fight over something that (if you know anything about civics) will not be over turned. I figure it is a give take relationship. The I have to put up with abortion and liberals have to put up with my right to bear arms.

    .
FOR VOTERS THAT 'TWICE' PULLED THE LEVER FOR "W" AND ARE THINKING ABOUT GIVING McSAME A 3RD BUSH TERM, THEN THINK ABOUT THE FOLLOWING.

George W. Bush and his sidekick John McSame who supported 90% of Bush's policies have brought you over the past 8-years the following disasters:

1.) - two unending wars (Iraq & Afghanistan) and potential for 2 more (Pakistan & Iran),
    2.) - economic meltdown,
    3.) - skyrocketing unemployment,
    4.) - disastrous energy policies,
5.) - record breaking home foreclosures,
6.) - unaffordable or no health insurance coverage,
7.) - lost investments, pensions and retirement plans,
8.) - never ending national debt,
    9.) - out-of-reach affordable education
10.) - lost of international credibility
    11.) - divisions in government,
12.) - allow jobs to go overseas,
13.) - AWOL during America???s worst hurricane disaster (Katrina)
14.) - Forcing U.S. troops into multiple year-long tours in Iraq???s kill zone,
15.) - NOT supplying our troops in Baghdad the equipment they needed and at the time they needed it,
16.) - NOT supplying Iraqi veterans the VA benefits and mental help they deserve after serving honorably in battle.

Think people!! Intelligence dictates that you don't put McSame's same failed policies from the Bush years back into office for a third McBush term. Think people!! Vote intelligently. Vote Obama-Biden leadership.

GOD Bless the United States of America!
GOD Bless the Obama-Biden Leadership Team!

GEE, where would we be now if it weren't for the DEMS? #1 - We are at war now because Clinton did nothing #2 - Go ask Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Barney's boyfriend Herb Moses -- which leads us to 3,4,& 5; 7.

    • Posted By: benluclar @ 11/03/2008 7:09:00 PM

Perhaps many of these economic difficulties can be overcome by Obama when he redirects his grassroots followers through a social employment program to build himself a Taj Mahal, worthy of his ego and intention. The workers will be countless and the bust of himself will surely outlive the ages like the Pyramids, which I feel certain he at some time earlier, also ''proposed''.

      • Posted By: vacreeper @ 11/04/2008 5:02:48 AM

NOT ENTIRELY SURE THAT GOD HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH OBAMA-BIDEN TEAM. AND I'M DEFINITELY NOT WILLING TO ADD THE WORD "LEADERSHIP." I WAS AN ENGLISH MAJOR, AND I WAS ALWAYS TAUGHT THAT A CONTRADICTION IN TERMS WAS BAD FORM.

  • Posted By: ER78 @ 11/04/2008 8:36:47 AM

it wasnt an issue because it is no longer an issue. I dont belive in abortion but I dont have the right to tell someone else they cant have one. I figure that is for god to judge. most people in my generation feel that way.

"But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child - a direct killing of the innocent child - murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love, and we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts. Jesus gave even his life to love us. So the mother who is thinking of abortion, should be helped to love - that is, to give until it hurts her plans, or her free time, to respect the life of her child. The father of that child, whoever he is, must also give until it hurts. By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems. And by abortion, the father is told that he does not have to take any responsibility at all for the child he has brought into the world. That father is likely to put other women into the same trouble. So abortion just leads to more abortion. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion. "

And, how many minority babies have you adopted Keren, so that we have a safe cozy place for all these tormented souls you are sooo concerned about?

      • Posted By: Keren-tlio @ 11/04/2008 8:35:47 AM

My question to you is how many abortions have you had? i have had two. I have been forgiven as is anyone who asks for forgiveness.

As for adoption. Google "Project Gabriel" and learn about how the Catholic Prolife Committee helps in all aspects of life once a woman decides not to have an abortion. Then please also google Rachel's Vineyard, a Catholic prolife committee ministry that helps women who have had an abortian deal with the aftereffects of abortion. The forbidden grief.

Also Google :"silent no more" an ecumenical group of women dedicated to helping other women deal with their abortion side effects, some even 30-40 years laters

        Peace
        Keren

Thank you for those last 3 points. People forget that pro-choice DOES NOT mean pro-abortion. It simply means the right to choose. I love children, have my own and am a foster parent. I am a school teacher and I believe in the right to choose. Would I insist my teenage daughter have an abortion just because i'm labelled pro-choice? Absolutely not. It's about weighing out your options, making choices which will undoubtedly have a great effect short term and in the future...Women have been having abortions since society began. It is finally safe to do so. Let's focus on the war, where sons daughters sisters brothers mothers and fathers are dying everyday and leave the right to choose in the hands of the ones making the choices.

    • Posted By: dixie90000 @ 11/04/2008 7:05:05 AM

safe for who? certainly not the child in your womb. having unprotected sex WAS your choice. now stand up and be responsible for your actions. many americans looking to adopt here in america. I know several who have waited years to adopt any baby, including from drug abusing mothers.

      • Posted By: floridacadman @ 11/04/2008 7:06:41 AM

Same question dixie, how many minority babies have you adopted, or is the birth of all these kids someone elses problem?

        • Posted By: yanfu39 @ 11/04/2008 8:34:56 AM

The birth of these kids is not the problem. The problem is that the parents of these kids won't take responsibility for themselves, let alone their kids. Don't blame people who don't adopt for the inconsistent and immoral behavior - it truly isn't their problem because they didn't create it, but we all share this country so we have to fix it together. As dixie pointed out but you blindly didn't see, there are many people who want to adopt, but the adoption system is crazy. Am I pro life? Yes. But, I don't think abortion should be outlawed outright, at least not yet. First, the social system should be revamped to provide for easier and more cost effective adoptions, better sex education, and more access to birth control. At that point, we then outlaw abortion, because then there is NO EXCUSE that anyone can have for MURDERING an innocent life. Floridacadman, I understand where you are coming from, but PLEASE stop defending an in humane practice justified by the same logic the Nazis used to exterminate minorities and handicapped people. Let's get together and find a solutiion to the problem.

Focus on the war? My brother serves in the US Army and is glad to be protecting our country! Innocent babies have no choice... that's a sad indifference. Saying women have a right to choose... you're right. And we have a choice to not have random sex, which could result in worse consequences than a baby since STD's are on the rise. Why are we no longer accountable for our actions in this country? We can always find "a way out". Abortion is not the answer! I was a single mom and the dad walked away - but I realized that I made the choice to be in a relationship with a loser and had the baby. I struggled to finish college and raise her at the same time - but we did it. And the other day, she (at 7 yrs old) asked me what abortion is. I explained that our country allows women to terminate a pregnancy if she doesn't feel capable of raising the child. My little girl started to cry, wrapped her arms around me and said "Thanks for not having an abortion with me!" I think every baby is crying that out!!!

      • Posted By: floridacadman @ 11/04/2008 7:08:34 AM

Your brother isnt protecting our country, he protecting a group of people thatd cut his throat for a quater. Dont ever believe that we are in danger from a broken 3rd world country, thats rhetoric.

        • Posted By: cncrnd1979 @ 11/04/2008 7:13:10 AM

If Obama is president - it will come here. Well, they're already here, just haven't had the guts to rise up. But they will. Hope you're ready to fight on American soil. With Iran, Russia, Venezuela all teaming up in the nuclear weapons dept.... this will get interesting. If you remember Abedinijad (sp?) pronouncing war against the United States - I don't think he was joking. We didn't start this war - we're finishing it!

          • Posted By: floridacadman @ 11/04/2008 7:16:17 AM

While we are wasting our assets in a broken country, we ignore the real threats, Korea and Iran. They get pissed. and we are spread so thin, and have wasted so much money beating this dead horse, we will have real problems. We arent ready for any threat anymore because of wasting our time over there.

It seems to me that the issue of abortion has become the method by which the conservative right manipulates its supporters. If their opponent is prochoice and winning, the issue of abortion comes to the forefront. Maybe that is why "anti-abortion activists have accomplished very little, politically." Do they really want to lose their "ace" in the hole?

Mainegirl1 >> Comment: Abortion is a moral issue. It has no place in the courts or in the legislature.

Theft is a moral issue. Assault is a moral issue. Fraud is a moral issue. Rape is a moral issue. Murder is a moral issue.

If abortion is murder, it has a place in the courts and the legislature. That's really what the whole debate is about. There was a time when people in power in this country didn't consider black people, or native Americans, or other non-whites human, so abuse or killing of them was seldom prosecuted, even in the few places it was a crime at all. It took the legislature and the courts to change that.

  • Posted By: jupmod @ 11/04/2008 8:20:21 AM

The issue is never black-and-white as many Christians think it is. It's quite gray, especially regarding rare cases of rape, incest, and when the mother's life is in jeopardy. These exceptions should be made since not every woman have the mental strength to carry a child of her raper. If the mother's life is in jeopardy and the only way to save her is to abort the child, who has not been develope enough to survive outside the womb even with those life-support systems, would it be better to save the mother so she can try again to have a child than to let both the mother and child die? Those who consider themselves 'Pro-Life' really have to consider what that means to them in regard to the respect of life. IMO, anyone who bluntly do not think over the whole issue and still thinks abortion should be outlaw totally with no exceptions, really are not 'Pro-Life' at all.

All you liberals will have nobody to blame but yourselves when your son comes home one day and introduces you to his "partner" or your daughter kills herself becuase she is a drug addict looser that has had a dozen abortions by the time she is 19. A godless society is a worthless society that needs to be exterminated.
