I think sarah may show adaptable and just far enough away to gather the basics to be a serious contender, a true conservative will have the gop's ear.

Please run in 2012 Palin! That will guarantee an Obama 2nd term.

I Agree, I mentioned to a friend that we should all sign a really big THANK YOU card and send it to her LOL!

The media has missed their opportunity to report on the historical fact that TWO women campaigned for the two highest positions in the US. Senator Hillary Clinton and Govennor Sarah Palin placed themselves at the mercy of the American public and asked America to consider them for President and Vice President of the United States of America. To my disappointment, the entertainment media and news media chose to violate these wonderful role models' human rights and instead of placing a veil over their faces to humiliate, silence and intimidate, theychose the method of broadcasting their faces on tv and insulting them, humilitating them, and abusing them both mentally and emotionally for all to see. Our nation may have come a long way in electing a black MALE president, but we missed a great opportunity to "walk the walk" of displaying women's human rights to the world.

      UMMMM..........

Didn't Sarah Palin make the choice herself to go on Saturday Night Live and allow herself to be parodied?

As a woman, I refuse to cast either Hillary Clinton or Sarah Palin to be cast as victims to explain their loss in their campaigns. John McCain and Barack Obama were comically portrayed in numerous ways in the entertainment. John McCain's age was the source of many jokes as were Barack Obama's speaking style and facial features.

To blame their failure to succeed in this election on 'sexism' is to hold them to a different standard of accountability than you would give a man. That itself is 'sexist.'

Great reply, it really offended me when I heard the media discussing how that Biden had to be careful so as not to be perceived as bullying Palin. Please this was a political contest, if you are that sensetive then you should not run for office.

Equal rights are equal rights are equal rights which mean to me being held to the same standards as a man and expect equal treatment.

Is it no wonder that more and more women in the US are changing their gender? Female bashing and abuse is so dominate in the US, it is safer for a woman to be gay so that hate crimes are enforced. Hate crimes against women are not illegal. So therefore all you "brave" Sarah bashers can have at it and no one will stop you. Doesn't that make you feel powerful?

    • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 11/06/2008 2:38:51 PM

izme wrote: Is it no wonder that more and more women in the US are changing their gender?

Are you serious? So in your world this is why gay women made the decision to change their gender POLITICS! lol! Please please please find a clue and hold on to it as this statement is extremely stupid, insensitiveand offensive.

If your daughter is on the same intellectual level of Palin, then NO please do not encourage her to run for POTUS!

I WOULD RATHER HAVE A HOMOSEXUAL ILLEGAL MEXICAN WHO IS A CATHOLIC PRIEST THAT HARBORS IN CHINESE COMMUNIST THAT WEARS CHE SHIRTS THAT VOTE FOR PALIN.

She would need a personality transplant. I was put off by her from the very beginning because of her sneering, mean-spirited manner. Remember how they actually touted her role as "PTA President" when they first rolled her out? No thanks, I've had enough experience with that kind of PTA Mom.

I think we dodged a bullet with Palin. Unless she goes back to Alaska, builds a cybernetic transfusion machine, digs up Ronald Reagan's body and proceeds to clone his conservative intellect and style. Then, maybe...she might have a shot.

  • Posted By: trisha08 @ 11/05/2008 11:39:23 AM

Come on, how do you recover from being a laughing stock by being "punked" by Canadian comedians. The whole world was laughing at her (and us). She gave us a really good insight in how she would interact with Heads of State with her hokey phrases like "Give yer beautiful wife a big hug fer me". OMG. She is a national embarassment. That's why 60% of the US said NO to Palin in 2008. I don't see how that will change in 2012. Plus, There are way too many embarrasing moments captured on tape--her own interviews, Youtube, etc.

    • Posted By: esq1991 @ 11/05/2008 1:44:27 PM

Bill Clinton recovered after getting a BJ in the White House and using a cigar for an unintended purpose. And let's not forget Stuart Smally/Al Franken. Would anyone suspect that he could have been given serious consideration for federal office, yet he was a pretty good contender. The Founding Fathers wanted the average man - the farmer, the shopkeeper - to serve their country for a brief time then go back to their regular jobs. Why have we developed this mentality that someone has to be from an elitist intellectual from an Ivy League school to be able to do the job. Intelligence does not always equate to a person's capabilities. Look at Jimmy Carter - despite his education, he turned this country into a fiscal mess (do you remember double-digit mortgages?) and was horrible with foreign affairs (can't we all just get along?). I think she is a lot smarter than you give her credit for. You just don't like her because she does not resemble the typical liberal elitist you feel is suited for office.

      • Posted By: NeitherLeftNorRight @ 11/06/2008 1:05:18 PM

If Jimmy Carter is so terrible with foreign affairs, how on earth did he win that Nobel Peace Prize??

    Good afternoon all!!

Congrats to ALL Americans!! The best man, w/ the best policies, that 53% of Americans feel they'll benefit from, has won!!

The last 10 months has been, both, exciting and fun. It has gotten ugly at times, and I DO APOLOGIZE TO THOSE THAT I MAY HAVE OFFENDED. It seems that evolution hasn't caught up w/ that aspect of our animalistic nature, yet.

Although the election of Obama has been historic in EVERY sense of the word, it will not cure the divisiveness that exists in America. ONLY healthy dialogue between the parties, between cultures, between financial classes, and between our races will free us from the obvious disconnect we all have between each other.

    Again.........HEALTHY DIALOGUE!!!!

Now, time to gloat!!! I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!

    GOBAMA!!!

    • Posted By: esq1991 @ 11/05/2008 6:39:42 PM

Nobody knows what his policies are because whenever you ask what they are, they don't know. Didn't you hear the idiots in Harlem who were asked about policies and his choice of VP and they all loved them. Problem was, they were McCain policies and the VP was Sarah Palin. There were two types of people who voted for him: people who wanted change without thinking of or knowing about the kind of change they will get and those who think Obama is going to pay their way in life.

      • Posted By: Kboogie @ 11/05/2008 6:46:41 PM

Wow! You just put the entire 53% of Americans that voted for Obama in a box, b/c of the 3 or 4 idiots in Harlem.

        Classic!!!

        • Posted By: esq1991 @ 11/05/2008 7:11:00 PM

It's more than them. I don't think anyone I ever asked gave me a policy; they used the word "change." No one asked on TV ever could give one; they always use the word "change." I have read so much about this man and his website that I know more about what he wants to do and how his views than most people who voted for him. I will be honest. When he first spoke at the 2004 convention, I thought he was a democrat I could like. But then when I began to investigate his views and policies, I realized he was not. Like I told another poster, I would project that you are not going to be too happy with your choice in a couple of years when you realize the "bait & switch" he has pulled.

I found the whole platform repeate over and over again in a single Google search. Instead of closing your eyes and blindly following your "party", why don't you do yourself and the rest of our great nation a favor and do some research.

Interesting. I thought Obama's policies have been very clear. But, I'm the type of person who researches until my eyeballs pop out. Either way, understanding their clarity, I still voted for Obama, and I'm hoping others voted in kind.

His solutions to our nations problems may not have sat well w/ me 100%, but HE HAD SOLUTIONS. McC did not. I'm projecting that I'll be very happy w/ Obama's leadership. At least more than Bush's, and certainly more than McC's.

It was fabulous, I was surprised that he reached or rather SURPASSED 270 so fast. I was really expecting the count to be concluded either late last night or very early this morning.

It was just wonderful! YEA! Regarding Ms. Sara in 2012 Please her party is preparing to Shred her as several GOP members stated. Check out the post on Huff Post regarding behind the scenes, they have already started to blame her for McCain loosing. I would be really surprised if she wins a 2nd term as Governor.

      OOOOh Happy Daaaaaaaay!

9 times out of 10, abortion is not for the mother's helth or well being. It is a form of birth control, which is wrong. What about the child's health and well being? As a 21 year old who has been deemed infertile, I don't understand why someone who is 10 years older than me with a great job would want an abortion, because they don't think they are ready? Well you should have kept your legs closed. Have the kid and give it up for adoption and thank the heavens that you were given the opportunity to grow a life inside you. There are many of us who would love to experience that feeling.

I would love to see Sarah Palin in office in 2012. She would do great things for our country and she could restore our it to a DEMOCRACY instead of a socialist country that rewards laziness and stupid decisions, while punishing hard work and perserverance.

    • Posted By: dsqard @ 11/06/2008 12:50:16 PM

I hate to be crass, but just because you don't get to make a choice about a pregnancy, does not mean that you get to tell other women that neither do they. Have you ever spoken to a woman who decided to have an abortion? Do you have any idea how hard of a decision it is? I have never met a woman who said that her primary form of birth control was abortion. It is a personal choice and I feel that no one else has a right to tell a woman what she can or can not do with her body.

    • Posted By: Bass Pro @ 11/05/2008 5:14:46 PM

What have the Republican done about abortion? Not a damn thing. I'm anti-abortion and a Democrat. I argue that Democrats lessen the amount of abortions.

Let's take a look at what your party has done. The Republicans held the White House, had the Majority in both the Senate and Congress from 2001 to 2006. They also had the majority of the Supreme Court. Was there legislation proposed by either Bush or the Congress to outlaw abortion? No! Was there litigation filed with theCourt to overthrow Roe/Wade? No! Why? Simple, the last thing Republicans running for office need is to settle the abortion issue. They are afraid, rightly so, of losing the largest voting bloc they have if abortion ceases to be an issue.
They trot it out every election and get you to vote for them and then shelve it until the next election. if any of this is un true please enlighten me.

Now why are the Democrats better and how would there be less of a demand for abortions with them in charge? First the Democrats approve of using Birth Control devices and Pills and Condoms. Can we agree there would be less pregnacy and therefore less abortions using contaceptives and condoms?Secondly, they council teenages and try to provide help for them if they want it. That's what you would label pro-abortion.

TLet's review the Republican's policy. Don't have sex! That's it. this is not a policy, it's a charade.

This is the reason many who are anti-aborton like myself have moved on. we know abortions cannot be controlled by the Government.

I know it's hard, but for a Political party to use abortion like the Republicans do is dispicable. and is more pro-abortion. Would you agree that a policy that produces more pregnacy without a anti-abortion law in place produces more abortions?

      • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 11/05/2008 5:53:50 PM

Bass, the very last thing most Republicans in office want is to have Roe v. Wade repelled. Why? Because 80% of Americans support it. The day abortion is back on the ballot is the day conservative republicans lose every single election they run. Abortions actually decrease under Democratic presidencies because the social net is funded more thoroughly, in other words, the larger the social net, the less women feel inclined to get abortions. The opposite is true of conservative administrations.

No one should take my word on this, check the Census Bureau statistics.

        • Posted By: Bass Pro @ 11/05/2008 6:07:51 PM

I posted a little quick there. I agree if you're talking about national elections but not state elections. Abortion is still a burning issue in most of the southern and Midwest.ern states. The fact that Republicans use it with no intentions to do anything about and get away with it is terrible. When I see some of the commenters attack democrats as baby killers or godless, it annoys me.

          • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 11/06/2008 12:47:00 AM

      • Posted By: esq1991 @ 11/05/2008 7:02:51 PM

Bass Pro - Please don't take offense, but how old are you? the two reasons you gave "First, the Democrats approve .... Secondly, they council ....." These have been around for YEARS and still we have increasing rates of unwanted or unplanned pregnancies. Birth control has been available for at least the past 30 years. Planned Parenthood has been around. There really is no reason today for a woman to get pregnant if she chooses not to. The topic is discussed, there are commericals for the b.c. pill, condoms are on the shelves, there are clinics, sex ed, so don't tell me that the Dems will create less demand for abortions. There is just no reason today for someone NOT to know about birth control or where to go with questions. It seems that the rise in pregnancy has increased even though the availability of birth control has increased, too. Seems like there should have been an inverse relationship over the past 30 years, don't you think? Maybe then we need to consider there are some societal and moral issues that might be relevant. I don't advocate abstinence-only education, but maybe there needs to be some emphasis on that, too, and honest discussion about how it could affect your life as a teen and why it is better to wait . Why is it so wrong to tell kids this? Do we think our kids are not going to practice it? No, they may not but maybe with the right message they might. I think some kids feel pressured to have it because they are not "cool" if they don't. Why not start spreading a message that you have a choice and if you choose not to, that's OK, too. We expect our kids to have enough self-control to say no to drugs, alcohol, and fast-food, and try to ingrain this in them from when they are a toddler, but when it comes to sex they are just a bunch of uncontrollable horny animals? Let's give our kids a little bit of credit and respect here.

        • Posted By: Bass Pro @ 11/05/2008 7:23:20 PM

I'm not offended so i hope you won't be either. Kiss my butt. The point was that the republicans who run for office aren't sincere when they suggest to their supporters that they will change the abortion laws. If you want to argie details on abortion rates, enjoy. The fact that you trust your kids to make the right decisions might work for you. That's great. Just say no coined by Nancy R has worked well hasn't it. If you missed the first time around, kiss my butt.

Sweety -- a Democracy means people VOTE f o their leaders. That's what happened this time. You just didn't like the result.

You, see, what you really want is a fringe theocracy.

I would wish you luck, but that would be a lie.

      • Posted By: esq1991 @ 11/05/2008 7:07:23 PM

I don't like the result - you are right. But I will project that within a year or two you are not going to like the choice you made when you finally realize the bait & switch that was played on you.

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 11/05/2008 6:02:02 PM

"She would do great things for our country and she could restore our it to a DEMOCRACY instead of a socialist country that rewards laziness and stupid decisions, while punishing hard work and perserverance."

Really? Why did McCain and Palin support the Bail-Out Package? Why did McCain propose the government buy all the outstanding loans from private companies AT THE ORIGINAL COST? Isn't THAT socialism? That ain't free market, I'll tell you that much. As far as democracy -- did you see what happened yesterday? The people spoke. They spoke like they never had before.

And that's the problem with you fundies, you only believe in something when it works for you.

Alaska is quickly becoming a political joke. Ted Stephens with guilty verdict of 7 felonies, still gets elected. So if a convicted felon can't vote, how is this guy able to vote in the senate. Electing Ted Stephens is a disgrace to their state, and just shows just how partison they are up there. Sounds like Palin fits in Alaska. She can stay there. Alaska is a beautiful state. I've been there. Too bad it's inhabited by rednecks with no evironmental conscience. All they want is their oil checks.

    • Posted By: esq1991 @ 11/05/2008 1:53:01 PM

I wouldn't speak too ill of rednecks because there were a lot of them across this country that elected Obama. Wasn't Bill Clinton a redneck from a redneck state. Look at his mother with her clown makeup face; look at his brother. Look at Jimmy Carter's brother who had his own beer and peed on the sidewalk in public. Did any of them resemble what you seem to think is a person worthy of your attention? Frankly, I think the Palin family exemplifies more class than some of your famous liberals from the past.. As for their oil, what is wrong with them wanting to use their natural resources? The people in the state live there and know that nature can co-exist with the pipeline. Have you ever seen pictures from there showing how in places the pipeline is up high enough so as not to interfere with animal migration paths? There is a really good website about ANWR and why it will not harm the area to drill. And it's not propaganda from an oil company. What do you expect to use for fuel? It's a fact. We need fuel. Do you want to burn wood like your ancestors did? Oh, wait - can't do that because it would cut down the trees and too much smoke. Do you want to have nuclear? Oh, wait - can't do that either because it may not be safe. Do you want to burn coal? Oh, wait - can't do that due to emissions. Yes, wind and solar are great but they may not work in all areas of the country and we are nowhere near a point where we can get off oil. So until then, we have to use what we have.

      • Posted By: summer4077 @ 11/05/2008 3:34:06 PM

Really? Because all I saw from the voters was the clear implication that the civil war is still going on...Blue to the North, Red to the South (except Florida).

        • Posted By: esq1991 @ 11/05/2008 6:42:46 PM

Umm, according to the liberal elite and those in Hollywood, most of Indiana, Ohio, western Pennsylvania are hayseeds. Seems I always hear them making fun of the people in the Midwest, and remember Obama's statement about holding onto their guns and religion when he was in San Francisco? They elect Obama and suddenly they are enlightened intellectuals? How hypocritical.

          • Posted By: NeitherLeftNorRight @ 11/06/2008 12:45:04 PM

What makes you think you can generalize about anybody in any particular region? To say that everyone in Indiana is a hayseed or everyone in Ohio is a hick or everyone in western Pennsylvania is a redneck (which John Murtha is misconstrued as saying) is just as ridiculous as claiming that everyone in Alaska is backwater too.

          • Posted By: Kboogie @ 11/05/2008 6:51:38 PM

            Who said they were "enlightened"?

Their vote for Obama doesn't make them anymore intellectual than it made 53% of America. But, it did mean that they felt clear about Obama's plan for their particular life circumstances.

McCain had NO solution for this part of the country. Hence the results.

            • Posted By: esq1991 @ 11/05/2008 7:20:58 PM

Obama gave no clear plan of what he intended to do. All he ever said was "change" and other key terms to sell himself. It was actually a perfect marketing plan that you would do for any product.

              • Posted By: Kboogie @ 11/05/2008 10:18:50 PM

Again, his policies were crystal clear to me. And, he never deviated from his message. McC offered no solutions, other than "the Mac is back". (Just Terrible)

I know the race was long and tiring. But, if the only thing you remember from the debates, interviews, and the pundits breakdown of the candidates policies was "change" - then you may have been suffering from fatigue, and couldn't absorb any new info.

There was plenty of info out there to weed through. Sorry you didn't feel as informed.

            • Posted By: esq1991 @ 11/05/2008 7:19:01 PM

Didn't you read summer4077? She suggests that only those in the south where there are red states are rednecks while those in "blue" are not. And my comment is that before yesterday, those states were considered redneck. Therefore, it she no longer views them as "rednecks" since they voted for Obama, then she must consider them enlightened intellectuals. So I assume you think these people are rednecks?

You know there is bad air between her and her running mate, if there wasn't, I believe she and her family would have spent more time iwth the McCain family afterwards. Turnout : The Diversed Demographic an how obama brought them all Together.

    by DemFromCT

Wed Nov 05, 2008 at 05:13:54 PM PST

The kids really are alright. And not just the kids showed up.

First Read links to the voter-eligible population expert, Michael McDonald from George Mason University, who notes that the turnout percentage is awesome:

Provided the number stands, the turnout rate for yesterday's election was the highest in 100 years, according to the estimate from turnout guru Dr. Michael McDonald at George Mason University. Almost 137 million (136,631,825) went to the polls -- 64.1% of the voting-eligible population. 1960 saw 63.7% of the populace go out to vote; In 1908, 65.7% voted. It was, of course, the most people ever to go to the polls topping 2004's 122 million. That's 12% increase from 2004.

For those wondering why the current total vote in the presidential adds up to approximately 117 million, note that it's going to climb. There is still a ton of vote missing on the West coast.

However, it's not clear how big the total will be.

Curtis Gans, director of the nonpartisan Committee for the Study of the American Electorate at American University and dean of turnout experts, said his early numbers show 2008 to be about equal to or better than 1964, but not higher than 1960. He said it looks like total votes, once absentees are tallied (which could take a day or so), will be "somewhere between 134 and 135 million."

That's still the highest turnout in 40 years percentage wise (it was 60.1 of the voter-eligible population in 2004, and you have to go back to 1968 to get a figure that's at least 60%.)

From Prof. McDonald (more complete data here):

    1960 63.8
    1964 62.8
    1968 62.5
    1972 56.2
    1976 54.8
    1980 54.2
    1984 55.2
    1988 52.8
    1992 58.1
    1996 51.7
    2000 54.2
    2004 60.1

We commented this morning on the changing demographics ( less fewer whites.) In 2000, the exit polls put whites at 81%.

Maybe McCain's campaign would have worked better in 2000. Maybe what thwarted it was this:

There is a chance that American turnout will match or surpass the 1960 turnout, and if it does, that will mean approximately 136 million people voted. That raw number will be the most people who have ever voted in an American election.

    Welcome to the 21st Century.

Sarah Palin had better stay in Alaska...

She had better Produce that [Alaskan-Candian Gas Pipeline] that she Falsely Claimed was already under Contruction, when there has been no piece of Pipeline laid on that project and the Canadian Gas Company are not bound to building this Gas Pipeline and the Native Canadian indian are also Blocking this Agreement, based on it going through their land . .

Not to mention, there's a Big Oil Corporation who is currently Building a Gas & Oil Pipeline in Alaska, while Palin waits on Canadian Litigation, revolving around the Canadian Litigation and the Native Canadian indian Land Dispute, revolving around their land and this proposed agreement with Palin & Canadian Company.

Palin had better get that [Gas Pipeline Project] going before she ever thinks of going for Any Political Position, because if she does not bring this [Gas Pipeline Project] Fruition, her A!! will be Exposed even moreso as a Liar, Fraud and Fake, that she currently is.

Plain had better not [Pardon] Ted Stevens, because if she does...

Her Fragile & Sensitive Political Career will have the Stake Driven it's Red Heart, regarding National Politics, such as Congress Woman or Senator.

I have the Suspicion She will [Pardon Stevens] based on what he knows about her via the Various Earmark Millions and the Jack Abramoff, Stevens & Sarah and Todd Palin Connection.

Her career will then be OVER in Politics as far as running for President or Vice President.

Look for 1. PiYush [Bobby] Jindal, 2. Tim Pawlenty, 3. Charlie [Closeted-Down Low] Crist and 4. Mike [Arkansas Baptist] Huckabee as the Next [Bleeding Bloody Red Republicans] to take a shot at the White House !!!

Sarah Palin will Not, I Repeat...Will Not be a Factor in 2012

If she does Not [Pardon Stevens] maybe a run for a 2nd Term as Governor and Cheerleader for the Republican Party, thats it !!!

Her Political tactics work well up their in the yukon, but does not bode well in the [Lower 48]

Pretty good advice for Gov Palin but The bottom line is, a president is supposed to make decisions for a NATION, not just his/her cohort or chosen group. Give her credit for courage or audacity, whichever you prefer, for getting up to bat in this election but the bottom line is this is the 21st century and the old GOP standard of them against us is dead. We proved in this election that we are a nation of many groups and it's the message that matters. Her message is short sighted and exclusionary. To quote my republican significant other, "she's done".
