CONGRATS TO MY CANDIDATE MR OBAMA. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MUCH MORE HUMOR THE NEXT TIME WE ELECT A PRESIDENT. THE NEGATIVE ADS WERE SICKENING. IT WAS SO GRAND TO SEE THE CANDIDATES AT THAT DINNER PARTY MAKING FUN OF EACH OTHER AND THEMSELVES. FUNNY WINS EVERY TIME! KEEP THAT IN MIND ESPECIALLY YOU DARK LOVING YOU REPUBLICANS NEXT TIME!!

What went wrong for Senator McCain and the Republican Party? It doesn't take a whiz kid to figure this out. First, people realized how increadibly stupid they were to put W in the White House in the first place, not to mention the 2nd time. Anyone running as a Republican after that had an all uphill battle. Then there was the little matter of the economy blowing up. And. of course, the Dems accepted no responsibility for failure of oversight in that arena. Then there was the matter of the incredibly biased reporting. Even Ghandi would have had prescious little chance running as a Republican. Whether it was the Pied Piper or Senator Clinton, no Republican had a real chance against any Democrat, given the Bush legacy. And now we are stuck with someone who is equal to Bush the younger. I just hope we can muddle through the way the U.S. has so far.

lets see. the economy started going bad a couple years ago. congress controls the purse strings / the money. the dems control congress. dosnt that mean the dems are responsible for our financial crisis. just a thought.

On Inauguration Day I will be taking down my American Flag and replacing it with the United Socialist of America Flag, (Flag of the Soviet Union)!

Real American-1776, a little cool-aid will make you just fine. What should i get you-mango ,orange, apple, stawberry.Doggone, let'smix em up,or get what you like, and leave the flag alone-hypocrite.

To real American: Don't take down your flag on inauguration day, as that would make you an unreal American. We hung out with you guys during 8 years of Bush, I say give "Change a Chance" and be part of the solution and not the problem.

Thank Goodness - what a glorious, happy, encouraging, and hopeful time! I only hope the Lord watches over and protects Obama for his safety. Unlike the 2004 election where the electoral vote put Bush in office, the results of this election is the PEOPLE'S choice. A positive feel in attitudes and a true breath of fresh air. The fact that most of the world agrees with the PEOPLE'S choice of this election should tell us something - the MAJORITY of us know what that is.

    • Posted By: pbpace @ 11/05/2008 6:51:54 PM

Bush won the popular AND electoral vote in 2004.

  • Posted By: Ed the Electrician @ 11/05/2008 1:20:24 PM

I believe characterizing McCain???s campaign as the / or one of the worst ever is wrong. Loosing 52-54% to 46-48% in the popular vote is not a failure for McCain or the GOP. Considering that Obama outspent McCain 2 to 1, one could expect the popular vote to be in the same ratio. Factor in the media bias for Obama and against McCain and its actually impressive how well McCain did. (None of this should take anything away from Obama's campaign; I thought it was basically flawless) Some of us may have wished for a different outcome, but this election is not a landslide or clear indicator of the country???s desires, just Democracy in action, and as citizens we need to embrace the results. Now my hopes are that the (slim) majority is correct and Obama will keep his promises and take us to a new level of prosperity and safety without trashing the Constitution.

Good luck Ed. The american people have elected a guy with little to no experience, who has the most partisan voting record (when he voted) in the Senate. It doesn't look good from where I'm sitting, I'm reminded of an italian saying, "It is the mother of the stupid people who is always pregnant." It seems she's been busy reproducing in the US.

I admit, McCain's campaign was painful, but Obama is a celebrity - A pretty face and a great actor -and not much more. He might as well be Tom Cruise or Will Smith. The media was head over heels in love with Obama and tragically biased against McCain. It's too bad McCain's camp didn't give him some public speaking lessons- it would have helped him out with all those folks out there who chose to vote for celebrity instead of experience.

    • Posted By: HurleyOkeiffe @ 11/05/2008 6:35:57 PM

Judging by McCains hillarious guest appearance on SNL, I would say he's actor here, not Obama!

I used to be a registered Republican. I'm now a registered Independent. The switch came after the 2000 election, where I very ashamedly voted for GW Bush. Then I watched Bush and his army of bible thumpers set about destroying the Bill of Rights, our personal liberties and the freedoms we all cherish on a daily basis. He governed through the use of fear, not compassion or intellect. He waged war in order to settle a family vendetta. He surrounded himself with "Yes" men and women, not smart men and women. He lied. He concocted. He manufactured. Worst of all, he embarassed our nation. For crying out loud, he can't even speak in complete, articulate sentences. To say he is not an intellect is to be kind.

Now, eight years later, we get the female equivalent of GW Bush in the form of Sarah Palin and the public is supposed to rejoice? I left the Republican Party because I was tired of dumb people and dumb politicians. Let there be no doubt, Sarah Palin in the one politician on the political landscape who is able to make GW Bush look somewhat bright. Have the Republicans learned nothing? I don't want an "average" man or woman to be President. I want to think the President is better than me. Smarter than me. More accomplished than me. I want to think that person will make better decisions than me. Sarah Palin doesn't fit this bill. McCain's choice of Palin was insulting and offensive. I have to admit that I wanted to vote for McCain, I really did. But he made that impossible when he introduced stupid into his campaign platform.

I wasn't a huge Obama supporter, but my vote for him did not cause me any concern whatsoever. He's bright, he's articulate, he's accomplished and he's christian without being a "thumper". So, if the Republican's care to ever earn my vote back, here is what they need to do: 1) leave the bible at home; 2) get over the whole pro-life thing...this is America, people should get to choose; 3) stop picking on homosexuals, it's not like straight people have all the answers; 4) stop the negative campaigning, it just makes me wonder what you're hiding about yourself; and 5) let's limit our candidates to those among us who can read and write at a college level...no more dummies!!

    • Posted By: Transcending @ 11/05/2008 4:39:40 PM

You say Americans should get to choose, basically even if it is immorally wrong. Therefore when you stand before God are you going tell him but I should get to choose, I am an American!!! Unlike politics he is not going to buy it, sorry.

      • Posted By: DWPitts @ 11/05/2008 6:32:27 PM

Besides, udgment is reserved by God, and the Bible constantly lays down the law that judgment is the domain of God, not mankind. By assuming to judge on God's behalf, one has to violate the very word of God. In a sense, implies that a god-complex on the part of those presupposing to know the mind of God.

See how tangled the web gets when one violates the basic tenets of faith. "Let ye with no sins, cast the first stone". That's a real good place to start...

      • Posted By: lacey123 @ 11/05/2008 4:51:49 PM

You're absolutely right, Transcending....everyone will eventually have to stand before God and explain themselves. What you're not right about is that the government shouldn't be able to tell you whether to have an abortion or not. I don't agree with abortion, but that's a woman's CHOICE, not something the government should be involved in.

P.S. I was a diehard McCain supporter up until around April or May of this year--when he let loose on piles and piles of BS. He was a different man.

His speech last night was like he was back to his old self. I wish his campaign would have been of honor--I really liked the guy until this race.

      • Posted By: joe_mama @ 11/05/2008 5:02:15 PM

        Funny rapid....

I thought the same thing as I watched his concession speech: this is the McCain who I supported over Bush in 2000.

I said the same about Hillary Clinton, who, after losing, gave the best speech of her life.

Who the heck is advising these people DURING the campaign and how do they stay employed?

I think there was something wrong with the new poll machines, defects,if you voted Republican you were actually voting Democrat and if you voted Democrat you were actually voting Republican. The card that they gave you to use the poll machine the barcodes were backwards. Needs to be checked into and revoted. Something is not right about these numbers. Contact your voter administration and check to see who comes up as to who you voted for. I am sure they have a record of it.

  • Posted By: Brooklyn Gurl @ 11/05/2008 4:10:33 PM

Hey Sarah Palin when you pack your bags and head back to Alaska, take George Bush and Mmateo with you and that way you guys can look out your back window and keep an eye on Russia and inform us when you think that they are about to strike.

Perhaps she's too dense to realize that it takes a minutes or two for the post to appear after submitting.. ergo, she just keeps selecting that 'Post Your Comment' button. I think that's the more likely scenario.

Independent of the things out of the candidates' control, this lifelong Republican observed two very different campaign styles. While one candidate put in play a very disciplined, strategic, and team oriented plan of action, the other relied on old school fear, moment by moment tactics, and a fractured team. I'm not sure if BO stands for Blow Out or Barack Obama, but I am relieved the calm man prevailed.

When the author gets simple facts wrong, you have to question the whole article - no one ever yelled "kill him" at a McCain campaign rally - this act was well investigated by the Secret Service.

McCain lost because he didn't know why he was running and clearly could not articlulate why he wanted to be President. McCain failed to respond to the numerous silly statements by Obama and Biden. His campaign mismanaged the Palin roll-out - CBS News? Give me a break.! Finally, McCain thought that if he played nice, so would the Democrats - Obama was all for campaign finance reform, i.e. reform for Republicans, not Democrats.

Acting like Democrats will not get the Republicans anywhere - I am tired of this logic. If the people want Democrats in office, they will vote for the real thing.

    • Posted By: rapidron @ 11/05/2008 4:54:25 PM

Did you watch the kind of campaigning McCain and Palin were doing? Their words were often to appeal to thoughtless emotion, and their facts were outright lies.

      • Posted By: pbpace @ 11/05/2008 6:15:30 PM

You might want to run a grammar check before you post here.

    • Posted By: joe_mama @ 11/05/2008 5:31:50 PM

Actually, tired, it's NOT news. It's opinion. Says so on the title. That's one of the problems with the major media in this country, Fox, MSNBC, and (to a lesser extent) CNN pass off editorialism as legitimate news and now people can't distinguish one from the other.

I see Newsweek is already trying to make Sarah Palin look as bad as they can in order to paint her as an unacceptable candidate to run against their Saint Obama

I think John McCain lost because the Republican Party chose to ignore Republicans who were not wealthy or influential. These voters were not members of the "religious right", or other extremists who could be placated with lip service to their pet issue. They were working class and middle class citizens who saw their jobs go overseas without any resistance from their elected officials. The Republican Party was not interested in the learning about needs of these voters. I am one of these disenfranchised Republicans. I showed my dissatisfaction the only way left to me. I "voted the bums out"!

Is this the same Jesus of your campaign that loves guns, war, empowering the rich, ignoring the poor, spreading hate, and abuse of power. Seems to me, your Jesus is one we could do without, but more likely he is the Jesus the Christian conservatives have made up along the way to support their narrow views.

Comment: The results of this election are bound to be misread. Yes, turn-out for the election was record breaking, and yes, Senator McCain was the survivor of a grueling primary election, so he deserved to be the party's standard-bearer. However, the primary process was, from my perspective, flawed at the inception. Given the lack of eligible voter safeguards in the first two primary states, regional interests, and a biased media ready to exploit the situation, it is hardly surprising that the machinery ground out a product that was unpalatable for most conservatives.

Neither Iowa nor New Hampshire have requirements that prevent out-of-states from participating in their selection process. Because of this, the door is open for mischiveous opposition activity attempting to skew elections away from candidates having more potential to be dangerous long term threats.

Further, in Iowa, any candidate who dares to forthrightly point out not only that ethanol costs more to produce than can be had for it, but also that the production process is more environmentally damaging that burning an equivalent amount of fossil fuel might as well leave the state. And New Hampshire has leaned toward the left like the rest of New England.

Finally, the mainstream media restricts coverage of some candidates. This practice denies the poorly covered candidates access to a wider audience. The media usually defend their decision to cover some candidates and not others with the rationale that the candidate is not exciting attention. They fail to point out, however, that in fact it is the media that the candidate is not exciting, and that is because he/she is not saying things the media likes to hear. So candidates with messages that run counter to the left-leaning media are mainly left out in the cold.

So, the 'winner' that this scenario provided was Senator McCain. Sure, the process rattled on for awhile, but the template was already set. Romney was a Mormon who was too rich to identify with the common man, Fred Thompson was too old and tired, and Huckabee was interesting but an evangelical. Now John McCain -- HE was willing to take on the evil forces in Washington and face them even if they were in his own party.

The media got exactly what they wanted, the highest profile Republican they could get that actually acted like he didn't care about his own party, and stood with liberals on several key issues. They would turn on him in the crunch, but they needed to put him in position like a lamb to be slaughtered.

It's little wonder that circa 20% of Republicans voted for the other guy.

Senator Obama won -- congrats. He deserved to win because he ran a great campaign. It is a history-making achievement, and I'm genuinely glad to have African-Americans know that they can attain the highest office in the land. But don't read more into it than is there.
