I hope we all can put aside our differences and come togather and try to get our country back on the right track, and for all of those that can get over having a black president you need to leave the country of get back under your rocks with all the hate and racism and this goes for black ,white and any other nationality. There is no time for this nonsense when people are losing their homes, jobs and life savings.

McCain lost his campaign when he decided to cater solely to the rep base. Selecting Palin and then going totally negative showed that he would do anything to win and went contrary to his campaign slogan of Country First. He politicized the wall street debacle and showed that he was willing to do anything to be prez. But the most telling was that he ran a negative smear campaign that won him the idiot and uninformed vote in addition to the rep. base but lost him the college educated vote which Bush won in 04 and which was the only surprise demographic that Obama won.

What's sad is that Obama's campaign was run by others, he was simply a mouthpiece. Now, this mouthpiece with absolutely no substance is our president. We will have to wait and see how he handles the economy, foreign countries, and all the complexities that he was so critical about Bush for handling day to day. Now he will be under the microscope.
Dont forget almost 50,000 000 DID NOT vote for Obama, so there's quite a few out there that are unhappy today, and some Independents, etc. who did vote for him only did so because they were so unhappy about Bush's reign, they just wanted out.
Everyone talks about his winning as being a dream come true for the minorities; do they even understand what's at stake here? Who cares about how this is for the blacks, we are in trouble here.

Obama's campaign was an unprecedented success that was organized by a team which he picked and governed. Don't get it twisted-- he is no mouthpiece. Haters like you love to overlook his high intellect, good judgement, economic smarts (most funds raised in a presidential campaign ever anyone?) and focused strategic planning. Oh and let's not forget that he is a genius "community organizer". I think that may have helped a tad. No other election in recent history has garnered as many voters nor as many electoral votes and this was no coicidence. And for a Black man in America. . . excuse me, the FIRST African American President Elect in American History, he won in a landslide despite your sad little numbers game. Ha! Palin wishes she had 1/4 of his qualities! What won him the election was Hope over Fear, Good over Evil, Smart over Not-so-smart. Get over it.

Hello? McFly? They're called: "campaign managers". Every campaign from High School to the White House has them. Except, apparently, John McCain, who's campaign showed no signs of management at all.

IT TRULY WAS THE WORST CAMPAIGN EVER. THAK GOD WE DIDN'T END UP WITH McCAIN, BECAUSE HE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER-YES, EVEN WORSE THAN BUSH.

A minimum of research will show you that the "kill him" comment was debunked by the Secret Service a LONG time ago. You should correct this piece accordingly.

I and millions of others heard the 'kill him' comment live while watching that Palin rally in Florida all the SS said was that they didn't hear it (not surprising considering they have those ear pieces in the whole time.)

      • Posted By: pbpace @ 11/05/2008 5:36:16 PM

Let's assume he did shout kill him...so what? Some claim he shouted tell him. Are you into guilt by association...what about Jeremiah 'GD' Wright and Ayers. Geez you people are ignorant.

Comment: I must say that it felt pretty good to see the media not harping over a Black Man and his faults for once in the history of my lifetime. Finally a good old boy and his gal pal were able to feel the intrusion, hostility and racism that the black man is subject to everyday. The Republicans have had a good run. Now it is time to move over and get ready for change.

    • Posted By: ad_p @ 11/05/2008 5:34:21 PM

Change for what? Definitely not for the better. You think economy is bad now wait till Obama and his cohort implement their economic policy. Obama said he won't raise taxes for people making less than $250000, then it was change to $200000, then change again to $175000, then $125000. Who's to say he won't raise taxes for average JOE making $42000? If you read his economic plans carefully, his idea of people "deserving" to pay higher taxes is none other than you and me with household income of $75000 and more. We will be the one paying for all his proposed spending. Under him, average family will work more and bring home less, total opposite to what he promise. Still like to think you won't be affected? Think again. Free market economy and capitalism enable individuals to become rich and fulfil the American dream. Just like the pyramid there are more RICH individual supporting the economy and the less fortunate. Under Obama, the pyramid will be inverted. As the government implements socialistic policy and takes more and more to SPREAD IT AROUND, less and less individual will become RICH to support the ever increasing number of free government handouts and welfares. As the cost goes up, so will your taxes. I'm for one do not look forward to having the government take more of my hard earn money and give it to someone who do not contribute to our economy. Everybody should work hard, contribute and pay equal percentage of taxes 30% flat. We should be encouraged to accumulate wealth and keep it for our family. Not to be pinalized for our effort and be told to SPREAD it around. If I can work hard, so can you.

The media is too scared to say anything derogatory about Hussein Obama because he is black. Don't want to upset the black people now do we? Everyone walks around on pins and needles because they are afraid to offend someone. This is the United States of the" Entitled and the Offended"

      • Posted By: gigglinggirl @ 11/05/2008 2:35:40 PM

I know the actual facts intruding upon your delusion is a bummer, but.....if only Black people had voted for Obama, he couldn't have possibly won. The reason he won is because people of ALL colors voted for him.....overwhelmingly.

    • Posted By: JJPHAT486 @ 11/05/2008 1:54:12 PM

That is the exact attitude that will not make any change. Embrace your fellow AMERICANS who want to better this country and quit living in the past with vengence in your heart.

I hope everyone will come together and focus on getting our country back on track, becauses we all are in this togather rather we agree of dislike one another. And I hope all the ugly racist ism that raised it head leave this country or go back under their rocks, if they can't stand the ideal or having a black president.

Crazy talk.. The secret service did NOT debunk this...never at any point. They simply made a statement that they were not aware of anything at the time of the occurence. In fact ANY reasonable review of the audio tapes of the event will clearly demonstrate that this occured. Stop watching FOX and actually DO the research you wish others would do.

McCain was the wrong candidate in the wrong place at the wrong time. This problem was further compounded when he allowed the former Bush/Rove "hit team" to run his campaign. They tried to sell American voters an agenda of negativity and fear. It backfired and hurt McCain badly. Finally, the boneheaded selection of Sarah Palin as VP sent McCain's floundering campaign quickly into the tank. The GOP should be ashamed and embarrased by the amateur effort put forth by the McCain campaign.

    • Posted By: Brooklyn Gurl @ 11/05/2008 11:28:13 AM

I must say that the McCain Campaign took campaigning it to a new low. They not only attempted to defamate a man's character but along with his gal pal he sunk his boat as well in his negative antics. I am more than ready for change. I think that as a Middle Class American I am entittled to it for once in my life.

  • Posted By: mook6357 @ 11/05/2008 5:29:54 PM

Let me see if I understand this correctly. McCain is behind Obama, McCain gets nomination & picks Palin, McCain, McCain pulls even with Obama. MCain then completely misses on the economic meltdown by both actions and statements and somehow you come up with the conclusion it's because of Palin. Hey, Princeton guy, McCain lost because of Mccain, time to focus on the President-elect now.

  • Posted By: valleymama @ 11/05/2008 5:29:06 PM

John McCain did have the Bush stone around his neck, but he made some fatal choices of his own - continuing to back the Iraq war, continuing to be blind about the economy, creating the $5000 health care credit that would mean our employer-supplied insurance would be taxable. His choice of Sarah Palin signaled that he no longer had the judgement to think on his own, but was bowing to pressure from the religious right. If he thought she'd bring in Hillary women, that showed how out of the loop he is on what women really want. His decision to suspend his campaign and ruch to save the economy was ridiculous -- no one really needed his body in Washington, and he didn't do anything anyway. Finally, through no fault of his own, Dick Cheny endorsed him at the final hour. Everybody hates Cheney (he may actually be the anti-Christ). If Cheney wanted to endorse him why wait so long? And having waited so long, why not just keep quiet?
I would feel sorrier for McCain if I hadn't been so scared he would win - maybe he'd not be a duplicate Bush but for sure he'd keep some of the same Bushmen in office, and he had no clue about the environment, and he's just so not like us!

To isaiditfirst. he didn't own a plubing company, have the financial assets to buy one or even have the necessary plumbing license to practice plumbing in his state. How the McCain/Palin ticket could continue to use him in their quest for the White House was amazing. Someone definitely lied, but it wasn't President elect Obama

  • Posted By: ksmacdog62 @ 11/05/2008 2:32:02 PM

First, let me state that I voted for Obama - simply because I strongly believe the country needs a change, and because I believe Obama's political idealogy on the "issues" (as he has expressed that idealogy during the campaign) most closely resembles my political idealogy. I'm clearly moderate, and I believe President-elect Obama spoke more effectively to the moderates (right and left). However, in the end I don't necessarily believe it was McCain's campaign that lost the election, although I'll agree it was a weak campaign in comparison to the campaign run by Obama's team. The fact is that McCain was defeated with significant help from the clearly liberal media and the fact that Obama outspent McCain by a margin of 5 to 1. Incredible. Take away the clear support of a liberal national media (that arguably should remain issue neutral) and Obama's bottomless budget for marketing, and it may have been a closer race. So, the only lesson learned from an election like the 2008 Election is that the candidate who wins over the national media (or who sides with the liberal national media) and who has the biggest campaign budget probably stands the best chance to come out on top. Unfortunately, this basically tells the world it's not necessarily about who is the most qualified candidate or who might be better suited for the Presidency; but rather, it says only the best campaign strategists will win.

That said, it's certain that politicians need to better understand that the country is vastly made up of moderates and not extremists. You can't play to the extremes and expect to win. Now, it's critically important that we as a nation get behind President Bush to make the last days of his Presidency as productive as possible, and we all need to rally behind President-elect Obama to give him the support that he will definitely need to be an effective President in these very turbulent times.

    • Posted By: NLite823 @ 11/05/2008 5:27:20 PM

Didn't the conservative media helped Bush win...I remember the FoxNews days w/Bill O'Reilly and MSNBC raggin' on the Dems back in the day (they had their heyday). I mean I remember that vicious attacks...I mean the conservative media were like pitbulls back then. Well, Bush messed up the economy so bad it allowed the liberal media to finally get a foothold in and create a Media darling out of Obama. Blame Bush not the media...he really messed it up...so much so, poor McCain was doing his best to distance his self, but he just couldn't. in the end

  • Posted By: micah6.8 @ 11/05/2008 4:31:25 PM

The one thing that I will remeber about this election is not the fact that Obama is the first African-American to be elected, but the fact that the majority of Americans have displayed such ugly, hostile behavior towards non-Obama supporters. Hate and the insistance of immorral acts will only bring about the wrath of Almighty God. What shame our forfathers must have at this moment! Not because Obama was elected, but because the people are rejecting God. America was blessed because we trusted in God in the past. Shut Him out and watch His blessings be no longer!

    • Posted By: cordwainer @ 11/05/2008 5:02:53 PM

Dear micah: Sadly, people have displayed the same sort of behavior toward Obama supporters; even during McCain's concession speech, people in the audience booed his comments, and many have cited the man who during a Palin rally atually yelled, "Kill him!"

Supporters on both sides engaged in ugly and shameful behavior, and it is frightening that they were so out of control that they thought it was acceptable to do so.

Anyone who has so lost perspective they think violent comments are appropriate is obviously in need of help. It does not matter who they support . American citizens' voting choices are not crimes, and they do not deserve punishment. Anyone, regardless of political belief, who thinks it is appropriate to try to intimidate, threaten, abuse, or harm another human being because of his or her political choice is a poor citizen, and has forgotten both the liberties and the responsibilities on which our country was founded.

Americans are blessed with protections such as the secret ballot to prevent citizens from being afraid to cast their vote freely, to protect them from coercion or retribution from any other person, organization, or government. It is one of the foundations of democracy.

Perhaps instead of continuing to argue about the election, those of us who still understand what it means to be a citizen should start a movement to re-teach Americans the things they've forgotten, including Constitutional rights and common courtesy. It's obvious from far too many of the comments posted here that the writers are unfamiliar with either.

I do not, by the way, mean this to be an aimless insult or a flame. It is an increasing problem, and something has to be done to eliminate that kind of behavior, and help Americans relearn how to communicate and debate rationallly, with factual information, about issues that affect all of us. Somehow, we need to re-acquire the respect for others' beliefs that we seem to be losing more rapidly every day...and somehow we need badly to relearn human compassion.

      • Posted By: micah6.8 @ 11/05/2008 5:26:02 PM

My point exactly! Yes, there is that hostile behavior on both sides of the fence. It just seems to me that most of the comments I have read were hateful towards McCain and Palin. I think it's sad that people feel compelled to express animosity.

    • Posted By: rapidron @ 11/05/2008 4:48:25 PM

micah, by your namesake you probably know the bible as I do. So here it is:

You only reap what you sew. Please do not forget the words of McCain supporters as well as Bush supporters, in shouting all others down, in your diatribe.

      • Posted By: micah6.8 @ 11/05/2008 5:01:18 PM

Be careful what you assume. I didn't say I supported McCain, either! I'm just saying that we can't afford to spew hate and blame and reject God from our lives.
