Let me get this straight, he was behind, he picked Palin, he caught up & even moved slightly ahead, then he atcs and speaks completely irrational on the economic meltdown and somehow he lost because of Palin? You ain't too sharp for a Princeton guy. McCain lost because of McCain, period.

to isaiditfirst..a company that is worth 280K does not net 280 k per year. You only pay taxes on your net income...not your gross or the value of your company. It's not like personal property tax.

Please don't confuse isaiditfirst with any logic or reason. He, after all, is one of the "real" Americans. We should applaud his effort at thinking this thing through ... beyond the GOP talking points I mean. I can almost hear his brain grinding through my computer.

McCain has nobody to blame than his own self and his campaign tactics for his defeat. The media was actually very nice to the mcCain camp by not pressing hard for interviews with Palin. I have never seen a candidate evade the media so easily. McCain tried to tie Obama with every terrorist under the sun but Obama tied him to the biggest terrorist of them all: BUSH! However, if you look at the popular vote(which should be the only way we elect our president, almost half the country voted for McCain. People, we are ALL broke, we are ALL losing our homes, we are ALL losing our youth in Iraq. It really is time to work together to get out of the hole. Stop the hate and the divisivness, only then can we truly become a great nation.

This country will never become united

That's ok. Move the majority and the mainstream forward, and those who choose to remain to behind, kicking and screaming, can well, remain behind, kicking and screaming with no one left to hear them, That usually works.

You can lead a horse to water...

Here's why McCain didn't win the Presidency. 1) Obama had countless millions of dollars in campaign funds to help him buy his way into the White House and as yet, no one has suggested hiring an independent forensic accountant to find out where the money came from, i.e. from those in this country and in foreign countries., 2) McCain had only honor and courage in his background, Obama had Wright, Rezko, Ayers and countless other left wing radicals in his closet which the liberal media helped him hide throughout the campaign, 3) Bottom line is that this WAS a race issue because 95% of the black population chose to vote for him because he was black. Many of these black voters didn't even know what his platform was and didn't care, they just wanted a black man in a White House, 4) Obama had ACORN in his back pocket and those that were involved with that unscrupulous group did their very best to ensure that the voter registration process was fraudulent and it gave them a platform to tell lies to the illiterate blacks about McCain.

There was no way McCain could win this campaign because Obama and his band of thieves didn't play fair and as the almost half of the American population who voted for him know, McCain is a man of honor who wouldn't stoop to the underhanded tactics the Obama campaign used. Obama and the Democratic Congress and Senate better watch their steps because there are huge numbers of us out here that will be sure you don't try and mess with our freedoms and liberties in this country. And if they don't think we'll take to the streets and take back our country, then they are dead wrong.

You poor lil' Tex...who ever said politics was fair. If he's got more money then you go into your arsenal bag of skills and put out zingers annilihate the money factor. It's the game of politics. And Sarah Palin may have initially energize McCain's campaign, but after did those interviews...she bought it down. I actually felt sorry for him because of his bad pick. She needs work! And he needed a better pick for a valid VP.

You so speak the truth. It is a shame that a majority of American's are blinded by this wolf in sheep's clothing.

are you kidding me??? Not only black people voted for Obama, but also majority of white voters. How Obama got money? by plain American people donating to this great cause - I had no objections to pitch in and actually was happy to do it. We elected not a Black man but a great man who gives us hope, who just happens to be black. Yes we can!!! Majority has spoken!!

Everyone needs to move on. Obama won, the majority of the American people have spoken. We need to pull our heads out of our collective bums and deal with it. Life is too short.

You tell'em Zydo! McBushpalney had nothing to do with the loss. Poor baby was a victim of circumstance. Besides McBushpalney did get all the real American voters. That's all that really matters.

And by the way- if all pure capitalism has to offer is the further enrichment of the few, then maybe socialism isnt such a dirty word. Ive been through Canada many times, and they are obviously less stressed, happier, and enjoying life. The same with my young european friends who aren't even from wealthy countries, yet receive free university and health care, and have five weeks paid vacation each year.
We get near slavery and maybe, maybe the carrot of two weeks paid vacation. And health care- what a joke.

We have to start calling Obama Bi-Racial. Calling him AfroAmerican continues the historic division of our country.

    • Posted By: beaper @ 11/05/2008 5:11:09 PM

jrheller2: How about we call him what he is; Arab. He is only 12 1/2% of African (Kenya) descent.

    • Posted By: willowbrook @ 11/05/2008 2:17:04 PM

It is pointless to call him anything but under qualified.

Absolutely right! Which is why "my guy" is now President Elect! Woo hoo! Does the truth hurt about Carabou Barbie? Well, boo hoo. She never deserved to be the VP nominee in the first place, let alone voted into office. If she wasn't such a bigoted, lying, hate-monger she may have had a chance. Oh-- and wisdom, intellect and even a little common sense may have given her a leg-up ALSO. LOL!

      • Posted By: leepdx @ 11/05/2008 5:09:25 PM

Actually McCain had no ideas just a bunch of time spent in DC palling around with the rich who he helped bankrupt the nation.

To Mad Doc; Thank GOD for the media!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have it wrong. Palin was a good pick to energize her base, but she was radioactive with the left (which your newspaper represents). McCain was decisively ahead in the polls in mid-September, his mistake was voting for the $700 billion bailout. That package contained a huge amount of pork-barrel spending, something which McCain was against. Yet he voted for the bill. Had he voted against it, it still would have passed--but then he could have lumped Obama and Bush together (both for the bill), while he is on the side of the people and against pork-barrel spending. Had he done that, he would have won--easily. None of the other factors you cite are important.

Am I the only one who caught that Obama lied on national television to "Joe the plumber"? Obama told Joe that he wouldn't raise his taxes. The next morning on the news, they announced that his business was worth approximately $280,000. Obama said he was only raising taxes on companies that were worth more than $250,000. I've been out of school for a while now, but I'm pretty sure $280,000 is still more than $250,000! And yet America elected him anyway, so don't come crying to me when he doesn't do what he said he would. He lied, America saw it, and elected him anyway... now that's bravery!

The biggest question that now remains is will the GOP candidate in 2012, assuming there is one, be allowed into the debates? We could see a splintering that is beyond belief: The Christian Right develops their own party and the surviving GOP center develops into another. This is not outside the realm of possiblity. The Christian Right has not been the base, it has been more of an anchor around the neck of the party ... pulling it down ... and the party has finally drowned. The two major parties in 2012 may well be the Democrats and the Independents. Then we will have the GOP, Greens and Libertarians as small splinter groups. Maybe the GOP can reconstitute itself, but as what? There just isn't any there ... there.

To Politics Girl; To bring Palin into the Political mix was disrespectful to American Women to think that we would vote for someone like Palin just because they combed her hair and adorned her in a $150K wardrobe. In a sense it was like saying, "Well they voted for George Bush 4 years ago and he is insipid, they may just go for this and vote for Palin even though she is an idiot". Maybe it was the Hockey Moms and Joe Six Packs that convinced McCain to add Palin to his team.

  • Posted By: jbrown1e @ 11/05/2008 5:07:36 PM

The comment "The campaign got so out of control that a man at one Palin rally yelled "Kill him!". has been disproven by the secret service. Zelzer should know this. Many of his other observations are probably correct, but I wonder if our liberal and biased media had spent as much time investigating Obama as they did investigating everything they could about Palin if the results would have been different.

Wow- I just have a b.A. in History, and i support Obama (so far), but anyone could run circles around this professor's argument.. The best professor I ever had constantly repeated the "follow the money" theme, and its no different here. Yes, barack obama is charasmatic and fresh, idealistic and hopefully will help steer our country in the right direction. But having five times as much contributions by renouncing his vow to take public financing is really why Obama won. if McCain had followed suite, instead of sticking to his own pledge, he evry well might have won. Five times as much contributions to work with, and Obama won by 2%. Follow the money, friends.
