mmateo: where I live tons of illegal immigrants live off the system ... free housing, free everything ! It's not right. The majority of them are not here for bread. They are here because of greed . And have you heard that suddenly Canada is having an illegal immigration issue ??? Funny, huh ?

Brooklyn Gurl: I don't think it's particularly appropriate to tell someone they should have been an abortion. I agree that sometimes mmateo is extreme, but if I were you I would not take it personally.

Good advice. I agree. Clearly you can't take the rantings of a raving lunatic personally or seriously.

I think Senator McCain lost when he was widely photographed with his head on George Bush's shoulder, and when he decided his own decency couldn't pay off and chose to run a very mean campaign. I think the Republican Party lost in 2000 when it chose to govern as if it had a sizeable mandate, instead of 100-200 votes in Florida.

I sincerely hope the Republican Party will not draw the conclusion that decent people like McCain can't win and take an even more hard line position. To me this election proves the political strategies of triangulation, governing for only part of society, and governing to make your party a permanent majority have failed. Thank you.

Sarah Palin is what sunk McCain's campaign. She was a novel choice at first but quickly became a boat anchor. She represents the epitome of the "Evil Church Lady", utterly blind to the needs and wants of others, she thinks she and her kind are the only ones here. If McCain had picked any number of moderate, sober, Republicans like Colin Powell, he would have slid right in to first place.

Who I feel bad for is the Military who is now so pose to salute a man who will not pledge allegiance to the flag proudly with his hand over heart, and promises to help disarm and weaken our national defense.

Congratulations to our voters who put the party back in power that gave us the mandatory sub prime lending of loans that caused this financial crisis in the first place.

The USA IS the greatest Country in the world. I hope that all this change I keep hearing about is not going to affect that.

Where do you come up with this crap!?! Before making idiotic comments, try to find out the facts first. It was NOT during the Pledge, it was during the National Anthem. You are only required to put your hands on your heart for the National Anthem during "Patriotic and National Observances." The image that you are probably referring to is from a Steak Festival in Iowa. Watch any sports game and during the National Anthem, the athletes stand with their hands behind their backs. Half of the crowd, if not more, do the same thing. HOW OFFENSIVE! The real problem is the whistling and shouting during the National Anthem. That's what bothers me. Let the person finish the song and then cheer.

    • Posted By: kcloud @ 11/05/2008 3:39:23 PM

Thank you for bringing it up. If you are an american you love your flag and what it stands for, same goes for the national anthem.

      • Posted By: daffyhd @ 11/05/2008 4:12:51 PM

I agree. American, love it or leave it is still true. Respect the flag and anthem and country! Other countries respect theirs and probably laugh at how many here just spit it the face of this country, but have their hands out for all the goodies it can provide. A true leader shows respect for the country which in turn shows respect for its people.

Do your homework!! Even if he was, his mother was a US citizen and that automatically makes him a citizen!!

      • Posted By: beaper @ 11/05/2008 4:20:16 PM

4carol: If it true that obama was born in Kenya and his mother brought him to America to get a birth certificate, he is guilty of fraudulently entering the States and not eligible to be president and most likely would be deported.

    • Posted By: Flanders @ 11/05/2008 3:09:56 PM

While I would argue it shouldn't matter, this is not true. You prove it is true and I'll believe anything you say.

  • Posted By: rapidron @ 11/05/2008 4:19:38 PM

All you losers and your 'media, media, media,' STFU already. Whenever people don't agree with your idiotic opinions, you find strawmen arguments. McCain ran a dark and offensive campaign period. People were saying things that were truly undemocratic in their lies and sleaze. The Media reported these things. STFU and open you eyes.

  • Posted By: Karabelle @ 11/05/2008 4:19:35 PM

If the McCain who gave the concession speech had shown up for the campaign, it's possible he might have won. It was if the nasty, snearing old man had disappeared and the noble gentleman had returned. I'm guessing his greatest regret will be his decision to let the Bush men run his campaign into the ground. As a Democrat, I'm glad that he did, but as an observer, there was something quite tragic and touching about McCain's final speech. It was a glimpse of what might have been.

  • Posted By: NLite823 @ 11/05/2008 12:27:45 PM

The Rooster came home to roost. It's the Republican's own fought that the Dems won the 2008 Pres Election. You guys bitterly and viciously fought Bill Clinton during his time, even tried to the impeach the man for doing the same thing you ole horn dogs were doing too (e.g. Newt Gringch was having an affair at the same time, come to find out). You had control of the media, especially Fox News w/Bill O'Reilly, who got caught up in his own sex scandal while he tried to be 'fair and balance". So then you guys got your boy in, GWB...look what mess he made. It goes to show, what comes around goes around. Now the pendulum has fallin' back into the Dems hands w/none other than a African-American, who would have thunk it! Look to all the junk y'all put out and you'll see why poor McCain lost. Becuause all of your evil attacks and hostility from the past, you have brought this moment into being. I'm not even a big Obama supporter, but after what you guys have done to America...Thank God! Now let's get down to brass tacks and get this economy turned around so I can begin to enjoy life like I did under the Clinton Administration :-).

    • Posted By: politicianslie @ 11/05/2008 12:43:05 PM

You will never be able to enjoy life like you did in the Clinton administration because that was then and this is now. Things will not go back to the way they were when Clinton was President. Wake up and stop living in the past!

      • Posted By: NLite823 @ 11/05/2008 4:18:18 PM

I'm not living in the past. But I have belief and hope that our economy can turn around and flourish for all. I'm not saying it's going to happen today or tomorrow and that is what I meant. We got work to do from of all of the junk that the Republicans have left. My motto is " All long as you believe it, you can conceive it " and I'm ready for change from the last 8 years, I would think you would be too or are you a pessimist? Well, if you are...this is not the country you should be in!

"Though in the first week following her selection, Palin energized the conservative base of the GOP, she became a serious drag on the ticket."
    ----------------------------------------------------
Actually, I think she energized the liberal base just as much, with the things that were allowed at many of their rallies.

Though 90% of the country claims to believe in either a God or many Gods.

WHAT WAS STACKED AGAINST THE REPUBLICANS WAS THE NEWS MEDIA , BOTH TV AND PRINT. THEY HAD OBAMA AS THE NEXT PRESIDENT MOS AGO. THEY WOULD NEVER ASK WHERE ALL OBAMA'S MONEY CAME FROM OR OTHER QUESTIONS AMERICA HAD ASKED. THEY HID THE TRUTH , SO NOW WE HAVE LIBERAL MEDIA ND A LIBERAL ( FAR LEFT0 PRESIDENT ELECT. HOW CAN HE CALL HIMSELF THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES WHEN THE COWARD NEVER SERVED A DAY , A USMC VIETNAM VET

    • Posted By: DWPitts @ 11/05/2008 4:16:20 PM

Sir, in the United States, we have what's known as a civilian military. That is the sole justification for making the President the commander in chief. It's one of those sticky checks and balances the former administration was dangerously trying to dispense with.

I realize you're upset today, but please stop and think for a minute. Think about the countries who have a military that is not accountable to the civilian population. Most are dictatorships now. Our checks and balances are to prevent that from happening here, Therefore, the CinC is always a civilian, and there is absolutely no requirement for him to be a "military man". Quite the opposite actually.

In your anger today, you are advocating putting the country in a dangerous position, which could easily, if landed in the wrong hands, lead to martial law and dictatorship in the USA. This can NEVER be allowed to happen. The military MUST serve the American public, and not vice versa.

I know you already know this, and would never advocate such an abuse. Maybe let things quiet down for a week or so, and see who the man chooses for DoD Secretary. That will tell us all many things about his future administration. This is what I have chosen to do.

Give him a chance before we decide he is a failure. Those votes mean something from last night. Ignore them at your own peril. To do otherwise, brings more risk to America, than cutting the military's budget, by the way. What's the difference between a domestic or foreign dictator anyway? There is no difference.

    • Posted By: klebrun @ 11/05/2008 1:50:31 PM

I have the greatest respect for the USMC, but what was stacked against the GOP was their own track record. I don't think that anybody else could have done more to screw up this country than Cheney and Bush, who, incidentally, hid behind their mother's skirts when the shooting started in Vietnam.

      OPinion of another vet.

Real Mature. Let Me Guess.... you are black? How did I know, perhaps because you misspelled a simple word like THE on your own screen name. You say you are not an American, but I'm sure you live in the USA. Perhaps you aren't an American, you are probably illegal from some African country.
Just because he cheated his win, does not a president make. I will continue to address him as Senator Barrack Hussain Osama Obama bin Laden. And when he collapses the US dollar and the Amero is introduced, you will see I was right once again. Loser
